I remember seeing the special edition pre-order on Amazon and how great this game looked from the previews. So you can imagine my hype when this hit gamepass.
Then you start playing and realize its one of those point-click "Investigative" visual Novel type games, but hey it's themes is similar to an anime I recently watched called ID: Invaded and that was pretty great so I pushed onwards through the boring gameplay.
I will say the PREMISE of the game and its story it great but its just full of waaaay too much nonsense and plot holes to be enjoyable.
Let's recap some that I experience in my first... 5ish hours. 1st.. Protag Date, pronounced Dante without the n and his AI partner constantly get off on each others misery and have this "New partner" drama thing going on but they've been together for 6 years. Makes NO sense they act like their in day 3 of partnership constantly. Of course the 6years they've been together is after some "accident" in which Date can no longer remember anything from before that time and is now short an eyeball in which his AI companion now occupies its vacant socket.
Then your "boss", again after 6 years you don't know her name because you know why would anybody bother to fill you in on that after you lost your memory, nope lets just keep it a big ol secret for funsies. Upon reaching the first crime scene she's like "oh yeah this could be a copycat of THAT case 6 years ago"... then immediately pulls rank "Oh.. yeah no.. uh that **** classified, so were not gonna talk about it". Obviously has something to do with why Date is short and eyeball.
Then the obvious hook here, the victim is missing an eyeball... same left eyeball as the protag oh and you conveniently find her daughter at the scene who just for whatever reason is in Date's care. It makes zero sense for this kid "Mizuki" to be in Date's care. Yes her parents are divorced but leaving your kid with a detective, not to mention one that doesn't remember being dad's "old drinkin buddy", just makes zero sense, detectives (not to mention ones in super secret gov't departments) work long hours and it shows, you immediately pick up on the fact this 12yr old is left to her own devices, hardly speaks to Date and he admits he doesn't know jack about her. The only reason she is in his care is because the writers needed a vice to make Date Connect to the cases so they forced one in.
Now lets move on... investigation leads you to Ota... a simp for the internet idol A-Set which oh yeah, their both friends with Mizuki yet Date had no clue because that's how little care he takes of her.... great lifechoice there parents. Oh and lets not forget A-Set works for Mizuki's Dad's company, yet Date was somehow oblivious to this fact... like this is all news to him. Some detective. We then learn that ota's using sockpuppet accounts on To-Witter to make himself seem like a bigger simp than he is... wow... ok then so then A-set hugs Date then uses video footage to blackmail him into taking her to the crime scene... and he's just like. Yup in for a pound by the way I'm not just a detective im with super secret organization ABIS... because yes lets reveal super secret **** to an INTERNET IDOL.. but lets back up, what about the receptionist, you should talk to her right.. nope lets just relegate her down to "A pair of massive breasts sitting behind the counter". Just... I can't anymore.
So TLDR PLOT HOLES, PLOT HOLES AND NONSENSE EVERYWHERE.… Expand
