Holding back choices from the player does nothing but destroy a game's accessibility, and this is a token case. In the end, what we have with Yars' Revenge is a game with a genuinely novel and interesting aesthetic, but the lack of control concessions makes it something that's not worth picking up - that is, without trying the demo and making sure they're absolutely comfortable with how the game controls. Odds are that they won't be.

Both a poor update and an unwieldy, near-cheating videogame overall. [Issue#73, p.101]

Yar's Revenge is an awful rail shooter experience with so many shortcomings that there is hardly anything redeeming about it.

With nothing in common with the original, Yars' Revenge is a terrible bad incarnation of the original classic. Hopefully Atari will learn from this mistake and do something better the next time they decide to to a HD remake of one of their classics.

Fun game but no Panzer Dragoon Orta. I am glad to see on-rail shooters make a comeback though, and it's been a long time since I actuallyFun game but no Panzer Dragoon Orta. I am glad to see on-rail shooters make a comeback though, and it's been a long time since I actually played one personally, so it was nice to have this style of game make a return. Hopefully with they can add some Kinect support down the line as this would be a lovely game to use your hands with. Overall, I say buy if you're looking to get back into on-rail shooters and want a new game in the genre. Full Review »

Just a quick rundown on the PC version of the game. Being a console port, Yars Revenge only supports 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios, has a menuJust a quick rundown on the PC version of the game. Being a console port, Yars Revenge only supports 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios, has a menu system not designed for a point and click interface making it awkward to navigate and has no way to reconfigure keys. The biggest problem however is the horrendous, poorly-responsive in game mouse control with always on aim assist, making it impossible to play with any skill or accuracy. I would not recommend this to anyone. Full Review »
