I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised by how good Battle Chasers: Nightwar was. I’m not saying that I was expecting this game to be a bad game, but I didn’t think this RPG would be as rewarding as it was. The main attraction of this game is that it rewards you for doing any quest or completing anything noteworthy, and this makes you want to carry on with the game. The combat in the game is also something that makes the game stand out. They have managed to take the classic RPG turn based style and tweak it slightly to make the combat both exciting and interesting at the same time. The crafting mechanics in the game have a decent variety to them, and I enjoyed crafting the items and in my opinion it gave the game some more replay value. The story that accompanies the gameplay is very good and it manages to intrigue you throughout. The story also gives the characters a layer of depth to them and it definitely made me care about them more. I would however have liked the text to have been a bit bigger because I must admit that I struggled to read it at times and this did make me miss some important points. The presentation side of the game is simply stunning. The art style breaths life into the game and it definitely makes the game beautiful, which in turn makes it stand out. The music in the game is also brilliant and it delivers a number of different atmospheres for you to take part in. At the end of the day if you look past the technical issues then you will find a very competent and exciting RPG. The world is not as big as other games in the genre, but I don’t think it needs to be because the game has more than enough here to keep you satisfied. It gets a lot of the main things right and for me that’s more than enough for me to recommend that you give Battle Chasers: Nightwar a try. Expand

This game is a solid 8. If you enjoyed JRPGs in the 90s, this is for you. BCN is a double-A game with amazing production values. Sound effects are pretty good, too.

I recommend this game to anybody, really.

One of the best classic RPG in recent years. Despite the medium story, Joe Madureira's drawings and combat mechanics elevate the game to a high level.

I played through the first dungeon and had enough. If you are going classic non-grid turn based add some variety - simply a timing button on attack/defense adds so much.

    Pros:
    - Well done presentation
    - For what it is it does well

    Cons:
    - Again the gameplay was boring after a while
    - I like the game to force the difficulty, not the player/grinding

I absolutely love this game. Personally it feels like a mix of old Final Fantasy games and Dungeons and Dragons with rarity tiered loot. The combat is nuanced enough you have to plan different moves for strategy depending on what kind enemy you're facing. They did a great job with the music and sound effects as well.

This game was a delightful surprise. The visuals are simple but very nice and enjoyable, kind of like an animated cartoon. The voice acting is solid and engaging. The sound design and music is pretty good. And the gameplay is simple but very enjoyable.

Battle Chasers: Nightwar draws heavily on JRPG’s of the past and it shows immediately. Everything from the storytelling to the battle mechanics will be extremely familiar to anyone that is a fan of series like Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger. The only real deviation is a dungeon system in which the game will momentarily shift to sort of a dungeon crawler with loot and secondary objectives littering the map. The rest of the game plays much like a board game. The player is confined to certain paths dotted with various enemies that lead from objective to objective. Much like the rest of the game, it’s very simple, but still very enjoyable.
I really enjoyed my time with this game. However as I progressed, got more familiar with the synergies of the characters and got stronger through leveling and equipment, the game quickly became a little too easy which is kind of a bummer because one of the lures of games like this are the ultra challenging side quests and optional bosses. The game is also a little too short for the amount of characters you are given to choose between. I found myself pretty much done with the game before I was able to really mess around with different combinations of my party members.
Overall though, this is a fun game. It really scratches that JRPG itch and is a fun little story to play through. It may be simple and probably too easy, but the story is enjoyable enough and the gameplay is fun enough to warrant a playthrough for pretty much any JRPG fan.

Un excelente rpg por turnos con un apartado artístico muy Madureira y unos personajes carismáticos. Excelente sistema de combates que te enganchara hasta el final.

Battle Chaser is a rlly good RPG game which is kinda different to some other RPG games out there.
I like the atmosphere in this game, the story, the music and the battle System.
I just kinda wish the battle speed would be higher than that and it would include an automatic battle system but it does not. Well it is still a rlly amazing rpg game which everyone who loves playing rpgs

first of all this could have been a great game it deserved to be. finally a classic turn based game. it looks and sounds great. the animations are top notch. character design is decent. voce acting is great. fighting system could use a 10 tp 20% speed up but other than than it follows a tried and true formula and is great fun and you can actually get almost tactical some of the time.

now for the bad part you only have 3 characters. i mean they designed 6 complete with different skill/armor/weapon sets. all of that devolopment effort gone to waste because of one single stupid decision. they don´t level when they´re not in the active party. and i don´t mean they get half the xp like in ff7. the get ZERO, nada, nothing so there´s NO reason at all to ever try them out or expirement with different tactics and set ups unless you want to waste your time hours upon hours to grind them up which precisely nobody ever does. there insanstly useless as soon as you get them. if they at least be on your level when they join, you could at least switch out your least favourite at that time but no, not even that.

they follow the exact same formula when it comes to crafting. they design a pretty deep crafting system. only to make it instantly useless by only giving you garbage. i´m 30 hours in and bought every crafting recipe i´ve come across i could craft 100s of different items. but why the hell would i ever do that if they´re all useless? i´ve never crafted a single one of them because there wasn´t a single instance where any kind of equipment i had on me at that that time would have been the tiniest bit improved by what i could have crafted at that time.

the perk system is ok but yet again basically useless. it lets you swap out buffs at any time. but again theres really no point to that if you can pick between a 1% increase here or a 0,5% increase there makes no **** difference at all. why would you ever do that with buffs and not with skills? if you could swap out the skills it would at least make sense since you could try different tactics and set ups and approaches to different enemies.

basically they had all the ingredients to make a pretty deep tactical chess like battle system. they put all the effort in to do so. but some idiot decided "yeah let´s do that, keep the chess approach but let them only ever use pawns. i´m sure that´s great fun"

i really feel for the people who worked on this i mean it could have been such a great game were it not for the mind numbingly stupid decicions that basically ruined the game.

A very good JRPG with a mediocre story but is stylish and well polished. I really like the combat system and the dungeons. I have spent 11 hours so far. On the other side, I have frame drops upon lighting multiple torches (Xbox one S).

Battle Chasers: Nightwar is easily the best turn-based RPG I have played in a long time. There are a bunch of different characters to customize; hundreds of monsters to battle; gobs of loot to find, and a reasonably good storyline that keeps the game moving along smoothly. Add to that a fair starting price (that is now a heck of a deal), and you have a 40-hour beast-bashing game to chase after.

Airship Syndicate brings a title where some points fail, such as optimization or a more immersive soundtrack, but has an excellent artistic section, a very intuitive combat system and an acceptable duration, which will be the perfect excuse for those who have never dared to take turn-based RPG games.

A solid old school turn-based RPG, graced by Madureira's awesome art but a little bit unbalanced towards combat rather than narration. Definitely a game to consider by lovers of the genre.
