I'm still at a loss as to why anyone suggests this game. It's classified action adventure, but I saw neither in the amount of time I could stomach playing it. I'm more a fan of playing games than reading them. If you like reading simulators, and you like Japanese style games, and you don't believe "fun" needs to be included, boy is this the game for you. If you treasure a good time, and playing more than reading, you'll want to skip this one. It has generated a cult following, and that makes sense. You should join a cult if you enjoy this game. The "puzzles" are less interesting than a game of Tetris, and the conversations are more ridiculous than a mediocre JRPG. It was painful to play through the little bit I did. Expand

DO NOT BUY THIS! This game had so much potential to be a unique game with an interesting story. But unfortunately Atlus decided to betray gamers and put impossible puzzle challenges not only into the game but as the main element of the game. So good luck trying to enjoy a unique story when all of your gaming time will be spent yelling and screaming at unsolvable bullsh*t puzzles. ThereforeDO NOT BUY THIS! Therefore this game has no redeeming qualities left as the puzzles mire everything into an unfun and infuriating piece of garbage. There is a "very easy" mode.... thing is it is a cheat that I learned only after googling about the insane difficulty in this game. And even then it won't help you. The only difference is that you very often find power ups that make you climb three blocks instead of one. Problem is that the later levels are designed specifically in a way that this will not help you in any way, making the puzzle levels just as impossible as they were before and the only way to go forward is to watch walkthrough videos second by second and copying the moves painstakingly. How about no. How about fu*king no. Fu*k you Atlus. Fu*k you. Expand

Catherine has a unique premise based on sexual infidelity that attracted a cult following, but for casual gamers, it suffers from several unforgivable design sins like unskippable cut scenes, bad defaults, inane repeating audio cues, and an unnecessary save system.

Themes of alcoholism and things like a pregnancy scare were novel, but the supernatural anime-style ending ruined the plot

A fresh and unique game, but with a steep challenge that some will find frustrating. But it does feature a giant arse monster. [Issue#82, p.92]

Catherine will mean different things to different people, a game that runs far deeper than its titillating surface might suggest. And the journey to finding out what it means to you is certainly one worth taking.

If you hate puzzle games, this certainly isn't for you. But if you decide to throw your time and money at Catherine, you're in for a dream of a game within the genre.
