Fun game, lots of dialog, voice acting is hit or miss at times. When did QTEs become good again??? Ryse was submarined for far far less QTEs. Solid co-op titles with humor and fun here and there...cookie cutter story and predictable dialog....simple problem solving...Game is a solid 7 ...good game worth playing. Expand

A good Tale Tale type game with co-op mechanics no seen before. Very good to play once with a friend. only one person needs to buy. Its not really a "game" but its more of a game than sea of thieves is. recommended to play its a good experience.

A Way Out was surprisingly fun!

It's a game filled with bugs, bad dialogue, ridiculous action-movie-sequences, cliche characters and clunky gameplay, but somehow... It kinda works? I think Way Out's trump card is the co-op. I think Way Out's trump card is the co-op. Playing this game alone would ultimately feel like a waste of time, but when you're playing with s friend, you get the most out of this weird experience. It's a mini-game bonanza!

There's a real sense of cooperation, very light planning and competition. Some moments got me sleepy, but others were just plain entertaining. Like the very good plot twist in the final chapter that surprised me and sort of changed the story perspective of the game. Or the well-directed hospital chapter.
Actually, the worst parts of the game are set during the prison. When it "opens up", it's nice.

I recommend this game if you're doing it by couch co-op. You're going to have a blast.
If you play it any other way, don't even bother.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There were good parts to this game, but there were also not-so-good parts as well. In concept, the game sounded great considering full couch co-op games are hard to come by nowadays. Hazelight tried something new, and I can't hate them or fault them for that. But the execution was kind of sloppy at times. I played through this with my husband who was even more disillusioned with the game than I was, and it was like pulling teeth sometimes to get him to finish playing the game with me. And although it was a fun, unique experience at times, overall it was... just a game. Not one that I care to slog through again.

The voice acting was kind of tilted at times, and didn't come off as natural. I know that a lot of this had to do with both the voice actors and the writers not being native English speakers, but it really did take you out of what was supposed to be an immersive game, especially one that was largely based off of iconic American cop dramas of the 70's. And the way they did optional conversations and how you had to be careful where and when you activated them lest you miss out on something, was really kind of sloppy.

The environments were interesting, but overall nothing special. And especially the gameplay parts through some of the areas, like the woods after breaking out of the prison, were kind of boring. I can't think back to one part of the game where I'm like, "I really need to play through that part again." Also, while the little mini games you could play throughout the game were neat, there was nothing about the game that really compelled me to play them. You could play them, or you could not, they didn't really bring anything to the story and I felt like they were just there to inflate your gameplay time. The only part that I thought was somewhat creative was the part in the hospital, when you suddenly go to a side view and you feel like you're playing Bad Dudes. But it's not like that hasn't been done before as well.

The gunplay (once you got to it) was... nothing special to talk about. If anything, it was a little bit wonky with aiming and such. And don't get me started on the driving/motorcycle parts. The motorcycle chase, while impressive in a couple of areas, was also extremely frustrating to get through.

The story was... basically just a giant cliche. I see what Hazelight and Josef Fares was trying to do with their throwbacks to iconic movies such as Scarface and The Shawshank Redemption, but in doing that, all it succeeded in doing was making the game feel like there wasn't much in it that was creatively theirs. And the plot twist was just... not good. If you're to have believed that you built up this trusting friendship between the main characters, it totally got destroyed by the twist. Not to mention that it made most of what happened in the game completely unbelievable at that point, with how many police officers you end up killing/subduing throughout the span of the game. I can think of so many other, believable ways to make that particular plot point work out better, but all it did was cheapen the experience. At that point, I had built up some fondness for the characters, but after the twist, I didn't really care about them anymore. It was all for naught. And sure, I did get a little misty-eyed at the end, but it was more from anger and frustration rather than legitimate sadness. Bad writing makes me angry, and that was just bad writing.

I had been looking forward to this game since I heard about it at E3 last year. Am I glad I played it? Yes. But is it what I expected? No. Will I play it again? Not likely.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a story driven game where the user is given options for the characters to get through their journey. The main problem with this is that none of these options affect the outcome of the game. Granted the options do lead to different gameplay segments. The shooting system in the game is decent. There are a handful of models that seem like pretty basic things that should have better physics (for example a bullet proof vest seen in a cut scene is completely rigid and stuck looking like some invisible person is wearing it). The story is pretty predictable and is evident that it is inspired by movies like Shaw Shank and Scar Face. It’s not inherently bad for a plot line to be inspired by other forms of media, but at times it feels like it just took things directly out of a movie and then called its own property. There is little to no replay ability. For $30 that’s a huge issue. The backgrounds are very well made and the animation is good for the most part.

Overall this game is over hyped and you would be far better off just watching a let’s play than actually playing it yourself.

A Way Out's goal was to set out to revolutionize the co-op experience. Sadly, I think they came up short in that regard. The beginning was a very, slow grumbling start to a mediocre experience. This is a good game but the mechanics which are mainly borrowed from the studio's previous title are getting old. Graphics are nice, the game is smooth, the story is cool, it is a fun coop game, I just think there were more potential things to do on the gameplay side of the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Played in multiplayer local thanks to Xbox game pass. We really enjoyed the game, it was not hard but still challenging. A bit disappointing the ending. Yes, cool the plot twist, but still, we thought something else. We were both surprised it’s a EA game, since we incurred to just a couple of bugs or difficulties, while many other EA games were much worse. Still fun to play and recommend. Something to try if you have a flat mate or someone that lives with you, since it’s taking 6/7 hours to complete. Expand

Thanks to its purely co-op gameplay, A Way Out is a beautiful experience, which heavily involves both players throughout the adventure.
