Like Evolution before it, AFL Evolution 2 is the best of the footy games. Of course, the bar isn't a high one, though it's fortunate in a way that it's the core gameplay experience that does the heavy lifting. Modes can be fixed, patched and reworked with less work, so knowing that the foundation is rock-solid is a bonus for Wicked Witch as they'll no doubt return time and again in pursuit of the holy grail.

There’s more fun to be had here than the past couple of games, and it feels like it’s been made with more passion, by AFL fans, for AFL fans who desperately want an AFL game to play.

In spite of all of its flaws, there’s still this immeasurable something about the AFL Evolution 2 experience that continues to pull you in. Perhaps it’s the arcadey experience in a simulation skin, or maybe it’s just the players love of the sport that’s carrying them through, but there is still enjoyment to be found here, you just need to be prepared to overlook the plentiful flaws to get to that point.

AFL Evolution 2 is a Sports Simulator. Based on the AFL (Australian Rules Football) Evolution 2 makes another attempt at portraying the actionAFL Evolution 2 is a Sports Simulator. Based on the AFL (Australian Rules Football) Evolution 2 makes another attempt at portraying the action of this intense sport. Having only watched AFL a handful of times, I don't know any of the lingo, or much about the sport, so bear with me. The first thing that struck me was the last-gen Graphics and almost robotic movement of the players. Everything felt, Heavy. The game is quite fast-paced, and makes it hard to learn on the fly, given the game doesn't really have a tutorial. I can say the intensity is there, but it has just as much to attribute to a few hardships the game holds. Hard-hitting and face-paced makes aiming a nightmare. Couple that with awkward camera angles, and unless you know this Country based sport, it's not an easy learning experience. I assume having a better understanding of how the sport is intended to be played, and the lingo wrapped around it would be a great advantage here. I had fun trying to learn this crazy sport, but I feel my lack of understanding contributes to the frustration i felt at times. The character creator is well made, and you can create a Pro that looks, mostly like yourself or anyone you'd like to create, given the post-age graphics don't interfere with this. Fans of the AFL will likely enjoy this hearted attempt to recreate this wild Australian sport. Expand
