A Way Out is a game that I’ve been looking forward to since I first seen it at last year’s E3 and I must admit that I had high hopes for it. Thankfully A Way Out has reached my lofty expectations quite easily and in some ways done even better than I expected culminating in an absolutely fantastic adventure. The story will have you hooked from the get go and there are plenty of twists and turns along the way which definitely keep you intrigued throughout your time with the game. Those who like a decent length to a game will definitely find it here and in my opinion it stays with you for the right amount of time and has more than enough content to keep you satisfied. In terms of the gameplay there are many things for you to get to grips with and each different mechanic works flawlessly. Obviously this game is built on teamwork and when you work together it makes things become even more fun and enjoyable and ultimately you get a great sense of reward when completing the various tasks and puzzles. The puzzles that are dotted throughout the game have a good amount of variety to them and each puzzle feels completely different and you can also say that about the gameplay overall. No element ever feels the same and that without a doubt keeps things fresh and interesting at all times, which is very unique in a game of this ilk. Another thing that really impressed me about this game were the controls. The controls are very simple to get the hang of and they never feel awkward which is what I wanted from this style of game. With this being an indie game you wouldn’t expect much from the presentation side of things, but it delivers much more than I expected here. Visually the game looks great and is packed full of charm and when you combine this with the excellent sound design that’s on offer you end up thinking that you’re actually in a real-life movie. At the end of the day A Way Out is pretty much perfection and the amount of time and effort that’s gone into the game really stands out in all areas. The game is that good that my only gripe with it is the small technichal issues it suffers with and these can be overlooked very easily. Without a doubt this game gets a massive recommendation from me and when it’s all said and done it’s probably the best co-op only game I’ve ever played. Expand

Graphics on XBOX X are very good and the little mini games scattered throughout are extremely fun and addicting. You really need to play this with a close friend to get the true experience because the game really is a journey. To be honest, when i saw EA's stamp i was a little skeptical but, i can tell you that this game may have opened up a whole new genre for video games. I highly recommend this one folks. Expand

One of the best splitscreen games you can possibly play, a masterpiece in terms of story that rivals even the best movies in Hollywood. Some cluckyness in the driving and shooting, but that doesnt ruining the experience. Overall a beautiful and engaging experience, that offers one the best in this generation 9/10.

Keeping in mind this game is made by a small studio Hazelight, it's lived up to expectation. One of the best co-op games, truly fun and gameplay is far from repetitive. The story is great and takes unexpected twists. The small little mini games within the game keep things fun and competitive between the two players. It does well to blend the lighter and serious sides, great game.

Seriously one of my favorite games to come out in recent times. It's truly unique and I can't really name any games that come close to it. It shares some elements to other products like Telltale games and Life is Strange, but it completely takes its own liberties and makes something new. The split-screen feature adds so much. It's not just some feature they threw in, they built this game around it. Being able to see two different perspectives of one world really does change the way the game is played and experienced. Also, Vincent and Leo are very likable and even relatable characters. The story buildup is crazy, and leads up to one of the best endings I've ever seen in a video game.

The game isn't perfect. There is quite a bit of jank in there, clearly from low budgets and it being from a small studio. But a lot of it adds to the charm, and doesn't hinder the experience. When you play this game you need to suspend your disbelief, and really engage yourself in this journey. If you can't do that, then it's not the game for you. Also make sure your co-op partner is the same way. This game is meant to be played and enjoyed by two friends. DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME SINGLEPLAYER! The charm comes from experiencing it with a friend. So PLEASE take advantage of the Friend Pass and experience it the right way!

I honestly can't believe that I didn't even pay for this game. I used the Friend Pass version to play with a friend who bought it. The fact that you can even do that is unheard of in today's video game environment, and I hope it inspires other companies to do similar things. It's so generous, and on top of that the game is only 30 dollars for what I would consider one of the best video game stories ever told. I'm going to go out and buy myself a personal copy of this game to put on my bookshelf, because the dev team behind this game truly put their hearts into it and they deserve success. I just hope this game gets the success that it deserves.

Thank you for this great experience that I am still thinking about days after beating it.

This game's story was also excellent. There are many reviews that were saying it wasn't, but I can utterly assure you that they did not complete the game. The story and the character development is top-notch, especially when compared to other modern games.

Also, due to Origin allowing a friend to play for free, I was able to play this game for far cheaper than I thought I would. That was a very satisfying feeling, and to whomever is responsible, I would like to say thank you.

I wouldn't say that this game is a masterpiece, but this game is genuinely a good game. 9/10

The only thing bad about this game is the voice acting sometimes but i don't care because the story is so good. The ending is also amazing and is just a huge surprise. What makes this game even better is the fact that only one friend needs to buy the game in order to play online and that is just amazing because they could of made more money buy not doing the friend share mechanic and i give them props for that. I really do hope DLC comes out soon because i would love to know more about the story instead of the cut-scenes. for example the trade with Harvey and Leo i would love DLC getting the black orlov then it ends at selling it. So i do hope DLC comes out in the future. Expand

As a matter of fact, everyone was a terrible character. Not a single likeable person. All the dialogue and one liners are devoid of any personality or originality, voice acting was terrible and as bad as laugable. Only played through the game because I could play it with my girlfriend. The only two good things were the co-op support and the twist at the end. Good twist. Still terrible story. Everyone invovled in making this game should be ashamed, because they could've done a much, much better job, and it's unfortunate that they took a good idea and reduced it down to this drivel.

There's a real sense of cooperation, very light planning and competition. Some moments got me sleepy, but others were just plain entertaining. Like the very good plot twist in the final chapter that surprised me and sort of changed the story perspective of the game. Or the well-directed hospital chapter.
Actually, the worst parts of the game are set during the prison. When it "opens up", it's nice.

I ended up playing couch co op and found this to be the best option if its possible.
if not, you can invinte any friend to play with you from start to finish even if they don’t have to game
The forced co op is a bit of a draw back though, its hard to find someone willing to tolerate you and your hilarious jokes for a full 5 an a half hours that it takes to finish this game.
I played the arrogant, cocky and short tempered leo and my partner played as the calm and in control Vincent.
this game is basically the grown up version of the rugrats,
you get your trusty screwdriver and as a team you have to find a way out of prison to go after a mutual enemy.
this is a lot of one person distracting and finding a way to take guard attention from an area, while the other player inches closer to the target, coming up with clever ways to sneak tools back to your cell and look out for eachother while getting it done..
This game doesn’t fully take place in prison though, youll find yourself on a farm as well as getting to know these characters and their families..
making you care how the story plays out for each..
there are moments of driving and third person shooting..
the gameplay is constantly pulling the narrative forward..
you never feel stuck or stagnant..
    constantly going..
the 5 and a half hours flies by…
And throughout the story there will be choices to make that are either more passive or more aggressive..
choices that need to be agreed on by both players before you can move on..
its tough to go into detail without spoiling, but I loved the journey this game took me on.. I loved the story and all of its twists..
I loved not knowing where the game was going to take me next…
this game shines during the moments where communication is necessary, where you have to use timing, hwere you have to watch for and distract guards while your partner gets to work…
there really is no negative here other than again, this game has to be played with another person…
you cant switch back and forth between controllers, there are moments here where that just wont work.
This is a great game to sit down and spend some time with someone with

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There were good parts to this game, but there were also not-so-good parts as well. In concept, the game sounded great considering full couch co-op games are hard to come by nowadays. Hazelight tried something new, and I can't hate them or fault them for that. But the execution was kind of sloppy at times. I played through this with my husband who was even more disillusioned with the game than I was, and it was like pulling teeth sometimes to get him to finish playing the game with me. And although it was a fun, unique experience at times, overall it was... just a game. Not one that I care to slog through again.

The voice acting was kind of tilted at times, and didn't come off as natural. I know that a lot of this had to do with both the voice actors and the writers not being native English speakers, but it really did take you out of what was supposed to be an immersive game, especially one that was largely based off of iconic American cop dramas of the 70's. And the way they did optional conversations and how you had to be careful where and when you activated them lest you miss out on something, was really kind of sloppy.

The environments were interesting, but overall nothing special. And especially the gameplay parts through some of the areas, like the woods after breaking out of the prison, were kind of boring. I can't think back to one part of the game where I'm like, "I really need to play through that part again." Also, while the little mini games you could play throughout the game were neat, there was nothing about the game that really compelled me to play them. You could play them, or you could not, they didn't really bring anything to the story and I felt like they were just there to inflate your gameplay time. The only part that I thought was somewhat creative was the part in the hospital, when you suddenly go to a side view and you feel like you're playing Bad Dudes. But it's not like that hasn't been done before as well.

The gunplay (once you got to it) was... nothing special to talk about. If anything, it was a little bit wonky with aiming and such. And don't get me started on the driving/motorcycle parts. The motorcycle chase, while impressive in a couple of areas, was also extremely frustrating to get through.

The story was... basically just a giant cliche. I see what Hazelight and Josef Fares was trying to do with their throwbacks to iconic movies such as Scarface and The Shawshank Redemption, but in doing that, all it succeeded in doing was making the game feel like there wasn't much in it that was creatively theirs. And the plot twist was just... not good. If you're to have believed that you built up this trusting friendship between the main characters, it totally got destroyed by the twist. Not to mention that it made most of what happened in the game completely unbelievable at that point, with how many police officers you end up killing/subduing throughout the span of the game. I can think of so many other, believable ways to make that particular plot point work out better, but all it did was cheapen the experience. At that point, I had built up some fondness for the characters, but after the twist, I didn't really care about them anymore. It was all for naught. And sure, I did get a little misty-eyed at the end, but it was more from anger and frustration rather than legitimate sadness. Bad writing makes me angry, and that was just bad writing.

I had been looking forward to this game since I heard about it at E3 last year. Am I glad I played it? Yes. But is it what I expected? No. Will I play it again? Not likely.
