This is most fun game i have played in 2020. Final Fantasy VII Remake was epic, but these are way too different games to compare. One of the best in 2020?

AC Odyssey was weak, everyone knows it, but Valhalla was solid step back to what made AC games good. People seem to forget that Black Flag had huge open world to explore, so many locations. Only games from now on that deserve to be inspiration for future assassin's creed's are following: AC 4 Black Flag, Unity, some parts of Origins and Valhalla. That's it. I really believe in your company, you have made some great games over the years, please listen to your actual fans, who have supported you for years. Don't listen to small minority who just wants attention and wants to whine about your new games. They don't like anything you have made since 2013, there's absolutely zero reason to listen to them. Not only that, it's overall great game, good story, good voice acting, amazing graphics, one of the best map designs in history of Ubisoft. It's easily one of the best games of 2020, there's not even much competition. Like of the few games that can compete with this (from 2020) is Final Fantasy VII Remake and maybe Doom Eternal, that's literally it. These two are completely different games from AC Valhalla, so it's almost unfair to compare them, but all of them are quality games. Expand

Okay that's enough. This is not any kind of attack by the way. This is just my opinion, just like youtuber Luke Stephens had his opinion. This is just my opinion, just like youtuber Luke Stephens had his opinion. Well he is 100% wrong and has absolutely no idea what he is talking about. There's absolutely no question that i'm bigger AC fan that he could ever dream to be. Calling Valhalla garbage is biggest joke in years. Valhalla is easily better than both Origins and specially Odyssey. Valhalla is first AC game in long time where it has been really interesting to finally explore the open world. You mentioned how interesting pyramids were in Origins, well of course. But here the thing, they were one of the few interesting things about Origins. Most of it was boring empty desert. I don't hate Origins, but it wasn't as interesting as Valhalla. Valhalla has way better story, better character and better open world. You said that England doesn't have landmarks or places to explore. Kidding me? London? Stonehenge? Huge castles? Mountains in Norway? There's so much to explore. Valhalla is easily one of the better designed maps Ubisoft has ever done, just behind Black Flag. There you go. You said that you laugh at people who think Origins is meh, well i laugh at you saying that Valhalla is garbage. There's clearly, very clearly more people who like Valhalla than Origins. Valhalla was biggest PC launch for Ubisoft EVER. It had over 2 million players in launch month alone. Jor Raptor gets 100 000s views on almost every Valhalla video he makes. People very clearly like this game and many have said that they absolutely love Valhalla map designs. Showing your "poll" as some evidence is BS, because most people answered that they haven't even played this game, but you said that people agree with you. Hell no. Thankfully you don't get that many views, so i don't really care that much, but this one video made me write this, because it was just too much nonsense. If you can have your BS opinion, then i have every right to have my opinion about your video and point out false things. I have been Assassin's Creed supporter and fan over 10 years and i very likely like games that you don't even like, because you seem like somebody who hops on hype trains. You know very well that people who whine about new games are just nostalgia nerds who hate every game after AC 3. I have always liked Unity and even Syndicate and i strongly doubt you like them. If you do, fair, but my point about Valhalla's map stands. Expand

AC Valhalla almost feels like "Thank You" letter from Ubisoft to all their fans that have supported them past 7 years. It's truly amazing game and there's nothing more that pisses me off than these absolute nolife losers who gives zeros without even caring about this series or buying it. I wish all the worst in your lives.

Dull and boiler plate game. This series has slipped so far it is ridiculous. Pick another Ubi franchise, replace the names in the story, retexture the activities and you have the same gam over and over again.

    Bad:

Things that were supposed to be different in this version: less open world activities to do (wrong, there are just as many boring icons to look at as before), no side quests (they just renamed them to something else), more "assassin-y" (not really).

Valhalla is even more boring than the last game. It reminds me of AC3, a place I had no interest in visiting that is just a bunch of woods with towns laying around. Nothing in the world made me want to explore. The voice acting is pretty bad, especially the female Eivor. It is like they told the actress to make herself sound like Odin or Zeus. It just sounds dumb. The story it the same typical story in every game.

The bugs, even after all the patches, are bad. After installing the latest patch and playing for 5 minutes I saw vikings pop in and out as they ran, some vikings were running on air and clipping was common. Reminds me of Unity actually.

The combat is even worse than the previous 2 ACs. It's like I'm playing a strategy game now. You are so far zoomed out that it is a couple of puppets hitting each other. The combat speed also seems very wrong. I can dodge backwards but in combat it is a leisurely stroll as whatever enemy is hitting always seems to hit you anyway. Whatever combat tweaks were made to the game need to be reverted.

The skill system, which AC never needed, has gone off the deep end. Taking a page from MMOs or PoE there are now lots of little dots that you can select to get minimal benefits. It takes a lot of dots to truly have any meaning and among the list of "what were they thinking" you cannot see some dots until you can unlock them which makes planning impossible. At least if you couldn't already just go online and look up the full tree. This is a stupid mechanic probably introduced so people wouldn't realize how dumb the whole skill tree system is. This isn't an MMO...

The power level makes no sense whatsoever. I was power level 15 before leaving Norway even though I have no idea how that relates to anything because I didn't get skill points or whatever they are called. At the same time areas I look at in the map say they are power level 1 but the enemies can stomp me in seconds. In an attempt to hide "levels" I guess, Ubi has managed to create a system that is useless. What exactly is wrong with levels?

Side activities are just as dull. Again, think AC3. Flyting makes no sense and is one of the stupidest mini-games I've ever seen in a game. The other activities, like raids, fit in better but are just as dull. You raid a settlement, kill everyone there and then...nothing. Why?

    The Good:

Assassin abilities come back into play a little more than recent entries in the series. I felt I could pull it off more often in this game.

    Summary:

    Dull environment - AC 3
    Bugs - AC Unity
Revamped skills, "side quests", leveling - meaningless

This is overall a boring, generic viking adventure game filled with a map of icons that lead you to things that are just as boring for the most part. There is nothing that really lifted the gameplay up.

Complete disappointment compared to the generally excellent Immortals Fenyx Rising.

Thank god i found Gamespot review for Cyberpunk 2077, they literally gave Cyberpunk 2077 lower score than Valhalla. Cyberpunk must be really buggy, because 7/10 is pretty low score for game that has been in development over 7 years. So as of right now i bought Valhalla and so far it's pretty nice. Maybe trying Cyberpunk 2077 in 2021 when they finally fix the game.

I consider myself pretty big Assassin's Creed fan, but i actually don't like early games much. They feel outdated and i'm just not enjoying them. My top 3 favorite ac games are 4, Unity and Origins (in that order). I also like Syndicate, but not as much as these three. For past 6 years i have been playing 4, Unity and Origins constantly. I have finished Unity almost each year since 2015. I'm also playing 4 constantly, but i haven't finished it as much, because it's way longer game and i love to just free roam there. Now i would say that despite not liking 1,3, Revalations or Rogue (i hate to play as Templar), i would say that absolutely loving later games like 4, Unity, Syndicate and Origins makes me as much Assassin's Creed fan, as someone who only likes first 3.

In fact, i would say i'm bigger fan than these people, because if someone gave up on this series in 2012, then how can you consider yourself a fan? Maybe early fan, but overall if you hate majority of these games, then you are not fan of this series. It's that simple. Why i'm even talking about it is because watching some youtubers making videos "Valhalla disappointed me", "Valhalla is boring" etc, made it very clear that these people were never gonna like Valhalla anyway. No matter what Ubisoft did, these people wouldn't be happy right now and they would still make their videos whining about smallest details that they didn't like.

Instead of enjoying new games for that they are, instead these people want games to be what they want. That's obviously fair, but again, seems like they have ignored this series since 2012. It was so obvious what Valhalla was going to be. How can you be disappointed, when trailers and Ubisoft people on twitter made it very obvious what this game is going to be. Basically no matter what, these people just wanted Valhalla to be this most basic and boring AC Revalations or AC 3 clone and that's all these people want. That's the only AC game they want and if it's not that, then they are going to hate it. That's the sad reality actual AC fans need to live in, where Ubisoft makes great games, but nostalgic people who can't move on are going to hate these games and make their videos. Main problem with these videos is that these people are very clearly trying to manipulate and make other people believe that this game (and other games) suck. While actually problem is not the game, problem is that they just don't like it. Just cause you don't like something, doesn't mean that it's actually bad ya know?

Conclusion : I very much enjoyed Valhalla, it's not perfect, but it's way better than Odyssey was. Story is more interesting than Odyssey's story. It has beautiful graphics, not as good as RDR 2, but still good enough and very modern looking. Combat is fun, main character (male Eivor) is very likable and better than main characters in Origins and Odyssey.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla isn't a light, fast and pragmatic Viking ship. It's a Titanic, magnificent, massive, and majestic, made to lead players through a 9th-century epic. With enough content to keep players busy for hours and hours, it's not threatened by any iceberg but rather by the weight of its own size. For the most dedicated, this can be a treat, but for many others, it could be a game they'll leave unfinished, living forever in the backlog.

Even with its technical shortcomings on last-generation hardware, it is hard to not call Assassin’s Creed Valhalla an amazing open-world RPG. It’s obvious that Ubisoft did its homework and learned from Origins and Odyssey. Valhalla’s story is one of the best not only in the franchise but in the open-world RPG genre. The world is vast but not laden with empty, pointless space. Combat is addicting, character customization is the best the franchise has ever seen, and the welcome return of composer Jesper Kyd makes for one of last year’s most immersive and satisfying experiences.
