Jul 20, 2011First Templar leaves me with mixed feelings. One the one hand it's a very fun and engaging game to make your way through with a friend, but on the other hand it has little problems here and there that mar the gameplay. It seems like it was sloppily put together and could have been better constructed all around in order to make the gameplay more fluid. It's a decent game to go through at least once and is definitely worth picking up. Not necessarily at full price, but it's certainly worth playing.

Jun 23, 2011The First Templar draws you in with interesting characters and rhythmic combat, but technical foibles can lessen your fun.
-
Jun 22, 2011It may not be the most memorable action adventure RPG game available but it does contain an enjoyable story with some interesting characters that you will meet along the way.
-
Jun 27, 2011Although it lacks polish, The First Templar makes the most of what it has, and the result is quite respectable.
-
Jun 23, 2011It doesn't take long for The First Templar, a Crusades-era action-adventure, to rear its low-budget head. [Aug 2011, p.82]
-
May 20, 2011Technically inept in many ways but there's an earnest charm to the action that proves far more entertaining than higher budget rivals.
-
May 17, 2011The whole affair just suffers from a lack of polish all round.
-
May 17, 2011It helps that The First Templar's endearingly off-kilter presentation keeps expectations low, and even at its best it's still only pretty good at what it does. But being surprised by a game that succeeds on modest terms is often more satisfying than grudgingly accepting a hyped blockbuster that fails to deliver, so while the final "not bad" score might be the same, the actual experience couldn't be more different.
-
Jul 1, 2011In the end, it's an obviously low-budget game that lives up to the lowered expectations you must entertain in order to enjoy it.
-
Jun 28, 2011It's a rental, but it's worth trying out despite the flaws if you happen to find it at a reduced price.
-
May 26, 2011The first Templar just reeks of average, and perhaps the budget afforded to Haemimont only allowed for that. Whilst the story is largely forgettable, you'll be mildly entertained with the quirky action that rides throughout. The odd puzzles are welcome, and the mixture of styles help make for a more rounded experience.

Games Master UKJul 8, 2011Too cheap and nasty by half. They used to crusade against this kind of thing. [Aug 2011, p.91]
-
Jun 27, 2011While it is clear most of the time what the developers were trying to achieve, The First Templar is a bland, repetitive game that lacks the level of polish that most games nowadays have to be considered average.
-
Jun 19, 2011Simply embarassing in every aspect, dull and meaningless. Avoidable.
-
May 30, 2011One the worst games of 2011. An annoying story, a repetitive gameplay and awful graphics make the game unplayble most of the time.

games(TM)Jul 23, 2011Consistently let down by poor design decisions and outdated play mechanics. [Issue#111, p.116]

X-ONE Magazine UKJun 28, 2011More fun than being tortured and killed, but still not really much of an advertisement for 13th Century living. [Issue#73, p.87]

Jun 2, 2011Apparently, Kalypso found "The First Templar" while dusting the attic, in a trunk labeled "2002" and decided to publish it.
-
May 19, 2011It's the sort of title you'd be disappointed if your parents picked up, because it's not only broken at times, but it also reminds you of all the other games that do the same thing but better.
-
Jun 15, 2011A dull, zero budget hack-'n'-slasher with a mad plot and easy Achievements. [Aug 2011, p.95]
