From its mind-bending control scheme to its smorgasbord of play types, Street Trace's learning curve hews closer to "Catan" than "Hexic". [Aug 2007, p.81]

Unfortunately for Street Trace there are just far too many better games coming down the road for it to be able to maintain the multiplayer community it will need to succeed.
  3. Street Trace: NYC provides a few moments of multiplayer amusement, but it doesn't have enough going for it to be compelling for long.
  4. Somewhat one dimensional, with gameplay that doesn’t inspire a lot of repeat play.

The game has an admirable variety of modes, from career to arcade to quick play, but with a basic mechanic this crappy, all the variety in the world can't save it. [Feb 2007, p.100]

Hoverboards, combat, angsty riders, and a cabal-ruined New York City should at least make for an amusing game. Instead it's dreadfully boring.

A flawed, but very entertaining game, Street Trace: NYC combines some of the best and worst aspects of Twisted Metal, Jet Set Radio, Tony A flawed, but very entertaining game, Street Trace: NYC combines some of the best and worst aspects of Twisted Metal, Jet Set Radio, Tony Hawk, and Fuzion Frenzy. It doesn't do anything perfectly: the racing is good but not terribly accurate (like Jet Set Radio), the controls seem bewildering at first and only reward you after deep play (like Tony Hawk), the AI seems too easy or too hard, and the voice acting borders on laughable (Fuzion Frenzy). But, like all these titles, the flaws don't keep you from enjoying this game. Frankly, this would be one of the worst games for the 360 if it was a retail release at $20 or $30. But for $10 as an XBLA title, I think it would appeal to any fan of the games I mentioned above and that brings up its ranking. Full Review »
