    AER - Memories of Old is a beautiful story told in a beautiful world. Allowing you to access memories is a great way of telling a back story without taking up too much of your time, and allowing you to piece it together yourself helps involve you more in the game. Flying around the land as Auk is simply a delight, and there is something to be discovered at every single turn in the well designed world. Yes, there are minor issues with some elements of flying, and the lagging in the temples really does break you out of the hold the game has on you, but the biggest issue you will have with this game is that you simply want to play more, and that is one of the biggest compliments that you can offer.

    If I was to categorize each and every game made by some metric or another, AER: Memories of Old would land firmly into the folder labeled Hot cup of tea emoji. This game is damned relaxing, and right up there in quality to comparable titles like Journey. It is a brightly colored, beautifully styled, combat free adventure that’s perfect for a Sunday morning gaming day. When your sole purpose is to look around, explore, and try to piece together a story by reading, you can lay back and let the stress of the world go in a way that other more traditionally demanding games just don’t allow for. It’s a simple game with simple demands and is quite simply fun. A breath of fresh AER.

    Admittedly, AER might have been a little more enjoyable if she’d had some clear purpose for flying around her world, or if the sights surrounding her were a little more breathtaking. I mean, they’re certainly not ugly, and there are points where you might even say that AER is stylish. But there’s nothing breathtaking, and if you go in hoping for that, you’ll be letdown. But if you go in looking for a game that won’t push you too hard, that’s perfect for when you just want to shut your brain off and float, then it’s hard to think of anything better. AER’s successes are somewhat modest, but that’s really all that they need to be to make it a game worth considering.

    While most of the time in the dungeons, I was focused on completing the puzzles to push the story forward; in the outside world, I found myself getting lost in the relaxing environment searching out every hidden secret or bit of lore to help better understand the world around me. The main story might only offer but a few hours, but the hidden bits all around are what make the game truly the art that it is. With all there is to explore outside of the main story, lore seekers have a lot in store for what can make for great fan-fiction or ideas.

    The exploration aspect is interesting, but the title never really gives the player anything worth exploring. Wandering from island to island to look at things that aren't important appears to be the core feature of the gameplay here. Actually, trying not to fall asleep at the controller is most likely the true main feature of the gameplay, and this will serve you better as a sedative than it will as an actual game. It seems like it is right up on the cusp of some really good ideas, but it never quite gets there. It feels like it should almost be a great adventure, but, sadly, because of how it fails to execute on its basic premise, it isn't even a good one.

    When I first saw a screenshot I must admit that AER: Memories of Old intrigued me somewhat, and when I first started playing the game itWhen I first saw a screenshot I must admit that AER: Memories of Old intrigued me somewhat, and when I first started playing the game it provided me with a relaxing and somewhat unique experience, but unfortunately as you progress you realise there isn’t much to the game. The world in which the game takes place in is in my opinion the biggest problem with the game. I say this because the world just feels empty and I was hoping for more interaction. The game does however get quite a bit right and my favourite element of the game was definitely the flying aspect. The flying has been done really well and it actually makes the exploring fun and relaxing at the same time, which is great. The puzzles in the game have also been done really well and there is decent mixture of puzzles, which keeps things interesting. It’s a shame though that the story doesn’t keep things interesting. There is nothing memorable in the story and in the end you are just left with a bland tale that does little to excite you. Most of the mechanics in the game hold up pretty well, and I was especially impressed with the controls in the game because they remained fluid and responsive throughout. The camera though wasn’t done as well and the awkwardness of it did frustrate me from time to time. The presentation side of the game is wonderful in my opinion. Visually the game can look really beautiful at times and they really have a relaxing side to them which means you end up becoming immersed in the game. At the end of the day AER: Memories of Old is ultimately an exploring game and it does provide you with some enjoyable moments, but in the end it just feels like it’s missing something. When the game does get a little exciting it’s over before its begun because the game is definitely on the short side, and the worst thing is that it doesn’t really have any replay value. I did however have more enjoyable moments than bad moments with the game, but I would wait for a price drop before fully recommending it to you.… Full Review »

    Here you play as a shape shifter that can turn into a bird out to obtain 3 shard pieces to unlock an ancient temple and defeat the void before it takes what’s left of the shattered world you find yourself in…
    The gameplay here is very simple and the music is very beautiful...
    There is no combat... no hard or frustrating puzzles…
    you simply fly uncovering islands, secrets and knowledge and explore these islands and hidden caves and temples on foot
    flying feels intuitive and smooth, though I did get stuck in a rock while landing, forcing me to back out to the main menu and lose the island uncovering progress made since my last save.. But this only happened once… the game is otherwise pretty bug free... though im convinced one of the trophies are bugged for discovering an ancient battlefield.. unless I discovered the wrong thing
    There are multiple caves hidden on these islands containing spirit animals and tablets to give you more back story…
    but where there’s some traditional gameplay is within this games 3 temples…
    Each are fairly short to complete, the longest taking me about 20 minutes.. And will have you going through powering switches with your torch and aligning different items to progress, nothing too difficult or frustrating… and you can enter any temple at any time when you feel you need a break from exploring... the pacing of this game is up to you. Again really making this a relaxing enjoyable experience to get lost in…
    I wouldn’t necessarily call AER special or a must play game…
    But I appreciate the break from life playing this game gave me

    Well, what can I say... (played this game before on epic) An amazing game with amazing indie visuals, great cutsceneless storyline that willWell, what can I say... (played this game before on epic) An amazing game with amazing indie visuals, great cutsceneless storyline that will keep everyone satisfied, great mechanix, character designs, great soundtrack... i could keep on forever. The only bad thing is its a bit incomplete and the ending is weird, but thats pretty much it! There's not a game i would recommend more and I honestly think that if the game would be 60$ it would be still worth buying.
    I could go about this game forever, but you should see for yourself.
