Rarely do I laugh my way through an entire game but even in the intense action scenes Blood Dragon is still throwing humor out every which way.

The game’s writing is one of the big highlights. The tutorial sections are hilarious, as is the dialog between characters. Rex is constantly spouting insanely cheesy dialog, and it all works really well.

Blood Dragon its a wonderful homage to the Eighties, and a very good variation of one of the best game of the last year. A true must buy for every thirty-something gamer who loves video games, movies and bad jokes.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon's campaign is too short and lacks challenge, but it makes up for those shortcomings with an over-the-top production, hilarious characters and dialogue, and enough fun to leave you asking for more.

It’s a shame the experience is so brief, but because this is an arcade title that only costs fifteen bucks to scoop up, it’s a nice amount of depth and a completely absurd amount of fun. It’s just funny that this may turn out to be one of the better things released this year and it started out as a joke.

It doesn’t make a lot of significant changes to Far Cry 3, outside of streamlining some of the light RPG concepts in favor of something even more action-oriented. And it does a really great job of capturing that kitschy, hyper-stylized wave of 80’s nostalgia that few manage to get outside of the recent Hotline Miami.

If Far Cry 3 was the dinner entree when it released last year, then Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is an ice cream sundae on top of a slice of chocolate cake for dessert. It goes a bit farther than it needs to for some of its parody, but the game's core is as strong as ever wrapped in a love letter to the '80s vision of cool.

It’s a romp through everything we know and love about classic sci-fi movies ranging from the Terminator-inspired world to level designs reminiscent of Aliens, Logan’s Run, and Predator, to references to Running Man, Empire Strikes Back, and Rocky. More than that, it’s a romp through everything we know and love about Far Cry ranging from it’s piggybacking off of the amazing Far Cry 3 gameplay and mechanics to it’s complete reimagining of the first Far Cry’s high-potential yet ultimately low-quality…everything. Blood Dragon manages to shine where the other games have not, and could not: it’s sense of humor. Dozens of times throughout I found myself laughing out loud, occasionally spitting out my drink or even laughing to tears. The AI voice communicating with our protagonist as well as the AI voice heard over enemy base loud speakers was nothing short of spectacular, entertaining in the best ways and I find myself wanting to start the game all over just to make sure I pick up on every word she says. Beyond her, the tutorials and the loading screens are an equal pleasure to experience as they not only keep your eyes on the screen, but keep you having fun which is the entire point of this spin-off. I reached 100% completion and collected all achievements (aside from the “headshot” one which I’ll have to go back through the campaign again to get) in under 5 hours. The game is far from hard but it’s never too easy to the point that I felt bored. Once I got the over-powered final weapon, I could make enemies explode just by looking at them (almost) and even then, I still had unadulterated fun. Basically, I can recommend Blood Dragon enough. The only downside I can think of is that the VHS-filter on your screen at all times may give you a headache as it started to get a little old for me but it certainly didn’t stop me from playing this game way too late into the night. Blood Dragon, like Far Cry 3, cannot be passed up on. Play, and play again. Expand

Best weapons ever and the story line dumb as hell. I see a lot people complaining about the game deepness, duration, etc in front of FC3. Hey guy this is a 15$ title! 1/4 of FC3 price. Just be logic. It definitely worth more than 15$. Expand

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME IF YOU WERE NOT BORN IN THE 70'S OR 80'S. You might be able to get by if you were born in the early 90's, but this game makes a ton of references to many 80's action movies. And it is glorious. The FarCry 3 engine feels as great as ever. You start off with a ton of upgrades from the original FarCry 3 (like double jumping takedowns, etc), so right off the bat you feel capable. Throw in 4 extremely powerful weapons and the game does an amazing job of making you feel like a futuristic badass cyborg. The game is extremely corny which in turn makes it extremely funny. I know the game isn't suppose to last too long (from what I've heard, it can take around 6 hours), but in all fairness I paid the same price for Journey. And in both cases, I think both these games are absolutely worth it. Besides, why wouldn't you want to kill a laser eye firing dragon? Expand

It is set in a neon future were a rogue General has taken over an island and you must stop him. You play as Rex Power Colt, a cyborg tasks to take down this threat. The story is basic but the writing and characters are hilarious and make fun of action game troughs. The game play is very similar to Far Cry 3, you liberate garrisons and complete missions. The open world is actually quite large and filled with stuff to do. The weapons are unique and varied enough to keep combat interesting. The game's length feels just right for its DLC, downloadable price. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a cool, hilarious, and fun add on to Far Cry 3 and is a prime example of how to do a franchise spin off well. Expand

Everything about this screams cheap cash-in the only new model is the blood dragon, which wouldn't look out of place on the N64, everything else is hastily retextured or not at all, the bargain bin voice acting attempts (sounds like Michael Biehn just read down a list of a few dozen phrases in a 10 minutes take with no direction). The writing features an ambiguously consensual 'no means yes?' sex scene that might be most catastrophic failure of taste I've ever seen in a game outside of Japan. All of the weird interface from FC3 is still here too, unpatched, and the game will acknowledge that it sucks while mocking you for getting frustrated.

Even for when this goes under $5, you'll still be giving your money to for a visciously unfun 6 hours.
