Despite the game-breaking bugs at launch (and then some), this is Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

I was skeptical about this and waited two years to get the game, but finally played it and can say that this is at least as good as Odyssey, possibly even better. I don’t get the bad reviews really.

Yes, it’s another AC game that feels similar to the previous titles, but it’s still fun to play. I think they improved the combat, the stealth elements, and the game is a bit more realistic I feel. For example you can only chain two assassinations in a row, unlike in odyssey where you could basically kill 4 in a row with the broken spear by teleporting to each of them, here Eivor kills one target and then throws an axe to another one, it looks cool and feels believable. Just a minor thing but I like it. The fighting system is a bit more varied compared to Odyssey, you can use shields and block, dual weapons, or go two handed. it’s not for Honor but I think the fighting is definitely better than in the previous installments.

I did not encounter any bugs so far, about 20 hours into the game. The story so far is decent, nothing extraordinary but if you like Vikings you will like this too. There is a lot to do, and while of course after some time the things you do can become boring, the looting and fighting is satisfying. Also the gear system is much better now that you don’t have a million items in the inventory and can simply keep upgrading your favorite set of gear. The skill tree is new and interesting as well, though it takes some time getting used to, but the fact that you unlock abilities by discovering books in the world gives an even more incentive to explore the world. Some side activities like drinking, dice, and especially bard duels are fun too.

Overall, one of the best AC games ever created. If you watched Vikings and/or Last Kingdom, and like this type of game, you won’t be disappointed. The only criticism is a certain lack of creativity, so if you played some previous AC games, this won’t be anything dramatically different or original for you.

If you like any of the previous titles, you'll like Valhalla too. The game looks very nice, and the music is very good too.
But, they really should have edited themselves with this game: they really threw anything but the kitchen sink in this game. That diluted the experience for me. I also wasn't totally sold on the ending.

i get why this game gets so much hate from assassins creed fans - it's not really a good assassin game. but i would say that it is a damn good viking game.

while the main story line can get quite boring and especially long, you still want to hang out to the very end to see what's going to happen. asgard and jotunheim chapters were a really good mash up to the main story, and they tell you the tale of scandinavian mythology pretty well. i also liked how quests takes you to a lot of places into the map, and you can basically explore everything the world has to offer same time as you advance in the story.

the gorgeous open world itself is massive and filled with mysteries and loot. now, after app. 200 hours spend in the game (including season pass material), it's starting to finally feel empty. mysteries and sidequests often are filler/copypaste/typical_ubisoft_nonsense material anyways so if you dont want spend so much time on this game you can skip the most part of them.

if you like open world exploring with a decent combat system, with lots of different variations of weapons and skill moves, definitely spend some time with this game. and i urge you to try it if you, like me, lost interest to the series or the lore at some point. two points off the score comes from the copypaste-sidecontent, which ubisoft seems to insist to have on their games.

There are a lot of twists so you better complete the game and like me, you’ll be way excited about what’s to come. Even with some flaws, this game kept me interested all along. Valhalla’s storyline was a bit stretched out but once you get a hang of visiting all the areas in England, you’ll finish it soon enough. It also tries to connect and answer the questions since AC 3. Please note that a new present-day protagonist gets introduced in the game as well.
If you love Assassin’s Creed, then you should definitely check this one out!

I recommend this game especially for those who want to experience a fantastic role-playing game, with many elements of the early assassin's creed. I really liked the fact that the too repetitive stories of the first chapters of the Assassin's Creed saga have been abandoned. Valhalla is a well structured game, the map is large, but given its incredible variety I call it one of the best open world ever. The best thing about this game is that it is not only an assassin's creed, but it is a story of a Viking and his entire universe and this is what makes it a unique and wonderful game of its kind. Until Resident Evil Village comes out, it's literally only 2020 game that is still worth playing. Doom Eternal got old very fast and i'm not gonna play Tony Hawk 1+2 Remake 24/7. Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the biggest fails of all time. Resident Evil 3 Remake was too short and boring. Last of Us 2 is one of the worst games ever made. Watch Dogs Legion is pathetic. Final Fantasy VII Remake has no reason to play again, even tho good game. Ghost of Tsushima has one of the worst camera angles in any video game ever, so i just can't play it, but it doesn't seem very interesting anyway. Marvel's Avengers is a joke. Mafia 1 Remake had good story, but has one of the emptiest open-worlds ever, there's absolutely nothing to do or explore.

So what's left? Literally only one game - Assassin's Creed Valhalla! It's not best game ever / not best AC game, but at least it's fun enough and DLC's almost look more interesting than main game, so i'm hyped. There's obviously always option to play older games (i do that literally all the time), but this review is for people who want something new.

I consider myself pretty big Assassin's Creed fan, but i actually don't like early games much. They feel outdated and i'm just not enjoying them. My top 3 favorite ac games are 4, Unity and Origins (in that order). I also like Syndicate, but not as much as these three. For past 6 years i have been playing 4, Unity and Origins constantly. I have finished Unity almost each year since 2015. I'm also playing 4 constantly, but i haven't finished it as much, because it's way longer game and i love to just free roam there. Now i would say that despite not liking 1,3, Revalations or Rogue (i hate to play as Templar), i would say that absolutely loving later games like 4, Unity, Syndicate and Origins makes me as much Assassin's Creed fan, as someone who only likes first 3.

In fact, i would say i'm bigger fan than these people, because if someone gave up on this series in 2012, then how can you consider yourself a fan? Maybe early fan, but overall if you hate majority of these games, then you are not fan of this series. It's that simple. Why i'm even talking about it is because watching some youtubers making videos "Valhalla disappointed me", "Valhalla is boring" etc, made it very clear that these people were never gonna like Valhalla anyway. No matter what Ubisoft did, these people wouldn't be happy right now and they would still make their videos whining about smallest details that they didn't like.

Instead of enjoying new games for that they are, instead these people want games to be what they want. That's obviously fair, but again, seems like they have ignored this series since 2012. It was so obvious what Valhalla was going to be. How can you be disappointed, when trailers and Ubisoft people on twitter made it very obvious what this game is going to be. Basically no matter what, these people just wanted Valhalla to be this most basic and boring AC Revalations or AC 3 clone and that's all these people want. That's the only AC game they want and if it's not that, then they are going to hate it. That's the sad reality actual AC fans need to live in, where Ubisoft makes great games, but nostalgic people who can't move on are going to hate these games and make their videos. Main problem with these videos is that these people are very clearly trying to manipulate and make other people believe that this game (and other games) suck. While actually problem is not the game, problem is that they just don't like it. Just cause you don't like something, doesn't mean that it's actually bad ya know?

Conclusion : I very much enjoyed Valhalla, it's not perfect, but it's way better than Odyssey was. Story is more interesting than Odyssey's story. It has beautiful graphics, not as good as RDR 2, but still good enough and very modern looking. Combat is fun, main character (male Eivor) is very likable and better than main characters in Origins and Odyssey.

Only reason i even started caring about AC series was AC 4. Making AC 4 is literally best decision Ubisoft has ever done. I'm so, so, so glad that this Desmond **** went finally away. Reason most people play these games i going back in time, not some modern day nonsense. I wish these games never had modern day, but it is what it is, thankfully AC games got so much better starting with AC 4. AC 3 was just horrible. Ubisoft, you should only listen to your real fans, not this minority who doesn't even care about anything you have done since 2013. They are almost as annoying as people who whine under every resident evil 4 remake video, that they want code veronica remake more. These who whine about code veronica are also just small group of people who don't even care about resident evil 4 at all. It's literally same with thing with AC games. There's absolutely no question that i'm bigger AC fan that he could ever dream to be. Calling Valhalla garbage is biggest joke in years. Valhalla is easily better than both Origins and specially Odyssey. Valhalla is first AC game in long time where it has been really interesting to finally explore the open world. You mentioned how interesting pyramids were in Origins, well of course. But here the thing, they were one of the few interesting things about Origins. Most of it was boring empty desert. I don't hate Origins, but it wasn't as interesting as Valhalla. Valhalla has way better story, better character and better open world. You said that England doesn't have landmarks or places to explore. Kidding me? London? Stonehenge? Huge castles? Mountains in Norway? There's so much to explore. Valhalla is easily one of the better designed maps Ubisoft has ever done, just behind Black Flag. There you go. You said that you laugh at people who think Origins is meh, well i laugh at you saying that Valhalla is garbage. There's clearly, very clearly more people who like Valhalla than Origins. Valhalla was biggest PC launch for Ubisoft EVER. It had over 2 million players in launch month alone. Jor Raptor gets 100 000s views on almost every Valhalla video he makes. People very clearly like this game and many have said that they absolutely love Valhalla map designs. Showing your "poll" as some evidence is BS, because most people answered that they haven't even played this game, but you said that people agree with you. Hell no. Thankfully you don't get that many views, so i don't really care that much, but this one video made me write this, because it was just too much nonsense. If you can have your BS opinion, then i have every right to have my opinion about your video and point out false things. I have been Assassin's Creed supporter and fan over 10 years and i very likely like games that you don't even like, because you seem like somebody who hops on hype trains. You know very well that people who whine about new games are just nostalgia nerds who hate every game after AC 3. I have always liked Unity and even Syndicate and i strongly doubt you like them. Here you play as avore, becauseubisoft cares more about its precious sales you chose either man version or female version because ubisoft is afraid to commit and want to make everyone happy.. you set off on a Viking adventure to basically take over England during the dark ages.. and sadly this is more of a Viking game with assassins creed mechanics rather than an assassins creed game where you play as a Viking, the lore of the Templars and the assassins is there.. infct the whole uncovering the order side thing odyssey had going on is valhallas main focus, and I love that… however the game built around it is the most hallow money grab of a game in probably the entire assassins creed series… they sold you on Vikings, rob and pillage, this is fun about 0 times, its never fun going into an area for a raid, opening chests and collecting all of the loot, its repetive and bland, and that can be said for the entire game… im one to uncover every inch of an assassins creed game, read very document, platinum it.. but assassins creed Valhalla is so hollow that I found myself skipping through a lot of its dialog as the story is broken up into individual kingdoms you go out and help… this is less of an assassins creed game, you know.. a game where you relive memories of someone that was supposed to have actually existed to learn more about the orer and the places of the pieces of edden, and just a boring Viking game where you go from kingdom to kingdom taking care of that kingdoms individual problems, it’s a 70 hour long game of individual mini stories that by themselves could be okay experiences, but in an assassins creed game they feel like a waste of time not adding anything to the overall world of assassins creed, no one will remember Valhalla as a step forward for the series, infact in a lot fof places Valhalla steps back, for example its loot, there is next to none, yet you still collect it from time to time, its such an awkward system that you forget there are other weapons and armorus you can pick up.. youll mpost likely stick to the first or second piece of gear you find in the game and stick to that all the way through, especially thanks to the grind heavy upgrading system here that require a ridiculous amount of recourses to upgrade weapons… where Valhalla steps forward though is you making choices that actually matter, your choices have consequences, you have different paths with different characters you can go down that don’t feel empty like odyssey did.. but back to the intial point, this is great if assassins creed were an rpg seres set in different time periods… but its not, its meant to be an experience of a story already told, not an unwritten story of your grandpa and you get to chose if he banged other Vikings or not… tell me if avor was gay or not, don’t let me chose, again.. commit to a character, tell me their story… this is not a solution to the story telling critques players have.. this is assassins creed, not dragon age.. tell me the story as it happened… but this is thebiggest assins creed game to date, though bigger isn’t always better, another first, this s the first time I gave up on collecting all the things in an assassins creed game, for one,, again the world felt boring pointless and hallow, even the side quests that were supposed to be the talk of the town, except for the mini game orlog, it had its hooks in me like gwent, and I love hunting down the zealots of the land, bringing my back to the original assassins creed.. but the colelctables here, the game just makes you work too hard to get, one too many are locked behind story progress – why even put it on the map then… and evry other one ios locked behing an environment puzzle.. I don’t mind this eveyr once in a while , but map cleaning in assassins creed is a form of meditation, if I have to figure out how to get to literally every chest in the world, it isn’t meditation anymore, it’s a puzzle game outside of the story, no thanks. Also traversal here is probably the worst in the series too, its wakward, plenty pof annoying deaths at the hands of climbing, The biggest disappointment overall is this games story, the worst ending in history if you can even call it an ending and the outside of the animus world features the least likably protagonist of all time, smoking doesn’t make you look like a badass, it makes you look inconsiderate of the people around you, but again, assassins creed Valhalla is a great game, the combat is fun, you can go down different paths to play the way you prefer, brute, ranged, stealth, or a mix of all 3…

Assassin's Creed Valhalla isn't a light, fast and pragmatic Viking ship. It's a Titanic, magnificent, massive, and majestic, made to lead players through a 9th-century epic. With enough content to keep players busy for hours and hours, it's not threatened by any iceberg but rather by the weight of its own size. For the most dedicated, this can be a treat, but for many others, it could be a game they'll leave unfinished, living forever in the backlog.

Even with its technical shortcomings on last-generation hardware, it is hard to not call Assassin’s Creed Valhalla an amazing open-world RPG. It’s obvious that Ubisoft did its homework and learned from Origins and Odyssey. Valhalla’s story is one of the best not only in the franchise but in the open-world RPG genre. The world is vast but not laden with empty, pointless space. Combat is addicting, character customization is the best the franchise has ever seen, and the welcome return of composer Jesper Kyd makes for one of last year’s most immersive and satisfying experiences.

Assassin’s Creed brings beautiful English countryside to the masses whilst fixing a lot of the series’ recent missteps. Some genuinely fun and surprising moments with some great writing make for a fun time.
