    Its definitely worth a look and you might even find yourself enjoying it rather a lot, if you can look past a lot of the games obvious shortcomings.

    Like its PC brother War Logs starts as an ambitious roleplaying game drawing me in with its opening sequence and fresh scenario. The battle system works well, so does the crafting. But too soon the plot loses its grip, the characters get stale and overall the visuals seem as outdated as ever.

    An ambitious outing for a smaller studio to be sure as Mars: War Logs is big on ideas but sadly a bit lackluster on actual execution.

    A very ambitious downloadable game. It's obvious things like budgetary restraints got in the way here and there, but it's also evident thatA very ambitious downloadable game. It's obvious things like budgetary restraints got in the way here and there, but it's also evident that developer Spiders poured their hearts and souls into this. The results are pretty impressive given the price tag and the limits downloadable games can come with.

    Think of it like a budget made Bioware game. You get to explore an interesting world, form relationships with your companions, and the story is affected by your actions. It's just that you aren't going to get the same polish in this RPG as you can find in it's triple-A counterparts. Yet, Spiders put enough good ideas into the game to make it a viable alternative. Especially given the price. They even did a good job of making it where there's no "good" or morally "right" and "wrong" conclusion to the game. The game's ending falls into morally grey territory.

    While it does have some glitches, the biggest issues with the game lie in the combat department. You can tell Spiders was trying to go for a more realistic approach to fighting your enemies. Really trying to make it feel like a fight for survival. You have to carefully juggle your attackers. For the most part they succeeded, but it can be too rigid and awkward for it's own good at times. Particularly when fighting larger groups of enemies. With limited supplies and the useless companion AI you can be overwhelmed by groups larger than three in ways that feel unfair. Playing the game on it's higher difficulties can be an absolute nightmare that feels impossible.

    Yet, there's still a feeling of success that comes from narrowly making it out of a fight alive. As you progress and level up, new options become available to make combat feel more flexible and easier to manage. The simple, but effective crafting system can also give you an edge. Some things still don't work like they should (you can sometimes still get hit even when using the dodge roll), but for all the combat system's frustrations it can also prove to be a satisfying challenge.

    If you ever find yourself strapped for cash and therefore unable to get the latest big RPG to hit store shelves, but still need to get your genre fix, for the standard asking price of a downloadable game you can get Mars: War Logs. Yeah it's got it's issues, but it still does enough right to make it worth a look for RPG enthusiasts. Particularly if you have a taste for Bioware games.     I was excited prior to the game coming out. Any RPG's that have a good story and provide a chance to learn about and explore a world soundsI was excited prior to the game coming out. Any RPG's that have a good story and provide a chance to learn about and explore a world sounds great.....that was until I played it. It seemed clunky, and fragmented with that 'Been there, done that feeling'. That's not to say it was a bad game but not really one I would have bought if I could go back and do it again. I didn't even finish it so honestly can't tell you if it got better. Go here, do that. Find this. Yes you can collect look to upgrade your clothes, weapons but the game overall didn't do anything to make me keep playing.… Full Review »
