An absolutely beautiful masterpiece! An enthralling story, with some fun straightforward gameplay. Some light puzzle solving. Amazing graphics! Nothing really to complain about except I wish there was more! One thing I'll say is I enjoyed the more story oriented parts than when the game gets more challenging with it's gameplay mechanics.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Beautiful Game about a Journey of different Characters especially the main protagonists Amicia and Hugo.

The visuals, atmosphere and backgrounds of this game are sad but stunning to look at. The music is just brilliant and for me the best part of this Game.

Gameplaywise it has his flaws especially at the beginning when the stealth mechanics are mostly the same and you dont have any different ways to do the path. At the point when you control the rats you become really powerful but its very late at the game, maybe because the controling of the rats and Amicia is challenging.

The Story is well written but lacks of a interesting enemy. The Inquisitor is boring.

Give the Game a Try its worth it and I only needed 11 hours to complete it.

For this review I want to make it into two sections.
    The gameplay and the story.

For this review I want to make it into two sections.
    The gameplay and the story.

But first, what is the game about?
The game takes places during 1348, Science isn´t that far advanced and religion is one of the biggest parts when it comes to a sickness.
Like the title says it is about the Plague which is portraied by hundreds and hundreds of rats that run around the streets and infest people or even eat them completly.
Amicia and her brother Hugo have to flee from the inqusition after their family was slaugthered by the inqusition.
All because Hugos sickness is to believed to have something to do with the Plague.
The game is mostly about the relationship between the two characters, which gets closer over the time and find an answer to Hugos sickness.
To not spoil anything thats where I stop the small story recap.

Let´s begin with the not that good part, but still enjoyable: The Gameplay

You play as Amicia. A teenage girl with a sling shot as a weapon. She was trained by her father and perfected the slingshot.
And that is also most part of the gameplay, combined with lots of stealth and small "puzzles".
With you slingshot, you can kill or distract enemys or interact with the surroundings.
Most of the time you do exactly that, distract one enemy, then kill the other, progress and do it again.
Sometimes the Plague / the rats can be a challenge.
They are afraid of light so you have to do some small puzzles with torches or other light sources to make a way trough the rats.
Sometimes the game combines the rats and the enemys, so you can use your skills with the slingshot to either kill the enemys and make a way trough the rats, or use the enemys as a bait for the rats.
The gameplay itself as you can guess is pretty simple and the upgrading system (collect materials to get a bigger bag for more materials or ammunition) isn´t that much of a selling point.
But it is fun and the difficulty isn´t that high either so you can enjoy the story, which is the best part of the game.

With the story and atmosphere during the gameplay the developer archieves what was his goal in my opinion: you can completly focus on the characters nd don´t get distracted by a difficult puzzle or hard enemys.
because the characters are and interactions with eachother and the world are the core of this game.
As mentioned above Amicia is accompanied by her brother hugo, who is very young, I guess around 6.
At the beginning of the game they are very astrenged, but get closer to eachother, the more they witness.
Also interacting with the world is different, while Hugo isn´t that much aware of what´s going on Amicia is sometimes broken, when she has to kill, sees corpes and stuff like that.

The game has some very emotional scenes and you learn to like the characters.

So if you are in search for an easy game with a fantastic story, get this game.
Of course there are some AI glitches and you can very easily escape the enemys but if you are not bothered by that you can have a fanatstic and emotinal story with some nice twists, shocking moments and great scenes.

I can´t give it a 10/10 because the gameplay tries to much but is way to simplified and not innovative.

It borrows heavily from the God of War dynamic where you send your smaller brother through to areas to open up for you as Kratos did with Atreus sometimes you get to kill guys with your slingshot but mostly your crouching in tall grass walking slowly or holding a burning twig walking slowly. The writing, voice-acting, graphics and music are some of the best ever, period.
    The sound effects are amazing.
    The diverse environments are amazing.
    The character interactions are superb.

As well, for those like me, this game does NOT rely on an idiot hud and has customization.

No, the story does not get convoluted or weird or become a mess at the end. All one has to do is be able to grasp one simple concept: its a video GAME that we PLAY and it has...an ending.

However, the writers have told their original fantastical tale superbly, step by step in a truly meaningful and unique way and, yet, still provided great GAMEPLAY that combines perfectly with the story.

    No, this isnt dishonored, thankfully.
    No, this isnt open-world, thankfully.
    Yes, this is linear, thankfully.
No, it is NOT a 10-15 hour game: as usual, those numbers are for those who rush through games in their myriad of ways.

25-30 on your first playthrough easily if you are a thorough gamer, like myself and love to soak up the atmosphere and experience ALL the game has to offer. Obviously, searching the ENTIRE map is a given.

As usual, do yourself a favor and do not CHEAT or cheapen the experience by using outside sources for knowledge to make your way through the game. You only have one time to play it once.

For example, not referring to collectibles, there are story tidbits you will miss unless you find them.

A second playthrough and the achievements absolutely add replay value. (a third if you want to go all stealth or add restrictions)

The gameplay: a girl with a sling and alchemy who must sneak and fight her way throughout. Simple, yet, diverse enough to satisfy.

As well, this offers gameplay replayability for those so inclined, such as, myself through self-imposed restrictions. (other games receive this accolade but for dimwitted reasoning many do not give this game the same credit)

No, its not a walking simulator.
Yes, the puzzles arent the hardest and most complex in existence, but, not only do they not need to be, but, when compared to other games they stand up just fine.

No, this game is absolutely NOT a walking cut-scene. That is distortion and lies put forth by those who simply dont enjoy these types of games or foolishly compare this game to games of different genres.

Thus, proving they dont understand a thing about how to review a game.

Anybody who puts this below a 9/10 is not objectively reviewing the game and placing an undue burden on this game while accepting those same issues in other games.

For example, to say this game is “linear” and then downgrade it for that purposeful development choice is the epitome of foolish.

To complain that this game is “short” and has “no multi-player” is the epitome of foolish and blatant hypocrisy.

For me, some of my minor annoyances were: a few foolishly placed auto-saves and a controller scheme that takes a short period of time getting used to. (btw, they are NOT “clunky”)

As well, i was disappointed the in-game characters would yap and give spoiler information for situations and puzzles: an obviously poor decision by the devs.

The same goes for the amazingly annoying decision to block off backtracking through environment blocks and/or autosaves: in this age of technology and with many collectibles its unacceptable. I went into this game as a 4 decade gamer who likes single-player only games, rpgs and thought i was about to walk my way through a simulator. I went into it thinking of a sensua type experience. Thankfully, it was a whole lot more and i came out as a man who had an amazing gaming experience and quickly began another playthrough to again experience the story of Amicia and her amazing knights. Wow! What a masterpiece!

Immediately this game reminded me of shadwen,
This almost felt like a more polished AAA budget successor
The game takes place during the plague, there are rats everywhere and guards for some reason that’s up to you to find out trying to capature your little brother
This is a 12hours tale full of emotion and great story telling
Im so happy to see games wit ha narrative focus still thriving in a gaming world all about online and loot boxes
The narrative here pulls you along and is the highlight of this game for me..
I always love it that no matter how frustrated or over a section of a game I get that there a good story that’s pulling me forward to see whats next..
Thankfully a plague tale isn’t full of frustrating moments
This game isn’t challenging one bit, however it still manages to be engaging,
Its no walk through the park, you have to distract guards and use fire to get your way through the sea of rats
You aren’t completely defensless though, you’ve got a sling
You can gather materials throughout the world to craft different items for this sling, you have a rock that can be used to distract guards or head shot them and as the game progress youll unlock new abilities such as setting fire to burnable object to scare the rats just to name a few…
This adds a styx or even a dishonored layer of theres more than one solution to moving onto the next section of the game
and chckpoints here are great, so youll rarely have to redo large sections of the game if you fail..
And thankfull A plague tale does a great job of keeping the environment fresh as well as the gameplay, however this is where my biggest issue with the game comes into play,
A plague world goes for a tense feel rather than a fun kids creating mischief feel which is fine…
This means that you cant just run through the game crafting whatever whenever…
you need materials to upgrade your arsnel and certain materials are scarce
These items are more for I have no other option…
but this also means that 12 hours of stealth can get taxing…
A plague tale doesn’t suffer from pacing problems, in fact it does a great job most of the time at giving you a break from the action to just enjoy story pieces and sets.. but I would’ve liked more of this… more slow walk, talk, enjoy the plague moments…
All in all A plague Tale Innocence is a unique experience set in an intriguing world with a well written and directed story guaranteed to keep you hooked
I give A Plague Tale: Onnocence
    a 7/10

The story, for about the first half of the game, is very intriguing and has a great sense of mystery, but it takes a turn for the ridiculous at around the 4th quarter.

My biggest complaint is the sudden difficulty spike during the final chapters. The difficulty was almost perfectly balanced leading up to this, then suddenly devolves into cheap trial and error.

For a budget game, it's definitely better than you'd expect, but it's not something I'd encourage anyone to rush home and download. If anything, I'd say wait for a price drop. It's worth your money, but not $50 of it.

They are cast out alone into the medieval French countryside to fend for themselves. Their home attacked by the Inquisition, who are searching for Hugo. This introduces the intrigue and danger into A Plague Tale: Innocence, a third-person adventure which combines puzzles, stealth, combat, and well a plague of rats. For most of the game you’re making all these considerations with your little brother Hugo in mind. Their relationship goes from circumspect to genuine affection, and it’s one of the most intricate depictions of a sibling relationships introduced into a video game. A Plague Tale is indeed a good game. After a couple of scenes you’ll notice some reuse of the rat plague effects, but those aren’t game breaking concerns. For mr it was the three boss fights that seem to interrupt the eve and flow of a game that otherwise takes a completely different approach in story telling, and for me they felt only out of place in the game’s overall storytelling. I can’t explain without spoiling the game’s story, but I do wish that A Plague Tale: Innocence had found other methods of communicating some moments in the game. The graphics are beautiful, the voice acting and relationship between a brother and sister blossom, and in the end A Plague Tale: Innocence provides you with a unique experience that lasts somewhere in the 12 to 15 hour range depending on your skill and problem solving ability to complete your unique adventure. The game is beautiful and amazing it is a story driven adventure which is thrillinh and fun! I feel like this is super great and the studio deserves a lot of support this is a very good game they've made!! It fell a little bit short in story as for me, I felt like it could've improved in certain way but a great game and worth playing nonetheless!

The story isn’t terrible, to be fair, but as I said, it’s built around a girl escorting her mostly useless little brother through peril after peril. Even after he gains a few more abilities later in the game, it still doesn’t make for the most compelling gameplay. On a similar note, you’ll really need to enjoy skulking in the shadows and running for your life if you want to get the most out of the game — which, to be completely honest, I just don’t.

Asobo Studios needs to be applauded for creating something so stunning and fantastic in every way. It’s not easy to make you care about characters in a short dozen or so hours, and the fact that A Plague Tale will be etched into my memory is no small feat. I don’t like to loosely throw around the term “Masterpiece”, but this is absolutely one of my favorite games that I enjoyed whole heartedly in recent memory. Needless to say, this is one plague you won’t want to avoid.

A Plague Tale: Innocence wasn’t even on my radar and I’m ashamed because I would have missed out on this great game and now that I’ve told you, don’t make the same mistake I almost made.
