I’ve played so many platformers over the years and when a new one comes out I’m always chomping at the bit to play it. The new platformer I’m taking about this time around is a game called Alteric and whilst it isn’t one of the best platforming games I’ve ever played it’s also not one of the worst either. The new platformer I’m taking about this time around is a game called Alteric and whilst it isn’t one of the best platforming games I’ve ever played it’s also not one of the worst either. The thing you will notice straight away is how simple the game is, but don’t let that fool you because the game can be quite difficult at times. In fact I would go as far to say that it can be a little too difficult at times so expect to get frustrated a little. Thankfully I didn’t get too frustrated and that was mainly down to the excellent level design. Each level that’s present in the game has had a lot of thought and effort put into them and without a doubt they provided me with quite a few enjoyable moments. I would however have liked to have seen a little more content included because it’s over pretty quickly and the game doesn’t really give you a reason to return, which is a shame. I will say though that the content you do get is very good and there are a few interesting mechanics in play at the same time. Each mechanic gives the game a unique feel and the clever design of some of them keeps things fresh which makes you want to carry on no matter how many times you die. The controls which are obviously very important in a game like this have been implemented extremely well. Everything about the controls feel tight and responsive throughout and I really enjoyed that they kept them very simple because there’s nothing worse than tackling a difficult level with complicated controls. Whilst the controls hold up well the game does unfortunately still suffer with a few issues, and I especially found that to be the case when involved in the boss battles. These issues made the boss battles very frustrating and on the whole I wasn’t really a fan of the bosses because I found them to be a little boring. Thankfully though the presentation side of the game is far from boring and to say I enjoyed this aspect of the game would be a massive understatement because the visuals and sound design complement each other perfectly. At the end of the day the platformer genre is a little bit saturated nowadays and there are better games in the genre to play, but in my opinion Alteric is still a game worth buying. It’s price is very reasonable and for a little game it has a number of mechanics in play at the same time and the best thing is that they get these mechanics spot on most of the time and that for me warrants a thumbs up and a recommendation.… Expand
