I got killed by a bear my first playthrough and honestly I felt like I had no chance of survival.I can see lots of potential here and I like the creative aspects. I can't say the game is perfect because it is not but with a little patience and fair minded gameplay it is worth a look. If your looking for a scary minecraft or a five star horror blockbuster than you'll hate it. It is essentially a work in progress at this point. Expand

I couldn't defend myself on the highest game play level against zombies because of the ridiculous combat mechanic coupled with the game freezing momentarily each time I desperately needed a head shot -or -walking off a platform in my base straight into the horde below because the frame rate drops to 0 as I'm moving forward to line up a shot. Why even put the effort into digging trenches and building massive spike walls when most of the frantic zombies just glitch spin right over your defenses during horde attacks? Now the creative part which is more fun is filled with glitches that probably won't be fixed for a long time and is not as easy to play as you think. If you were attacked and killed while building in creative(which happens alot), you often spawn 10 minutes away from where you were, which is very frustrating to play.
The graphics are a bust if you care about it.

The game has a short learning curve and after a little time you become quite efficient at crafting and surviving. In single player mode the game is relatively stable and generally allows for many hours of continuous play before freezing or glitching out. However in multi-player we have noted a game session will only last about 1.5 hours before crashing. Each game crash proves to be a gamble on whether your crafted world will load properly again....as corrupted saves are all too common and the game likes to reset causing players to lose objects from storage boxes all the way up to complex built structures. Many a player has gone for a jaunt on the mini bike, experiences a game crash, and reloaded with no mini bike in site and many miles of walking back to their home base.

If the developers can patch the crashing and improve the game stability I can see playing and enjoying the game. right now its a gamble and many players are getting frustrated and walking away.

Let me start by saying I love a lot about this game. Once you establish your first base and start getting your skills built up, it becomes exciting. The crafting, hunting, mining elements are enjoyable and the large wandering hordes and screamers make a session interesting. That is, until the inevitable first MD5 crash happens and you lose everything (or close to it).

The game has a lot of promise, but it is easy to lose the desire to play it when you are dealing with issues like multiple game crashes per session, slow rendering maps, in-game lag that messes up combat or causes your bike to park itself in a rock/tree even though you parked it in an open area near that item. Glitches that move your bike and stick it inside concrete blocks, so you have to cut it out, loss of most of your stuff if you use a POI as a base and a MD5 crash happens.... all of these just ruin the game.

In the past 2 weeks, I have had 2 worlds get corrupted from multiple MD5 crashes. In a 10 hour streaming session this past Saturday, the game kicked me and my buddies no less than 15 times. It made for a very frustrating experience and has me considering moving on to another game until they release some fixes.

Holy **** the glitches and bugs that exist in this game make it impossible to play. Oh man, the lag... Every 45 seconds it lags...

I get it's meant to be a survival horror game, but it's not enjoyable when you reach a point where you burn through your food and water faster than you do in real life. It's not fun when the game spawns zombies right behind you and they relentlessly chase you even when you're far out of their range. It's not fun when you're hiding in the attic of your refuge and they somehow know where you are and go after you. It's not fun when objects are so scarce that all you do is focus on those objects and can't do anything else.

This game is literally a broken game, and doesn't deserve to be called a full game. This game has existed for almost three years and the developers still didn't make it a working game at all. It's not worth $30 like what we paid. We will be returning this crap game tomorrow back to the store. It's quite literally the worst game I have ever played.

Feels like 7 years to die
7 Days to die is a Minecraft style survival horror game,
as you use tools, craft items and slay zombies your skills and character levels up making your survival chances in this survival horror game even that much greater...
But unfortunately 7 Days to die puts more emphasis on survival than it does the horror, or the game…
This game moves at the pace of a slug…
What makes Minecraft so great is that while it is also a survival game about crafting and surviving from random attacks... it moves at a fairly quick pace…
You can build a shovel and dig a temporary shelter with sufficient lighting before the sun falls on your initial spawn…
Minecraft also makes essentials like a forge or torches very accessible from the jump….
7 Days to die goes against all of this…
For starters... This is no Minecraft other than the basic idea of gather materials, craft with those materials, and try not to die while you do this...
But building, crafting, combat, and scavenging all suffer due to the pacing this game has…
You collect items and build at a crawl…
you can definitely make a shovel, and axe fairly quickly as there are basic crafting materials like rocks and trees everywhere…
but once you go to dig a shelter you’ll quickly realize building in this world is going to be a chore..
You can’t swiftly build an underground shelter to revisit after a day of hunting and looking for supplies to slowly build a thriving chunk of land…
It’s going to take days upon days... youre better off finding a cabin around essential recourses and rebuilding…
Which honestly takes away the joy of owning the procedurally generated or hand crafted land you spawn into…
There’s no fun in upgrading something already built…
but thanks to how long it takes to destroy a block of dirt even with the hardness level turned down... you have no other choice….
You can of course make a building out of wood, as wood collecting is fairly easy… but with how often your tools will break, wood is a valuable recourse that you might as well collect to again just rebuild an already built home…
the hunger and thirst system in this game also hinders creativity as you never feel like you have time to really do anything other than find drinks and food…
During my time playing I found a corn field behind a cabin for food…
But I had no water source….
To make drinks I needed glass jars that I for the life of me couldn’t find…
luckily these glass jars can be crafted!
But to do that I needed to craft a forge...
    A basic essential…
But the crafting materials for this forge isn’t so basic…
I needed to go hunt animals…
While my character is dying of thirst… life slowly draining...
I had to hunt animals that are practically nonexistent in this world…
    There are deer...rabbits...bears...dogs...
    But good luck finding them...
Which again brings me back to Minecraft...
Animals are needed for armor in that game so they are reasonably findable…
They aren’t crawling all over the place, but if you actively look you will find some…
    That isn’t the case here…
A material you need for an essential basic to craft an item needed to create glass so your character doesn’t die of thirst is made unreasonably inaccessible…
I was in game for 6 real hours… and still didn’t have the materials for a forge…
My tools and character were just as basic as a fresh spawn…
I felt no sense of progression at all which in turn leaves me feeling frustrated.. Like I’m getting nowhere in this game…
I eventually started thinking what the point...is
    I can’t reasonably craft... I can’t build tunnel systems for materials…
I have no source of water….
what am I supposed to do other than not die…
There is such a deep crafting system here….
the idea of the scavenging hunt is a joy... you can create stronger materials to reinforce your shelter from zombie attacks, even craft guns and bullets...
Find schematics scattered throughout the world... find quests that will lead to treasures... but again the inaccessible survival basics with make all of this seem unobtainable…
As if you just can’t find animals for their hides... you’re going to be stick with the basics forever... that’s just how it is….
one missing puzzle piece will stop you from finishing… and once you do find them or any other materials you still have to deal with the over powered zombies… Zombies in this game are quick damage sponges that can somehow climb… You’ll be hitting them over the head with a club for what seems like forever while they just claw and scratch you dealing with more than one without a gun is near impossible… And you can’t just run as for some reason the developers thought it would be a great idea to allow them to stun you, so you can’t moves for like 3 seconds… just taking the damage… and once again you don’t just find guns in this game.. I definitely recommend playing this game with 3 other friends but seeing as if you log off your server goes down with you this makes it hard to have a persistent world that your friends will want to keep coming back to with you if your schedules are a bit different. I recommend having you and your friends making multiple private games that way no matter who is on you have a game to join. Traversal is a bit slow going and the world is pretty big but that will make exploring the whole world an interesting and long endeavor. By far the deepest, most detailed, most addicting and challenging zombie game I've ever played! It's pretty much a realistic, better graphic Minecraft on super-roids with way more possibilities. There are so many ways of going about this game and so many decisions to make that no game is ever the same.
Do you go for food right away, look for weapons, meds, find a town or city, build a makeshift base right then and there, loot cars to get a motorcycle early, find a cave to mine? For defense do you remodel that beautiful fancy house, a police station, a high rise apt building, grocery store or whatever building? Or build on some roof? Or do you just build your own fort? Or both? And where? In a town or city, out in the woods, on a hill, in a cliff, middle of a lake, underground, under water? Or do you just go nomad?
Because whatever you chose to do first, in 7 days the blood moon comes, then a horde (who hears you and smells you) zeros in on you and puts you and whatever you've constructed to the test. Then every 7 days after they hit you again a little harder until either your base is built to a point to where it's uncrackable, or you're ran out of your demolished base and/or killed so much you can't recover. And do you build a giant moat, a spike heavy base, a many storied base, a base with a lot of fallback shooting positions? Do you like to look and live luxurious by adding beautiful carpet, furniture, flat screen TVs and stuff looted from nice places and using redwood and such, or do you like the gritty wood, concrete, dirt and metal look?
And then there's multiplayer... Now other zombie games people get bored with the zombies and start looting and killing each other. Not this one. The zombies at night and on the 7th days are so terrifying that you want to work together. Trade is fun because of the endless things to trade with. Everyone has something of value to someone. Yes someone will trade your 1000s of clumps of dirt and goldenrod flowers for his flawless sniper rifle. Or just go be someone's slave for a bit! Or get powerful and hire your own! If you get stuck outside after dark people will let you stay the night. And some people make the most awesome bases no doubt.
Now does this game have glitches? Yes. Zombies can clip and do funny things sometimes, and zombie reach is a little far, but these things are so few and miniscule compared to the revolutionary gameplay this game has to offer! Those snobby critic reviews completely miss the big picture. It's about gameplay. I like a game that doesn't hold my hand, doesn't have invisible walls forcing me down a path, and gives me complete freedom to go where I want and do what I want, and have literally everything in the game at my disposal! If a zombies head clips thru my reinforced steel door I won't whine about how the game isn't "polished" enough, I will simply say "hello sir" and blow his head off with my shotgun and collect his bones to make glue.
There is so much more I haven't mentioned from the different biomes, city types, buildings, items to craft, the elaborate skill, perk, level system to the design of your character and clothes you find and choose to wear... but no doubt this game has tons to offer and almost endless replayability. If you like using your brains and creativity to test yourself in a zombie apocalypse then this game is absolutely perfect for you. It's a game ahead of it's time and so addictive and I can't wait to see what they do with this kind of game in the future.

Where i have to start disagreeing, with every complaint from start to finish, is that anyone who's actually paid attention....knows this game is still in "Alpha" stage which means it's an early-release game and you can't judge this game with games that are released in a "finished" stage.

Also, this game is about content and not graphics and, anyone who has played Minecraft, will understand that sometimes content makes the game completely worthwhile.

The reason i disagree with a lot of "low" reviews is that everyone i knew (and i mean EVERYONE) who has been playing these zombie survival games constantly whine about the game (they are currently playing) never having enough creation factor.

This game has it by the TONS.

You start in your underwear, either in a desert, forest, or snow climate and you're given time to craft clothes and find better clothes before it really starts to get to you. You can create everything from medicine to weapons to a mini bike you can roam around in.

And the reality in this game is so well thought out. You can die from hunger, thirst, overheating, freezing, bleeding out, and so many other way.

I've heard people, who claimed to have played this game say "It's too hard for beginners". It's not, you're just a terrible player or you don't get that this game is not "Call of Duty". You have to treat it with a bit of trepidation and you have to watch the rhythms of the zombies so you can time the hits. Even a level 1 player can be a real "killer" if they just pay attention to how it plays.

Plus, this game has "conditions" you can set, before you start so you can make the game easier or harder. I mean, how awesome is that? And it's not just "easy, hard, insane", it's DETAILED stuff you can set to make it a better game experience.

I've heard all the complaints about the mini bike...all falsehoods. %85 of those people are trying to mow-down zombies with the min-bikes and guess what....hitting stuff makes the mini bike break (duh!).

Yes, it's got bugs....it's an Alpha release..it's "supposed" to have bugs. No the graphics are not top-end, but the game content more than makes up for it.

Being an early player on this game is totally worth it because the price on this game, once is gets REALLY solid, might be double what you pay now.

I've been gaming since 1981, seen a lot of good and bad games. I've wrote few reviews because i tend to be overly honest about the good and bad points. However, when you research a game before you play it, know what to expect, then write a bad review about things (or leave certain information out) that are somewhat supposed to be not ready yet...that makes for the worst kind of reviewer (hint, hint Metacritic "in-house" review person).

This game has the potential to be insanely cool by the time it hits the final release stage....if you go to the website and read, there is SOOOOO much coming for this game. If the author decided to give this game a "Fallout 4" mod capability....even the SKY won't be the limit.

    Enjoy!

Good game, I liked the plot that every 7 days a horde is hunting you. It has its flaws but I think nothing serious, as we know this in its alpha version. I would really like to update it to version 14, 15 or 16 that is currently, this would give more rating to the game. Espro with anxieties that they can pertain the update for XBOX ONE. Thank you very much for your support

I want to get something out of the way first. The game looks awful, seriously awful. However, if you can get past the real bad graphics there is an absolute gem of a game to be had. It's a deep, rewarding survival game that just takes a little getting used to.

I bought it in December 2016 in a bundle in the Christmas sale in the Xbox store (along with The Walking Dead Season 1 and 2 telltale games, The Michonne mini-series and some DLC for 7DtD for £14, absolute bargain!) and I immediately installed it, started playing and died very soon after. After respawning, noticing the tutorial and completing it I had a base, some tools, a weapon and I felt like I was ready for the zombie horde. I left my base, headed out and died again.

After a couple of hours of gradually surviving longer before dying, things started to click and I really started to enjoy myself but the real enjoyment came when I fired up the co-op mode with my fiancé and realised how immersive and intense this game really can be. Once she was familiar with the game we begun to explore and before too long we had found a city littered with zombies. Taking them down and looting all the buildings was one minute easy and quiet and the next hectic and intense.

Being a deep RPG survival game ported from the PC it is very menu heavy, which on many occasions (I'm looking at you divinity!) can not translate to a console very well. 7 Days to Die however seems to have nailed it (almost). The use of the shoulder buttons and the analogue clicks make moving from menu to menu and quickly moving items a breeze. It's not all rosie however, controlling the curser with the analogue stick can be awkward to use at times but for me this is a small inconvenience.

Overall I would recommend this game highly. It's immersive, intense and plays brilliantly in couch co-op. Yeah it looks awful and the menu controls can be a bit off but it you can look past these minor problems then you really are in for a treat.

7/10 (it would have been 8/10 but I had to take a point off for the god awful graphics).

From graphics to game play, there isn’t a single positive about 7 Days to Die. It’s a game that should have been relegated to the waste bin. Let’s start with graphics. For using the Unity engine, the graphics are some of the worst I’ve seen. The draw distance is completely unacceptable for the generation of console. Gameplay: movement is bad. Slow and lethargic, it’s a chore just to move around. Combat is horrendous. Actions are stiff and boring. It doesn’t help that with how poor the draw distance is, there’s no real use for the stealth mechanic as you’re not going to see the zombies until it’s too late. The menus system is clunky. Trying to get the list of recipes to scroll was problematic at best. The positive: the crafting, amount of crafting recipes, and the ability to queue craft is a good idea - it’s just with how poor the rest of the game is, it’s completely overshadowed.

This game needed another year or two of development - if not that it should’ve been discarded and never released. Don’t waste your time or money on this. It may be on a game pass, but it’s still not worth it.

The survival part of the game is not very good as it is almost impossible to craft good weapons or items as all you find are empty cans or paper. The amount of items built into this game is enormous, like 40 times what minecraft has but honestly most of it is not useful.

What an abomination of a video game. If you’re going to make an open-world survival horror game, you need to have more details, better graphics, and better sound. There is a concept that has promise, but it takes several hours of playing to go anywhere, and even when you do get somewhere you'll be disappointed.

I love this game. I can understand why it's not for everyone; it is a bit clunky and the graphics aren't great, but it is very intuitive, easy to understand, can be very challenging or very easy, and has enough enjoyable content to keep you busy for several hours. I would certainly recommend it, but it it not for the graphics junkie.

Probably the worst zombie survival game I have ever played. It's even worse than DayZ. Terrible graphics part, the sounds in the game are so-so, but it is played in 30 frames - just awful. Nobody has optimized the game, and most likely never will.

In principle, the same as Minecraft, from which all enemies were cut out, except for zombies, and all other activities, except for basic

I will admit since I'm doing this for the console version I can't give it any more than a 5 because I did play it on console and it was incredibly janky and poorly ported especially with regards to the controls. If my review were for PC it would likely get a higher mark. And all my experiences I'll mention in the written section are mostly PC. It's a fun game. With a notable amount of jank. I'm pretty forgiving with that jank because it seems to be part of the charm but also because of what it tries to do. Some jank I dislike but much of it is just goofy fun in this game character models are gross but the modern versions zombies are pretty nice. The buildings and landscapes aren't the prettiest but the flexibility with building/digging/deconstruction makes it hard to truly make a breathtaking world. There are Some weird pathing issues and weird building restrictions but for the most part the game seems to function as intended.

One complaint I've heard is how the devs seem to "fight the player base" adding enemy mechanics to defeat certain strategies. I don't know where I stand with that. On one hand it would be frustrated to have a ironclad defense just to have zombies dig under me though I commend the effort into keeping the players fresh and on their toes and I will say, as a whole they give you allot of options to customize difficulty outside of just easy, medium, hard. The game can be grindy and unforgiving but I had no issues when I tailored the difficulty to my liking.

Auto generated maps are fun but definitely a source of allot of said jank. I don't hate this game by any stretch and have got my money's worth out of it. If you tend to have problems with less than gorgeous 4k games...probably don't buy. If you don't like horde mode games you can turn it off. Overall it's a fairly basic survival game experience but can be dull at points, especially if you turn off hordes completely. HOWEVER, I know on console the port just didn't feel very good. And actually felt frustrating to get used to. If your PC can handle it or you mean to get one soon I'd hold off. And Make sure you have friends to play with.

    - The random generation of maps can be fun as it adds a bit of variance to the game.

    Cons:

    - The graphics are fairly bad. I normally don't focus too much on a game's graphics but 7 Day's graphics are noticeably poor.

    - There is no endgame. The only thing to do is continuously complete quests and fight the 7 day horde. Other than that you begin to realise that there's nothing tied to the end game and it feels shallow.

    - The achievements are insanely buggy. Most of the tracked ones just don't track progress or unlock.

    - Melee combat becomes fairly stale. The gist is to back step to avoid a swing and then use the cooldown period to attack. There's not much more to it than that.

It is with a heavy heart that I tell you, dear reader, to avoid this game at all costs. It barely qualifies as the sum of the features it claims, and this port was given absolutely zero effort in making it functional for a console audience. Robbing a real “fun pimp” of thirty dollars will provide you with a more satisfying experience in survival horror than this thing will.

7 Days to Die had the potential to be something impressive but with frequent glitches and game freezes it falls well short of being the game it could so easily be.
