Is a excellent game, really appreciate this saga, but it's not perfect, it has a serious downgrade in relation to Odyssey, has less items, less functions, less armours, less weapons, is too simplified i think simplified so much

If you like any of the previous titles, you'll like Valhalla too. The game looks very nice, and the music is very good too.
But, they really should have edited themselves with this game: they really threw anything but the kitchen sink in this game. That diluted the experience for me. I also wasn't totally sold on the ending.

The combat system has been changed a lot and it takes some getting used to but It is fun and rewarding. You don't pick up thousands of weapons and armor pieces like in Odyssey anymore. The game opts for a few pieces that it wants you to upgrade. The game is also visually stunning, making full use of HDR and beautiful landscapes.

while the main story line can get quite boring and especially long, you still want to hang out to the very end to see what's going to happen. asgard and jotunheim chapters were a really good mash up to the main story, and they tell you the tale of scandinavian mythology pretty well. i also liked how quests takes you to a lot of places into the map, and you can basically explore everything the world has to offer same time as you advance in the story.

the gorgeous open world itself is massive and filled with mysteries and loot. now, after app. 200 hours spend in the game (including season pass material), it's starting to finally feel empty. mysteries and sidequests often are filler/copypaste/typical_ubisoft_nonsense material anyways so if you dont want spend so much time on this game you can skip the most part of them.

if you like open world exploring with a decent combat system, with lots of different variations of weapons and skill moves, definitely spend some time with this game. and i urge you to try it if you, like me, lost interest to the series or the lore at some point. two points off the score comes from the copypaste-sidecontent, which ubisoft seems to insist to have on their games.

There are a lot of twists so you better complete the game and like me, you’ll be way excited about what’s to come. Even with some flaws, this game kept me interested all along. Valhalla’s storyline was a bit stretched out but once you get a hang of visiting all the areas in England, you’ll finish it soon enough. It also tries to connect and answer the questions since AC 3. Please note that a new present-day protagonist gets introduced in the game as well.
If you love Assassin’s Creed, then you should definitely check this one out!

Yes, it’s another AC game that feels similar to the previous titles, but it’s still fun to play. I think they improved the combat, the stealth elements, and the game is a bit more realistic I feel. For example you can only chain two assassinations in a row, unlike in odyssey where you could basically kill 4 in a row with the broken spear by teleporting to each of them, here Eivor kills one target and then throws an axe to another one, it looks cool and feels believable. Just a minor thing but I like it. The fighting system is a bit more varied compared to Odyssey, you can use shields and block, dual weapons, or go two handed. it’s not for Honor but I think the fighting is definitely better than in the previous installments.

I did not encounter any bugs so far, about 20 hours into the game. The story so far is decent, nothing extraordinary but if you like Vikings you will like this too. There is a lot to do, and while of course after some time the things you do can become boring, the looting and fighting is satisfying. Also the gear system is much better now that you don’t have a million items in the inventory and can simply keep upgrading your favorite set of gear. The skill tree is new and interesting as well, though it takes some time getting used to, but the fact that you unlock abilities by discovering books in the world gives an even more incentive to explore the world. Some side activities like drinking, dice, and especially bard duels are fun too.

Overall, one of the best AC games ever created. If you watched Vikings and/or Last Kingdom, and like this type of game, you won’t be disappointed. The only criticism is a certain lack of creativity, so if you played some previous AC games, this won’t be anything dramatically different or original for you.

It's a decent-ish game; but unfortunately it is really getting to the point where if you've played one Assassin's Creed game, you've played them all. Ubisoft really needs to come up with some new, innovative, fresh ideas to spice up the franchise. I love the IP, but it's starting to feel like the games are nothing more than reskins of the previous title.

I'd love to give this game a higher rating, but it's so buggy I just can't. The 'Assassin's creed' part of this game is great. As someone who is a hardcore fan of the older games, but hates the new RPG style, the narrative for the assassins/templar stuff and modern day story reminds me of the older games.

The 'side quests' in this game are improved also, there's a much bigger variety of them, some are kinda boring and take literally seconds to do, but they are all neat little bits of flavour in the map compared to the boring 'Go kill these bears in a cave, go clear this bandit camp' quests Odssey was full of. There's also significantly less grind and there's no need to keep chasing new gear every time you level up, since you can upgrade any type of gear.

HOWEVER, that's basically where the praise ends.

The combat feels sluggish and heavy. Even with 'Light' attacks with axes, your character isn't attacking quickly, every swing feels like you're dragging a 10 ton weight around with you. This especially annoying because there are enemy types that attack much quicker than you do with bigger weapons, so these encounters just become overly frustrating, especially when there's multiple enemies.

Although its not as bad as it was previously, areas are still 'level gated' by pointless power levels, that seem to only exist to artificially inflate the game since you're still forced to mess around doing side activities to gain levels before you can do certain areas. The worst part about this is that they didn't even bother to make the 'power' levels make sense - e.g. the higher power enemies dont have more armour, or a bigger shield etc. They are the same enemy types, just with an arbitrary higher number. Even if you drop the game to Easy difficulty, some areas are impossible without some grinding, making it harder for people who dont have time to play much.

Next, the map is just too big. There are multiple settings you travel to in the game (America, Norway, England) but they all suffer from the same problem. They are gigantic, but full of mostly nothing. This makes sense since Norway and England have a lot of mountaints, hills and fields, but from a gameplay perspective it's just boring. Compared to the older games in the franchise, where the maps were smaller but much more compact, with more detail. This game is just a series of boring looking villages and ruins, separated by giant fields and cliffs you have to run around. It ruins the immersion because it interrupts gameplay with tedious running to and fro. This is to be expected given the setting and time period, but Ubisoft chose to make a game set during this time.

As a result of this bland looking world, many of the things that added to the experience of playing as an assassin during the older games just don't exist. Parkour for example, like Oddysey, is a complete afterthought. You can't run from building to building, you can't dodge guards by darting through a window and coming out of the other side of the street like in Unity, you can't use the architecture to escape or chase your prey. Instead, like Odyssey, buildings are really far apart and either one-story, or giant towers, so there's no fluid movement between the two. You climb one building, run across the street, climb the next, run across the street, climb the next. You're not living on the rooftops like Altair or Ezio, jumping from wall to wall, you're just gently climbing buildings like a slow, heavy oaf.

This also affects other aspects like Blending in with crowds, or benches. The buildings are so far apart that you can't dart round corners to hide, because every area is just large open spaces. Despite the reintroduction of some of the classic stealth elements, you can't act like a proper stealthy character due to the level design.

Next, the problems with the 'multiple choice' dialogue that the previous two games had persists - the flow of dialogue is constantly interrupted because every time you need to make a dialogue choice ,the conversation comes to a dead stop whilst everyone is silent till you say something. This ruined the immersion before and still does now.

And finally, the bugs. This is the buggiest game i've ever played. I have a folder on my computer that i've started stockpiling full of screenshots and videos. It ranges from small bugs, like dead guards floating above the ground, or objects flapping around on the ground, to large bugs, like characters being stuck in thin air that you can no longer talk to, stopping quests from progressing, or in a few cases, I had the black & white 'hazy' screen from when you eat the mushrooms nad plants as soon I booted up the game and it wouldn't go away until I quit and reloaded again.

This is incredibly unpolished, to a point that even if you enjoy the combat, and don't care for the story beyond "I wanna be a badass viking and smash stuff up and chop off heads" your gameplay will constantly be interrupted by bugs

I love the story format. Going to a new land, building your settlement, gathering allies, doing raids, all that good stuff. It's very good. The direction is on point and the best in any Assassin's Creed game.

Now for the bad, the puzzles, I guess I'm just not a big fan. I hate the combat, it's not as good as Assassin's Creed Odyssey. The parry maneuver is terrible, the blocking with shields is clunky and slow. I want fast pace super combat, so this isn't it.

The story is boring, except for the real world parts. That's the reason I still play. At least they got that down.

Ubisoft open-world games are awful. Formulaic. Woke. Redundant. Repetitive. Dull. Worst of all it butchers Viking and Anglo-Saxon English history. I was hoping for a beautiful Viking mythological tale and adventure, instead, I got whatever this abomination is. Still, the game is graphically nice and plays well enough, with only the occasional bug.

Dull and boiler plate game. This series has slipped so far it is ridiculous. Pick another Ubi franchise, replace the names in the story, retexture the activities and you have the same gam over and over again.

    Bad:

Things that were supposed to be different in this version: less open world activities to do (wrong, there are just as many boring icons to look at as before), no side quests (they just renamed them to something else), more "assassin-y" (not really).

Valhalla is even more boring than the last game. It reminds me of AC3, a place I had no interest in visiting that is just a bunch of woods with towns laying around. Nothing in the world made me want to explore. The voice acting is pretty bad, especially the female Eivor. It is like they told the actress to make herself sound like Odin or Zeus. It just sounds dumb. The story it the same typical story in every game.

The bugs, even after all the patches, are bad. After installing the latest patch and playing for 5 minutes I saw vikings pop in and out as they ran, some vikings were running on air and clipping was common. Reminds me of Unity actually.

The combat is even worse than the previous 2 ACs. It's like I'm playing a strategy game now. You are so far zoomed out that it is a couple of puppets hitting each other. The combat speed also seems very wrong. I can dodge backwards but in combat it is a leisurely stroll as whatever enemy is hitting always seems to hit you anyway. Whatever combat tweaks were made to the game need to be reverted.

The skill system, which AC never needed, has gone off the deep end. Taking a page from MMOs or PoE there are now lots of little dots that you can select to get minimal benefits. It takes a lot of dots to truly have any meaning and among the list of "what were they thinking" you cannot see some dots until you can unlock them which makes planning impossible. At least if you couldn't already just go online and look up the full tree. This is a stupid mechanic probably introduced so people wouldn't realize how dumb the whole skill tree system is. This isn't an MMO...

The power level makes no sense whatsoever. I was power level 15 before leaving Norway even though I have no idea how that relates to anything because I didn't get skill points or whatever they are called. At the same time areas I look at in the map say they are power level 1 but the enemies can stomp me in seconds. In an attempt to hide "levels" I guess, Ubi has managed to create a system that is useless. What exactly is wrong with levels?

Side activities are just as dull. Again, think AC3. Flyting makes no sense and is one of the stupidest mini-games I've ever seen in a game. The other activities, like raids, fit in better but are just as dull. You raid a settlement, kill everyone there and then...nothing. Why?

    The Good:

Assassin abilities come back into play a little more than recent entries in the series. I felt I could pull it off more often in this game.

    Summary:

    Dull environment - AC 3
    Bugs - AC Unity
Revamped skills, "side quests", leveling - meaningless

This is overall a boring, generic viking adventure game filled with a map of icons that lead you to things that are just as boring for the most part. There is nothing that really lifted the gameplay up.

Complete disappointment compared to the generally excellent Immortals Fenyx Rising.

The ability to easily loot around you by pressing Y wheter you face the object or not. Odyssey pushed things further by allowing you to loot everything around you by pressing Y only once. Now you have to face each object precisely and laboriously, making any loot a long and boring ajustment of camera.

The ability tree is simply impossible to read so I felt I had no choice but to let fate decide each upgrade.

You can define point of interest on the map but you can never see them on foot and you have to call your 'eagle' to maybe see them, that is if you are looking in the direction. It's basically impossible to clearly see where you need to go when on foot.
The 'eagle' has completely changed regarding survey: it's now useless when infiltrating a camp since it marks no enemies.

Origins and Odyssey were also about history. It was really interesting to discover Egypt and Greece. Here, you are no longer encourage to explore to discover history: at most, you'll find a roman mask with no more explanation, just a stuff to collect, like in FarCry3, 10 years ago.

Last but not least: remember those towers to discover new activities? Yes, well they're back. So, get ready to climb tons of towers and mountains to reveal 'activities' and 'treasures'.

It felt obvious that the team watched too much Vikings TV Series and just wanted to play Ragnar Lothbrok.

Everything feels heavy, laborious and clunky.

It saddens me to know that Valhalla was a commercial success because I fear that we'll get more of Valhalla's dated gameplay and much less of Origins' fresh restart...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is so strange in that it is possibly the most average game I've ever played.

    Pros:

    - The graphics are good

    - The combat, skill tree and abilities give you plenty of choice in playstyle

    Cons:

    - The game definitively outstays it's welcome by a great deal.

    - Some of the side quests are fairly terrible. Stacking rocks or fishing x10 of an item in a single player RPG is not my idea of fun.

    - Some of the narrative in the game is questionable. After spending less than a day with Basim your brother suddenly loses all sense and refuses to listen to you, Dag wants to fight you because you're doing what your brother asked and he doesn't like you for some reason that's not explained.

    - The biggest relief in getting 100% in the game is that I don't have to play the game anymore.

It would be a very beautiful and satisfying experience if I didn't have to keep resetting the game because it froze or glitched on me. A MAJOR step down performance-wise from Odyssey. I do not recommend this game AT ALL unless the glitches and too-constant game freezes can be fixed.

Jarring cutscene transitions, annoyingly timed check-points, annoyingly placed fast-travel points, weird selection of NPC accents (an American in Viking age England?), NPC merchants that won't stop flailing their arms, and so many little, sometimes not so little, bugs.

Worse, is the way the narrative is split across so many clearly defined zones, meaning you always know your progress, but more specifically, how much progress is left to do. It also makes the story itself easy to forget. I literally had to google whether i'd finished the story. I wasn't sure. I was so lost with what i had even been working towards. It's incredibly bizarre how moral the protagonist is, and yet we spend so much time burning down villages. Could we have not leaned into the character's dark side at all, or would that be asking too much of the writers?

The combat is not good enough considering how much of it there is. You can just button mash most of the time. The entire game is very, very easy. It was only when i was severely under-levelled and at the end of the game, that i found any sort of challenge. This suggests a balancing issue as well. The RPG mechanics are more pointless than ever, with you even able to re-spec your skills at any time. That's not an RPG. That is just giving me busy-work in the menu's after every mission.

To conclude, there is way too much of everything in Valhalla. It means a lot of repetition, and most significantly, a lack of quality.

I like Orlog though, which is a side activity in the game, and the world events. Everything else, however, is devoid of any creativity.

It's extremely subpar for a AAA game in 2020. Not only is the whole story one boring quest after the other (go here and fight, then fight over there). But everything around the story is boring too. But the textures, models, and animations all make the game look early access. The game needed 6 more months at least to be finished.

You must manually focus each target, otherwise you will attack ANYTHING on the field. You might be looking at one target, but once you attack, you will turn around 180 degrees and start swinging at a target behind you that is nowhere near your attack radius.
Similarly while parkouring, your character may jump on to objects with no rhyme or reason and refuse to get off for a while, compromising a flight from a swarm of enemies in some cases.
    - The game released in a terrible state with memory leaks being (yet again) a huge culprit of crashing and freezing at regular intervals for many players.
    - The quest system is a bloated mess, with no focus to the world and random quests thrown in for xp fodder that have no bearing or impact on the narrative. Many in fact have some provoking decisions to be made that mean little in the scheme of the game.
In fact, some world quests will allow you to complete them - spoiling story quests that are coming further along in the main questline.

I wish I could in good conscience recommend this game, but in the state it's in I can't even recommend it for leisurely play until the freezing and crashing and memory leaks are addressed and taken care of.

To be honest, it was pretty disappointing. There is no new mechanics from the previous game i played, it feels as if it was the same game, same type of missions, and nothing really new was added. i don't want to sound negative, but because of my experience with AC, it kinda makes it feel like the RPG FIFA. It changes very little, the story is not great. Most of the missions you do just fill like filler, and it gets super long. I didn't get invested in my character, i don't care for his struggles. The only reason why i kept going was just to finish it because i was bored. At the beginning, (first 20 hours) i would try and investigate all of the world. Then i realized it was the same process, which never really gave e and advantage. It was just more loot (useless, and didn't make a huge difference). The story just didn't grab me, the side characters never developed. There was no growth, no pain, no struggle to keep you going wondering what would happen next. This will probably be my last AC purchase. The story wasn't good, the mechanics of the game are just a wash up. Nothing significantly new or exciting. Honestly if you're thinking of picking this game up, i would say wait till it's on sale. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you are looking for a game with a structured story line that allows you to play the part of a clear protagonist then look past AC (Assassins Creed) Valhalla as you will not find that here.

If you like the idea of your primary requirement for progression being to raid, kill and pillage innocent villages and monasteries and burn down the cottages of suffering villagers then by all means this is the game for you! In addition you also get the choice to have an affair with the wife of your best friend and adopted brother. Super! It really makes you feel like a genuine hero... =-/

I gave up hope on the AC series after AC Unity. I tried to give the series a chance again with Odyssey and Origins but was unimpressed. That being said, I liked the story of both WAY better then Valhalla.
Despite my recent negative experiences, after seeing awesome commercials and reading rave reviews I had a renewed hope for the series and decided to get the game. After 50+ hours playing the game waiting for things to make sense, provide a sense of purpose and for the story-line to evolve into one where the main character Eivor becomes a good guy I came to the realization that was never going to happen and here I am writing this review.

The final straw for me was when a Viking comrade (Ivarr) tricks you (Eivor) into attacking an opposing king (After a Peace deal was made) by framing that opposing king for the murder of a mutual friend . Ok, whatever, I can deal with that you gotta come up with creative reasons to fight big battles... After all, its just a game. The part that absolutely disgusted me is after the battle you are forced to standby while Ivarr tortures the King (who had previously bested Ivarr in a battle and let Ivarr go instead of killing him). No matter what you decide for in game choices (1 - Let the king go, 2 - Let him die from his wounds, 3 - Ok Ivarr do w/e it is you want to do to the king) the game ends up with you watching Ivarr torture a guy for something he didn't do. Furthermore, Ivarr is the one who framed the king and actually killed the mutual friend. If your like me your wondering what the point of in game choices are if they don't effect the outcome. Clearly the choices are superficial. That's lame...

Final note - If you may find yourself offended by consistent smears, comments and attacks on the christian faith throughout this game I would advise you to avoid AC Valhalla.

Thank you UBISoft for taking a fantastic series that began with Altaïr and Ezio dragging it through the mud while simultaneously riding its coat tails.

The quality Story, Cinematic Cut Scenes, Fighting Style, Stealth requirement and Character/Plot development I came to know and love in the AC series seen in Altaïr and Ezio's time is gone and clearly it is not coming back.

**BEWARE THE FAKE GOOD REVIEWS AND "HELPFUL REVIEWS"**

Out of the RPG style trilogy (Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla), this one is far and away the worst, in fact this might be the worst AC game ever. I doubt this will change.

    Cons:
    - Feels more dead than any other AC game. The few NPCs that are there are even less lively than Skyrim NPCs, and this game is a decade newer.
    - The acting so far is worse than any AC game in recent memory. Eivor's actress is not good, none of the side characters are good (at least not yet).
    - The open world so far feels extremely hollow, boring, and repetitive. The side quests are so out of the way and are all over the place on difficulty. Despite being the newest game, this has visuals that are worse than Origins, Odyssey, and Unity.
    - The entire health system. First of all, the fact your health doesn't regenerate when out of combat AT ALL is the most stupid design decision I've ever seen in a video game. You need to constantly be looking for food, looting bushes for berries (good luck figuring out which ones have them). You can also only hold a few rations at a time, which are effectively your health packs.
    - The game is extremely buggy.
    - The control layout. If you played AC Origins and Odyssey and used the alternate controls, well I hate to inform you that they are not in Valhalla. They have a feature called "customize controls" but the problem is you can't customize anything without breaking the controls. I tried every variation I could to get a Unity/Syndicate/Origins/Odyssey layout, but each one resulted in other functions becoming unusable (assassinations, interacting, crouching). It's just awful and these controls are completely foreign to any RPG I've ever played. RB/RT to attack? RB being the light attack? X to roll? Whose idea was this???
    - The bird is completely useless. It can't spot anything at all.
    - It's often too dark in caves and it's a huge pain to equip torches in this game. What was wrong with Origins and Odyssey torches Ubisoft??? This is awful.
    - The skill tree is ridiculous to navigate through. It takes up far too room, is not clear enough, the icons are too small without zooming in, and everything is too far apart and spread out for no reason. It's also impossible to tell why they are divided this way.
    - The combat is just ridiculous. It's too choppy to rely on parrying and dodging doesn't always work, sometimes it'll dodge twice right away. Worst part is dodging consumes stamina.
    - Extremely repetitive combat. The archery combat combines the worst of Odyssey and worst of Origins to make what is the most annoying ranged combat in a game. Like Origins it has the different arrow types (a good thing), but unlike Origins you can only have one bow on you at a time.
    - The game has been out several months and there are still constant Reddit threads of bugs. Ubisoft will not address the button mapping issues.
    - The parkour is the worst parkour I've seen yet. It's way worse than Unity which had issues. The character is so clunky to use and constantly changes directions too easily. Want to climb up? Too bad you're going sideways! But just like the previous two AC games, the old frustrations of climbing are also still there.

If you care about this series, just watch a Let's Play on YouTube. This is not worth your money OR your time. I can't think of any good to put into this. It's historically inaccurate. This is all coming from someone who hated Origins and Odyssey at first and then gave them a chance and wound up liking them a fair bit (despite their flaws). I hope this story gets better because right now I'm not sold on anything.

IMO the worst AC game yet. Gorgeous visuals and that's about it. A looooooooong, boring, bloated grind otherwise. Too many glitches, bugs and general inability to complete missions/world events to give this more than a 2 out of 10. This is like a beta version for testing purposes. Microtransaction heaven if you want the best gear which is otherwise unavailable through gameplay. Shameful.

Side quests don’t give you direction you have to work out what to do yourself (which in theory sounds interesting but actually can be annoying as you wander aimlessly wondering what the game wants you to do) Also bugs. Several times I’ve had issues EG killed a guard only for the guard that was talking to him at the time to just wander off after point blank seeing his mate drop to the floor with an arrow in his face mid conversation. The game is garbage and boring. The whole Nordic thing just doesn't fit in with assassins creed it just doesn't. This seems like a witcher 3 wannabe and it falls flat on its flat face. The game performance also takes a nose dive with screen tearing and frame rate issues. Trading it in and buying something else not my type of game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The mere thought of having Loki fool Odin is Throwing away lighsaber level stupidity. Also...portraying Loki as a Trevor looking wannabe says huge amounts about how the process went. With the same climbing lightpoles mechanics and overall lack of respect for the source material I can only summarize this experience with with one sentence. Buy Cyberpunk 2077.

Hidden Ones don't even seem like bad guys, you're just killing them to overtake their homeland.
The ship is annoying as hell. Turn left it goes right. Open sail and sail to destination, it goes opposite way. World events are annoying side quests but much much worse.
    Runes, bad leveling system.
Abilities, not fun like Odyssey. World pretty on top of a mountain, bugle when u get close to a tree. Bugs, bugs, bugs. Been stuck inside my horses ass, no joke.
Been stuck in a tree. All parts of England that could be unique and explored like Sherwood forest or Stonehenge are bland and nothing of interest happens. Where are past famous people? This list could go on and on. I scored it way way too early on PS4 and gave a 7. This at max deserves a 3.5, MAYBE. The more I play, the more I hate it. At 106 hours now and still trying to finish this game. I have never played a game I spoke out loud how much I hate it. Just went to open a chest. It was under water. Dove in and said, I bet I need a jey. I need a key. Go to climb a tree where key is. Get stuck INSIDE TREE! Now Ubisoft has so many outfits for sale with real money and a blaster for XP and selling maps and selling this and that. Done with AC FOREVER NOW!

Yeah part 2 just to update. Valhalla has an auto parkour feature where you run and then start climbing. No need to hold A. Sounds great right? Nope.

After being let down by Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Origins and Odyssey i became cautiously optimistic for this title after the Devs had said they took feedback from fans seriously and made changes to bring it more in line with Classic Assassin's Creed Gameplay. upon Launch the game had a fully functioning in game item store, I'm talking minute one. this was my first knock on it. upon starting up the game i'm given the option to play either Female or Male. like whatever i don't care. went Male, upon trying to play the game on my Xbox One X, the Game experiences Load Times up to 5 Minutes. and in true Ubisoft Fashion the game features an incredible amount of game breaking bugs. from frequent crashing sending me back a few hours of play time despite there being a autosave system. to getting stuck on the side of a 1 Meter Hill. the Game experiences frequent frame rate drop, and audio and video loss. during one such occasion one of the Brothers Ragnarsson completely disappeared and lost Audio. so when addressed by Eivor or Ubba the Camera would pan to a Empty Space and the Characters would just stare at the Space in Silence. the Audio Loss is far more frequent. and by that i mean constant. the game also does not feature Norse, Dane, or Briton Swords of any type usable by the Character except for Gigantic almost unbelievably sized Darks Souls Esc Greatsword. so if you thought you would be rushing in with a Longsword you are wrong. this is despite Sword Models Existing in game for Longswords and Norse and Dane Weapons. and you will even see NPC's using them. Additionally when you put your weapons away onto your back or into the weird Loopy things all of your weapons shrink dramatically in size. which is very immersion breaking. once you see it. you cannot unsee it. a War Hammer goes from being the Size of a Paper weight to the Size of Mjlonir from the Avengers movie in a Instant. this is true for all weapons and Swords in the game. the Boat Adventures seem neat and they feature the ability for you to enable singing, or to have a crewmate tell a tale. unfortunately anytime they spot a Bandit Camp, or you go under a Bridge or see a Monestary they stop singing until you pass. and this is frequent. All in all going into this Title i said that this is Ubisofts last chance from me. i don't understand how a dev can fall so far. from creating something truly groundbreaking with the story of Altair to the lazy development shown in any of their recent titles which are blatant cash grabs featuring no actual passion like we saw in 2007. this will be the last time i spend a Dollar on a Ubisoft Title. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Absolute worst AC game I’ve ever played. The main story is confusing and boring, the once prime objective of AC games, defeating the Templars, is now a pointless time-consuming side quest which leads to an unsatisfying conclusion. The side quests, now called mysteries, are boring and unrewarding except for a certain amount of XP which leads to useless skills. The abilities are just a rehash of Odysseys’ but have Montreal have somehow made it worse. The other collectibles such as treasures, Roman masks and such are time-wasting and also pointless as weapon perks and stats are essentially useless. The druids DLC however is a breath of fresh air, even though it’s more of the same, the map size and amount of collectibles are satisfying and actually rewarding. The mastery challenges however have destroyed my opinion of AC games, the frustrating objectives such as “headshot kill every enemy” and “weak point shots” mixed with terrible enemy AI have made the game near impossible to complete which lead to a teaser about their upcoming unannounced DLC. The only thing the mastery challenges actually challenge, is Ubisoft’s ability to make a good Assassins Creed game. Hopefully Ubisoft Montreal does not make another AC game in the future. Expand

I patiently worked my way through much of the story and as far as regular combatants its fine and easy mode lets you slice through everyone easily. The cultist characters and 'special monsters' however remain impossible to get past. I built myself up to 222 power level to take on a 90 power level cultist. No go. They defeated me easily. This isn't okay. When I want easy mode I am playing for story not to develop complex gaming skills for your game. Assassin's Creed Valhalla isn't a light, fast and pragmatic Viking ship. It's a Titanic, magnificent, massive, and majestic, made to lead players through a 9th-century epic. With enough content to keep players busy for hours and hours, it's not threatened by any iceberg but rather by the weight of its own size. For the most dedicated, this can be a treat, but for many others, it could be a game they'll leave unfinished, living forever in the backlog.

Even with its technical shortcomings on last-generation hardware, it is hard to not call Assassin’s Creed Valhalla an amazing open-world RPG. It’s obvious that Ubisoft did its homework and learned from Origins and Odyssey. Valhalla’s story is one of the best not only in the franchise but in the open-world RPG genre. The world is vast but not laden with empty, pointless space. Combat is addicting, character customization is the best the franchise has ever seen, and the welcome return of composer Jesper Kyd makes for one of last year’s most immersive and satisfying experiences.
