The quintessential Halo experience, somehow without Master Chief. Honestly, I beat Halo 3 on Heroic, played the multi-player for a couple of weeks and forgot about it. With Reach, I love the characters and the story (a first for the Halo series, I don't even remember what happened in 2 or 3), the graphics and controls are top notch and the enemy AI and combat design has been perfected to what makes Halo...well, Halo. The rock paper scissors of Weapon vs. Melee vs. Grenade makes the multi-player combat infinitely fun, and of course the awesome vehicles are just icing on the cake.

The only complaint I have is, there aren't enough Invasion maps! I didn't care for this mode at all during the beta, but after getting into BF:BC2 heavily earlier this year, it's now become my new favorite MP mode. Fortunately the Noble Map Pack (coming out soon!) has at least one new invasion level, though hopefully two of them can be played as such.

Great job Bungie! It's nice to see them leave the series at it's peak, I don't really know how 343 Industries can top Reach, but I hope they can at least come up with something as compelling.

I love this game. It's the Halo ive been waiting for. I liked the plot, especially the set pieces, and the multiplayer is awesome. Forge and Firefight are pro and the entire system has been changed for the better.

The final Halo game from Bungie is a marked improved over their previous efforts. With an engaging campaign and an incredibly polished suite of multiplayer game modes, Bungie has created the most polished Halo title to date. Any fan of the FPS genre who owns a 360 should give this game a shot.

To say Halo: Reach lives up to expectations would be a dramatic understatement. It exceeds them. I thought Halo 3 was a relatively packed and deep game, but Reach has the kind of customization options and variables that change the game going for it, that it's almost like playing a PC game with access to mods. You can do anything, you can change anything, you can build anything. Seeing that one of the developers made Pinnacle/Ascension from Halo 2 with the Forge World tools is impressive, but seeing the active community make The Pit, Hang 'Em High, Beaver Creek, other remade maps, and some mind-blowing original maps...it's astounding. Forge in Halo 3 was good, but there needed to be an excessive amount of time and a certain level of creative thinking to do something with it. Forge World on the other hand, is a brilliant canvas that can bring any of your ideas for a map to life without having to try too hard.

Bungie makes Halo games to be played for years on end. That is literally the design goal for them. That goal has been achieved with every main series entry of Halo, and people will be playing Reach a long time from now. On the first day alone, 9 million games were played online. The changes to the ranking system allows players to enjoy the game and keep playing no matter what playlist or mode they are active in. The Commendations give those extra little goals to strive for, and the Challenges, weekly and daily, give players a reason to check in on the game whenever they can and always have something new to do. It's all the little things that count in making the online experience much deeper. Things like the Active Roster, things like being able to take three friends online with me for the ride, and things like sending out a Hologram that someone shoots at for three seconds before he realizes he's made an oops, and then I come behind him with my shotgun and deliver my fantastic chiropractic abilities at the end of the barrel.

The campaign is great. Personally, I expected a bit more based around the events of the Fall of Reach, but what we got was good. Reach tells a story of war, and the sacrifice that comes with it. It starts out feeling very cookie cutter to be honest, but as it progresses, the overlying feeling of intensity increases. The set pieces aren't as epic as people who played the original trilogy may be used to. I remember so many moments from the campaigns in Combat Evolved, Halo 2, and Halo 3, and the only real lasting memories of Reach's campaign are the space battle (which was like another game in itself) and the ending. The last half of that campaign is gripping. The way it closes out is touching.

But as always, what makes Halo above and beyond many other games and the king of it's genre, is the gameplay. The foundation Bungie struck gold with, a fusion of traditional shooter elements fighting over map control and fixed weapon spawns, combined with the unique weapons, physics, vehicles, map design, and new armor abilities. All the fixes the game needed from the beta have been made. Reach is every bit as accessible as the past Halo games. Bungie loads this game up with so much content. There is something for everyone if you are willing to take the time to find it, and everything for someone open-minded enough to appreciate quality game design. All of the new modes are fun. Team Stockpile and Team Headhunter is surprisingly intense and enjoyable. The new Arena playlist is groundbreaking and a genius idea. They have taken Halo, taken a few little qualities from other series and fused them without compromising the core of the game and the roots it was built upon. Halo: Reach is a fantastic example of how to keep something going. It isn't a franchise, it's a phenomenon.

Multiplayer, well it has been revamped completely with the addition of the new armour abilities that make an impact on the battlefield, the game modes however have stayed relatively the same with the exception of the new playlist arena which is Reach's take on MLG. Overall the credit system and ranking up will keep you entertained with the multiplayer for hours on end, the credit system is Reach's currency you use it ti buy things uch as new armour or armour effects and with the challenges which are updated daily and weekly will keep you playing more and more of the game it will even get you playing modes that you don't normally play.

Forge, a welcome return back to the Halo universe with the community already teaming with spectacular inventions that are available to view and download via the file share community. The tools are a lot more professional allowing you to do a lot of crazy things and build some really good maps and with the addition of Forge World you can go in with friends build and have a laugh with this massive map 9/10.

Graphics have changed drastically showing off a more realistic and retro styled Halo which fits seeing as it is a prequel, the sound is good and the face cap is brilliant along with the environment graphics, Reach is the one of the few games I have seen where they have captured dropping rain so perfectly 10/10

This is why I have chosen to give this game a 6, The multiplayer is terrible if not broken. Armor abilities were a good Idea on paper however Armor lock just slows down gameplay, and gives unfair advantage to the person using it (as long as their teammates are somewhat competent). And bloom, a mechanic I thought would benefit the series, has instead shamed it. Rarely do I win a medium range fight when I am pacing my shots, and the other person is firing fast with the DMR. this change in what I've come to know as Halo multiplayer (I played Halo 2 and 3 online) is not good, and in the end just demolishes the competitive side of the game.

The campaign in really good, with lots of diversity in missions. Firefight is back, and Forge has been overhauled so you can make some very imaginative maps in the Forge World. Also you can get ranks and XP offline as well. There's massive character customisation too. If you can imagine changing your spartan or elite, you can do it, and you have to buy these things with XP.

The graphics didn't come across as spectacular, but I was playing on a 46" HDTV so any visual flaws were probably heightened. Also I felt we could have done with some more MP maps, there aren't very many at the moment, and they are all bits from the campaign. Not as interesting as Halo 3's maps. Hope DLCs are on the way.

I know that sounds ridiculous, but hear me out; Bungie has purposefully given Noble 6 (the player character) no personality of his own, because they want the player to have the impression that they are Noble 6. For this same reason Six's armour is fully customisable, as is his or her gender. One of the best things about the original Halo games was assumming the guise of the Master Chief - the invincible super soldier who always says the most badass things possible at the most oppurtune moments. In Reach, the only person you assume the guise of is yourself - a basically unremarkable gamer with no particularly interesting qualities one way or the other. In fact even if you do have interesting qualities, the time at which they are least on display is when you're sat in front of your games console pretending to be someone more interesting. This basic element in the structure of the game is what killed the campaign for me - the last levels were still pretty good, mostly for nostalgia value, but overall I found the whole ordeal quite underwhelming. I gave Reach an 8 because of everything but its campaign, which is where the -2 comes from. Everything but the campaign is gold. Pure gold. Expand
