Beyond the licensing, WWE Legends of WrestleMania is a smartly-designed game that enables studio antics to be more approachable to the common gamer. The gameplay isn’t dumbed down to the point where hardcore wrestling fans will scoff at Legends either.
-
For fans of WWE games, those who grew up in the 80s and 90s watching WWE wrestling, or those who always wondered who would win between John Cena and Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant and Big Show, or how about the tag team of Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase Jr vs. Dusty Rhodes and Ted Dibiase; this game is a must-buy.
-
Whether you still watch wrestling or just enjoyed it back in the day, Legends is entertaining to the end. Its pared-down controls may disappoint hardcore fans, but they do make it more playable for newcomers - and players of all stripes will appreciate the giant bearhug it gives to nostalgia.
-
There is no doubt that Legends of WrestleMania is a really entertaining game. The over-the-top graphics, solid sound, and simple but yet engaging gameplay all manage to recreate some great WrestleManias of past.
-
This is a no-brainer for anyone who still has a yellow Hulkamania shirt tucked away in their closet.
-
If you go into this game with an open mind and realize it has no association with SVR then you should love it.
-
If you are expecting from WWE Legends of Wrestlemania the typical atmosphere from the 80s, a more friendly and enhanced gameplay and new game modes, that can make you relive emotions from the past, you won’t be let down. WWE Legends of Wrestlemania does this and more, making of the THQ game a must have for everyone, especially for the nostalgic of the 80s.
-
WWE Legends of Wrestling is the one game all old school "WWF" fans should pick up. No other wrestling title has come close to matching the same level of nostalgia that Legends conveys in its close attention to detail and Wrestlemania Tour mode.
-
Games Master UKThis doesn't offer a great deal of depth but it's a fun and accessible nostalgia-fest. [Apr 2009, p.54]
-
The new control scheme is, for me, a change for the better. I for one wouldn't mind a similar system employed for SDvR10, although I'd imagine hardcore fans might not agree. At the end of the day, though, what's most important is that Legends does exactly what it set out to do, and that's provide a rose-tinted nostalgia trip down 80s and 90s wrestling.
-
Despite its looks, quite similar to the Smackdown franchise, Legends is a very different game. It has all the charm of a huge bunch of timeless stars of the WWE, and it offers a more dynamic and faster gameplay. Unfortunately, it's rather short: its game modes are just a few hours of fun, before relying just in the Exhibition modes.
-
Be sure you don’t miss out on this trip down memory lane.
-
WWE Legends of WrestleMania succeeds in its goal of being a welcome nostalgia trip down memory lane. Long-time wrestling fans will certainly appreciate reliving this experience from the earlier years of WrestleMania.
-
Excessive quick time events, repeated moves and puzzling omissions (no Macho Man Randy Savage) had us griping, but overall, Legends of WrestleMania is a fun homage to wrestling's glory days.
-
With a ton of unlockables and dozens of classic wrestlers from the glory days of the World Wrestling Federation, Legends of WrestleMania is a fan's dream come true.
-
Considering the beyond-favourable roster, the fact that you can import every character from SmackDown 2009, all of which come packing the new approach that Legends takes, and the back-to-basics gameplay, which is ultimately more fun, and THQ’s next step in the wrestling market is one of the finest sports entertainment experiences in years.
-
If you’re a fan of the WWE, or even better the original WWF, then you won’t be disappointed.
-
AceGamezAt the end of the day though, you have to applaud THQ for going so wholeheartedly after such a specific demographic; SvR players probably won't like it but that doesn't matter, because they don't need it. They have their wrestling game, and now, thanks to THQ, us oldies have ours. It may be far from perfect but I'll be damned if it isn't fun.
-
For fans who already own SvR 2009, Legends of WrestleMania makes for a great companion piece — or perhaps a replacement.
-
THQ has put together a pretty great love letter here for old school wrestling fans, and laid down a pretty good foundation for a new series.
-
Legends of Wrestlemania pays tribute to the classic WWE wrestlers and to the 80's & 90's generations. It's an easy-going gameplay experience for the new casual players interested in the classic legends. The huge and amazing videos and the Wrestlemania Tour mode are some of its best points. It is not the best wrestling game but is the only one offering a link between the past and the present of the WWE.
-
It's great fun in multi-player when you have some friends over. It's also fun just playing the single player mode. The classic video highlights are both interesting and funny.
-
WWE Legends of Wrestlemania is a game that will keep you occupied for a long time. The fighters are cool, the movies bring back good memories and there are many modes. On the graphics-side the game has his flaws, but it is still a lot of fun to play.
-
As the first WWE Legends-focused title, WWE Legends of WrestleMania does a good job of creating a memorable experience that you can share with friends or enjoy all by yourself.
-
I thoroughly enjoyed Legends Of WrestleMania. It's repetitive, yet oddly refreshing gameplay is nicely interspersed with great examples of the positive use of Quick Time Events, the videos preceding the fights in the Tour mode are authentic and add to the fan appreciation value of the game and the roster of great names allows for some hilarious multiplayer antics.
-
A perfect start to a franchise that looks to have a bright future. As it currently stands, the current game isn’t the most in-depth fighter on the market nor does it have a plethora of game modes to offer to wrestling game veterans. What it does well is recreating the history and recapturing the glory days of WWE when it was at the top of its game.
-
A decent game, which with some tweaks can turn out to be a very interesting arcade wrestling game in the future.
-
Legends of Wrestlemania does what exactly what you think it should. Despite some repetition and being short on gameplay content and depth, it’s a casual, enjoyable romp through the good ol’ days that put our childhood heroes (and villians) on a pedestal.
-
Legends' pacing is really the only serious detriment to the game. The implementation of quick-time events feels more like an awkward attempt to differentiate the series from THQ’s Smackdown franchise, rather than a fresh new gameplay mechanic. Old-school grappling fans who are longing for a simpler wrestling game will likely get the most out of LoW, but those accustomed to the fast and furious pace found in SVR will have a harder time embracing the "streamlined" controls.
-
THQ successfully manages to bring us a wrestling game aimed at the nostalgic, long-time fans, that will be able to relive some of the greatest moments of WWE from the ’80s and ’90s. The simplified gameplay makes it more approachable to every kind of gamer, but the hardcore ones could dislike its lack of difficulty, even at the higher levels.

Dec 25, 2020Not as bad as most people make it out to be. It has one of the best rosters on any wrestling game ever. Gameplay is solid.
