I like how most of the NPCs had there own little story to tell and often enough quests although after battling dragons it's kinda hard to have the motivation to find someones lost dog (i Don't care). at the end of the day i think everyone who has played Morrowind would agree that skyrim is the under dog. How do you make the next biggest, most fantastic fantasy RPG world? You make another installment in The Elder Scrolls series. From start to finish (which can take forever, depending on how you play) this game had me wrapped around it's fingers. From the music, to the ambient sounds, it was a well fleshed out world. The character creation was very much improved over it's predecessors. I cannot wait for the next one!!!

Skyrim is BIG. In fact, it is a little overated. The thing I don't like is that the game uses a compass rather than an on-screen mini-map, and to navigate a world as big as Skyrim, you need a mini-map to do it properly. This would rank as one of my favourite games, just stuff like Fallout and Zelda games would beat it.

Bethesda keeps pumping out great games. They fix almost all justified criticism that is in their games and continue to improve on past games. Ulfric is one of the biggest bad***es i've had the pleasure of knowing in a video game. Although the story isn't the end all defacto, Elder Scroll games have never had to rely on a complete master peace in story telling, and that is a good thing in itself. The fact highlights how solid the core aspects of the game are. I wish it had a better story and was quite disappointed by Skyrim's, it still deserves a 10 for being fresh, but improving on the same formula that Bethesda costumers have come to love. But don't get me wrong, the story and the side quests, and major side quests are very good, just not artistically perfect Expand

I'll admit this game has problems, but they are so minor. I have put 180 hours into this game, gotten every achievement (cool, right?), and pretty much done every quest possible. Also the voice acting is a little to repetitive and there are problems with having companions, and the map screen sucks.

Those may sound like a lot of nitpicks, and they are. The game is hard to put down. Its incredibly addicting, an awesome plot, and really fun quests. It's really really beautiful, the dragon fights are awesome, and the civil war has interesting political ramifications. I really have a lot of great things to say, but don't feel like typing it all. Excellent computer role-playing game which puts the player into fantasy world of Skyrim. You can explore it as you want, the main plot as old as the hills, but it doesn't ruin the whole game - it's only the fine addition to your character story. Fine graphics and controls, but user interface such as items and magic menu is too simplified in terms of design (IMHO). One of the best games in 2011y.

There is always something to do ALWAYS new quests and people to speak to and things to loot. It is refined and improved on many levels. This is a game not to be missed, for newcomers and veterans alike. This is game does everything right, fixing anything players didn't like about Oblivion; improved graphics (of course), combat, interface, dialogue, and alot less of those glitches you hated from before.
The story, is very immersive, and will keep you playing until you finish, and WAY beyond. Without giving too much away; You are the Dragonborn, set to rid Skyrim of the Dragons, who have come to wreak havoc in Tamriel. Skyrim of course has side quests, and alot of them. These are what will keep you playing until you get every last artifact, weapon and spell tome. And, to top it all off, an INSANE amount of miscellaneous objectives; which can lead to some weird questlines and quests (A talking dog!)

As for the combat, the combat isn't that fun to use. You'll be using the same 2 or 3 attacks with any weapon, like Warhammers, Daggers and Greatswords. Performing power attacks take away your stamina, but deal more damage than any other attack. Performing a power attack when your enemy is on low health, and you'll enter a killcam mode, showing a finishing move with cinematic impact (Decapitation!)
Of course, if you favour stealth and range, a bow & arrow is the way to go. You can't vary much about your bow or arrow, just the type (Long Bow, Steel Arrow, etc). Oh, and with any weapon, you can make it better via smithing or enchanting.

Customization is, like always, a big part on bow you want to play the game; and Skyrim does it really well. Like enchanting, perhaps. Want to be stealthy? Enchant your armour with a muffle sound enchantment. Like bows and arrows? Enchant your bow with a damage increase.
Smithing is the art of creating a things like weapons, armour and jewelry using ingots, or improving weapons and armour using ingots.
And alchemy is the art of making potions, using some of the weirdest ingredients you would never think of. Troll fat? Daedra hearts? Each ingredient has their own effect allowing you to make some really helpful potions.

And finally, the graphics and sound.
The graphics are stunning, with a great attention to detail. You will find NPCs with their own unique thing to say, and no graphic is overused through any part of the game. In fact, the attention to detail is so good, there are ANTS. That's right, ants. On rocks, in dungeons, everywhere. Yeah, there are pop in textures every so often, but they're graphics worth popping in. As for sound, the game is divine. Travelling through forests and rivers, you will hear a fantastic tune, a quiet one that really put's you in the game. But as soon as you enter combat, another tune plays; one that really set's the mood for fast paced combat against challenging enemies, and believe me; there are ALOT of enemies; over 400. As for voice acting, Bethesda does a good job, never using the same voice actor for any two main characters. Every stranger you meet will react to your decisions; agreeing or disagree with them. They may challenge you to brawl with them, bribe you, intimidate you or persuade you, and you can do exactly the same back to them, It's a great system the really works and gives you control over who you want to be.

    Closing comments:

This is possibly the greatest game on any console to date. Yes, the combat is clunky, Yes there's pop in textures, Yes there's glitches, but this is so easily out weighed by how many things this game does right: An immersive story, insane customisation, varied enemies and quests, and how long this will keep you occupied (Me: 120 hours, and counting) If you are a fan, or just getting started, of RPG's, this really, cannot be missed. And, if you aren't a fan of RPGs, let Bethesda chage your mind with this stunning, brilliantly executed game.

Quite possibly the most immersive gaming world ever conceived, it features a startling scope of beautiful landscapes both above and (in terms of Blackreach) below the ground level. The amount of hours I sunk into traipsing across the environs is concerning, and it wasn't for a second boring. The gameplay is better than ever, the levelling system is better than ever (if a little easy) and the mechanics for alchemy and enchanting are better than ever.

The factions storylines were shorter than they could have been, however, and overall the meatier part of the game seemed to finish all too quickly. Bethesda boast over 300 hours of gameplay, but after about 50-60 you'll really be struggling to find things to do with your character. And though Skyrims unrestricted levelling system does feel like an improvement from Oblivion, once you get to level 40+ the game becomes quite unfulfilling. Additionally, the brevity in which one can complete entire factions/most storylines actually negatively affects replayability. I started a new character looking forward to a completely new gameplay experience and instead found it to be repetitive (and - dare I say - boring?). It's difficult to pinpoint what exactly has changed, but Oblivion had a charm which made even a 3rd or 4th playthrough delightful, and Skyrim has not translated this charm. Perhaps its the bleakness of the northern regions snowy wastes? Who knows?

Overall, Skyrim is undoubtedly a masterpiece and one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences there is. It is epic on all scales, almost to the degree of exhausting all interest in 'epic' games. Still an essential game to play.

And when you singlehandedly stop said invasion, what do you get? A few comments from guards to the effect of, "Hey, stopping that dragon crisis was awesome, bro." Then it's back to "I took an arrow in the knee." The faction quests, with the possible exception of the Thieves' Guild, are similarly uninspiring. Oh, and my wife in I have a sham marriage , in which I show up every week and she gives me gold. I'd like to converse with her, but she can only say four lines of dialogue. Bottom line: maybe this is the price of a truly open world -- i.e., it's miles wide and an inch deep. And to be fair, there's plenty of mindless fun to be had. Skyrim is to the Western RPG genre as what the early Final Fantasy games/Chrono Trigger is to the JRPG. In short, a masterclass which is ambitious beyond measure and a complete labour of love from a studio which is rightfully being applauded for their commitment to a dying breed of game.

Fighting enemies has never been more intensive, landscapes have never been more beautiful. They are variously divided, but there aren't any borders noticable when entering a new climate zone. The several towns are masterpieces of architecture, stuffed with lots of NPC's, who are almost perfectly animated and seemingly filled with the spirit of life. Skyrim puts you in another world full of dungeons to explore, quests to solve, people to talk to, items to seek and find and uncountable things to love.
But, Skyrim still has its flaws. Fighting dragons can sometimes be frustrating because of several bugs and glitches, horses might levitate while playing this game and it might freeze from time to time.
To have the best experience with Skyrim, do not install it onto your hard drive.

The legendary game critic's have been raving about is very good. Though i still feel I'm just a player, I'm not very immersed as I would first think. The Combat still feels somewhat sluggish, and at times a bug happens, usually with animals. The game is still very fun, though exploration can become boring at times. The characters look good, though some people look too clean.

Some other small flaws are the random times the frame rate just drops to nothing and the game frezzes; but is easily fixed by pressing the home button on your controller; a few times were the quest glitches, and the infamous falling through the world, which happened to me in mostly solutide, and a few other minuote deatails that arent even worthy of reading. The regions are also nicely varied, you have snowy mountain peaks,(my personal favorite) forests, swamps and tundra. Onto the weapons and combat, the weapons are well done and look good but i do wish there were more types of armor and weapons. The combat is better but still a little stiff, but the addition of duel wielding an ax with a fire spell or a dagger with a healing spell or something of the like makes the combat more customisable. Technical the game deserves much to be desired, the textures especially on shade and snow is kind of blurry, also loading times are incredibly long. In my opinion the games biggest problem is its gear progression, by that I mean you'll be using near top tier weaponry by level thirty or so, that really can make the game dull in later levels. The story is quite good and its above average for a Bethesda game, along with the main quest you have guild quests, misc quests, side quests and faction quests. Over all this is a great game for any fan of video games, with its sprawling, beautiful landscape and addictive gameplay, The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim is truly a classic game. Expand

Im not talking about how much you can do, how deep the story is in any quest line, or even how many different variations of character you can make, im talking about true gameplay. Now when I start talking about gameplay I am only speaking of aspects that don't fall in to other categories that could be used to rate a game such as visuals, amount of content/replay-ability, story, or sound im talking about things like the depth of its combat mostly. See the thing to understand here is that this game ultimately revolves around combat primarily and interactions with npc's as a distant secondary. Melee in this game is void of skill, it is nearly 100% stat based and you can simply quick swing, power swing or block and the different swings only differences are damage and time taken to execute which in combat comes down to can i take him down with one or two hard hits or do i need to block a bit and beat him down piece by piece there is no dodging to counteract your possibly poor block skill or lack of shield there is no need to understand enemy attacks either they will hurt you if they hit you or if you block it it will hurt alittle or almost as much as normal and with spells and archery its all relevant the spells do elemental damage so the enemy is either resistant, weak, or neutral to a spells type not to mention that every spell has its different element counterpart. Basically what combat comes down to is a stat based mashfest either you swing and block/heal or shoot spells/heal till you prevail or you just cant do it no median for skill no use of in-game mechanics to turn the tide of battle if you have lower stats than your foe or anything its either you can or cant period. Now for a lot of people gameplay depth doesn't matter, all they want is to feel powerful when they hit things or see cool animations for spells/attacks which this game definitely provides, as well as for gamers who highly value things outside of gameplay such as the points i mentioned earlier. Overall this is a game for people who value aesthetics over gameplay and quantity over quality, which the second point is perfectly reasonable but the first not so much since movies and other media sources can provide aesthetics and not gameplay where as only games can provide gameplay which is the sole reason Myself and many many other gamers buy games. So for a quick summary Gameplay is far from deep and ultimately does not rely on the players ability at all making it hard to call fulfilling for doing anything through gameplay, yet the aesthetics are amazing beautiful scenery and more content (not necessarily play time) than any other console game can offer (doesnt really beat out the pc games so much). Dont buy if you want a deep narrative or varied/engaging gameplay. Expand

The most ANNOYING thing about this game I have to say. If you're like me, then you would want to create the most evilest bastard whom ever lived... So lets say you're going for a stroll and you get a thirst for slaughtering helpless villagers... TOO BAD... Most of the game NPCs in this damn game are invincible. What got me the most about this game was the freedom to do ALMOST anything you wanted, which was in the last Elder Scrolls... The world was very wide and just tempting you to explore. After completing the main quest of slaying big-n-nasteh (which really wasn't too long..) I found myself lost. Very much... Bored. I mean there are a TON of fun quests in this game that will make you laugh and twist your emotions... But past those fun quests are dull and endless quests that have you run across the world to kill some bandits then run across the world to kill some more... IT WAS BORING... Don't get me wrong though, this game is a MUST PLAY. The story will suck you in and not let you go until you slay that ugly bastard. Slicing the heads off of random people will keep you entertained for quite some time and it is worth your moneys worth. Non the less, your actions are not as impacting to the world compare to Bethesda's last game Fallout 3. I really enjoy the new Leveling system which comes in many skill trees. Each action you do for that skill tree levels up the more you do it, this will unlock perks on that tree that gives extras bonus to your character, depending on the trees you spend the most on will define your characters play style. Events happen around the world of Skyrim such as random Dragons crossing by, attacking a near by town. Killing these huge dragons rewards you Dragon souls use to unlock hidden shouts. I found the shout system really useful since it can be used for all play styles. Skyrim may be big with many events and quest to do but there isn't as much conflict then just the civil war. Choices kind of seem a bit limited and your actions don't reflect too heavy on your overall playthrough. Dungeons can get repetitive, giving you the same puzzles and enemies to fight but I have been wowed in a few dungeons that looked open and creative. Lastly, for an open world game, there are bugs that could ruin your playthrough but nothing but a good quick-save could resolve the problem. Overall, despite the lack of some impacting story/side quest, Skyrim is really fun and well design in gameplay. There are many ways to build your character adding new and different playthroughs with different play styles. For your money, your getting a lot for package. Expand

Even the AI is better than in Oblivion, with (thankfully) more voice actors and dialogue options. The textures, music, and sound effects are also beautiful beyond anything I have ever seen in a game before. I tried to start a new game from scratch, and I did still really enjoy it, problem was the magic and wonder of exploring the game this time round felt more like a chore than an adventure. Skyrim is an absolutely great game, that is worthy of the praise that it gets. But I can not help but feel that it is the kind of game that you can only really enjoy the first time you play it through. So this lack of replayability is perhaps the only real critique I can give it. Granted the bugs were annoying, but forgivable and generally I rarely noticed them for long. So Overall a great game that perhaps tries far to much, a bit more diversity in playthroughs could have added morel life to this game. Expand

They took me to fantastic worlds I did not know I had access to and induced emotional peaks I did not know I could reach. Today, I eagerly seek out games that provide a exceptional level of immersion and completeness. I want a game to enable my re-visitation of those wondrous childhood dreamscapes. Skyrim is an anomaly. How did this game emerge from a contemporary gaming landscape plagued by infinitely repetitious, borderline masochistic online cluster f*ck ``adventures`` such as World of Warcraft or Guild Wars 2? May the hordes of PC gamers unite in their digital attack of this query, I give you my blessing. Skyrim is the cure for the disease infecting modern RPG gaming. Even the most garbage mouthed, irrational forum troll could not convince me otherwise. Play the game. Immerse yourself. You`ll find Skyrim offers you what your beloved MMORPG cannot: choice.

Don`t turn off, tune in. Get involved emotionally with the serenity of Tamriel`s bubbling brooks and be inspired by its kingly mountains. Listen to the stories being whispering by townspeople to you, a passing stranger, wandering a vast feudal landscape rife with unique political struggles and social consequentialism. Or, you could tune-out, turn off, hypnotize yourself with mind-numbing hoarding. Skyrim encapsulates the best of both worlds.

I write this having already had my fill of Skyrim. We had a passionate and attentive relationship, but for the most part, its over. Yes, recent DLC tempts me as much as the next Bethseda fan-boy, but I feel more inclined to abstain. I`ll save it for a rainy day, perhaps. My point is that coming out the otherside of my Skyrim expereince, I can assure any readers in full condifence that this was the best game I played this year. Skyrim is probably the best game I`ve played in five years. I for one, put my faith in Bethseda to be the ray of light that penetrates through the hazy future of RPG gaming. So cheers to you, Bethseda, and cheers to those who forgot, if only for a moment, that they were playing a video game.

Graphics and exploration are really great in this game. It is the most open and free-ing game I have played. You rarely have to do something in order.

The loading however gets really awful after playing awhile. The time gets longer the more you play and this game loads all the time. There is a tons endless hours of content but there is also tons of hours of load screens which keep this from getting a higher score.

The random dragon encounters also get tedious and frustrating when your just trying to get from a town to a cave. It was exciting the first 5 times but after a while they could cut back on those.

Its a unique experience however and I would recommend it for sure.

This game has so much depth to it it almost feels endless at times. The pros do indeed outweigh the cons in this awesome RPG. In Skyrim you have the option of becoming a mage, archer, warrior, or you can be all three. In my first playthrough I was a mage. This in my opinion, is easily the most enjoyable and satisfying combat type to play as in Skyrim. Shooting fire, ice or electricity bolts which potentially one shot enemies is so satisfying in this game. The more you level up in the game the more godlike your character becomes. You feel a great sense of achievement when your character is high level. There is so much depth to this game that it's almost unreal. Now since I said the pros outweigh the cons, I will go into the cons now. The two main cons I had with this game were the overwhelming amount of bugs and glitches, and the slightly forgettable main quest. Regarding the technical problems(bugs, glitches etc), these are somewhat expected in a game as huge as Skyrim. The main quest on the other hand could have had much more to it in terms of length and twists. It felt under-delivered and too short in my opinion. But these two gripes are hardly noticeable in a game that is packed with content, and is almost endless. I loved exploring the land of Skyrim visiting snowy mountains, grassy plains, and clearing dungeons and caves as well. I am terribly arachnophobic, and each time I encountered incredibly detailed and realistic mutant spiders developed by the great dev's at Bethesda, I almost jumped out of my seat every time. The scare was always there. Overall Skyrim is an epic RPG and I highly recommend it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Skyrim is in a way the best RPG game ever made. The Elder Scrolls series is now got the crown after Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim all have GOTY awards and top ratings. But what makes it good? It isn't the gameplay, the story, or the graphics. It's the creativity and imagination in it's universe that gives it it's spark.

The game takes place in Skyrim, a state of the Imperial government on Tamriel. You play as, The Dragonborn, a figure so highly regarded by the people of Skyrim and is the only hope for dispelling evil from the world as a Dragon named, Alduin, is going to destroy the world. The Dragonborn sets out to learn the ancient magic known as, Shouting, a form of magic that is the Dragon's own form of language. You can breath fire, knock anything out of the way, turn yourself into a ghost, call animals to aid you, detect enemies around you, or even call other Dragons to aid you. You master these abilities in order to combat Alduin.

The game is heavy with exploration and quest. As you can travel all around Skyrim to fetch a stolen amulet or stop an entire Civil War. It also shapes to your character and how the world is formed around your actions. As guards of cities will comment on a powerful Deadric weapon or item you carry, your features of being a Werewolf or a vampire, or what you do to enhance the world around them.

Combat is varied through several type of abilities and skills. Like sword fighting, casting magic, assassinating, or poaching a helpless bandit with arrows. Physical combat can be lacking, but enemies can match for skill if you turn up the difficulty. Magic has several 'schools' of magic that can cover illusions, destruction, alterations, conjuring, or alchemy that can effect combat in many other fields. Stealth is slow paced, but deadly. Archery is for marksmen that can deal serious damage to unsuspecting enemies or pegging them one by one before they can even get close.

Graphics are amazing, and make the immersion almost mind blowing. Even on 360 does it look good, but PC players will have thought life was sitting in their monitors.

Skyrim is a must buy for people that love RPGs.

Let's jut get one thing out of the way, the game looks amazing, though it is one to be viewed as a big picture because at closer inspection of many of the rocks, wood and items reveals some ugly textures... But one quickly forgets of these problems when viewing a beautifal view from a mountain.

One thing is poor about the graphics, and that is the horrible render distance. Everything pops in when you walk a meter, waterfalls look frozen from a distance and much of this is most notable in the the Rift where the trees from a distance look horrible.

One thing to mention is the story, and this mostly comes at a mixed bag. Almost all of the factions are un-interesting and shallow... And nothing actually impacts the world much except the quick phrase from a guard saying "Aren't you that new guy at the Companions?" even though you just became the leader. The only guild I actually enjoyed due to it's themes, characters and well written stories was the Thieves Guild.

Many of the side quests are interesting, some more then others with only a handful that actually stood out from the rest (No one Escapes Cidna Mine, The Forsworn Conspiracy etc) though the best of all of the games stories were the Deadric Quests due to the fact many of these actually had choices that gave you different rewards (such as a follower or artifact) depending on the difficicult moral choice given to you by the deadric lord.
The civil war is alright... The politics and story behind is good, though the battles at the cities are laughable and the world barely changes after your faction winning and no moot is held.

The gameplay is good... If not a bit easy, it is best to replay the game on higher difficulties once the game is completed. I wish changing the difficulty changed more then just the damage output and recieved. The dungeons can get repetative and the puzzles are VERY easy, though this is a minor complaint. I also wish the sneaking was better and more realistic and the game had some kind of Hardcore mode like New Vegas but with taking acount the weather.

Overall the game is excellent, though isn't as perfect as many claim it to be. I hope Bethesda's next game would be not as linear and dumbed down and all of the stories to actually be great and choices affecting the world.
