Is a excellent game, really appreciate this saga, but it's not perfect, it has a serious downgrade in relation to Odyssey, has less items, less functions, less armours, less weapons, is too simplified i think simplified so much

If you like any of the previous titles, you'll like Valhalla too. The game looks very nice, and the music is very good too.
But, they really should have edited themselves with this game: they really threw anything but the kitchen sink in this game. That diluted the experience for me. I also wasn't totally sold on the ending.

The combat system has been changed a lot and it takes some getting used to but It is fun and rewarding. You don't pick up thousands of weapons and armor pieces like in Odyssey anymore. The game opts for a few pieces that it wants you to upgrade. The game is also visually stunning, making full use of HDR and beautiful landscapes.

while the main story line can get quite boring and especially long, you still want to hang out to the very end to see what's going to happen. asgard and jotunheim chapters were a really good mash up to the main story, and they tell you the tale of scandinavian mythology pretty well. i also liked how quests takes you to a lot of places into the map, and you can basically explore everything the world has to offer same time as you advance in the story.

the gorgeous open world itself is massive and filled with mysteries and loot. now, after app. 200 hours spend in the game (including season pass material), it's starting to finally feel empty. mysteries and sidequests often are filler/copypaste/typical_ubisoft_nonsense material anyways so if you dont want spend so much time on this game you can skip the most part of them.

if you like open world exploring with a decent combat system, with lots of different variations of weapons and skill moves, definitely spend some time with this game. and i urge you to try it if you, like me, lost interest to the series or the lore at some point. two points off the score comes from the copypaste-sidecontent, which ubisoft seems to insist to have on their games.

There are a lot of twists so you better complete the game and like me, you’ll be way excited about what’s to come. Even with some flaws, this game kept me interested all along. Valhalla’s storyline was a bit stretched out but once you get a hang of visiting all the areas in England, you’ll finish it soon enough. It also tries to connect and answer the questions since AC 3. Please note that a new present-day protagonist gets introduced in the game as well.
If you love Assassin’s Creed, then you should definitely check this one out!

Yes, it’s another AC game that feels similar to the previous titles, but it’s still fun to play. I think they improved the combat, the stealth elements, and the game is a bit more realistic I feel. For example you can only chain two assassinations in a row, unlike in odyssey where you could basically kill 4 in a row with the broken spear by teleporting to each of them, here Eivor kills one target and then throws an axe to another one, it looks cool and feels believable. Just a minor thing but I like it. The fighting system is a bit more varied compared to Odyssey, you can use shields and block, dual weapons, or go two handed. it’s not for Honor but I think the fighting is definitely better than in the previous installments.

I did not encounter any bugs so far, about 20 hours into the game. The story so far is decent, nothing extraordinary but if you like Vikings you will like this too. There is a lot to do, and while of course after some time the things you do can become boring, the looting and fighting is satisfying. Also the gear system is much better now that you don’t have a million items in the inventory and can simply keep upgrading your favorite set of gear. The skill tree is new and interesting as well, though it takes some time getting used to, but the fact that you unlock abilities by discovering books in the world gives an even more incentive to explore the world. Some side activities like drinking, dice, and especially bard duels are fun too.

Overall, one of the best AC games ever created. If you watched Vikings and/or Last Kingdom, and like this type of game, you won’t be disappointed. The only criticism is a certain lack of creativity, so if you played some previous AC games, this won’t be anything dramatically different or original for you.

It's a decent-ish game; but unfortunately it is really getting to the point where if you've played one Assassin's Creed game, you've played them all. Ubisoft really needs to come up with some new, innovative, fresh ideas to spice up the franchise. I love the IP, but it's starting to feel like the games are nothing more than reskins of the previous title.

I'd love to give this game a higher rating, but it's so buggy I just can't. The 'Assassin's creed' part of this game is great. As someone who is a hardcore fan of the older games, but hates the new RPG style, the narrative for the assassins/templar stuff and modern day story reminds me of the older games.

The 'side quests' in this game are improved also, there's a much bigger variety of them, some are kinda boring and take literally seconds to do, but they are all neat little bits of flavour in the map compared to the boring 'Go kill these bears in a cave, go clear this bandit camp' quests Odssey was full of. There's also significantly less grind and there's no need to keep chasing new gear every time you level up, since you can upgrade any type of gear.

HOWEVER, that's basically where the praise ends.

The combat feels sluggish and heavy. Even with 'Light' attacks with axes, your character isn't attacking quickly, every swing feels like you're dragging a 10 ton weight around with you. This especially annoying because there are enemy types that attack much quicker than you do with bigger weapons, so these encounters just become overly frustrating, especially when there's multiple enemies.

Although its not as bad as it was previously, areas are still 'level gated' by pointless power levels, that seem to only exist to artificially inflate the game since you're still forced to mess around doing side activities to gain levels before you can do certain areas. The worst part about this is that they didn't even bother to make the 'power' levels make sense - e.g. the higher power enemies dont have more armour, or a bigger shield etc. They are the same enemy types, just with an arbitrary higher number. Even if you drop the game to Easy difficulty, some areas are impossible without some grinding, making it harder for people who dont have time to play much.

Next, the map is just too big. There are multiple settings you travel to in the game (America, Norway, England) but they all suffer from the same problem. They are gigantic, but full of mostly nothing. This makes sense since Norway and England have a lot of mountaints, hills and fields, but from a gameplay perspective it's just boring. Compared to the older games in the franchise, where the maps were smaller but much more compact, with more detail. This game is just a series of boring looking villages and ruins, separated by giant fields and cliffs you have to run around. It ruins the immersion because it interrupts gameplay with tedious running to and fro. This is to be expected given the setting and time period, but Ubisoft chose to make a game set during this time.

As a result of this bland looking world, many of the things that added to the experience of playing as an assassin during the older games just don't exist. Parkour for example, like Oddysey, is a complete afterthought. You can't run from building to building, you can't dodge guards by darting through a window and coming out of the other side of the street like in Unity, you can't use the architecture to escape or chase your prey. Instead, like Odyssey, buildings are really far apart and either one-story, or giant towers, so there's no fluid movement between the two. You climb one building, run across the street, climb the next, run across the street, climb the next. You're not living on the rooftops like Altair or Ezio, jumping from wall to wall, you're just gently climbing buildings like a slow, heavy oaf.

This also affects other aspects like Blending in with crowds, or benches. The buildings are so far apart that you can't dart round corners to hide, because every area is just large open spaces. Despite the reintroduction of some of the classic stealth elements, you can't act like a proper stealthy character due to the level design.

Next, the problems with the 'multiple choice' dialogue that the previous two games had persists - the flow of dialogue is constantly interrupted because every time you need to make a dialogue choice ,the conversation comes to a dead stop whilst everyone is silent till you say something. This ruined the immersion before and still does now.

And finally, the bugs. This is the buggiest game i've ever played. I have a folder on my computer that i've started stockpiling full of screenshots and videos. It ranges from small bugs, like dead guards floating above the ground, or objects flapping around on the ground, to large bugs, like characters being stuck in thin air that you can no longer talk to, stopping quests from progressing, or in a few cases, I had the black & white 'hazy' screen from when you eat the mushrooms nad plants as soon I booted up the game and it wouldn't go away until I quit and reloaded again.

This is incredibly unpolished, to a point that even if you enjoy the combat, and don't care for the story beyond "I wanna be a badass viking and smash stuff up and chop off heads" your gameplay will constantly be interrupted by bugs

I love the story format. Going to a new land, building your settlement, gathering allies, doing raids, all that good stuff. It's very good. The direction is on point and the best in any Assassin's Creed game.

Now for the bad, the puzzles, I guess I'm just not a big fan. I hate the combat, it's not as good as Assassin's Creed Odyssey. The parry maneuver is terrible, the blocking with shields is clunky and slow. I want fast pace super combat, so this isn't it.

The story is boring, except for the real world parts. That's the reason I still play. At least they got that down.

Ubisoft open-world games are awful. Formulaic. Woke. Redundant. Repetitive. Dull. Worst of all it butchers Viking and Anglo-Saxon English history. I was hoping for a beautiful Viking mythological tale and adventure, instead, I got whatever this abomination is. Still, the game is graphically nice and plays well enough, with only the occasional bug.

Dull and boiler plate game. This series has slipped so far it is ridiculous. Pick another Ubi franchise, replace the names in the story, retexture the activities and you have the same gam over and over again.

    Bad:

Things that were supposed to be different in this version: less open world activities to do (wrong, there are just as many boring icons to look at as before), no side quests (they just renamed them to something else), more "assassin-y" (not really).

Valhalla is even more boring than the last game. It reminds me of AC3, a place I had no interest in visiting that is just a bunch of woods with towns laying around. Nothing in the world made me want to explore. The voice acting is pretty bad, especially the female Eivor. It is like they told the actress to make herself sound like Odin or Zeus. It just sounds dumb. The story it the same typical story in every game.

The bugs, even after all the patches, are bad. After installing the latest patch and playing for 5 minutes I saw vikings pop in and out as they ran, some vikings were running on air and clipping was common. Reminds me of Unity actually.

The combat is even worse than the previous 2 ACs. It's like I'm playing a strategy game now. You are so far zoomed out that it is a couple of puppets hitting each other. The combat speed also seems very wrong. I can dodge backwards but in combat it is a leisurely stroll as whatever enemy is hitting always seems to hit you anyway. Whatever combat tweaks were made to the game need to be reverted.

The skill system, which AC never needed, has gone off the deep end. Taking a page from MMOs or PoE there are now lots of little dots that you can select to get minimal benefits. It takes a lot of dots to truly have any meaning and among the list of "what were they thinking" you cannot see some dots until you can unlock them which makes planning impossible. At least if you couldn't already just go online and look up the full tree. This is a stupid mechanic probably introduced so people wouldn't realize how dumb the whole skill tree system is. This isn't an MMO...

The power level makes no sense whatsoever. I was power level 15 before leaving Norway even though I have no idea how that relates to anything because I didn't get skill points or whatever they are called. At the same time areas I look at in the map say they are power level 1 but the enemies can stomp me in seconds. In an attempt to hide "levels" I guess, Ubi has managed to create a system that is useless. What exactly is wrong with levels?

Side activities are just as dull. Again, think AC3. Flyting makes no sense and is one of the stupidest mini-games I've ever seen in a game. The other activities, like raids, fit in better but are just as dull. You raid a settlement, kill everyone there and then...nothing. Why?

    The Good:

Assassin abilities come back into play a little more than recent entries in the series. I felt I could pull it off more often in this game.

    Summary:

    Dull environment - AC 3
    Bugs - AC Unity
Revamped skills, "side quests", leveling - meaningless

This is overall a boring, generic viking adventure game filled with a map of icons that lead you to things that are just as boring for the most part. There is nothing that really lifted the gameplay up.

Complete disappointment compared to the generally excellent Immortals Fenyx Rising.

The ability to easily loot around you by pressing Y wheter you face the object or not. Odyssey pushed things further by allowing you to loot everything around you by pressing Y only once. Now you have to face each object precisely and laboriously, making any loot a long and boring ajustment of camera.

The ability tree is simply impossible to read so I felt I had no choice but to let fate decide each upgrade.

You can define point of interest on the map but you can never see them on foot and you have to call your 'eagle' to maybe see them, that is if you are looking in the direction. It's basically impossible to clearly see where you need to go when on foot.
The 'eagle' has completely changed regarding survey: it's now useless when infiltrating a camp since it marks no enemies.

Origins and Odyssey were also about history. It was really interesting to discover Egypt and Greece. Here, you are no longer encourage to explore to discover history: at most, you'll find a roman mask with no more explanation, just a stuff to collect, like in FarCry3, 10 years ago.

Last but not least: remember those towers to discover new activities? Yes, well they're back. So, get ready to climb tons of towers and mountains to reveal 'activities' and 'treasures'.

It felt obvious that the team watched too much Vikings TV Series and just wanted to play Ragnar Lothbrok.

Everything feels heavy, laborious and clunky.

It saddens me to know that Valhalla was a commercial success because I fear that we'll get more of Valhalla's dated gameplay and much less of Origins' fresh restart...

Geez, where do I begin. To make things clear, this is a good game when working. However, this game on the x box one has way too many bugs, glitches and technical problems. It's unbelievable because both AC Origins and Odyssey didn't have anywhere near the amount of technical issues this game has. You also have bugs where if you do certain missions in the wrong order, you can't continue theGeez, where do I begin. To make things clear, this is a good game when working. Overall, this game is a big disappointment which is unfortunate because I am a huge fan of the series. amount of of glitches Expand

Assassin's Creed Valhalla isn't a light, fast and pragmatic Viking ship. It's a Titanic, magnificent, massive, and majestic, made to lead players through a 9th-century epic. With enough content to keep players busy for hours and hours, it's not threatened by any iceberg but rather by the weight of its own size. For the most dedicated, this can be a treat, but for many others, it could be a game they'll leave unfinished, living forever in the backlog.

Even with its technical shortcomings on last-generation hardware, it is hard to not call Assassin’s Creed Valhalla an amazing open-world RPG. It’s obvious that Ubisoft did its homework and learned from Origins and Odyssey. Valhalla’s story is one of the best not only in the franchise but in the open-world RPG genre. The world is vast but not laden with empty, pointless space. Combat is addicting, character customization is the best the franchise has ever seen, and the welcome return of composer Jesper Kyd makes for one of last year’s most immersive and satisfying experiences.

Assassin’s Creed brings beautiful English countryside to the masses whilst fixing a lot of the series’ recent missteps. Some genuinely fun and surprising moments with some great writing make for a fun time.
