my favorite modern warfare. this is basically a fixed mw2 but in my opinion way better. the story is a step down but the multiplayer is super fun with the customization, maps, and the player icons. and spec ops is the best part with a survival mode. survival is kind of like zombies but with less things to do. and spec ops missions can be multiplayer and a lot of missions.

Certainly a disappointment after the first two, the story feels rushed and the multiplayer is basically the same as the last one but the added survival mode is great. Still a great game and a fin conclusion if you ask me.

The campaign is the sad but perfect story end for this sub-series. Makarov. **** Gets it. Every one was devastated when "Soap" died and the twist of Yuri being there the whole time was phenomenal. I never got to play the multiplayer so I'm just gonna skip over that. The mode I love the most is by far, survival. So, so addicting. Expand

The biggest thing about MW3's development was that most of the original Infinity Ward Team left to form Respawn Entertainment, that original Infinity Ward development team would go on to make the Titanfall Games. Since that team left, the developing cycle became shorter for the making of MW3 going around 6-8 months which was the shortest COD Game development cycle. But, Infinity Ward still was able to conclude the Modern Warfare Trilogy in a pretty good way.

The Campaign was amazing since it actually wrapped up the real story unlike with Black Ops 3 which didn't take place after BO2 and it didn't follow-up on your decisions from the BO2 Campaign.

Spec Ops was brought back from MW2 making new missions, an endless survival mode, & a brand new mode called Chaos Mode which is a Quick PVE Mode where you chain kills to score as many points as possible before time runs out. MW3's Spec Ops was a big step-up after MW2 but its still not better than Treyarch Zombies.

MW3's Multiplayer didn't stand out that much compared to the rest of the Modern Warfare Trilogy but we still got new features like Specialist Kill-streaks (which can transform the players into super soldiers by giving them all of the perks) & community game-modes like All or Nothing & Infected. One significant change about MW3's Multiplayer was the Season Pass because it was sold like a big Battle-Pass for 12 months and it didn't have 4 DLC Drops like Black Ops 1. The system was dropping new Maps & Game modes like the Face-off Playlist (1v1, 2v2, 3v3, & Hardcore 3v3), the overall Season Pass really shook up the game a lot. MW3 Multiplayer also has the most overall launch content having over 50+ Guns to use & 16 Maps to play on, it has the best launch multiplayer IMO. Overall, if the development cycle was longer than it would've been originally, it would've been the best game of the Trilogy.

I don’t understand why this game was so hated. It might look almost the same as MW2, all the mechanics might be the same, but taking the newer games into consideration, MW3 deserves a lot of praise.

Campaign- Great story, mission locations and atmospheres are very diverse compared to the last 2 modern warfare games. Characters very memorable as always in the MW trilogy. A fitting end.

Special Ops- A drastic improvement from MW2. IW and Sledgehammer packed loads of content into MW3’s spec ops. 16 missions, survival and chaos made it a lot of fun. Multiplayer- I’m not gonna lie, the multiplayer maps are pretty mediocre. But solid weapons and killstreaks keep you invested in it. And amazingly, micro transactions aren’t blown in your face! The developers had the ‘if you want it, go and earn it’ kind of attitude back then.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To be completely honest, I really don't think this game deserves the hate it gets, I might come off as biased since this was my first AND favorite Call of Duty game in the series, the reason why I enjoyed this title so much was not because of the campaign or the multiplayer, the spec ops mode in Modern Warfare 3 was one of the most enjoyable and satisfying spec ops/survival modes I've ever played in a Call of Duty game (next to zombies of course). The main argument that people use to describe this game is that it is strikingly similar to MW2, that might be true but you have to remember that even the best games such as the Fallout franchise, have their similarities with each title, the only difference being that there are a few improvements sprinkled in. MW3 itself has some notable inspirations taken away from MW2 and some much-needed improvements, the third-party modded game modes such as infected, were added into MW3 as an official community game mode and this might be one of the only Call of Duties in the franchise that has taken ideas from their community and put them into practice. The survival mode is an amazing example of improvement to MW2's spec ops mode, the MW3 survival mode is nothing short of fun and exciting (even more so with a friend), there is a lot of strategy and tactics involved in MW3's survival mode in order to chew through waves and survive for as long as humanly possible, not to mention the many unique strategy-oriented community game modes, which adds an extra layer of complexity and thinking to MW3's game modes and overall gameplay. Just because I have a lot of good to say about MW3 does not mean it is safe from criticism, for example; the campaign was a bit of a downgrade from MW1 and 2's campaigns, as MW3 simply didn't take as many risks and narrative techniques as the 1st and 2nd MWs, however, the characters were written really well, especially the main villain, Makarov, we were able to see just how sadistic and evil this character really was and in MW3 we got to witness his satisfying downfall which was a dramatic but much needed and satisfying ending to the Modern Warfare trilogy, MW3 also took the heartbreaking approach in the narrative, by killing off arguably the most popular and loved MW1 and 2 player character, soap, this obviously devastated and infuriated die-hard MW1 and 2 players but it was ultimately a clever way to tug at your heartstrings. So overall the campaign was decent and well written but was ultimately not as captivating and exciting as the previous campaigns in the trilogy. In terms of normal multiplayer, IT WAS in fact almost a carbon copy of MW2's multiplayer, however, it was still very enjoyable and could pass as a solid and tolerable multiplayer on any given day. I've had fond memories of this game growing up so this review might be a bit biased but overall this game has its downsides but it is nowhere near being a "bad or mediocre game", the more often you play it, the more you come to appreciate it's gameplay, simplicity, and it's complexity alike. Modern Warfare is back with a bang. This time developers Sledgehammer team up with Infinity Ward, bringing gaming’s elite together for the third instalment of the Modern Warfare franchise.

Previous release (MW2) gripped players through endless multi-player action online, and (some of the time) the accompanying campaign mode. Modern Warfare 3 dives straight into the action and Russia is on America’s doorstep threatening invasion.

Soap and Price are back and with the help of Frost, Nikolai and new guy Yuri (to name a few). Primary antagonist Makarov is back too, hijacking the plane of President Vorshevsky and kidnapping his daughter Alena to add leverage to his insane bid to gain launch codes for the Russian Nuclear Arsenal.

I was taken back by all the gunfire, explosions and attention to detail brought forward in MW3, and while the game engine is still the same as before, buildings, characters and scenery all looking amazing. The cut scenes too are well done bringing the story to life with verve and drama.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3Campaign Mode is all gripping, tense and thrilling. Spanning over several months, from land, air and sea with a vast array of weaponry, non repetitive objectives and an easy to follow heads up display. Difficulty changes are noticeable calling players to use a deeper tactical approach if Veteran is your forte.

Co-op Campaign is still a no-go and something the game is really missing. We do though see the Special Ops Mode return, with less stars to collect down from the pain staking 69 in MW2 to a more manageable 48.

As single or co-op, the challenge based missions are a test of abilities to up the ante of player skills. In conjunction a new mode makes a debut, Survival Mode.

One or two players against waves of increasingly difficult AI enemies. What is different is enemy spawn, it’s all calculated on the tactical position of the human player (finally no fixed spawn) to ensure players are on high alert at all times.

Guns, ammo and special support upgrades are available and unlockable by use of “cash” earned through time. Special select guns are also only available in this mode to either entice or annoy gamers.

Last, but by no means least, is the world renowned Call of Duty Online Multi-player.

Now with a more in-depth take through connection via Facebook and joining the ranks is free to download ELITE, a new aspect giving resemblance to Combat Record (Black Ops). You can view and compare stats, forge clans, news, tournaments and tons more. There is also a Premium upgrade option for all the hardcore to unlock more in-depth content.

In play weapon XP & level XP all act as a unit to keep gaming rewarding, unlocking weapon add-ons and perks. MW3 is a big improvement on MW2 with noticeable changes and differences across the board and I will be playing this game online for some time to come.

Big debates about which is best, MW3 or Battlefield 3 (its main rival) will go on for a long time, but MW3 has enough going for it to keep you enthralled in its grasp at least until the next installment is released.

It is "okay" at best and I supposed that's why this game gets so much **** from gamers (I mean, it's what made CoD so famous). Taking these two modes into account, it's a 6 or 7 out of 10. But let's not forget the game's best mode, the co-op. It's like two modes in one; there are a series of 1 or 2-player missions like in MW2 and then there's a fun survival mode. When the first Modern Warfare came out, it was a well received, game changing, revolutionary title. When the second Modern Warfare came out, it broke all kinds of commercial records and was critically acclaimed, even if it was nowhere near as innovative as the original. MW3 is another incredibly polished, endlessly fun title that may not change the series too much but is amazing in its own way, due to the fact that Infinity Ward encountered numerous layoffs, the firing of its leads and multiple legal troubles. The fact that it has come out as the fifth best COD title around makes it all the better and the fact that it broke even more records than the previous game has insured that there will be plenty more Call of Duty games to come from Infinity Ward.

The story picks up straight after the end of MW2, with Soap rushed to a hidden base as he slowly bleeds out. As the defibrillators crackle to life, the title flashes onto the screen. It's an atmospheric beginning and itt certainly sets up the dark, yet explosive journey ahead. If you have ever played a COD before, you'll know what to expect- multiple plot twists, bombastic set pieces, quick time events... The thing is, it is possible to become emotionally invested in this campaign as multiple characters die and Makarov's end game comes to light. He is truly one of the scariest villains in all of gaming and the armed forces fight to stop him is noble and long (even if the campaign is only 6 or so hours). The acting is still fairly impressive and the level design is linear, if entertaining. The set pieces continue to increase in scale and size as well. You'll engage in a thrilling car chase, a submarine take down and the destruction of the Eiffel Tower in a decimated Paris. It is like three Micheal Bay blockbusters wrapped up in a shiny disc and case. As per usual, the levels have multiple collectibles, varying difficulty levels and a few Easter Eggs so the replayability is still fairly high. The bite sized levels certainly suit this style.

The campaign may be fun, but come on! Most people play these games for the multilayer. A bunch of new modes feature and each one is fairly good. Infected is the real standout and the cat and mouse gameplay built into it makes it tense and rewarding, as you fight to become the last man standing on the map. The maps themselves are well designed and a few really stand out. Dome in particular is tiny, but can be drawn in comparison to Nuketown. It's a fast and frenetic map and one that has become an instant classic. However, there are also maps set in train stations and (of course) war torn villages. There isn't a truly bad map, with each one accommodating to various play styles. But let's talk shooting. It has barely changed from the previous games- in fact, I don't think it has changed at all. The controls and specs are the same, but the new weapons and gear help to change up the experience. It still plays silky smooth and is still buckets of fun. The customization hasn't really changed, with the same Create a Class and killstreaks systems and it keeps the renowned progression and levelling mechanics of the previous entries. There are plenty of options and a lot of content. In short, MW3 is essential if you're one to get addicted to multiplayer easy. However, there is one more section to sum up...

Spec Ops return and they are still challenging, yet addictive. There are multiple new objectives, ranging from obtaining kills, to completing a level in a time limit, to just making it through a section in one piece. They are still perfect for co-op play and split screen is great with a friend. The set piece moments and variety will keep you coming back and the online competition is ripe. But there is still one more mode within this section. While the Chaos mode is DLC focused, Survival is one of the best parts of the game. Many would say that it is basically Zombies with humans, but while the large maps, increasing difficulty, wave based system and starting pistol swing the pendulum into the middle, the levelling system, large amount of unlockables and character variety make it stand out as the more content packed mode. The ability to pick any one of a load of weapons also separates it and while money can be earned, it can buy more than weapons and can also buy you killstreaks and gadgets. Survival is the real standout part of MW3 and playing with a friend is almost essential.

MW3 keeps the money train rolling with an explosive and sincere campaign, brilliant multiplayer, highly replayable Spec Ops and an addictive Survival mode. What it lacks in innovation, it more than makes up for with content and fun. Be prepared to answer the Call of Duty.

This game is great. The campaign had a great plot and new levels. This game adds new things in Special Ops that we never seen before. The multiplayer is great fun and many different game modes you can do. The game is much more easier for new players to understand. The only thing bad about it is there are some bad maps, but in return there are some good ones. This COD is my favorite of them all.

I honestly don't see why it has so many negative reviews. The campaign, characters, content, and graphics (of course, for graphics, keeping in mind when it was made) etc were all great and the game kept you entertained the whole way through. I grew to respect all the characters and enjoyed the missions you do with them. Very enjoyable experience.

Honestly, I think that this is the second best cod game behind cod 4. It has a decent enough campaign, a fun spec ops mode, and mw2s multiplayer without all the be. No overpowered noobtubes, no commando, and no one man army. This game is great.

I give this game a 10 largely because it is the only shooter which has entertained me enough to play through the campaign more than once, and in terms of survival and multiplayer I clocked more hours on this game than any other on the 360 generation (splitscreen survival is great fun with a friend beside you) I feel like that is as good a reason as any for a top review but even if you don't feel it is worth that just ignore the ridiculously low scores and play this game it is well worth your time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Modern Warfare 3 is a good game for the most. Its not terrible what people make it out to be and it is not the greatest Call of Duty to date. After the events of Modern Warfare 2, many fans and I expected to be a sequel since one of the main antagonists, Makorov escaped. I waited so long for this game to come out and I thought it would be better than Modern Warfare 2, however the game is good and very enjoyable to say the least but it falls a little bit short. The campaign feels much shorter than Modern Warfare 2 and the story is not as good as Modern Warfare 2. The campaign feels that it has to tell a story about how to find Makorov and kill him. Once again the main protagonists in the game are OK, but Modern Warfare 3 doesn't add anything to these characters. I found it very sad that Soap or some character that you played as in Modern Warfare 2 dies during the campaign that made me very upset. Even though the campaign is not as good as Modern Warfare 2, it still manages to fun and pretty good. Last the Multiplayer in Modern Warfare 3 is good and bad. The good is it feels faster, there are some new perks that come in handy, some new weapons like the dreaded Type 95, and the way you get killstreaks is a lot better. The bad is the maps are terrible, most of the killstreaks from Modern Warfare 2 are in Modern Warfare 3, and feels very dull and repetitive. With Modern Warfare 3 not living up to the hype and Modern Warfare 2 does it deserve such a horrible rating? I don't think so. The Multiplayer at the time was one of the better shooters out there, and seeing other crappy shooters, I would play this game all day and get throwing knifed in the face than play those crappy shooters. The game is fun, if you enjoy Call of Duty you will like this game. Expand

Spec Ops with the addition of Survival Mode was pretty addicting, albeit why the lack of missions? But of course the multiplayer is what Call of Duty's about. Yes it is dated, yes it is practically the same but it hasn't lost any steam. I actually found the Strike Packages interesting, as I prefer going solo with Specialist which no other game really offers. Story: Modern Warfare 3 has a jumbled story but it gets better towards the end. You play as different soldiers who go on a large romp around the world to stop Vladmir Makarov. I won't give away anything else.

Graphics: They are a step up from previous games but it still feels out of place when you see an American soldier T-bagging a camper in multiplayer.

Gameplay: My favorite part of the Modern Warfare series returns. Qwikscoping still feels good and the pleasure of using an ACR to make people rage returns.

Multiplayer Online: My other favorite part of the series. It is very fun but tends to make you rage really hard when you get sniped when you need that one last kill for an AGM...
    *True Story*

Summary: A great overall game despite the lack of innovation. Infinity ward pulls a fair sequel to Modern Warfare 2 out of the box very nicely in my opinion.

Now lets talk about the multiplayer the true reason for why you bought this game, if you bought this game for the story then sorry but you're a **** idiot. The multiplayer started out really rough for me personally. I got this game on the launch date and expected to be one of the better players, that was not the case. It's funny how people will say that this is a copy paste game but when I, a veteran of the call of duty series started playing online i was overwhelmed by the architecture of the new maps and felt really vulnerable when killstreaks started raining fire down on me and my team-mates. This was before anybody was using blind eye and shooting down the buggers (now alot of people are battleing for the right to take them down). Anyway i started playing barebones to get familiar with the game and cursed the developers for having such overpowered stuff in the support class like the stealth bomber and emp. After a while though i got bored by barebones and decided to give other playlists a change, i was pleasantly surprised when i saw that my team-mates were actually playing the game instead of corner camping and generally acting a fool. So the multiplayer while not that appealing at first hooked me like all of the previous COD games had managed to do. I still dont like some of the multiplayer decisions they made like the strangely unbalanced and cheap supporting class which sounded like a great idea on paper and the incredibly long time that they have needed to get the true elite system in place like the clan challenges that were still not implemented 5 months after release(disgraceful) and here's a thing that really bothered me, when black ops came out the servers were overloaded they said that they had not exptected such activity, now i found this quite strange seeing how the last game in the series was modern warfare 2 and that game sold like hot cakes but i forgave and thought to myself maybe they thought that because it was a new ip in the COD canon but told myself that they would not be moronic enough to make the same excact mistake twice, enter sledgehammer and they pulled the excact same blunder on release, they appoligized and again said that they did not expect so many players and thats when i got a little angry. I know as well as them what license they are working on, black ops broke world records in sale and im not just tallking about in the video game industry im talking about the entertainment industry (movies, music and video games). They did alot of things that pissed me off but for most of the mistakes they did they made up for them and tried to get feedback from the MW3 community on how to better the game. MW3 is sledgehammer games first game and was made in co-operation with the remaining staff of Infinity Ward so please dont call it an Infinity Ward game because it isn't. That beeing said i actually like alot of decisions they made with this one. Specialist killstreaks were a nice addition, weapon levels was a good idea and proficiency also good, i actually dont mind the moab since it rarely happens in a match im playing in, having shotguns as primary weapons again was good the perks were really hit and miss and once again sleight of hand becomes one of the more overpowered perks in the game franchise.

They did not seem active enough in letting fans know when certain features were coming on the elite but this is one of the problems of having to release a new call of duty game every year and thats what fans are pissed about i guess, they dont want games to be released buggy or incomplete and then patched later and i feel like that is a problem that really needs to be adressed within activision, i dont think smart fans mind the wait at all.

Campaign - About 5 hours long, but very exciting in every measure. There were some shocking moments in this campaign and it may be the best in the Modern Warfare series. The game takes place right after Modern Warfare 2 and it's a great conclusion to the trilogy. It's World War 3 and the job is to take out Makarov. 100/100(A+)

Graphics - Not one of the best first person shooter graphics I have seen, but it's still good to look at. The environments and character detail is good and I don't see a reason for a new graphics engine as of yet. It has the best graphics in the Call of Duty series. The graphics still could have been better and I don't see much difference compared to MW2's graphics. I felt that the developers came off kind of lazy. 90/100(A-)

Gameplay - AI is smart and dumb at times which is alright for catastrophe like World War 3, but playing on Hardened or Veteran difficulty is no joke. The game runs smoothly at 60 frames per second and it couldn't be any smoother. You have 4 modes to play within the game. There's Survival Mode which is in the Special Ops mode, Special Ops missions, Campaign and Multiplayer. The games has enough content to keep you going. 100/100(A+)

Multiplayer - The best multiplayer experience ever. It's good if your a team-oriented player or even a loner. It's for everyone because there's 3 different strike packages and one might be best for you. The perks are better, killstreaks are better and the gun selection is better. There's even theater mode to capture you match and you can upload 30 second clips to Facebook. I don't see why YouTube wasn't an option. I just wish there weren't so many modders and glitchers. I definitely wish there weren't so much campers. 90/100(A-)

Playing Time/Content: There's probably not a week that will go by when I won't play this game. Even if I have a really bad match with a very horrible score, I would still play again until I'm done prestiging. You have 4 modes to play within the game. There's Survival Mode which is in the Special Ops mode, Special Ops missions, Campaign and Multiplayer. The games has enough content to keep you going. 100/100(A+)

    Overall Score: 96/100(A+)

To the people who think this is Modern Warfare 2.5 or the same thing over again, it's not. I bet the people complaining about it will still play it or be interested in it. It's part of a series, it's not suppose to change much.

    + Spec Ops Survival
    + A better balanced multiplayer
+ Works with Call of Duty Elite

Call of Duty is hated for no reason, simply because it is popular. Do your resarch Treyarch is trying very hard in every mode to please you guys, and you continue to 'hate' it. (You secretly like it) so grow the balls to give the franchise some love (at least for Black Ops II) and quit the hate. So for all of you saying "Oh, mw3 is just a rehash of previous game x"
It hasn't hurt pokemon, and they do this MUCH, MUCH more than anyone. What makes it bad if it's fun and new things ARE added (contrary to popular belief, there are new things). You'd also have to play the game more than an hour on multiplayer to even notice it feels different. What makes battlefield 3 better then this?

Modern warfare 3 is a great installment to the franchise adding more additions to the franchise then before. Special ops is my favorite its like playing as a master chief in the middle of a battlefield 3 match. Campaign is a bit of a sigh. Multiplayers fun like black ops i like throwing knives better then tomahawks.7.5/10 rounded up to 8.

I'm giving it an 8, because the game has a pretty decent campaign storyline (has to be played on veteran though or it's too easy) The Spec Ops is also pretty good laugh and is challenging at times. As for the multiplayer, 90% of the reviews here seem to be based solely on it, I refuse to play it anymore as it can't compare with TimeSplitters and Goldeneye (Who gives a f**k if the graphicsI'm giving it an 8, because the game has a pretty decent campaign storyline (has to be played on veteran though or it's too easy) The Spec Ops is also pretty good laugh and is challenging at times. This game definetaly deserved more praise then it got, just because it didn't redefine the generation, didn't make it a zero. Solid gameplay mechanics, and a incredible campaign will keep you pushing to the end. The multiplayer is nothing really new, but it has great hit detection, and fast paced maps with new ones coming out all the time. Only a moron would rate this game a zero. This is the first Call of Duty game that I've really played since Modern Warfare 1 so I can't really comment on what it seems to be the repetitiveness of this series.. I'm talking about the people who run around with the riot shield and picking the right moment to light you up. Don't know why, but I find it funny and I'm the one who always die to those people. the multiplayer was much better in MW3, plus lots of fun with the elite( helps you play better as a player in multiplayer.). the game sold over million copies on sales of last year. In my opinion MW3 is one of the best shooters and top 100 favorite games of all time to me.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
