The critic's reviews of this game are absurd. The first thing you should know about Worms - Ultimate Mayhem is that it is actually two original X-Box games, Worms 3D and Worms 4, rolled into one beautiful, HD super-game. This could have easily been released as a full price disc game and it would be a steal. The first thing you should know about Worms - Ultimate Mayhem is that it is actually two original X-Box games, Worms 3D and Worms 4, rolled into one beautiful, HD super-game. This could have easily been released as a full price disc game and it would be a steal. The fact that Team 17 saw fit to release it as a value XBLA game makes this an insanely good deal. The gameplay is still every bit as good as the two original releases. I recommend that you read some of the positive reviews of those two games if you are unsure about this game.

The two main gripes I've seen from critics are related to the camera and the AI. While it is true that the camera takes a little practice to get used to, it is by no means difficult to master. As for the AI, I found it to be sufficient for single-player, but honestly, Worms games are made to be played against other people. Just go round up a couple of friends, or hit X-Box Live for some multiplayer action, and you will find hours and hours of hilarious, competitive entertainment. Really, what more could you ask of a game than that?

Beyond the single-player campaigns and seamless multiplayer integration, there are achievements to earn and extra stages and customization options thrown in for good measure. Bottom line, this is arguably one of the best XBLA games ever made. It is certainly one of the best values you'll find outside of a bargain bin. This game is the very definition of a must-have title and it's a shame that it has for some reason been so overlooked by the critics. Try it today and you won't be disappointed.

While Worms Ultimate Mayhem tries to deliver a fun and entertaining way of destroying invertebrates, there is just too much going against this title that could justify a purchase of any amount other than free. There is a bunch of content, however the camera system is just too broken to allow you to enjoy the game, and when combined with the AI and other aspects, Worms Ultimate Mayhem should be one that gets passed over.

Easily the best take on Worms in 3D yet. [Issue#79, p.103]
