I love Game of Thrones and I've loved some of the Telltale "games" but I'm starting to realize more and more that this is just an interactive story and less of an even "choose your own adventure" and definitely not a game. 90% of the choices and decisions you make don't matter. After 1 second play through, after making different decisions, in both chapters, for all characters.. the story plays out the same. Examples? At the beginning when after a fight with a rival sellswords, after running out of the pub I have an option to grab my supposed payment. I played before, so I know the sellswords ripped me off, so I left it on the table. My partner grabbed and opened it anyways. As Roderick, clinging to life in a cart full of Forrester dead, I choose to do NOTHING. Guess what? I fall out of the cart and my family finds me, LOL. Telltale wants you to feel like you are making important decisions but the story is painfully linear. The Forresters are a replacement for the Starks that we can play in the brutal world of Westeros, but it would be nice if we could avoid some of the nasty fates of the Stark clan. Maybe in episode 1 I could save young Lord Ethan to see his older brother return and regain control of the house. Nope. Ethan dies no matter what choices you make. Wouldn't it be cool if it was difficult, but you COULD keep all of the family members alive by the end of the game so they could see vengeance on the Whitehill clan (the exact opposite of the Starks who we could just watch die one by one) It's really a shame and hurts the replay value. I like the story and will play it through, but I won't replay anymore chapters. It's a waste of time.
Other nitpicks. Though the background art-style is beautiful, when applied to the characters it looks like really terrible anti-aliasing and is distracting... looking like dated graphics. Speaking of dated. The animations, in this day and age, are pretty wooden and dated too. Telltale, with all of this money they are making, needs to pay for some motion capture. After playing games like Assassin's Creed and Dragon Age, the animation is sub par... on a game that basically an interactive movie it should be better. This chapter was short and there were only a handful of explore areas. Those ares were brief, small, and mostly pointless with nothing added to the story, except for the training at Castle Black. But, you know, if I failed at that, the story would have found a way for me to become a Range anyways because thats what the story call for. One final nitpick... there is no way to exit the game in the game menu. WTH?!? I have to select a save file and start playing so I can exit to desktop. Pretty shoddy.… Expand
