Jun 28, 2011Magic 2012 strikes a big chord with my inner Magic nerd. If you're thirsting for another major round of card-battling wizardry, then the extra cards, fresh play options, and new presentation make it worth diving into this remix.
-
Jun 15, 2011For new and old players alike, this sequel is a superb adaptation of the classic CCG.
-
Jul 8, 2011A must-have for fans of the Magic universe and those to be.
-
Oct 12, 2011While Magic 2012 can be entertaining for those who play online, it really serves more as an expanded training program for anyone who has thought about delving into the real game.
-
Jul 31, 2011Overall, Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 is a definite improvement over Duels of the Planeswalkers from 2009.
-
Jul 11, 2011A great game to introduce yourself to Magic and a worthwhile challenge to experienced players.
-
Jul 11, 2011If you're one of last year's players who has come this far and what you've read hasn't swayed you, stick with last year's edition. It's not obsolete; the decks are different enough that you'll still have fun playing them. If you are intrigued, I say drop the $10 and get going.
-
Jun 30, 2011Sure, the game has some limitations when compared to the real-life hobby, particularly as played by those who've been collecting cards for years, but Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 is a full-featured package that successfully communicates the spirit of this timeless game.
-
Jun 28, 2011The engine of the game hasn't changed, but the chrome is super-polished and new multiplayer modes are great new features.
-
Jun 20, 2011A substantive package for a $10 download. The new additions to the core mechanics make for a diverse and enjoyable experience.
-
Jun 15, 2011Archenemy mode flopping on its face and a few minor balance issues aren't enough to keep me from appreciating Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012. This is a fantastic way to play Magic without eating your entire bank account in the process. Lapsed players like me will have a grand time messing around with some of the newer cards and mechanics, particularly in online play against other humans. If there were more decks and cards, and/or an online league structure to compete in, this could have been a true gem. As it is, it's fun as a solid, but limited, digital adaptation of one of the definitive tabletop games of our generation.
-
Jun 24, 2011With a deep single-player mode, 10 decks to unlock, and new online modes, you'll get plenty of value from this $10 package.
-
Jun 26, 2011The narrow range of options actually strengthens the game in some respects, as each deck has its own specific play style and strengths, and they all seem balanced.
-
Sep 16, 2011This highly polished new version of Magic The Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers, is a treat to play. It does not offer great depth or much freedom, but gives you a good and balanced taste of what a great game Magic can truly be.
-
Jul 5, 2011Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 is a decent game that may become a nice starting point for beginners. However, the most loyal fans of cards games will be annoyed by the limited customization capabilities of the decks.
-
Jun 28, 2011This is the best Magic game ever in terms of learning curve and tutorials, so it is a perfect way for newcomers to familiarize themselves with the world of Magic cards. But for seasoned Magic players, the game will not offer that much of a challenge.
-
Jun 28, 2011Magic The Gathering - Duels Of The Planeswalkers 2012 is a good reduction of the card game, despite many limitations in the customization of the deck. The experts of Magic The Gathering may find it too limited, but it's a fun and enjoyable game.
-
Jun 23, 2011Ideal for beginners and intermediate, but probably not advanced.
-
Jun 20, 2011Quotation forthcoming.
-
Jun 25, 2011Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 offers fast, fun games of Magic: the Gathering, but is hampered by a less-than-ideal control scheme and limited deck building.
-
Jun 22, 2011For the experienced players, the game will likely bore you to tears and there's a chance you'll only see the glaring omissions and interface annoyances. I know I did, and I know I will never play this game again if I can help it. But I also know I'm not the audience for this game, and I simply have to accept that.

X-ONE Magazine UKAug 19, 2011If you put in the time, or if you're already proficient with the rules and ways of Magic, there's a lot of fun to be had. [Issue#75, p.101]
-
Jun 27, 2011Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 is indeed an enhanced version of the previous one, but it still holds the same shortcomings. Two in particular are particularly displeasing : no way to personally manage your mana, and no way to create your own decks with the cards of this edition. It still is an affordable and fun way to start playing Magic : The Gathering, or to enjoy casually a game or two once in a while against human players through the internet, despite its limited card collection and the two aforementioned flaws.
-
Jul 4, 2011Archenemy is a neat concept, but one which doesn't quite come off due to balance issues. So while DotP 2012 will provide an engaging distraction, it's unlikely to hold you spellbound.
