What a great game. Very well done I must say Lionhead Studios. Loadtimes are the one reason that I knock this to a 9 instead of a 10. They are often and are a wait. Big downfall. Other 2 minor aspects that were bad for me: way to small variation of clothing. Like 7 pairs in total? And there is no armor which totally sucks. And of course other small things. Aside from the bad aspects though, the game was great don't get me wrong. The story was great, gameplay was exciting and fun. Just needed to make it bigggggggggggggggggger. The world seemed small. So far though in all honesty it's my Game Of The Year. Let's see how Fallout 3, LBP & Gears Of War 2 are first. But it's in 1st so far. Very worthy buy. Love and enjoy. Expand

Excellent game. my family will be playing this for ages. Thumbs up to Molyneaux for expanding the RPG universe. Truly makes you care - goes from fun to annoyance - some people make you want to smack them over and over! - to yes, missing that dog when he wanders off. Oblivion was cardboard compared to this. One gripe - the mao is too small.

    LULZ THIS GAME SUCKS!!!

Oh wait, no it doesn't. Who cares if you can't customize your character the same as in the first one? Big fucking deal. So much of the game is amazing: the art style, combat, the story, and more. Sure the dog and other aspects of the game aren't as revelatory as they were supposed to be, but have you come to expect anything else from Peter Molynux?

The inclusion of the guns and different rates of fire was nice, while also keeping the weapons simple and fluid at the same time. The combat's great, and you have to work to get that ridiculously overpowered spell. The story was really good, and while no mass effect, it was definitely worth experiencing. While co-op is nice, it's way too limited, which has been improved on in the third game, though its still too easy. But all-in-all, this is a brilliant game that you should definitely pick up ahead of the other two fables, with the only bad points being it's quite easy, the co-op is limited. Expand

If some people couldactually pay attention to the good parts of it than they would most likely love it. I do agree though, some parts of the game do confuse me and upset me. I had no idea how many glitches there were in this game and how badly they could affect your Xbox 360 system. I had only found this out while trying to solve the single glitch I had gotten so far-In the Love Hurts Quest When I try to give the man the lower body part he only stands there mindlessly- and I was completely gratefull that I hadn'tgotten the game ending glitches like the Rescuing Charlie quest. I do also agree that the game should have been released later and that they should of double checked for all the glitches, because for most people they are very annoying and ruin game experiance. It is blood boiling to know that they took years to make this game when it is below the standards of most Fable fans and that they had the longest time given to of looked for the flaws and they never took the time to fix them. Also, it was very short. Truthfully, it is the first game that I have ever truelly beaten by myself, without using cheats or making my brothers do part of it for me, which declares it as very easy. Another thing that bugs me is the lack of clothes and hairstyles in the game, and how I always seem to look fat when the fat level says zero and the fact that I have level 2 phisice ( or however you spell it ). They say that there is endless possiblities and that It would surprise them to see two different heros look the same when i highly disagree with that. I bet that if every player of Fable 2 posted how their character looked online there would be triplets and up for every perosn's character. I also wish that there was a map avalible in Fable 2, since the golden trail isn't always very dependent. After reading all the bad things about this game it is hard to give it an 8, but even through it's flaws I would most definetly choose it over Oblivion. It amazes me also that so many people think that Oblivion is better than Fable 2 by a landslide when I personally hate the graphics-the faces of the people in Oblivion look inhuman and the quests are a waste of time. I have never played the origanal Fable, and now I plan to soon. Lastly, it confuses me that they are may start working on Fable 3, even through all the negative comments. The strange thing is that even though Im confused, I still cant wait for it. Expand

Fable 2 DOES indeed fill a great and many of what was missing in Fable 1, but does that make it a great game.....well yeah, of course. graphically, if reminds me alot of Fable 1 just with the HD treatment and a much larger world, which all-in-all looks fantastic, colorful and very lively looking.....it simply pops off your screen and the lighting is the only MAJOR upgrade i noticed. music is top-notch and soundeffects ring loud and clear. Now the gameplay, this is where things get iffy depending on the gamer.....the controls in Fable 2 are VERY user-friendly, there is NOTHING complex about its gameplay....most of what you do is controlled by the use of single buttons which makes for a very accessible game and thats good or bad depending on how dumbed down you like your gameplay. The more traidtional RPG players and fans of games like Elder Scrolls Oblivion will probably play this and think its a little TOO basic and lacking depth, but for what its worth....the controls are spot-on. Luckily my wife is thoroughly enjoying Fable 2 so I can combine her gaming with mine to form an opinion. The combat, although sounding simplistic, is a good blend and once you get the hang of it you'll be fighting with heaps of flourish. The emotion system is ok - I'd prefer the traditional speech approach but my wife loves the emotional responses. The story is quite well done. The dog is great. I guess my main problem with it is that loading times can be slightly annoying - when you go from one area to the next it does take a while. This may be allievated slightly when the new dash update comes out on the 360 which supposedly allows you to copy an entire game to the hard drive - this should speed things up. It feels a little restrictive in where you can go - jumping some walls tends to be a problem. You can marry (either straight or gay) which is a nice touch. It is a nice game to look at but not nearly as nice as say, Far Cry 2, nor Fallout 3 from what I've seen of that so far. It is a sweet rpg - some adult themes involved but overall going to be much more family friendly than Fallout 3. If it had less loading times and a bit more dialogue it could have been better. I guess the main reason (apart from those listed) that it gets an 8 is that the much hyped co-op mode is a big let down (both offline and the patched online on release) - I can understand why they used a henchman system but it would have been better to scale your own hero (if level scaling was the reason they decided on the henchmen idea in the first place). Do not buy this game for the co-op. Henchmen can't do half the stuff the hero can do and the camera is terrible (you have to stay in the same vicinity even via xbox live). So a decent effort but make sure you buy it for the single player experience. Expand

While this game is not as great as it could have been its not horrible either. It's a pretty good RPG and I have enjoyed playing through the story on single player. The co-op leaves much to be desired and could perhaps be fixed with a future patch. Otherwise, still worth taking a look at but I can't reccommend a purchase.

Oblivion has to be mentioned, for it's the only real competition (though they're both wholly different) fable has in terms of a western RPG on the 360, and it does seem to draw a few influences from that. It may even surpass it in AI, but overall Itstill falls slightly short of it. Sure, it's fairly linear and the gameplay can become pretty simple, but it's still a very well-designed adventure. This game is better then fable 3. The story while still am easy ride, is better then Fable 3's. It's also shorter. The combat isn't as easy and you will probably be knocked out at least once in your first play-through. However the real fun comes in with playing with your morality bars, and controlling real estate. I recommend this cheaper title over it's successor.

Fable II was released in 2008, exclusively on the Xbox 360. It is for this reason I didn’t get to play this fantastic game until now. 14 years later, but my god… it was worth the wait.

    Story:
Fable II takes place more than 500 years after the first entry. You play as Sparrow, a boy/girl that suffers from severe dysfunctional bone growth, resulting in a very weird looking male character model. You and your sister get shot in the face by the villain for being a potential hero, and after breaking every bone in your body (which subtlety explains the disfigured character model) you grow up to be the potential hero… or a greedy murderer. The choice is completely up to you, the player.

    Gameplay:
Much like the first game, Fable II is a third-person action game. Your path of quests is mostly set in stone, though sometimes the path diverges into two ways. Your choice can have a permanent effect on Albion, though mostly on the gossip by villagers. No wonder my blade keeps slitting their throats accidentally… You can invest your experience points into physical, skill-based or magical upgrades. These upgrades will determine physical changes, but also new abilities and improving on existing ones.

But as a hero, presentation is of great importance in Albion. You can make your hero as attractive as possible, or make him drink beer, eat red meat and pie until this obese monstrosity is mocked by everyone. Imagine being saved by an overweight, vulgar, poorly dressed, demon spawn that flips you off. In Fable II, that is possible! If you calibrate it right, it is even possible to operate in a morally grey area. Oh, and you got a dog that tells you were the treasure is. It saves a lot of time in comparison to Fable: The Lost Chapters.

    Graphics:
Fable II came out in 2008, so these graphics have aged a lot… or so you would think! The environmental graphics are downright ancient by now, but the character models still look good, and animations still hold up. In fact, modern Bethesda games look like a hobo favela compared to Fable II…

A very entertaining game, but there are some flaws. Time passes quickly while travelling, and in Fable II time is money. Your spouse needs constant upkeep (even if he/she is unemployed yet is perfectly able to get a job) and relationships can deteriorate quickly, leading to divorce. My advice, don’t get married in Fable II. They just became bloodsuckers squeezing you for money and sex every five minutes. Also, walking up and down every region becomes a bit repetitive at times. Fable II is an excellent game, i give it a 8/10.

After years of not touching this game (having given it to a friend who decided to hang onto it forever), I decided to re-download a game I remember loving when I was younger in order to see if it holds up. I was thrilled to find that it did, in fact, hold up over time (for me, at least), despite having played through it several times.

As a young teenager, I remember being overwhelmed by how incredible the first Fable game seemed at first glance. After playing it, I was still just as giddy. Unfortunately, however, the experience of playing the first Fable game waned as I tried to play it again. Fable 2, on the other hand, managed to do so much of what the first game did, but added a much greater emphasis on role-playing (by doing away with armour values on equipped gear, for example). And while few things will ever match how I felt the first time I played the first Fable game in the series, Fable 2 maintains the humour and world of its predecessor while adding so much that allows the game a ton of longevity.

The fact that almost every piece of armour in the game can be dyed a massive variety of colours is simply fantastic. While I do think there is something to be desired in terms of the range of clothing available (no suits of armour are present outside of the DLC), there is a sizeable variety of clothing options, and this is very nice.

The weapon variety matches that of prior games - while one weapon tier has been removed, the addition of multiple guns is a wonderful touch that suits the passage of time since the first game well. There are also plenty of interesting legendary weapons to be found, and using something you might prefer for aesthetic reasons will not damn you to being wrecked by any enemy. On the contrary, this game is rather easy - however, the game's ease does not detract form its quality, in my mind.

In terms of the story, the interesting characters and very British humour spice up its good-but-not-great narrative. Characters like Hammer, Reaver (especially Reaver, come to think of it) and your dog (I lied, ESPECIALLY your dog) really bring an otherwise somewhat predictable plot to life. Also, the dog is wonderful. While he doesn't exactly function perfectly (nor does the breadcrumb trailer meant to guide your character to various locations, if I recall correctly), his mere presence is wonderful in an indescribable way. Also also, hitting things is fun! So is shooting them with guns, or blowing them up with magic!

There really isn't too much else that I can say here that isn't praise - the series' signature sense of humour is on full display here, what with the hilarious insults the gargoyles (one of the game's collectibles) spew at you and the various murmurs of the townsfolk. I will say, however, that a character maxed out in Strength character looks a bit like a muppet, and that is a bit disturbing. I will say that the game is not overly complex or difficult. However, it is a great time.

If you have never played a Fable game, but have a taste for action RPGs and Monty Python, go play this one. I feel the first game is too dated (despite being excellent), and its sequel is far too linear. This game toes the line perfectly, and while some of its mechanics are a little clunky by today's standards (especially in the beginning parts of the game), it will still be a charming experience.

Every location feels grand and lush. From the fields of oakfield to the city of bowerstone; Lionhead paid great attention to the detail of areas in Fable 2 and Albion has never looked better.

The story is set a whopping 500 years after the events of the first game. Much has changed and if you've played fable 1 you'll enjoy seeing Albion in a new light. To stay spoiler free I will not be sharing many story details. That being said, in terms of story Fable 2 takes a step down from 1 in my opinion. The main villain in 1, Jack of blades was phenomenal, and his performance wasn't topped in 2. The story is in no way bad, it's very enjoyable and full of amazing moments, unfortunately it doesn't compare to 1.

Weapons such as rifles and blunderbusses was introduced in Fable 2. No surprise considering the massive jump in time period. The weapons do not ruin gameplay, but compared to the swords and bows of 1, it just isn't as fun. I find it much easier to sit back and spam the ranged weapons instead of getting in with the swords.

Fable 2 was a great sequel to Fable 1 and built off the ideas of 1 and made them better. But the story in 2 compared to 1 doesn't equal.

Lack of cutscenes means the game has a different atmosphere to Fable 1, which is sad because the atmosphere in Fable 1 was one of the main things that made it stand out from other RPGs. The jobs are pretty cool, havent tried co-op yet but that looks good. The new spell system sucks. The guns rock. No fist fighting? WTF??? Where are the pub brawls and the utilisation of the environment during combat that i was expecting? Being a woman looks cool and there is a good replayability factor. Where is the fucking minimap? The breadcrumb trail is more constricting than the minimap because i always follow it sub-consciously! The game was entertaining and engaging, but it was over very quickly and was did not have the level of immersion and depth expected. There was no armor in the game :(, only clothing. Yes this game has a LOT of good things about it, brilliantly implemented design techniques such as the dog and the way you socially interact with the villagers and not to mention a soundtrack that will blow away any other rival rpg soundtrack (keep it coming Danny and Russell). However, the world just doesn't feel the same as the first fable, maybe because it is 500 years down the track but I think that's not the main reason. Combat is extremely satisfying, however after a short while, every battle just seems to be a pointless struggle for experience, which you don't need. It isn't challenging enough while trying to kill the mobs and even the boss' are a blow over. It's a game that gives the player endless opportunities to do many different things, however too many of these things are optional, some only offering an emotional reward, 'love', Maybe Fable 3 will be different, I just hope that it isn't again, 500 years down the track maybe push it back 1000 years, that would be interesting. Never has a game, in thirty years of playing them, left me feeling more disappointed than this one. It could and should have been great, especially seeing as it is more Fable 1.5 than a true successor. Where was all that development time spent?

It's not so much that this game has potential, it reached extremely well everything that they wanted to do to make it a unique and entertaining, it's just that they forgot to flesh out a story for your hero. A big plus was the "Sims interaction" approach with all the npcs. It certainly doesn't feel like your hero is the loneliest person on the planet any more. The combat starts off annoying due to the button mashing, but after leveling up your not having to hit the same ol' button (too much anyway). The use of a gun and the ability granted to shoot the body, head (always go for the head) or the weapon was a nice unique feature that you can't even find in today's shooters. And even though they went with caricatures of a 2-D style, the game's artwork and graphics were stunning. Probably one of the best looking RPG's I've played to date (and this game is three years old at this point) because of the artists strong attention to detail they give this game. After reading other reviews, I keep seeing the words "for the experience", and, yes, I agree. I recommend this above else for the experience of what Lionhead has created. But the sad parts are, for one, you are stuck on paths and have very little room to explore the world that was created. And the mapping system left me seriously disorientated to where I was at in the relationship to the continent? country? world? of Albion. Which is how I think this game comes off; disorientating yet worth getting lost into. Even if it's for the short duration of its plot line. Expand

The highly anticipated Fable 2. I enjoyed Fable 1 so much. it was awesome. I had such high hope. But I've got to be honest. For me it just didn't deliver. There's so many bugs and the most annoying thing of all is the low FPS while executing jobs and cycling through menus. The story is one-dimensional and the characters are never developed. The side aspects of the game (a variety of jobs, marrying, having a family) are shallow and there is not much point (other than money) to spend any time at them. Getting married is the most uninteresting as every man and woman are pretty much the same. The only information given are their names and moderately useful facts about them. The game is too short and the final boss is underwhelming. Still, I would be lying if I said that I didn't enjoy playing it. There are lots of secrets and plenty of loot to keep players interested. The combat is fast and satisfying. The world is wider and more accessible although Albion never feels as alive or as vibrant as Cyrodil from Oblivion or Hyrule from Legend of Zelda. The Fable series, though entertaining, has many problems at its core and has yet to reach the upper echelons of western RPG's. Expand

However that's what I liked about the original game, running around in Union Jack boxers beating up guards with a stick, it was funny. I feel that a lot of the humour was lost in this game. Unfortunately it doesn't replace the humour with a more solid storyline, that is, unless you're playing as the good guy. I always feel that Fable would have benefitted if instead of calling you Evil when you were getting up to mischief, they called you a "bit of an a**hole who still gets the job done" because there was a point in the game when I was standing head and shoulders above Theresa wearing a dark trench coat and a pirate hat and I felt like I was being told off by my mother. In Fable this would have been funny but the sequel just didn't quite pull it off. Still a very fun game, pity they never bothered releasing it for PC. Expand

The main downfall with Fable 2 is, in my opinion, the fact that it is a victim of it's own success. Fable: The Lost Chapters was stunning, but Fable 2 was far less impressive. However, it was, by any stretch of the mind, a worthwhile game for the franchise.

The story, I personally found, was slightly deeper and more innovative than the original, with three heroes who must come together to defeat the current ruler of Albion. The game takes place in what appears to be around the 1700's. The regions are far more expansive than it's predecessor, and there is a lot more to collect and do, but the combat is not so great. Every time you get knocked down, you simply get up again like it was nothing, and lose any experience you dropped. This removes any specific challenge within the game, and makes it almost insulting to fans of the previous game. There are still legendary weapons, lots of property to buy, lots of dig spots, gambling, and a new feature to the series; jobs. You will earn money by activating the job at one of the work points, and then playing a minigame, which can get slightly repetitive after a while, but is good to make a little extra on the top. Property can still be purchased, and on occasion, is mandatory for specific quests and items.

There isn't much more to say about this game. Just think Fable with less challenge, more collectibles, bigger regions, new characters, new story, new experience system, and you have Fable 2. Not perfect, but not terrible.

I admit the world (well most of it) is built to RPG standards, there are a few linear bits, but the towns are great places to spend time but it's all for no reason. Plus, you can kill like 209742974 enemies easy. I like how you can turn safe mode on and off, that keeps you from messing up too much in town. There isn't a very big spell list on the game, and You can only use 1 spell at a time, because it takes too long to switch spells. Easy to fall in love/marry. Too easy, I thought the adult content to it was kinda funny, condoms? lol... but there could of been alot of work added to it. Found some glitches, like little kids talking, about the same thing... over, and over, and over.... Not very new monsters... I do like how your decisions change everything in the future for you. It isn't fun going to the menu every second for something, (the hotkey function in Fable1 isn't on this one for the D-pad use) kinda a pain in the .... I wish the dog would like, attack things, instead of bark. The co-op should of let the other player play as a real character rather then a henchman. There were less melee weapons this time, and no great sword either. Money is too easy to get. The leveling in abilities was kinda rediculous tho, first you get 1 level of a spell for 600, then later 2300, then later 12000? kinda a big jump eh? You will beat the game before your max in power, but you don't really need all that power to beat the game tho. (cuse you never really die) I was expecting a 9/10 with this game, but was dissapointed in a way. People rating this 10/10 must be crazy, and these people rating under 4 must be children with no sense. As much as I want to give this game a 10, it just isn't a 10 rating game. Hoping for a Fable 3 though, with... improvements due to everyone's responses... Also one more thing, the territory isn't very vast, and you really can't travel everywhere too much. I love the ability to jump off some ledges, but can't we get the ability to jump when we want? lol... hard to find RPGs where you can simply... jump... even kids jump. More monsters, less lagg, more armor, more weapons, more spells, more landscape to travel, more difficulty, more story, better co-op. Thanks! Expand

It doesn't really feel like you're doing anything usefull or fun, trying to get one o the onlookers to accept your engagement ring. It's just not rewarding. Neither are the minigames that make you money. Yes you'll get cash, but do I really want to sit through endless button mashing for that? I found a lack of a decent mapping system very annoying. You can only see a small area map in the menu, only shows your current 'zone'. There is no accessable world map. This means that it all depends on either trial and error OR flipping on the stupid light-up-trail OR the instant travel.Neither of these options are particulary fun. 1. Fable II is everything Molyneux promised the first time around. It's funny, deep, emotional, epic, and, yes, wildly charming. We are already eager for a second playthrough, and we're betting a lot of you will have exactly the same reaction. [Dec 2008, p.68]

It’s a game that builds gradually and then becomes irresistible, a beautiful lump of an RPG that continues beyond the close of its main campaign, and will have you thinking about it when you’re not at your 360. [Dec 2008, p.79]
  3. The combat handles well, it’s visually stunning, the voice acting and musical score are brilliant, and the epic storyline doesn’t end before it begins (like the first game did). But the most appealing thing about it is that it delivers everything that Molyneux has promised, plus it is oozing with wit and charm - something sorely lacking from many games nowadays. At the end of the day, Fable II is a triumph and a must buy.
