However like everyone says AI is really dumb. So dumb in fact that i often found myself standing right in front of them and they would either ignore me and walk away or simply stand there. The levels weren't as open as i would have hoped but they were still more open than cod which is good. The nano suit also helps to keep things fresh as it enables you to do many cool things such as run fast or become invincible for a short period of time with the use of armour mode. So overall i enjoyed the campaign. Multiplayer is a different story however. While the nano suit adds some spice to the formula of online shooters it doesn't make up for all the glitchs and imperfections. First of all the spawning in this game is the worst i have ever seen. Whenever a match first starts i either luck out and spawn behind the enemy and kill them or lose and the enemy spawns behind me and kills me, this is extremely frustrating. And multiple times throughout the match i will be spawn killed. Also stealth and armour mode are totally unbalanced. Stealth (unlike in halo) doesn't become less effective the faster you move so what you get is people running around the whole game with stealth and killing you. Armour mode is really not very effective, it is bassically means that instead of getting killed with five bullets in your chest it will be ten, which means you will last about 1/3 of a second longer...wow. So bassically if you don't use stealth about 70% of the time you will die alot. Hit detection is also bad, sometimes you empty half a clip into buddy and nothing happens but then he goes and kills you via a head shot. also after you relode it takes about a second before you can ADS and sometimes you won't be able to shoot at all. Melee is inconsistent sometimes taking 2 punches to kill someone and other times 4, and i can't say how many times i have had somebody stand behind me and punch me 3-4 times and i not even know it because there is nothing to indicate you being punched. Lag is also a problem that i faced many times. Finally this is one of the most frustrating multi experiences i have ever had, i have more fun playing cod and coming from me that is a big statement. But when the game isn't glitched or lagged to hell it is actually really fun but sadly this isn't too often. So the campaign was great but it falls short when it comes to multiplayer. Expand

Crysis 2 is a good game. The single player campaign lasts a good 9 to 12 hours without backtracking like Halo. The graphics are better than any other xbox game out there now. The gameplay is very FPS - but I agree it can feel a little repetive after a while of cloaking, getting a headshot, then re-cloaking. It's easy to keep doing what works rather than exploring different ways to play. The AI is a mixed bag: on the one hand they do a good job tracking you and even spotting you when cloaked. On the other hand, all too often they get stuck on objects and behave very twitchy.

The story is the biggest downer in this game. It's like a convoluted final fantasy/metal gear storyline. If that's your thing, then you'll like this. But if you prefer a game where story moves by means other than blindly following orders from someone in your headphone, you'll be disappointed with the storyline.

for me based on SP, this gets a 5.

    multiplayer:
simple, if you like Halo and jumping around in a gimp suit with terrible hit detection this is for you.
if you prefer military shooters with a large variety of weapons and customization then move along.
    this also gets a 5.

overall a poor result based on the hype and buildup to release, im not a harsh critic of games generally, but this game got traded in 3 days after purchase.

    overall a 6/10.

I love how most of you people think "Good Graphics equals Excellent Gameplay". Well, IT'S NOT. Open your eyes; Behind that beautiful visuals the controls are laggy and difficult to control. The story is crappy and too long. Multiplayer servers are disorganized and are much like BO servers, thus gameplay is equivalent to BF2. Overall it's JUST a game with nothing special.

    *Bad stuff*:
    - Linear level design.
    - small "boxed" level-areas (vehicles, unlike in Crysis1 only useful on specially for them designed maps).
    - Less interactive game world (game physics and interaction with world MUCH inferior to C1).
    - Dumb AI (bad guys were constantly running into walls on my play-through & etc).
    - Crappier graphics/Cutscenes/Blocky models/Blurry textures/Pop-ins.
    - Inconsistent & moronic storyline.
    - Completely different/inferior gameplay experience (the only thing reminding you that you're playing a crysis game is the nanosuit).
    - No editor.

    *Good stuff*:
    - Musical score.
    - New Nanosuit abilities.

Anyway, to put it bluntly, Crysis2 is just another mediocre FPS shooter.
It brings nothing new to the genre and has no memorable moments. Prepare to be disappointed.

Having said that I will review the game as if it were any other game, without holding the monumental weight of all the expectations people have for this game over its head. Graphically this game looks about average, at least on 360, sorry, this is not the best looking console game of this generation. Don't get me wrong, sometimes it does look great, but most of the time there are some very real and very obvious problems. There is a lot of texture pop-in, shadows are weird clouds of black dust that react spasmodically to different conditions, the world in general looks at times washed out and at other times over-saturated. There are also strange artifact issues that pop up quite often. Your suit looks cool, but you won't be seeing much of it outside of menu screens so that really doesn't matter. Enemy designs don't fare as well, they look rather generic when compared to foes from other sci-fi shooters. New York looks as it should, although it has been destroyed. Sound is ok, but footsteps, punches and other sounds seem like they're being played through blown speakers. The soundtrack is probably the best part of the game, very atmospheric and lends itself well to the action presented. AI is pretty terrible. Sometimes enemies will act rather stupid, running in circles, having seizures, stare right at you but do nothing. I even shot one soldier, he laid down flat, sprung back up instantly like a robot and began firing at me again, stuff like that happened a lot. However sometimes they'll have a sort of sixth sense, even when cloaked and not moving they'll spot you and waste you. They're also expert marksmen sometimes and other times they're worse than Stormtroopers from Star Wars. As far as gameplay goes its really nothing you haven't seen before. You find cover, shoot badguys, run from point A to B, lather, rinse, repeat. This game really isn't as tactical as everyone claims. You toggle a hud and tag targets and weapons caches. All in all this amounts to looking through binoculars and planning your attack, then you act. Nothing special as you can see enemies and weapons without marking them. I found I used this very little during the campaign. You also upgrade your suit by collecting nano-goo from dead aliens, this is presented as you look down at your hand and each upgrade is assigned to a finger that twitches when selected. There are several for each finger but I found this setup a little confusing until I had a few of them. Maybe if there were a more useful in-game tutorial or an instruction manual that consisted of more than a few pages this wouldn't have been an issue. I had trouble figuring out the hud until later on in the game when I realized I was over-thinking everything and it wasn't as crucial to the game as everyone made it out to be, but this is EA's way now. They say its to go paperless and save the environment but its really just to save a buck and make us buy the strategy guide. The game moves at a very slow pace because you can't just run and gun like most shooters, so you may want to think about that before you purchase this, this isn't COD or Bulletstorm. You also have to watch the power level of your suit because everything you do and every ability you activate drains power, this I felt added too much micromanagement and slowed the flow of the game even further. You have stealth, which doesn't work very well unless you're a good distance away, and Armor which makes you close to invincible for a short time. Story-wise, there really isn't one. I won't spoil what little there is here, just know you're a guy in a super-powered suit fighting soldiers and aliens in a destroyed New York and everyone has an alien plague. I didn't play the first one so I didn't know why any of this was happening, so if you didn't play the first expect to be saying "huh?" a lot. Maybe on PC this looks better, but I can't imagine it plays a whole lot better. It is surely not the best looking console game I've seen, not even close, and there's nothing revolutionary about the gameplay itself. I had to play in small portions due to boredom and frustration. If you like it, more power to you, it just isn't my cup of tea. I also don't think it is some kind of benchmark for shooters. I've had more fun with games I've paid a lot less for. This is one to try before you buy if possible. Expand

Whereas Farcry 1 allowed a player to approach or progress a conflict from many different angles or even avoid, Crysis2 herds the player down a disguised corridor with zero choice for the player to choose where to go. The graphics are very impressive but the game play itself lacks innovation and doesn't engage. The mulitplayer at heart is just a COD clone. There are classes, killstreaks, perks, dogtags/emlems, the lot. However, the actual game is far better balanced than COD and actually very enjoyable. The nanosuit gives the player far more gameplay mechanics to play with which in turn offers the player more ways to play the game and more tactical options. The maps are beautiful and in general very well designed. Some in my opinion are too big for team deathmatch and there are too many long spells spent looking for the enemy. The biggest problem with the multiplayer is the lag. For me, the beta was perfect, I didnt experience lag once. The retail version though is not so good. Lots of emptying mags into other players only to have them turn round and kill me with 2 bullets from a pistol. Very frustrating. Overall, the single player is forgettable and not worth the effort. The multiplayer has masses of potential but is ultimately ruined by poor netcode. Expand

The story is useless and the setting is just plain overused. Why must every single disaster be in New York, there are other cities in the world. After about five hours of this I just gave up. I couldn't bring myself to play anymore. You get from level to level through boring cutscenes where someone tells you what to do and where to do it with q slightly altered version of the main theme playing in the backround. Once again, Hans Zimmer does not disappoint with his music. The gameplay is downright frustrating. Frequent glitches will freeze you in place until you have to reset the game (sometimes even the console when it completely freezes up), have enemies walking in mid-air and sometimes not even die. At one stage I had no weapons, they just vanished in front of me. I thought it was part of the mission but after getting killed by about twenty soldiers at once i respawned with them. The controles work fine but can get very clunky and often get you killed. This review is only based on the story mode as I never went near multiplayer. From what I've heard it's pretty good. Then again from what I've heard the campaign is amazing. Overall, campaign is boring, graphics and soundtrack are great, gameplay is glitchy as hell and multiplayer is apparently pretty good. I was extremely disappointed with this game Expand

Crysis 2 isn't a bad game but it isn't a great game either. While it's storyline is engaging and it's graphics and sound in particular are strong in places, i couldn't help but feel that it didn't live up to it's potential. It's the story of a marine who finds himeslf in posession of a mysterious cryogenic battle suit which gives him much amplified battle skills, strength, stamina, tactical awareness, and, for a short period at a time before it has to rechrge, invisibility and stealth capabilities (think predator, including the same sound effects and heat vision). The story revolves around defending many, (many) different areas in new york city from a hostile alien invasion. Crysis was the daddy of graphics heavy PC shooters when it was released a year or three back. It got lots of accolades in that area, and naturally when the sequel hit consoles, the first question was "how does it look?". Well, it looks (and sounds) great for the most part, but the problem is that quite a few things stop you from enjoying that. Little graphical niggles like texture pop-in here and there as well as occasionally dodgy frame rates and animations get in the way, and also, repetitive and re-used level layouts, textures, samey looking layouts, and a general "cut and paste" feel to about 75% of all the areas in the game means that by about halfway through the story, you've stopped looking because you've seen everything the cryengine 3 graphics engine has to offer many times over.

By then though, the game's REAL problems will be starting to bug you just a little bit more than that......

I can live with graphics issues, re-using levels and ojectives, and other generally cheap ways of stretching a game's budget or pushing timelines, but what i can't live with is things that constantly lift you out of the narrative experience and remind you you're playing a buggy, underpolished videogame that somebody should have given more playtesting time to. Cysis 2 has that in spades, from dumb, buggy A.I. to poor and occasionally confusing level design, to enemies that will just plain vanish into thin air just as you've got a bead on them, or worse still, spawn sudenly behind you and kick the sh1t out of you in a room you'd just checked and cleared for enemies 5 seconds ago. All of this is common. Once, i had just sniped a lone soldier from a vantage point, and cloaked to await more targets. An identical looking AI enemy came along a minute or so later, exclaimed "huh?" looked down and saw his buddy, cried out, "oh no, he's dead", ducked for cover for fear of being shot, then after about 5 or 10 seconds, stood up and discovered him again with the same "huh? " and proceeded to repeat the process over and over again until i put him out of his misery with a headshot.

When dealing with the game's human AI targets, this ease of stealth combined with buggy programming lead to a lot of "cloak, pump a clip into somebody, run away, hide, repeat" gameplay, which, combined with the game's samey environments, grows old long before the lengthy storyline is done. The game's alien enemies however are not so simple. Where some of the human AI will have you frustrated with their ease, some of the alien ones will have you chewing your controller with their general cheapness and overly hard-to-kill programming on higher difficulties. In many instances late in the game for example, the cloak is pretty much the only way you can progress through an area full of enemies, as standing your ground results in extermination from all angles by swathes of enemies. Regardless which way you come at it from, too much of this game revolves around stealth killing. That has it's place in most modern shooters, but in Crysis 2 it's so wall-to-wall that you tire of it quickly. In fact, owards the end of the game's lengthy and convoluted plotline, i found myself just stealthing past absolutely everybody as much as i could, purely to move the plot along in hope of reaching the end.

That, coming from someone who's from the "you absolutely positively have to kill every last motherf*ker in the room" school of thinking when it comes to FPS games, is definitely not a compliment..

Other things, like the overly complicated waepon and customisation control options add to the "meh" feel of this game. It's a shame, because Crysis 2 had a lot of promise. It's not terrible, it has, very good graphics and sound, and a lot going for it otherwise, but it was let down by lack of polish in too many areas for me.

One to rent or to buy discounted only. There are too many better FPS games out there to justify paying full price for this one

It's not terrible but so disappointing. I'd say check out other shooters. Expand

It really is a beautiful looking game and the armor controls were definitely made for console. It handles well but it just doesn't have any soul. Crytek surely know how to make good graphic, but it seems they can't make good games. Did they forgot to program the A.I.? The enemies are the dumbest I've ever seen in a game. What a disappointment... -_-

Nice single player, but storyline is not very good... crysis 1 was better. Graphic is impressive. Multiplayer is no skill based. I think that this game should be improved more...

This game is worth $10 max. That's it, don't pay a penny more. The story is predictable and cliche. The load times are incredibly long. I mean really long. What initially proves to be an engaging, beautiful game eventually falls into a repetitive, incomprehensible mess. The plot gradually becomes so convoluted that you end up rolling your eyes at the "triumphant" conclusion in which you... well.. The grandiose music and epic cinematography lead me to believe that SOMETHING important happened. I'm just not sure what that is.

Even on the harder difficulty levels, a combination of smart stealth kills and decent aim makes this game far too easy. Surprisingly, you can avoid combat almost entirely in some of the maps if you stealth to the correct locations, recharge, then proceed.

With all that said, I enjoyed it for a few hours, then beat the same solely due to my completionist tendencies. But it's never a good sign when the ending comes as a relief...

Fun, Innovative, and Well-Written but not worth buying. A great rental on a boring night or day, but nothing to be super excited about. It is a "must-play" but its only a must-play if you dont have anything better to do. it gets a little repetitive and it just looks a little cartoony.

Great game, Graphics were amazing, game play was almost perfect. I can across some bugs through the game. I think of this game is kind of a new and improved halo, the suit rocks. The only this i disliked was the story it has been done before. Could have been more creative.

Many people thought consoles would ruin this game, but i believe that much as been improved. Graphics are better than ever in this game and the controls always keep you on top of the game. the campaign was a blast with "wow" moments around every corner and gameplay that kept you playing. the multiplayer, however was promised to be a highlight, although i found it a bit disappointing. theMany people thought consoles would ruin this game, but i believe that much as been improved. The game was purchased entirely for its 3D support as I wanted to know what a first person shooter looked like in 3D. Perhaps it was the perspective that made it feel so much more real, but the way that characters and parts of the map truly felt a distance away and that I was able to gauge my gameplay off my visuals in that added sense was a tremendous feeling. Without the 3D on I still thought the game looked beautiful, and in my opinion has some of the best graphics I've seen this gen. All of that aside the game faired okay. The first half felt slow and boring and took a while to get a handle on how to go into combat. After figuring out the mechanics, the sparsity of ammunition, and just general tactics the game pace picked up and became a lot more fun. The story felt about the same in pacing and while a lot of it seemed like a central idea with a bunch of loose connections. It felt like Crysis 2 wanted me to fill in the blanks on these tangents it brought in, but perhaps I was at a disadvantage for not having played the prequel. The music didn't do much for me either but it didn't feel out of place. Overall I felt the game to be fairly forgettable. It was fun once it got going but in retrospect is more of a novelty for its visual capabilities mixed with decent gameplay. I am pleased with the experience but at the same time I felt like I was left wanting more out of the experience. Expand

This is a technically proficient, and indeed incredibly beautiful game, which includes some amazing visual set pieces. However, the overall gaming experience seems to be lacking in any kind of "soul", and starts to feel a bit generic pretty much straight away. Crysis 2 emphasises stealth to succeed, but games like Deus Ex: Human Revolution did it better.

The main reason to play Crysis 2 are the graphics. Yes, the argument "graphics don't make the game" is typically applied to a situation like this. However, this game is the exception to that argument. This game is just beautiful.

This game is an above average shooter with awesome visuals. If you can find it for a cheap price, be sure to pick it up.

I will start by saying I hated the "abilities" given to the player especially the camouflage, A action, first person shooter dose not require stealth. There were a few boring missions where this ability played a huge role making me extremely frustrated towards the end of the game. I will however give the game 2 points for exciting action scenes and excellent alien AI, which made for some interesting battles. Its a shame such a wonderful premise as failed to capture gamers in which could of been a game of the generation. Crysis 2 has turned into a play once never to see again game. I would only recommend a rent at best. Expand

Taking control of the ultimate soldier has never been more entertaining. The gameplay and controls of Crysis 2 are outstanding and rate among the best in the genre. Graphics and sound are incredible, the post-apocalyptic atmosphere hasn't been this good since Fallout 3. The unique Crysis 2 is much more than a typical shooter.

Crysis 2 is more than a cranked out first person shooter. It takes the time to enhance an already interesting Sci-fi game while tightening and tuning the elements that set it apart from the pack. Oh, and did I mention it's gorgeous to look at?

Swapping a picture-perfect landscape for New York's urban sprawl could have been disastrous, but Crytek has found variety in the setting, guiding the player through blue-grey skyscrapers, leafy green parks, rooftops at sunset and industrial harbours. [May 2011, p.90]
