BoomtownIt looks and plays fantastically well and recalls the days when flight sims were something fun and accessible as well as requiring intelligence.
-
Being a modern military aircraft lover, I can easily look over the sketchy graphics, the odd interfaces, and the brief missions and just enjoy the impressive lineup of birds. While it’s still hard to justify paying sixty bucks to fly a MiG, Eagle, or Raptor, this is as close as most of us will get to the real deals.
-
The planes look pretty and they fly with precise controls and accurate physics, but that’s about all you can say nice about Over G.
-
Over G Fighters manages to get into the sky, but fails to put on a memorable show.
-
If you're in the market for a proper jet-fighter game, I'd recommend hunting down a proper PC simulation. I remember EF-2000 from about 1998 being about 1998 times better than this. And if you want an arcadey dogfighter, try "Crimson Skies" for Xbox 1 instead.
-
A good example of why realism in games isn't necessarily the best outcome.
-
Other than plenty of cockpit bleeps and bloops, the sound is also lackluster. Bad, generic metal loops dominate the soundtrack, making you actually wish Kenny Loggins was back on the scene.
