There's more than enough here to luv for Sega fans big and small. [Apr 2008, p.64]
  2. SST is a decent foray into the tennis genre, but rather than rely on the basic game, throws lots of diversity into the mix with its mini games and challenges.

If you are looking for a mascot-based tennis game that doesn’t have “Mario” in the title - and a better variety of characters - give Sega Superstars Tennis a swing.
  4. It isn't trying to be competition to the tennis sims, it's providing an alternative option that is simple, easy and fun.
  5. While the minigames and Superstar moves are fun, the core tennis controls lack any semblance of depth.
  6. If you’re a fan of Sega though you’ll simply love what Sumo have done with Superstars and the online tennis matches will certainly keep you coming back for more once you have lapped up the Superstars mode.

It's just a very average tennis game, gameplay is decent, but the character models look weird, and the amount of content is underwhelming.
