While some may simply think of Alvastia Chronicles as a low budget retro RPG, but for under $20 CAD, you could do a lot worse; the characters have enough depth and personality that I was chuckling at many points throughout my journey, wanting to see its conclusion. KEMCO did a great job here, giving classic RPG fans a great value with just enough depth to be an interesting adventure.

Collecting all the characters, finding all the weapons, and exploring the depths of the character screen alone will keep you busy for many hours, and with an extra chapter to unlock after you have defeating the Archfiend, there’s plenty of content to get involved with. Apart from the dreadful walking controls, this is a game that I can recommend to fans of the genre.

A good RPG but one that doesn't shine by itself.

Decent story with a good amount of content. I was in no hurry and just mostly focused on the main story line and a few side quests. I was able to finish it over the course of a weekend. I enjoyed the Suikoden like ability to collect a lot of party members (over 100) and mix and match your teams. Overall I really enjoyed it. I played it on XBox Game Pass for PC and had no issues with it at all. Expand

In terms of content the game has a decent amountThe presentation side of the game screamed retro in all areas and that speaks volumes to me. In terms of content the game has a decent amount for you to get to grips with and this content will no doubt keep you satisfied because it has variety. While the story doesn’t have a ton of depth to it I actually found what was here to be charming and on the greater scale pretty enjoyable. I found the simple aspects when it came to the combat made the combat more fun which in turn made me want to try out the different weapons on offer. In my opinion the RPG elements have been done to perfection and this definitely made me want to explore that little bit more. Some of the characters in the game felt different quite a lot of them unfortunately didn’t bring much to the table. The game doesn’t really bring anything different to the RPG genre and you’ve definitely seen this style many times before but packs a classic punch. Kemco has been a rising star over the recent months and delivered several enjoyable games that were satisfying experiences for me, so as you can imagine, I had quite a bit of interest in their newest release Alvastia Chronicles. Thankfully this game continues Kemco’s improving run and is their best game they’ve brought to the Xbox One so far. At its core then this game is an RPG with a few different mechanics littered throughout the gameplay. Obviously one of the most important mechanics in a game of this level is its combat and I’m pleased to say that they’ve got the combat dead on. Also I consider is the game’s story and while I’ve experienced better stories with more depth the story present in this game is still interesting and solid. Speaking about solidity the presentation side of the game also has punch in abundance due to its retro flavor that’s present in the total design. In terms of problems the game doesn’t have too many at all and the problems it does have, are very minimal. At the end of the day, if you’re a fan of fun and enjoyable RPG’s then Alvastia Chronicles is a must buy because I have no doubt that the varied content will keep you satisfied for many hours and it will also take you on a retro fun filled adventure. Two Thumbs up! Expand
