Crysis is finally on consoles but does it live up to it's PC counterparts? Yes and no. There's no multiplayer, but it's not priced as a whole game so that's not too disappointing. The combat is fun, but I found myself running out of ammo often and having to rely on meleeing enemies to death, which was actually quite fun when you use the stealth feature. For $30 though, you can't really complain. It's still more fun than most FPS on the market, and it definitely is better than Crysis 2. Expand

I'm able to do things in this version I couldn't do in the PC version because of the instant powers -- it just makes the gameplay smoother. The visuals aren't as good as the PC version running on High, but they're spectacular for a console game. The only real flaw with this version are some technical issues that distract slightly from the fun -- texture pop-in, lower draw distance. But don't believe the negativity... this is one of the best shooters ever made, and for $20, this is a steal. Just don't expect multiplayer. :P Expand

It's Crysis, the real Crysis, but on consoles. Not sure what more people could want? It's missing a level, but it's a pretty bad one involving a VTOL so no one cares, and despite Metacritic saying it has 32 player online... there's 0 player online.

Its unique multiplayer is greatly missed, but no one thought it would be possible anyway. Just getting this to boot on a console is worth

Its unique multiplayer is greatly missed, but no one thought it would be possible anyway. Just getting this to boot on a console is worth donating your $20 to Crytek, but doing so and still retaining everything which made it such a landmark game all those years ago is a true achievement.

Sure the graphics aren't up to the same quality as the PC, but it never feels like a chore to play. Physics are all there, audio and acting is great, vehicles are as destructible as ever, levels are alive with little animals and the world is as destructible as on PC (huts, trees, boxes, vehicles...). It's a strangely rewarding experience entering a wooded area and shredding the forest into progressively smaller pieces with a minigun. Load times are OK, probably because it's running from hard drive, but there is still some very noticeable popup. Again, it's a PC benchmark game on console hardware which is around PC min-medium spec.

A must buy for anyone who wants an epic singleplayer experience, thinks collectables are stupid, laughs at high-pitched screaming Koreans and has been longing for a chicken chucking simulator.

Then I saw a few people giving it 0's and being real uninformed, narrow minded scum bags and I had to chirp in. I loaded this up, and for the first time in my life, after 4 years of waiting and wishing, I was playing Crysis. I'm sky diving out of an airplane and falling toward an island. Then the first mission begins... but I don't jump to it. No, I walk around the sandy beach at night for 20 minutes enjoying my night vision, the moon shining through the palm trees, and the gorgeous water effects as I unload a barrel into the surface. Then I spot a turtle. Oh fancy that, a turtle. I throw the turtle 200 feet into the air and shoot it while it's freefalling. I shoot trees until the trunks snap and they fall gracefully to the earth. I run fast. I walk slow. I do all of this without realizing that I'm still ignoring my objective. This is the point my friends. This is Crysis on a console. Everyone is talking about graphics, and I would think that would have no place here. Do we really expect it to look anywhere near as good on a console? NO. Furthermore, we are gamers and the fun factor is what matters. That's why people will still go back and play the original Mario Bros. It's fun. I just described to you my first 20 minutes with Crysis, and there's still more pointless things I did before running into my objective. The gameplay is great, the controls are tight and responsive, and the graphics are really impressive. This looks better than a lot of full price retail releases that have dropped in the last 2 years. While it's not on the level of Gears 3, or even Crysis 2, it's damn close. At 20 dollars, you can't afford not to get this game. The atmosphere is completely believable. There is wildlife all around the island (for you to shoot and toss), amazing physics, and smart enemies. They're not always geniuses, but when things work right they will be outflanking you, and providing a nice challenge. I beat Crysis 2 earlier this year and I loved it, but Crysis takes the cake. If you're still reading : I went on a mission early in the game and died 3 times trying to get into base, then it occurred to me - 'sandbox'. My options were greater than "walk up the road into the base". I sniped 2 patrolling officers out of their boat, swam out, stole the boat and drove it full speed onto the shore. I then switched into the turret position and laid waste to everyone that came down the hill to get me. After a minute there were only 3 guards left. I jumped out, went into predator stealth mode and took out the three remaining guards. The final guard I grabbed by his throat and flung a 100 yards off of a cliff into the ocean below. It's epic, and these moments can only be found in a game like this. Until you melee your first beach hut into a pile of debris, you just wont understand. This was made for people who haven't had the opportunity to enjoy the gameplay of Crysis, and it was done very well. The framerate stays consistent, actually much more stable than Crysis 2. Oh, and it's not 'missing' a level. The dev's removed it because it was a point of contention for PC players. So in short, they nerfed the graphics to a respectable level, kept the gamplay experience intact, and delivered an amazing game without the frustrating level that everyone hated to begin with. buy this game. AAA title for 20 dollars. You deserve it. Expand

People say that the game was simply a tech demo. All looks and no gameplay, but I completely disagree. Enemies are in places they never used to be and missing from places they used to be. They're far easier to kill and their AI is far worse.

A whole level is missing and while it wasn't the best level in the game, it was still a part of the original game that hasn't been included here. Textures are terrible and the lighting is too. A lot of sounds have been changed, including most of the guns. The FY71 sounds so bad compared to the original.

All Crytek had to do was downgrade the graphics so the game would run on consoles. Instead they have remade the game so it's a different experience. Why they changed the nanosuit to the same one from Crysis 2 is beyond me. This is meant to be the original game, not the sequel. Crytek have failed miserably again just like they did with Crysis 2. The original Crysis on PC was one of my favourite games of all time but Crytek have lost all my respect with a failed sequel and failed port. Won't be buying any more of their products.

If you can, get Crysis for pc. Even on medium graphics it will look better than this port. You'll also get the full experience and get to play the game in the awesome way it was originally intended. If you want to use a controller, the pc version has always supported a 360 controller anyway.

This port deserves a 0. It's not the original Crysis, it's been modified and made far worse.

This really is a game that should have remained back in the past. It might not be that old, but when all it had going for it was the tech, it should never have been ressurected in an inferior port. Hardly anything in the game makes any sense - the AI is really terrible, and this espeically noticable if you try to play it stealth. $2 on steam might be worth it - anything more is just a rip-off.

We are given some flashbacks to the original "Crysis" that we never played, but those do not make any sense either. Where did the Nano-suit come from? Why are space aliens invading earth? A solid and smart conversion of the classic PC game to xbox360. The last third is still weak but then so was the original 'classic'. This game fundamentally redefined the shooter category and the gameplay innovation in both look and feel is still very evident here and worth a play.

You play as Nomad, a bland 1 dimensional soldier and part of Raptor Squad who are sent in to the island of Lingshan to thin KPA forces and rescue a archaeological team being held captive by them. Your squad is equipped with Nanosuits, suits capable of giving the user superhuman strength, speed and damage resistance. However as you delve deeper into the island you find that what the archaeologists uncovered was not of this world and threatens the entire human race.
Crysis is beautiful, it also plays better than most FPS's on the market due to the Nanosuit making it stand out from the competition. However this version does take out a level involving flying the games airborne vehicles V-TOL's but it wont be missed as it is cited as the worst level in the game. It also lacks the PC's multiplayer modes, however this does not matter as the singleplayer game is so fantastic that it makes up for it. Plus the mission where you enter the alien spaceship is perhaps one of the greatest levels in gaming ever, a must buy!

From enemy soldiers that don't attack you and just stare at the sky, to dead people that get up after emptying 2 magazines. But the worst comes at the end when the game is terribly buggy and makes you can't finish the game against the final boss, forcing you to reload the last chapter until you get the weapon you need to defeat him.

You play as Jake Dunn, codename "Nomad", a U.S. Delta Force soldier working as apart of "Team Raptor", they're dispatched to a fictitious island somewhere east of The Philippines when they receive a distress call from a research team on the island informing them they've discovered some temple that houses technological advancements beyond human capabilities. Raptor's mission is to evacuate the research team and secure any valuable information from the dig site.

The team skydives towards the island, but Nomad gets separated from the rest of the team, winds up crash landing on a beach and needs to fight his way through the island’s jungle while taking down North Korean troops in order to regroup with his team. Nomad, along with the rest of the squad, are all outfitted with high-tech weapons as well as "Nanosuits". The Nanosuits give the player super human strength and speed, protection from gunfire and explosives and allow you to temporarily turn invisible. Nomad eventually regroups with Team Raptor, only to discover that an invading race of space aliens starts picking off members of the team as well as North Korean soldiers. Despite this, Nomad and the remaining members of Team Raptor continue their exploration deeper into the island, uncovering it’s hidden secrets and upholding the mission.

So how does the game look and feel after roughly 13 years? Well, on the whole, I’d say it’s still good. The game’s environments are beautifully rendered; I particularly liked the way the darker/night missions are lit as well as the way they handled the dense jungle foliage. The main character models are well done and the various textures are still high quality even after all these years. The inspiration from Crytek’s previous game, Far Cry, is pretty apparent here in terms of the game’s environment design, overall art direction and angles of attack for clearing out an encampment. Graphically, Crysis really does give you a sense just how ahead of the curve Crytek and the CryEngine were and they certainly lend credence to the “But can it run Crysis?” memes.

Gameplay-wise, Crysis comes with your standard, yet limited arsenal of FPS weapons: pistol, shotgun, two assault rifles, rocket launcher, semi-automatic rifle, explosives and one or two one-off weapons. If you pick up another one, you can dual-wield pistols in this game and any game that has you John Woo-ing your way through it gets a pass in my book. You do burn through ammo quicker by doing it, but overall, it’s still worth it. In order to make up for the lack of weapon selections, the weapons in Crysis offer alt-fire modes/attachments. For instance, the SCAR allows you to equip an under-barrel grenade launcher, a fully and semi automatic mode and the option of shooting non-lethal tranquilizer darts and incendiary rounds. The shotgun can be modded to have a tighter spread at the cost of stopping power. The pistol even has a burst fire option. If you do run out of ammo, the Nanosuit allows you to pick up heavy objects, such as fuel barrels, and throw them at enemy soldiers either stunning them or killing them outright.

Like Far Cry, Crysis gives the player options as to how they want to deal with most combat encounters. Do you mark the targets with your binoculars and snipe them from afar? Do you go in guns blazing and rely on your Nanosuit’s shield feature for some extra protection? Or, do you stealth it up by leveraging your Nanosuit’s cloaking feature? It’s up to you! Aiding you in your combat approach is the ability to customize your weapons on the fly, equipping and removing attachments such as sights, scopes, silencers and grenade launchers as you see fit. The game also provides you with some vehicle options, including civilian cars, jeeps and trucks where you can control a mounted machine gun and a tank for one mission which is endlessly fun.

Missions progress linearly, but the game will also throw a few secondary objectives to coincide with your primary one. They’re not overly difficult; it’s mostly “disable this jammer here” or “collect this important intel there”. They’re not that far off the main mission path and there are 3 achievements tied to the number of secondary objectives you complete, so there is some incentive to do them.

On a technical level, Crysis is still fine. As you might expect, it does take a bit of a hit on the Xbox 360. The game hitches for a moment while saving a checkpoint, I occasionally noticed some draw distance jankiness when looking through the binoculars or a rifle scope, the frame rate can go in the toilet when there’s a lot of fast-paced action. The enemy AI can be kind of stupid at times, particularly when I was sniping. On the plus side, the game never once hard crashed on me and the loading screens are not overly long.

So 13 years later, Crysis is still a game that I recommend you play for it’s well-aged graphics, fun FPS gameplay and relatively good story.

Thoroughly enjoyed this game! Not as good as 2 but it's good nonetheless! The Crysis franchise was a nice surprise for me. I really enjoyed these games!

Alongside the OG Modern Warfare 2, this game will have to be one of the best FPS games but this is the Xbox 360 version, as the PC version is why people say this as one of the most underrated shooters of all time. Playing it on the 360, sure the graphics isn’t the best, but the uniqueness is what makes it stand out. This is a big deal when it released (along with the PS3 version) in 2011.

So PC fans, don't panic – even though I personally believe Crysis for console is better than the PC version, it's not meant to totally replace the PC version. Rather, its purpose is to give the original Crysis experience to the masses, and honestly, why wouldn't PC gamers want that?

    As a single-player experience, it's every bit the quality of a full-priced shooter. [Christmas 2011, p.97]

It's aged very well and is a great addition to console. Shame about multiplayer, though. [Christmas 2011, p.92]
