    It took me 5 hours to realize that this game is actually just very dull. The tracks are a sprawling mess which would require a lifetime of play to memorize so going and finding shortcuts etc is just a pointless exercise. The control system is just rubbish, you basically push the stick to select which route you want to take and the game does the rest for you, it's often a case of trying toIt took me 5 hours to realize that this game is actually just very dull. The trick system has turned into a button mashing exercise as there is no risk in deciding to go for uber-tricks anymore as all tricks land as long as you release the button before you land.

    Very disappointed, I think the developers should have made less content but concentrated on making the individual runs as fun and as memorable as possible.    … Expand

    SSX was never a realistic game and wanted to do it now ruining the game completely. SSX3 I liked and thought that the new SSX would look like and do not recommend this new version.

    I've been a fan and Tricky Gamer since the beginning. I bought the game assuming online play would be a no brainer.....WRONG! The graphics are gorgeous and gameplay of single player is a lot of fun. Opened all the mountains around the globe...fun.... but ... wait for it..... ONLINE PASSCODE no longer works. No access to the online play and all the things I've opened(characters, mountains,I've been a fan and Tricky Gamer since the beginning. I bought the game assuming online play would be a no brainer.....WRONG! The graphics are gorgeous and gameplay of single player is a lot of fun. Opened all the mountains around the globe...fun.... but ... wait for it..... ONLINE PASSCODE no longer works. No access to the online play and all the things I've opened(characters, mountains, etc.) GONE! It's been 3 weeks trying to work out the details with EA support in India - NO GO! Looking forward to Comicon where I can go tell these EA guys off. Awful customer service and the new Online Passcode jargon is a joke! Do not recommend any EA game because of this.… Expand

    I ended up trading the game in. I wanted so badly to like it, but after two months I stopped trying to make myself believe that I was having fun. I feel that the SSX dev team was sincerely committed to making a strong game and I give TB and the rest of the guys credit for strong post-launch support. At the end of the day, however, this game feels like a chore to play (at least to me) forI ended up trading the game in. At the end of the day, however, this game feels like a chore to play (at least to me) for the following reasons:

    1. This game never shed the "deadly descent" idea of the original trailer. When the backlash occurred, they repackaged the game and stressed the lighter side...but the mountains clearly show the stamp of the "extreme" philosophy behind the game. Death pits and dying (in an SSX game???) are not why I play this series. More forgiving courses exist but they are few and far between. It's a strange game where only 1/3 of the racing drops are fun to me. Give me Snowdream, Elysium Alps, and Merqury City any day.

    2. The "equipment" is gimmicky and adds nothing to the series. I don't want to buy oxygen tanks, pulse goggles, or headlamps. All I want to do is shred down the mountain. The previous SSX games charmed me with their simplicity. This game bludgeons me over the head with forced equipment.

    3. Split-screen multiplayer. Didn't realize I'd miss it this much until I sat down with my sibblings and we could only watch each other play. Some of my most fun gaming memories are playing Tricky and SSX3 with my sister. Racing or tricking against her while being in the same room was just a blast. I understand why the team axed it - and to their credit the online mode is well implemented - but this generation's trend away from split screen gaming has been a big letdown. 4. I played SSX3 and Tricky the other day and, despite these games being over a decade old, I was instantly having fun. I don't get this with the new SSX. It simply makes me want to rage.

    I'm glad that the DLC returns to the roots of the series, but for me it's too little too late. Having spent $60 by buying this on day one, spending another $8 to get the "classic" SSX experience is a slap in the face. I also find it revealing that the first DLC is a nod to the previous games. Perhaps the dev team sensed that they alienated some of the old-time fans of the series. To conclude, I'm jealous of those of you who enjoy the game. Like many of us, I badly wanted and waited for an SSX game this gen. The series has changed and while it may seem for the better to some, I can't help but feel let down. Looks like it's back to Tricky and 3 for another decade. :)    … Expand

    I can't believe this game. Everything that made the previous games fun are gone. The characters are no longer outspoken. Level design is atrocious. Why is there a tree right next to a jump? You literally fly into a tree. There is no multiplayer. Who wants to race against a ghost? Just when I tried to forgive this game, the unthinkable happens; now im not able to connect to RiderNet.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a huge fan of SSX and Tricky, I was very much looking forward to the reboot of SSX. I hate to admit to being disappointed, but that would be the nicest way to sum up my feelings regarding this game. After the tutorials and the first mountain series, I was cautiously optimistic I may enjoy it. Sure, the controls are VERY fidgety, and I told myself I would just need time getting used to it's sluggishness and unresponsive feel. I even enjoyed the first Deadly Descent. It was only then that everything started getting a little complex. The wing suit. The armour. The weather suit. The polarised lenses. All of these upgrades and add-ons which try to add an element of strategy and variety to preceedings - which is simply NOT what SSX is about or what SSX needs. For me, the joy of SSX in it's glorious early years was the brilliance of it's level design, the simplicity and fluidity of the controls and the gameplay. SSX used to make you WORK for your points and your combos, whereas now it is a veritable eyesore of mapped out jump ramps, endless amounts of grind rails (where you don't even have to balance on) and a trick control system which is just too unresponsive, over-populated and no longer engaging. Couple these faults with the frustrations within the game - the constant failure of the level design forcing you to plunge down invisible crevices to your untimely demise, the most pointless rewind facility in the history of video game design where YES, you can rewind your progress mid-event to correct your mistake but the AI opponents CONTINUE down the mountain (which completely belittles the reasoning behind a rewind system), the dreadful attempt at a story, the missed opportunities to create a world where you are encouraged to go off-piste and discover new locations, the constant infuriation of RiderLog telling me to make friends with random people just because their time was within 0.1 seconds of mine on any given event - put them all together and SSX smacks of "missed opportunity".

    Perhaps my biggest frustration, however, is the end series of the World Tour. I know EA have a tendency to make short games - I was there for the full 4 hours SP campaign in Medal Of Honour, I was there for the 3.5 hour campaign of Battlefield 3 and by-God I was there for the 2 hour and 2 minutes it took me to finish Need For Speed The Run, but SSX can be gobbled up in 3 hours comfortably with the exception of the last mountain where the game goes on a difficulty spike so sharp, it can only be explained by the developers realising how short it was and they just didn't want you to finish it that quickly.

    As much as my love for old-school SSX continues (indeed I dusted off my original Xbox for a bout of Tricky earlier today), EA have dropped a howler with this reboot. For those who never experienced the originals - it might have something here to satisfy. To anyone who knows and loves SSX from time-gone-by, prepared to be sorely disappointed. If we as gamers keep praising CRAP, then all we are going to get is CRAP.     This game could've been fun if it wasn't so frustrating and hard, this game is ridiculously hard for no actual reason, people don't play these games to be skull rammed so hard they have to break something. The goal of the campaign is to come third in every event and become the best, honestly at least 70% of the events it has been made impossible to get 1st, why do they do this?     This is not ssx. It's a wana be snowboard sim. It focuses on survival and NOT tricks which is the whole point of ssx. I've been a long time fan and I wish I didn't buy this one or see it be release. It's trash compared to tricky or 3

    Gameplay is not fun, I don't think there is much more to say after that. Clumsy snowboarding and clumsy level design.

    Two words so sum up the game, frustrating and messy.

    EA have taken one of my favorite games ever and smashed it to pieces. They have taken the parts and made this game leaving out the fun, scale and innovation. This is a terrible game that should be avoided.

You rarely feel in control and the game becomes frustrating and boring very quickly.     If they cut any more corners, there would be nothing left. No splitscreen, no skiing?! WTF. Why would they just take a complete step back from previous installments. Whatever, I will just keep playing on tour. I hope the man who created this game burns in hell.

    This game is garbage. You can literally win a game by not touching the controller! You have to actually TRY to crash or fail. This game is a testament to the hand holding in modern console games.

    Go search Youtube for "SSX no controller" to see what I am talking about. It also requires an online pass which you have to pay for in order to get the online features.     This game has the absolute worst control I have seen in a long time. Every controller input has a delay that hinders any fun this game may have had. This game is not worth purchasing at all.

After going through the tutorials, playing through the first peak out of 9 and after painstakingly watching multiple "how to do tricks and score huge points" videos..... this game is impossible bullsh*t. The next peak, Siberia, tasks the player to score 1,4 million points in a trick event to even unlock anyThis game sucks. Wow how hard this sucks. Why? The difficulty is out of control. After going through the tutorials, playing through the first peak out of 9 and after painstakingly watching multiple "how to do tricks and score huge points" videos..... this game is impossible bullsh*t. The next peak, Siberia, tasks the player to score 1,4 million points in a trick event to even unlock any other events. So apparently the designers thought it would be funny to lock 95% of the content out of the game for players that arent in the top 30 of the world at playing this game. After multiple "how to" videos and such, I am doing what I am instructed ti do, pulling of insane amounts of tricks, stringing them together to an unbroken insane combo..... and the game just pulls some bullsh*t score out of a hat that goes somewhere between 200,000 and 600,000. So.... what, is this a practical joke by EA? Make a game that becomes it impossible to progress in the career mode after something like four events? That is something else. And that makes this technically not even a game. It makes this a piece of garbage that should be burned.… Expand

    If a game has bad graphics but great gameplay I could over look the graphics. If the sound was made up of free stock sound effects they found online but the gameplay was good I could overlook the sound. If I'm playing a RPG that fails to make a decent story but delivers an exciting fun adventure I could look past its flaws.... but when a game has bad controls there is no looking past it.If a game has bad graphics but great gameplay I could over look the graphics. In a game that relies entirely on controls it's done for. Nothing will make up for that. And this is why SSX gets a low score. Others have called it "a masterpiece" or "the best in the series" I doubt.... no I highly doubt, they've played the original.

    This is plagued with bugs and glitches. It causes all the skill you've acquired from playing it for so long and throws you off a cliff for no reason. You can get better at this game but you'll always be at the mercy of the controls. Flying off a side of a wall, somehow boosting up a 90 degree wall, randomly jumping up off the ground despite not pressing A or using the stick to jump or the worst of them all... the rails. Grinding on rails is the most broken part of this game. Hovering next to a rail in the grinding pose will happen at a lot, you'll either teleport onto the rail or crash by pressing a grind trick. Riding anywhere near a rail will cause your rider to hover over to the rail despite all your efforts to not get on it. In order to grind terrain objects you hold left trigger, to stop grinding you also use the left trigger... yeah that was a great idea. Sometimes you'll hold the trigger to grind a tree but you'll enter the animation of grinding on it followed by falling off the side or crashing on the snow. Sometimes despite holding the trigger and having enough speed you'll just ride up it and over it. If there is a rail in mid air and you're anywhere near it you'll gravitate over and if it's slopped upwards you'll bail and crash, sometimes your rider will try to land on a rail from the bottom of it or approaching it from the side which of course will crash you.

    Collision detection is laughable. I've randomly been stuck inside of rocks, trees and walls. You'll either clip inside the object or hover over it slowly spinning as the game will prompt you to rewind. When you do crash you could get stuck in that crashing animation for a long long time. What's worse is the lack of physics this game has, such as; if you're in a pipe your rider will loop it like a rollercoaster, at times the game can't tell whether you're on a rail or not so you'll be boosting in mid air when you try to tweak your moves, double tapping B, X or Y will start a special grind but doing so will make your rider do the trick twice which will count as a duplicate trick and cost you serious points.

    The game also suffers from poor design choices. Say you do a nose grab and crash when you land, if you rewind and do the nose grab again it will count as a duplicate trick... even though you've rewound time and space. But one of the most annoying is the stupid helicopter. If you have a high enough jump near certain areas of the track you'll reach up and land on the helicopter which is supposed to give you instant Tricky, now that's all fine and dandy but when you jump off the helicopter you'll lose all your speed. So if this were to happen during a gap, you'll jump off the helicopter and fall down causing you to crash, rewind or start over. And this happens in a few tracks, so this will force you to jump lower or ignore the jump which cost you points. The points from the helicopter aren't even worth it.

    Simple ideas and some patches to fix grinding would make this game much better. For example; if you pay a drop cost for an event that's almost ending we should be allowed a final run if the time runs out and grey out the Restart option making it the final run. Making the restart process faster, like Trials Evolution. Allow players an option to take away the helicopter. How about giving us some replays? Give players a create a track mode. Heads up racing with friends. An option to turn off auto-adjust onto rails. And being able to control our character would be better. An option to customize our controls.... that way winding up for a backflip won't cause your character to stop or veer off to the side.

    I would recommend the original game, which came out a long long time ago yet it had better physics and controls.

    (PS I know people are going to say "you're just mad cause you're bad" actually no... I get diamond finish in every event I play except for Survival tracks because the bad controls showcase even more during those ones. This game is too easy to exploit, go to the sides of the path and do tricks off the walls slowly moving forward to keep up the flow multiplier at 20. And the racing is easier, just get tricky and boost using rails or doing a nose press to keep it going the entire track. And I'm not flexing my gaming skills... it's just too easy even with bad controls.    … Expand

    If I was someone who'd never played the previous titles I can see how the adrenaline rush could whisk one away for a week or so - doesn't take more than 1-2 evenings to best the campaign - and there's enough relative competition in the multiplayer to keep you coming back to best people's times...

    but overall; as someone who was borne and raised on the PS2 with the original title and it's 2 major sequels (Blur slipped me by and On Tour felt like a cheap indie-pop revival spin-off... I personally consider it a bit of a non-canon 'emo' phase for an otherwise hip-hop funk-fest of a series) I have to say SSX (2012) was disappointing to say the least.

    I can't deny having the same sinking feeling when presented with what many were calling a 'Call of Duty'-esque sneak-peak trailer - a real juxtapose to one of the original SSX trailers which is essentially various in-game sequences of the funkadelic cast smacking each other, busting ridiculous flips and smashing through glass to the soundtrack of some bad-boy jungle for the best part of 30 seconds - and likewise when it finally came to crunch time: there it was - all the spiralling, speed and slope shooting but none of the outrageous characters and charm that made the original series more than just high-octane racing with ridiculous tricks: it was high octane racing with ridiculous tricks set in a universe just as outrageous.

    I had no qualms whatsoever with the revived classic characters, in fact I loved how they had aged, as they always did, naturally, from series to series, relative to the years between titles. But where once upon a time you could kit out your riders with different board types and apparel, full 3D renders, catchphrases, animations and all, now it's all conceptual art with an infinity style variation of everything - the most you can do to change your characters wears is the rendered skin colour... dude you used to be able to give Moby some mad dreads, get Mac riding on a Dollar Bill, Put cowboy stuff on Nate and what prepubescent teenager wasn't dressing Elise in the skimpiest shorts and bunny ears? It was that kind of character personalisation and immersion that took the game to a next level - that and the classic: split-freakin'-screen! Live racing dude! Besting someone's time is one thing but whaaaat!? You can't even race online players live in the 2012 revamp? Seriously?

    I wasn't expecting much from the ever-increasingly monopolised EA, especially considering the founding father BIG studio was no more. But really? SSX used to have a cool, underground sonic aesthetic - now the soundtrack consists of DJ Fresh and Skrillex... where's the subterranean beats EA? That 'cool' vibe? You used to have Mix Master mike on deck dudes... then you pulled in the genuinely likeable DJ Atomica - now we have to put up with an inaudible dude in a heli who sure ain't no disc jockey. You lost your steeze and invested purely in sell-value, and you flopped because of it. Sure you pulled some pennies on this project but you missed the boat that made this series rock - you didn't take any risks whatsoever.

    You amped up the action value because hey, everyone wants blockbuster action in their video games in the 21st century, right? Wrong - indie's on the rise because as much as we love our Uncharted and our GTAs, we like zany madness too guys! We like abstract and silly. And there are generations of millenials stuck in the backend of a disgusting recession who's housing options are increasingly sharing flats/houses: that's thousands of one of the biggest gaming markets sat in shared living rooms making do with Fifa and Mortal Kombat for shared screen multilayer experiences - swapping controllers to take turns doing laps on Dirt... SSX without Splitscreen or the ability to race real human beans, live, is just... flat man. Flat as it comes.

    And no punching? No social connections? No Zoe is friends with Moby and Moby hates Elise and Kaori hates Psymon and blah blah blah? Whaaaat!? No big bios. No custom trick-set ups? No tracks based anywhere bar back-country and off piste? What no crowd stands and fireworks and loop the loops and "DO NOT ENTER" glass signs to break through and take the lead? No standing ovation on the podiums? No TOKYO MEGAPLEX REVAMP!? WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? All the steez - all the swagger - all the funk: dropped in place of wing suits, ice picks and oxygen tanks...

    Hey the danger element is cool. Bring it on. Bring it in. I love it. I love the gear, especially that wing-suit. But don't give us those cool bonuses and then tear away the heart and freaking soul of this game? It's the same body, the speed, the tricks, the fluidity, but none of the heart. None of the personality. No flare.

    Oh and grinding is now a glue-stuck to the rail affair - no skill required - you used to have to be a bossman to boss rails... now all you have to do is hop on and ride - too easy to become a master by finding the best path on this game. 2012 flopped - do better!    … Expand

    This is undoubtedly the WORST game I have ever had the displeasure of playing. It's unbalanced. It's unfair. It's ugly. And most importantly is no fun at all. DO NOT BUY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. This is worse the big rigs over the road racing. I'm being serious. Please, save your money- give it to a worthy cause. Not to this utter trash heap of a company.

    Assez moche il faut bien l'avouer mais surtout bien gogol, un jeu pour **** kévins assurément pour faire le bouffon sur sa planche. C'est plein de mots anglais, ça déborde de kikoololerie dans tous les sens et c'est vraiment très con.

    The creators succeeded in reviving the SSX-franchise. The slopes are varied, challenging and incredibly fast. There is always challenge to be found, especially in the expansive multiplayer, but new players shouldn't have any problems picking it up.

    Whether your favorite was SSX Tricky or SSX 3, this latest entry, simply titled "SSX," has virtually nothing to do with the franchise fans fell in love. Voiceovers from DJ Atomika have been slapped on top to reassure you that yes, you're playing an SSX game, but the gameplay, courses, and overall quality are saying something else entirely.
