Exploring the different planets in the game always felt rewarding and this was a big reason why I returned back to the game time and time again. I really enjoyed the crafting elements in the game because they never became bogged down by details and the simplicity made these elements very addictive. I really enjoyed how the game allowed me to express myself because this freedom meant that the gameplay stood out more for me. When the online co-op works then it gives the game even more in terms of depth and it’s definitely more fun when played this way. There are a few tech issues that you have to put up with every now and then but thankfully I was able to look past those. It can be a little frustrating every now and then especially if you’ve been searching for a specific part for a while. I’m a big fan of the Xbox Game Preview program and I’ve watched a lot of games graduate through this program. Thankfully the good things I remembered from it's entry to the Game Preview Program are still present and in many ways better. I urge anybody who likes space exploration to just go ahead and buy it, because exploring the diverse planets will no doubt thrill you because always so rewarding. Another aspect of the game that always feels rewarding is the crafting elements in the game because they never become too complicated and appeals to the masses and will keep them coming back for more. Technically the game is good for the most part but it isn’t perfect, and you may bump into a few issues along the way. Thankfully though I was easily able to look past these issues thanks to the amount of freedom the game allows you to have and you forget about them even more when the online offerings work. At the end of of the day then for me Astroneer is definitely up there with the best space exploration games to date, mainly because not only is it simple to enjoy the gameplay and it also creates a very relaxing atmosphere that’s well worth experiencing and this means that the game does more than enough to a recommendation from me. Thumbs up!. Expand

This game is what no mans sky should have been. Astroneer is a game that requires you to use critical thinking to safely move across the massive planets, which gives the game a sense of difficulty even without the need for enemy npcs (unless you count the occasional dust storms that send damaging rocks flying towards you). Another great thing about the game are the planets. While there may only be about 4 or 5 in each save, each planet is massive and diverse. Your starting planet could be scarce of nearly anything, or it could be thriving with compounds around every corner. Planets also have nice details such as debris from what seem to be crashed spaceships, which makes the worlds feel so alive. While the graphics aren't ultra-realistic, the colorful and minimalist design makes the game still look beautiful and a joy to look at. The games soundtrack also fits the tone very well, giving the player a sense of awe and wonder, and makes you feel motivated to explore the game's gorgeous planets. The gameplay is also simple but addictive, and you get a massive amount of instant satisfaction any time you figure out how to do something in the game. One thing to note, is that the crafting system is very simple, maybe too simple for some, but it didn't bother me very much through my time in the game. The only gripe I have is that sometimes (though pretty rare) the player will clip through the ground and either fall to their death or suffocate. Overall, Astroneer is a very enjoyable experience, and the game that No Man's Sky should've ended up like. Expand

There would be a lot of great things to say about this game, however the one thing that stands out after official release is the abysmal frame rate (and it's worse in coop). That's the only thing you need to worry about right now. Wait for the devs to fix it then this game will be a must.

This game was extremely hard to play due to performance issues so I could not even enjoy it.

On PS4 and my Macbook Clamshell, this game ran at 24 FPS. But on Xbox it was absolutely disgusting. It ran at 0 FPS, crashed constantly and my console was bricked incredibly badly.

Just delightful. Really enjoy how rewarding it feels to make a discovery or craft a new tool. Some annoying camera and control issues keep it from feeling perfect, but the experience is well worth the work.

Astroneer is a lovely serene survival crafting game that can feel aimless at times, but has masses of potential to be something special.

Astroneer is both gentle and brutal, and which you see more of depends on your own play style. Occasionally, though, you might wish it just had picked a side.

Astroneer is a dream for those who love a sandbox to play around in. It comes with a great design, and a good number of relaxing worlds to explore, mine and create in, with the emphasis constantly being on survival. The controls can be tricky to start with, and there are some weird camera glitches that drop in every now and then, but Astroneer is certainly a game to lose some hours in.
