Nov 2, 2012Unfortunately, those moments are few and far between. Fable: The Journey doesn't make good use of the Kinect hardware, and the results are less then magical.
-
Oct 24, 2012Fable: The Journey is a game that made me wish everything would go on without my active participation. The new tale from Lionhead has some charm thanks to nice characters, pretty graphics and safe, but funny jokes. You're a Kinect owner and want something new? You could give The Journey a chance, but if you're anybody else - a gamer in need of getting to know the next installment of this famous series, you should watch a playthrough on YouTube. If you make some awkward gestures, it'll be mostly the same, but for free.
-
Oct 9, 2012The story even has a few emotional beats that work surprisingly well (though the jokes are uniformly lame)...But all of it, every moment, is utterly smothered by the technology used to control it.
-
Nov 6, 2012Good dialog, story and that charming tongue-in-cheek Fable-feel does not alleviate horribly unresponsive game mechanic and an arm as well as mind numbing experience. Only for the die-hard Fable fan or those infatuated with driving horse and carriage.
-
Oct 27, 2012Lionhead tried to use the Kinect controls in an unconventional way, and succeeds in doing that. You'll spend a lot of time grooming and taking care of your horse, the one installment which kind of works. But with broken controls and mediocre graphics The Journey ends up a disappointing addition to the Fable series.
-
Oct 16, 2012Some of the old strengths are on display here, though. The characters are likeable, the world is still a sight to behold … But playing the stuff that normally gets visualized by a loading screen is hardly an exciting proposition. Fable: The Journey started out as a lie and now ends as an utter disappointment. What a waste of Lionhead's considerable talents.
-
Oct 11, 2012The world around you is interesting and begging to be explored, but your movement is on rails so you can't do anything about it. Pick any complaint you might have about Kinect games - they feel like tech demos, they're unresponsive, they're repetitive - and Fable: The Journey is guilty of it.
-
Oct 9, 2012The Journey wants so desperately to impress you, but it can only ever ruin your day.
-
Oct 10, 2012A more noble failure than most Kinect games, but a failure all the same. And even beneath the control issues not a particularly good on-the-rails shooter.
-
Oct 9, 2012Fable: The Journey is just a jumbled bunch of nonsense. I believe the intentions for making this game were good as far as the Kinect technology, but the poor controls coupled with the weak storyline really hurt this title.
-
Oct 9, 2012Due to the unresponsive controls, you're going to have a lot of frustrating moments where you'll want to throw a controller against the wall - only you are the controller, which could end pretty badly for yourself. When it comes to these portions (which is easily half, if not more of the game) I hope you really like horses, as you're going to be spending a lot of time grooming, petting, and tending to it. You could even say that part of the game feels like an XBLA sequel to Kinectimals.
