XCOM Enemy Unknown is an amazing turn-based strategy game.

The gameplay is great, with a surprisingly smooth port, perfect balance, good AI,and a satisfying difficulty curve. There is a lot of choices that must be made, and you also have trading and resource management. There is also permadeath for each of your soldiers, which means if they die in a mission, they are dead forever. The one major flaw this game has is the lack of an autosave feature.

The graphics are pretty good, and the game runs fine on 360.There are very rare hitches in framerate though.

The game is,of course, very long.I would say 40 hours minimum.

Overall,XCOM Enemy Unknown is an awesome strategy game that is well worth picking up and playing.

I'll start this off by saying I"m bad at RTS games. Yet even though I've failed Xcom Enemy Unknown 5 times, and tried to complete it for 4 years. It's still fun to me I have fond memories of it. So for the very few (who play games) that don't have an Xbox 1 or PS4 still. And are looking for a good game let me tell you this is absolutely a good choice.

Absolutely perfect reinvention of an old game. This and XCOM 2 are both masterpieces, I'd recommend playing this one first personally due to the story arc.

Brilliant turn-based military strategy game that is surpassed only by its own sequel with includes added missions and upgrades. It is very similar however, so given the choice XCOM: Enemy Within is the better option.

By virtue of how it stokes more parts of my brain than any game of the past decade, I’m inclined to consider XCOM: Enemy Unknown one of the most important titles of this generation. This game will test your disaster-management skills, levy you with suffocatingly difficult choices on how to spend your resources and cause you to grow so fond of your chess pieces that each skirmish takes on the flavour of a Whedonesque drama.

It's like The Sims, but with much shorter life expectancies. [Issue#91, p.66]

It's [a] tough and punishing game, but in the best way possible. Every loss compels you onward in the war and the story. Where most games are frustratingly punishing, XCOM delivers a masterclass in challenge and escalation.
