  1. 2K Sports insistence on cramming new features in every instalment of this long-running series is admirable, but hopefully next time they will focus on tweaking what they currently have and making the offensive side of the game more fun.
  2. NHL 2K7 is a solid game and the new animations help to make it feel more next-gen worthy than last year's entry. However, despite the sheer number of new features, nothing feels particularly groundbreaking.

Much like Sony's old "FaceOff" series, the gameplay itself is super-fast and floaty(by default; sliders let you tweak this), and the skates never really feel attached to the ice the way they should. [Nov. 2006, p.84]
  4. NHL 2K7 never succeeds in rising above being an incremental upgrade over last year’s games.

There's at least one thing they haven't improved which they should have done though, and that's your team mates AI, I occasionally found my own team mates crashing in to me, an autosave wouldn't have hurt either, but they're just small niggles really.

EA's NHL effort is masterful, ballsy, and innovative. NHL 2K7 is stale, boring, and predictable.

And 2K7: time to innovate. More is not better at this point. [Oct. 2006, p.106]
  8. The franchise mode is one of the deepest you’ll find and it has extensive online play options. Unfortunately, the on-ice action and sub-par presentation serve to overshadow the good.
  9. I preferred it to older versions of EA’s series, but the new "NHL 07" is clearly better on the ice than NHL 2K7. The AI and the way players interact with each other and the puck are clearly behind EA’s game now.

"NHL 07's" dual-stick control opens a new world of tactics, but NHL 2K7 plays for pure fun and speed. [Nov 2006, p.98]
  11. Overall NHL 2K7's new features are a lot subtler than "NHL 07's." In a lot of ways 2K7 is what I had hoped 2K6 for the 360 would have been.
  12. NHL 2K7 plays a solid game of hockey thanks to a frozen lake’s worth of content, but rough controls, unforgiving AI and redundant tutorial content are the equivalent of thin ice for beginners.

This is exactly the same as last year's version. Ignore the Rivalry and Cinemotion fluff and you'll be hard pushed to spot genuine advances. At least EA pretends to try. [Issue 12, p.99]

At higher difficulty levels, the CPU player is not actually better, he can just do more than you can. On the hardest level, his goalie becomes an unstoppable machine. Also, the achievements are unfair. It sucks to work towards something for days, and then unfairly not get the achievement. This is a glitch and some achievements are unattainable. Full Review »

Great look and feel. Wish the franchise mode was a little more detailed.
