Conflict: Denied Ops

Hopefully someone will take the concepts that Conflict gets right and crafts a better game around them. [May 2008, p.81]

Conflict: Denied Ops is a mediocre first-person shooter with average gameplay. With so many flaws, this game is a tough sell at its current premium price.

This game has no personality because it is filled with predictable, relentlessly average design. Sadly, even the boring design actually manages to struggle, thanks to a few key flaws.

It offers nothing unique and has almost no production value. Shooters are a dime a dozen these days and most have this game beat at every turn.

A mess of a game in all senses of the term. Its gameplay is at least one generation behind the competition, its presentation is like a collection of every graphical effect thrown into a mixing pot and poured onto the screen and the online implementation leaves a lot to be desired.

The game isn't broken by any means, but it's so astonishingly unimpressive in every way that it almost loops back around and becomes impressive because of how unimpressive it is.

There was never much indication that this was going to be any good. What surprises me though, is how much this game makes me want to put down my controller and walk away from my system. You don’t feel like playing any sort of game after engaging in this one, which is just a dangerous enough side-effect for me to recommend that you don’t even look at the box this game comes in.

Conflict Denied Ops is a bad game, there I said it. No amount of glossing over or hyping the game is going to change that.

This game attempts to fill the cookie cutter FPS mold, but uses dough way beyond expiration. I can think of no good reason to recommend this game to any FPS fans.
