In short, MW3 is a solid game, but not as good as Black Ops. The campaign isn't memorable and multiplayer has it's ups and downs. The survival mode, however, is a lot of fun.

And DICE goes on about the limitations of consoles, yet Naughty Dog proves them wrong by outshining them on PS3 graphically with Uncharted 3, even impressing some PC gamers - I'm sure. I was bored quite abruptly with Battlefield 3, the Single Player campaign was dull and the story was too similar to Black Ops' - the only thing I found any enjoyment in was playing Co-Op with a friend. On MW3 I was actually more impressed with the Presentation than I was expecting, especially considering that everything was running at 60 FPS around the even most intense moments. The rating here is unfair, it's become a trend to hate on something that's popular, and I can't say I'm surprised. There is so much content in this game, and so many hours of enjoyment. In regards to Single Player it ties up the story of the Modern Warfare trilogy, otherwise it's more of the same with lots of improvement, which is not a bad thing really. EA has treated their customers poorly by limiting their game to certain stores, and has said that they are going to ruin the Call Of Duty franchise once and for all like they did with Guitar Hero. So I'm not sure the haters of CoD know who they are following here, because this kind of attitude is damaging to the industry as whole. Expand

The gameplay is of course, the same and offer no new gameplay mechanics but why fix what's not broken and the graphical style has age quite well since MW2. Single player: I thought the single player was much better than Battlefield 3 because I was already emotionally invested on the main characters from COD4 and the set pieces and overall pacing was just better (though the "shock moment" was completely unnecessary and out of context). Multi-player: Same old yet still intense and fun to play and I do like the dog tag collecting after you kill someone, which actually ruins a camper's day and makes the matches more fair. To be honest, it's still the same as the other COD games but it's kind of pointless to bash it for its lack of originality because its not the only game franchise that has used their formula over and over again . MW3 is fun to play overall. The single player is fun but it does not have a good replay value like COD4 had and the multi-player is still as intense and mindlessly fun since the previous games. It's Modern Warfare 2.5. Still the best first person shooter multiplayer on the market. Still one of the worst campaign modes of any game. If you liked the other games in the Call of Duty series, you'll like MW3. In my opinion the maps are getting a bit repetitive. It feels like they're taking bits and pieces from older maps and combining them. It's fun, but it's not as innovative as the previous chapters.

MW3 is the more balanced game, and may be the most balanced COD title to date. The game has a bit more detail as far as graphics go. Less explosive damage is a welcome addition to MW3, as well as no commando. Nice weapon balance (apart from the Type 95, and the Striker). On a negative note, the maps are crap. They're the campiest maps ive ever played, and they are flat out boring aside from hardhat, village & dome. Lack of innovation, & poor map design drops my rating for this game to a 7. It picks up exactly where MW2 left off with Russia attacking the United States and Captain Price and Captain Mactavish escaping Afghanistan after "murdering" General Shepherd. The story take you on a roller coaster ride around the world including places such as New York, Siberia and Somalia. You play as multiple characters that are a part of the infamous 'Task Force 141', a US Army Delta Force operative, A member of the Special Air Service (SAS), and as a presidential bodyguard. The single player is heavily scripted, but it is extremely entertaining throughout. One moment in particular puts you in an AC-130 gunship as one moment, and then fly's you down to the ground to play in your traditional FPS perspective. If you're not really interested in the single play campaign, MW3 and a huge multiplayer and cooperative suite bursting at the seams with content. You and a friend can team up and the the traditional 'Specs Ops' missions that were featured in Modern Warfare 2, or you can play the new 'Specs Ops Survival' mode. Survival mode puts you a multiplayer map of your choosing against wave after waved of heavily armed combatants. You can weapons to use (which you can also upgrade), close air support (airstrikes, A.I controlled Delta Force Squad), and explosives (C4 packs, claymores).

But what you're probably here for is the multiplayer.

The multiplayer features your traditional 'Call of Duty' staples including create a class, kill streak rewards and perks. Create and class allows you to customize your own load out to take into battle. You can choose what weapons to take in to battle, and also allows you to choose perks, which are special abilities that you can unlock and use on your multiplayer character. The kill streak rewards are now known as 'Strike Packages'. There are three types of 'Strike Package', assault, support, and specialist. The assault package includes the traditional kill streak rewards such as predator missile and AC-130 gunships, and they reset upon your death. The support package includes defensive rewards such as UAV's and recon drones. The most interest 'Strike Package' is the specialist package. The specialist package allows you to trade in your traditional rewards in for perks. A decent player can earn every perk in the game, and dominate with them.

Now for the final part of my review, the balancing. Modern Warfare 3 was promised to be the most balanced 'Call of Duty' game to date, and I have to disagree. Weapons do way to much damage and the map still cater too much to camping. The maps have bad flow which causes things to not go as you would want them to go. People can still spawn right behind you and stick a knife in your back, not something you want to happen in a multiplayer game.

Not to mention that the campaign still doesn't crack the 8 hour mark, even on hardened, and Activision proves once again they are full of garbage when they say they focus on both campaign and multiplayer. On a side note, when confronted with rumors about pulling on people from other Activision development teams outside of Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward to finish the game on time and continue their "once a year" release schedule, they denied it all the way through and then in the credits, you see thanks to people from Neversoft, Raven, and Treyarch. On November 8th 2011 a game released and it changed the world. The game I'm talking aboutt is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. The series is known primarily for its competitive multiplayer and its lackluster single-player. Many of us are hoping for a change in the formula but lets see if we got one.

I will start first with the single player. This campaign is similar in its approach as mw2, lots of crazy action moments and shallow characters. The campaign is short and takes about 4-5 hours to beat and subpar story and character development. The campain has you taking over many different characters from different military organizations and you are battling in many different fields of war such as NYC and France. The story takes place directly after the events of mw2 so it is reccomended to play mw2 first if possible. I dont want to go too much into detail with the single-player as I dont want to reveal too much. So basically if you buy this game it will do you no harm to go through the single-player just exspect to see lots of explotions and action scenes with a forgetfull COD story.

The newest addition to the COD series is a new spec-ops survival mode which has you taking on infinate waves of increasingly difficult enemies. The mode allows you to purchase weapons with custom attachments, equipment such as c4 and frags, and also riot shield teams and perks all bought with in-game currency you earn for getting kills and completing wave challenges. What is good about spec ops is there is now online matchmaking so you will always have someone to play with. There is also a new spec-ops rank completly seperate from your competitive rank that allows you to have the oppertunity to buy better gear in-game. The mission mode has returned in mw3 letting you and one friend take on a number of different missions where you also gain xp for you spec-ops rank. Together both the mission and survival spec-op modes add days of exciting content to a game that already has alot of content.

Now to disscuss the thing that many of you will be spending days, maybe weeks playing, the competitive mulitplayer. There are 80 levels per prestige level and there are 10 presitge levels giving us tons of hours of replay value. There are alot of new additions to the competitive and they all make the core experience of online vary depending on how you like to play. Instead of just selecting killstreaks like in mw2, in mw3 you have to choose your strike package whice lets includes assault which is for gamers who like offensive killstreaks. There is the support package that is for the gamers who want to support their team with UAV's and other items. One thing that makes the support package different is the kills you get stay even if you die making it ideal for inexperienced players. Completing an objective also adds to your killstreak. The final strike package is the specialist package ideal lone wolves and kills are rewarded with additional perks. You may choose a seperate strike package per custom class. When you presitge you gain a prestige token which you can use to purchase additional custom classes, or unlock gear straight from the start. This makes each time you prestige more unique. There is also alot more gear you can take with you instead of flashbangs, now you can take trophy systems and other gear. A new major addition is weapon levels which is how you unlock new attachments for you guns. It is a seperate level for each gun that levels up by getting kills with it, and at each new level you unlock attachments, camo, or weapon proficiency like less recoil or faster melee. Please note that this is a COD game and in most occasions suffers from extreme balancing issues and a very large hit box. The shooting mechanics are good and the graphics are on the lower end of the spectrum compared to its major competetors. The game also feels too noob friendly and extremly easy to excell in. The game is also filled with many people who like to camp and cheat. There is also an attachment for the m14 assault rifle that is semi attomatic but makes it have less recoil when using a rapid-fire mod. The game is fun online and it had alot of value but if you were expecting a change in the formula, its not here. The game is unblanced in its core and the series needs an overhaul. Activision needs to change the series because it is killing itself. It may be good enough for the casuals but the hardcore are losing interest. You need to change the series like you did with COD4 or else it will be too late. The world is waiting for change, please Activision, dont make us wait any longer. With Black Ops 2 blow us away because this game just didnt.

After Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer was where the Call of Duty series was at. Following past Call of Duty titles, Modern Warfare 3 seems to try to push everything from the singleplayer campaign to the multiplayer in the form of killstreaks, which are as crazy as ever. The multiplayer mode was addictive and I found myself enjoying new modes like Kill Confirmed, but being a PC Battlefield player I found the fact that you don't know where the enemy is half the time and the constant sprinting annoying (I've never not known where the enemy is or needed to sprint for really long distances that much in Battlefield 3 on the PC). However, the multiplayer was a step up from Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops, though it failed to improve on Call of Duty 4 chiefly because of all the gimmicks that as well as being useless were sometimes discouraging. Whenever I got a deathstreak I always thought 'I must be going badly', and I started dying even more.
So to sum it all up, Modern Warfare 3 is worth a bit of your time, but if you have a decent PC then I'd go with Battlefield 3.

This game is so widespread that Activision could have forced the developers to start completely from scratch and make a new kind of CoD and people would still find reasons to hate it. The fact of it is, CoD outsells itself as the highest-selling game of all time year after year, and that's for a reason. The vocal haters of CoD are in the minority, by far. Activision knows that, and they now that they are guaranteed money if they just tweak the formula and offer players *just* enough incentive to come back. Seeing as how most of the millions upon millions of gamers to buy MW3 will be casuals who want nothing but a game to play in their spare time, that idea makes sense. I was a huge CoD4:MW fan, and my interest in the series has diminished (as is the case with many of you) over the past few installments. I've been playing MW3 but won't buy it for myself for a long time. The spec ops is more of the same, but i enjoyed it in mw2 and here as well, some really good co-op, in small speedy bursts unfortunately the multiplayer is terrible, the main problem is the lag compensation system that makes it so bad connections have a chance (in defense of it though, it tries to make the game fair because in previous cods you may have thought you were the better shot but you probably had the better connection) the gun and attachment selection is ok, some weapons are obviously superior to others and the games end fast, the maps don't flow like previous games but the do try to eliminate camping Expand

it's pretty much the same thing you've grown accustomed to seeing in a CoD game. Innovation and huge improvements are at a minimum. It appears to be a battle of who can have the shortest campaign in a FPS because each installment downgrades the importance of a SP in a MP themed game. To each their own in that regard.

Now Modern Warfare 3 to me just seems incomplete. The story is shorter, and much of the same, run here, shoot that, blow this up, get in this vehicle, rinse and repeat, which im fine with, dont get me wrong its mindless fun, no need to think just shoot. But i just cant get into Modern Warfare 3. The multiplayer is stale, it doesn't improve anything, or fix and issues that where big issues through out the series. It feels as if they have taken a step backwards. I understand if your good at something, really good at something, you keep it going but after a certain point what your good at becomes subpar and you weaknesses are exposed, and that weakness is change. In a marked flooded with similar FPS experiences you would think to break the mold, switch it up, change how we play and FPS. Modern Warfare 3 plays it safe and gives you a reboot of what was successful in Modern Warfare 2. Which to me is a shame because there is so much potential in this series and it is sad that a group as talented as Infinity Ward can only give you what they have already given you years ago. People are going to buy this game because it has Call of Duty written on it, critics are going to review this game with high remarks because it has Call of Duty written on it. Take away the call of duty label and what do you have? a sub par shooter that fails to give you anything more then what is predecessors gave you, a story that leaves a bad taste in your mouth, a spec ops mode that was thrown together on a whim, and a multiplayer that is too scared to try something new and get old very fast, faster then any mutliplayer before it. Finally, in the huge debate between Battlefield, and Cod. Each game does what they do best, cod is frantic gunplay in close quarters that forces you to stay on you toes, Battlefield is a large play area that focuses more on staying alive and strategy and vehicle play. Each game draws a different crowd. But dont rate Modern Warfare 3 because its not battlefield or its not as good, its not ment to be battlefield, its not ment to play like battlefield, its ment to be an FPS that is unique and delivers a large amount of action, but falls short of that goal by giving you the same shooter, the same story and the same everything. its not worth a 10 and its certainly not worth a 1. its a 7 at best. If your unsure Gamefly it, Red Box it, or wait til its black friday to grab it at the price its worth, 30$. Expand

There are generally not much changes to this game, which makes me think IW barely put effort to this final chapter in the MW series. Fortunately, the multiplayer, even if identical, is still nice, with new rules like dog-tags (no more campers). I personally think that it is even better than Black Op's multiplayer, and a little less broken. The single player is fun too, but the story isn't much to remember. The ending (don't worry, I won't spoil) is satisfying, but is also the worst out of the 3 MW games. The gameplay has somewhat of a twist to it with new settings and such, like NY, but nothing that blows your mind. I do think the single player is better than Black Ops, though, not looking like a Michael Bay movie during the COLD WAR. Co-op is, as always, fun, but I really enjoy the new survival mode, because playing with your friends on xbox live (or psn or steam) is that much fun. Overall, if you are tired of the CoD gameplay, than skip this title, but if you are a CoD fanboy or a newcomer to the franchise, pick this up, because its not that bad. Expand

If they had changed things about the game, you would just get people raging about how it has changed too much! They kept the game similar because the older games WORKED. They had a huge fanbase and the multiplayer was good because there were always plenty of players to play games with. Sure, Activision are basically a bunch of money grabbing ****** who just want games pumped out as fast as possible but that doesn't necessarily mean that the game is bad. I found the game to have very fun multiplayer that seemed to be a touched up version of MW1/MW2. Another view that people should be taking on this is that there are many people who don't own MW2 or MW1. These people may want to purchase this game and your negative "It's no different" attitude is putting these people off purchasing it, all because you are under the impression that a game that is very well done must be completely changed just because it is a new title. Look at Halo for example. Halo 3 was a huge success with a large fanbase. With the release of Halo Reach, many people disliked it due to it's huge changes in gameplay. This could have easily happened to Modern Warfare and i can see why they kept it similar. Also, there were many people complaining that the campaign was too short or not good enough. I found it hard to believe that there were people who seemed to buy a Call of Duty game for the campaign. Military FPS campaigns tend to always be well below average in my opinion and if you want a FPS singleplayer game i would recomend playing something like Bioshock and to stop ripping on a game that is almost entirely focused on multiplayer for its campaign.

The campaign doesn't bring anything too new to the table, but thats doesn't take away from the fact its a fun story to play through filled with some exciting (although, predictable) set piece moments. In terms of co-op, I actually enjoyed spec ops more here in MW3 more than in MW2. At least in MW3 they actually feel like missions rather than challenges or something. Finally, there is the multiplayer, which is what the majority of buyers buy Call of Duty for. Odds are if you enjoyed MW2's multiplayer, your going to enjoy MW3's. The money system from Black Ops is gone, so your back to having to work to get all the attachments/camos for the guns. The maps sometimes feel cramped or too large, but still deliver the action that your used to. In short, MW3 doesn't change anything. So far I've enjoyed the game (campaign and multi-player), yes it didn't wow me like the first MW did - but I'm not buying this game expecting a revolutionary experience - I'm buying this game expecting a solid all-round FPS and in that MW3 delivers. If you take away all the anti hype and (Battlefield?) fanboyism which is driving these low user scores - anyone would see - no one in their right mind could give this game a 0?? That's just crazy. I'd bet half of these negative reviews are the ones that have already prestiged a couple of times over and will be still playing online this time next year. Look at all the other AAA sequels and name me one that doesn't copy the core game play mechanics from the original (Halo, Gears, Bioshock, Battlefield, Elder Scrolls etc etc.....). A fair score for this game is 7-8. Yes COD is Activision's cash cow - if you have a problem with that then give Activision a 0.

The gunplay in the singleplayer seems to be a lot like whack a mole, with you trying to shoot the bad guys before they pop into cover, without much variation.

For a lot of people, the main meat of the game is in it's multiplayer. This mode contains your standard modes of play such as deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, and so on. You get perks, which are like attributes that improve your abilities in certain areas, like sleight of hand which makes you reload faster. You also get certain "streaks" which are rewards for doing well. An example would be killing three people in a row and receiving a "UAV", and this UAV grants you the ability to check a minimap for the location of your foes. You can also get "streaks" for doing various teamwork related actions.

A third mode is the "Spec Ops" mode where you can attempt a few challenges either alone or with one friend. There is survival mode within this mode, where you fight wave after wave of enemies for as long as you can, while being able to buy upgrades and other weapons between and during waves to heighten your chances of survival. It's basically like the game Killing Floor with some more running. The other chunk of spec ops is a bunch of varied challenges, like "kill these targets within a certain time to receive stars" or "collect these samples". The stars you receive allow you to unlock more challenges, and playing the challenges on higher difficulties rewards you with even more stars.

Now, I can't give this game two ratings, but I'd like to. If this is your first time playing a game in the Call of Duty series, I'd give it an 8. If you have played games in this series before, 6, because it is very similar to the earlier ones.

    I have been awaiting the arrival of MW3 for ages, and in my personal opinion I am really enjoying it, there are pros and cons to every game out there but I still believe the pros to this game outweigh the cons;

1: Campaign - Now I haven't played much of the single player being a fan of the multiplayer aspect. BUT from the offset the game has thrown you into a very visually impressive location, (despite the dated engine it is run on) they have made the best use of the tech they are using, the story mode has never been long and to be honest I quite like it as the story doesn't outstay its welcome. Although I would like a longer campaign to immerse myself into I'd be worried that Sledgehammer/Infinity Ward would be fluffing the campaign with un needed levels that would essentially bore a person, or leave them a little confused! Campaign = 5/10 - little short, but spectacular visuals (despite tech)

2: Spec Ops - ok I see where most people are coming from here, Zombies was fun very much enjoyed it especially with 3 of your mates joining in the amusement, Spec Ops Survival I feel is a little more focused, so does take away the "party" feel about it. but I personally prefer the focused team work and the joint need to work together to get to the next wave. the missions are fun and do test the players ability to work as a team. I'd have liked to have seen a little story to the mission modes rather than random scenarios but all in all a good way to waste time when there are only 2 of you online. again my personal opinion is that while Zombies it a great game, the Spec op Survival and missions allow a more focused team game and feels a little more "hardcore".

Spec Ops = 7/10 a fun focused team based game, feels like a game in its own right.

3: Multiplayer - I have lost MANY hours to MW2 and have enjoyed every second of it! MW3 should be no different. The maps are cleverly manufactered to allow for a more skirmish based gaming experience. I absolutely LOVE the idea of Support streaks that allow the not so amazing shooters to feel they are achieving something while playing! I like that they have kept the basic concept of levelling up from MW2 and that they have made prestiging a longer task. the only negative I can come up with at this time is that the game itself is not visually different, (nephew walks into room - "oh you are playing MW2" "No this is MW3" "Oh it looks the same" hmmm not a goo thing to hear really? bit like buying an iphone 4s. Great idea but they look exactly the same as the iphone 4... how is that going to show people that your phone is better than theirs if they look the same. Same as MW2 and MW3, an upgraded game which you can see when you are playing the game with the tweaks they have put into it. but as a spectator or someone walking past they wouldn't be able to tell this is a new game! other than that I love it. Love the maps and still have as always the COD bug

Multiplayer = 7/10 - Love the whole experience, but how can people walking into you room know you are better than them for owning the newest CODMW?

The first 4 hours of play I just didn't feel the excitement I usually get when I start a new cod game.
The graphics are pleasing to look at but you can tell we are now reaching the limits of the current consoles capabilities.there are a lot of blocky textures and most Walls for example look very plain and not unweathered.Close ups of vehicles reveal things like door lines looking like they were drawn by hand with a felt tip pen and no ruler.
The disappointing part for me was checking out all the maps.On the plus side we have sixteen of them which is quite generous, but I found it hard to remember them by name as most of them look very similar to each other.
The only map that stood out for me is village. It is a medium size map that looks vibrant and is laid out in a way that would keep most types of class happy. The rest however are small and with nothing but lots of close quarters combat. This suits my style of play but the days of kicking back for a relaxing sniper session are gone.
A nice small addition is the prestige shop.if you prestiged in other cod's you receive a token for each game.there are some genuinely useful things here like receiving double xp for 2 hours, buy an extra class and even a total stat reset.
Connection wise it's business as usual, with a lot of laggy lobbies. You will often fire at someone only for them to kill you, then on their screen you won't have fired a single shot. But when in a good lobby it flows well. You shouldn't however expect the lag to improve as time goes by as it is what it is,and if we were going to get a lag free cod it would have happened by now. It's not worse than the last 2 games though. In my opinion world at war worked the best for me as I found keeping the search set to local gave me a good connection most of the time.
I can't comment on the single player as I haven't played through it yet but going on what most people have said it looks pretty good and I look forward to playing it.
I honestly think most of us,me included have been expecting to much to come from mw3 and therefore feel disappointed, and in some ways rightly so.I also understand why the reviews were held back until launch day.
Another thing worth thinking about is had they changed the game dramatically to try and make the game different they could have ruined it and it's probably too much of a risk.
What we have here then is just another shooter and they have just played it safe.Die hard fans like me with still hammer the game through multiplayer but it's no secret that most are a bit disappointed with it.

I decided to write this review because one of the developers have asked us,the public on ign to come on here as they feel the overall user score is very low and they want people to be honest. So here it is,my personal opinion,a 7 out of 10.

It's unoriginal, and nothing more then what people could've expected... The multiplayer had some overhauling but not all that much.

I know many like myself were looking forward to the continuation of the Modern Warfare storyline, instead we were helped to a heaping mass of unrelated cold war era warfare. Black Op's success was related DIRECTLY to the success of modern warfare. People did not simply say they were playing Black Ops, but they were saying that they were playing a Call Of Duty game. Activision had a golden ticket to use with the same engine and they used it on Black Ops. On the heels of a reinvigorated Battlefield 3 with the new frostbite engine, Activision had NO choice but to do some re-invention of their own or face being shadowed by the new "Oohs and Ahhs". The single player campaign is still worthy of a Hollywood award and although the soundtrack falls a bit flat compared to Warfare 2's masterpiece, it still works to add emotion.

Modern Warfare 3 is a gem that could have made an impact had it come before Black Op's however with new pretty engines coming out for most newer offerings this year many people find it difficult to enjoy the game as much they did Black Ops.

Until the team develops a new way to show off the franchise, it is no longer the king of the genre.

I'd hate to say it but if they plan on continuing their annual release schedule they are going to definitely need to develop a new engine that rivals the frostbite or this could spell the end of the trendy age of Call Of Duty..

Maps are small too small at times. Guns at the beginning of the games are pretty lame same old junk. Until level 42. Otherwise though it's still a fun game. A little upset 3rd person is gone. I'm satisfied with the kills streaks very balanced. It all just comes down to pumping a guy with 10-20 bullets for him to stand still a take a Barrett quick scope and I die in one shot. Never cares for quick scoping it doesn't take skill like some say. It's a game breaker for sure. I love drop shots but there seems to be a lag when actually goin prone. I'm very competitive online. I play with the same 6 man crew search and destroy since black ops. And we are good players good stats but we will lose to a bunch of randoms at time people the game chose a shoddy host with poor connection enemies start sponging bullet damage and just turn n spray n I'll die. It's a little frustrating to run up on a guy for him to turn and blind fire and I die in what seems like 2 bullets and the kill cam shows I didnt even shoot. That is unacceptable for a competitive online game. Battlefield hit detection is pretty spot on when the servers run smoothly. There's no choice to not play the same map every time u join a new lobby and can't filter searches by connection. These are major things that need to be addresses. Matchmaking is a thing of the past for new players but for vets it must be taking into consideration. And not in 2 years from now when cod 9 comes. I play to win and the game doesn't allow it at times. And with a connection of 35/35 I think that I would be host more often and actually have smooth gameplay. Bf3 doesn't have these problems only thing I dislike is they only have Respawn modes. Idk the game is on track just needs major updates. Expand

That being said, the multiplayer has much left to be desired. The maps are tiny and full of NoobTubers. Levels are setup for massive sniping kills (which is fine if you snipe, MOST players don't) and game modes are not impressive.

I don't think it's fair to expect a "whole new gaming experience" from the Modern Warfare series. It's still a Call of Duty game. Why does every expect it to be so different all of a sudden? If you liked MW2, you'll have fun with this game.

The game gets a 7 in my opinion because the campaign is enjoyable. It, in my opinion is the best of the "trilogy". I played through on Hardened and had to play through again on Veteran. It was an awesome, cinematic, action packed campaign. Short, though.

The multiplayer is the same old stuff, though. It really is. People are within their rights to refer to it as MW2.5 when it comes to the multiplayer. It's time to take a leap in some other direction IW/Treyarch!

You'd think with all the money this franchise brings in (9.3 million first day sales) that they could throw a few dedicated servers our way. As long as someone with basic Internet (I'm looking at you DSL for 19.99/mo) can host a match, the obvious issues will never go away.

So that's it from me. The game works, the campaign is well worth the (short) time. The multiplayer might as well be any of the last few Call of Duty games.

There is an entire category of gamers that fall under the twitchy trigger finger shooter category, you show them a different game and they will want nothing to do with it. COD is all they want, and for this kind of person this game is probably a wise choice.

The campaign is fun, the multiplayer I really have lost intrest in. It seems harsh, but it's true, I poured many hours into COD4s and MW2s mutliplayers, I thought they were both great games. Black Ops got boring too fast, but that's not because it wasn't a good game, it was just the same old stuff. MW3, as a multiplayer game has lost my intrest, to be fair the entire COD franchise as a multiplayer series has lost my intrest since I started playing BC2.

Now i like the game because it has that because both those games are great but comparing it to the work that they put into there other games its a joke. Also spec ops and survival is great but gets boring with just two players after a while.
I'm giving it a 7/10 because it has a good campaign with a solid multiplayer however lacks the fresh feeling of the previous Modern warfare games

The Missions are longer than MW2 and this time around can be played with anyone online, Not just friends.
You cant review a Call of Duty game without escaping the Quickscoping and Camp fest that is Multiplayer.
Straight away you can tell it has had more love and attention than Single player and Spec Ops but has it payed off....
No it hasn't to be honest. A lot of the guns seem under powered and those EVIL Quickscopers are still there with their stupid ways of getting easy kills. My biggest gripe with MW3 MP is the game modes like One in a Chamber, Gun Game and Infection are for PRIVATE MATCH ONLY. Which is a shame because if Black Ops had one thing over MW2 (Apart from Zombies) was the different types of game modes available to play with people all over the world.
Sure the engine feels outdated and Elite is Broke. But if you want to know how WW3 ends you need this game.....

It was a blast to play with my sister, but i doubt it will stay fun for long to to the repitive nature of the mode. i would recomend to ll people who are thinking about buying the game to rent it first, because the multiplayer is very hit and miss. As i did not play the campaign i am only basing this review over the multiplayer and spec-ops. Overall this game is average, but not terrible. Its filler for a Friday night when I am tired of listening to Emo 15 year olds ramble & whine through my ear phones as I plaster with my SCAR. Multiplayer is solid, I have enjoyed the new maps, especially enjoy playing Kill Confirmed. I am very disappointed with the ELITE. I went Premium, I am paying for a service, I expect to get what I paid for. Activision needs to prioritize paying members like me over free accounts. In the end, taxed servers, 350 people in line in the cold at midnite, and 6.5 million copies of a game does not = ratings less then 5 or above... I only played this game for 2 days, but I can agree fully with some people here. MW3 would be more of an add-on than a full game. There are no innovations in terms of gameplay, the layout resembles Black Ops and one cannot play well the game in a calm and tactical way. Still very fast and arcade, good to spend some time, but unworthy of more than 7 points.

I've enjoyed Call of Duty since I first played COD2 on the 360 all those years ago. For me personally, after COD4, the series has gone downhill for me - a lack of new innovative features and tiring gameplay meant I had very little expectations for MW3.

The game itself is a mixed bag - if you're a massive COD fan, you've already made your mind up or already have this game. If you're not a COD fan, this won't change your mind about it. MW3 does very little different when compared to previous versions (a couple of new multiplayer modes and "revamped" killstreaks aren't enough) but I suppose it doesn't need to based on the popularity of the series, especially with the casual gaming crowd. However, the single player campaign is definitely one of the strongest in recent years, probably since the original MW. It has plenty going on, massive set pieces and a solid enough story with a couple of twists. There's very little downtime in the campaign, giving it a very exhilarating feel. It's as polished as ever and has the production values of a big summer blockbuster. For those who care, it easily trumps BF3's campaign.

Multiplayer was the big disappointment for me, and the reason I'm trading it in. There's nothing new introduced into multiplayer, aside from previously mentioned killstreaks and modes. And for me personally, I find the maps to be quite poor, no real memorable ones that stick in the mind. If you love COD multiplayer, then there's no doubt this is more of the same goodness. If you're not, or if you're tiring of it (as I am) then it isn't going to help you change your mind regarding it.

Overall, it's a solid game but fails to add anything new to it, which is a major downside. Plenty of user reviews have slated it for this, giving it 0 out of 10 etc, which to be honest I think is harsh. It's not the masterpiece that so many publications have described it as but at the same time, it's definitely not the abomination that so many users believe it to be.

The multiplayer, being the core reason most people will buy the game, is very similar to MW2, and took out a lot of the things Black Ops had (credit system, the way the killstreaks work), which makes sense given the transition in developers between games. My biggest complaint regarding the maps is many of them are flat, yet have so many corners that it is almost impossible to not just spray and pray around every corner just to protect yourself. I'm assuming that means IW is taking the DLC route to address this with better maps. Still, it doesn't deserve the score it is getting from many, its a competent shooter and deserves a play through if you want some quick action in your FPS games. Expand

I was really excited about Black Ops but in comparison to MW2 it was a horrible game. Black Ops took away many of the things that made MW2 great. All the weapons seemed to be vastly under powered and it felt like it took 10 rounds or more to get a kill with an assault rifle. On to MW3. If you enjoyed MW2 you will be annoyed by a number of things that they either took away or split up so you have to decide to have parts of what you would have had. For example, I used to use Slight of Hand Pro as my first perk in MW2. It gave you faster reload, faster swapping weapons and faster ADS (aiming down sights). In MW3 you can have Slight of Hand as your first perk but you only get faster reload and faster swapping weapons. If you want faster ADS you have to choose Quick Draw as your second perk. We'll come back to this in a minute....

In MW2 I used to have a shotgun as my secondary. MW3 followed Black Ops lead in not allowing a shotgun as a secondary. The only way that I can have a shotgun along with my assault rifle is if I choose Overkill as my second perk which allows me to carry a second primary weapon. So, do I choose Quickdraw for the faster ADS or Overkill for my secondary shotgun? Other aspects include some things I miss and others I don't. -In MW3 they added a lot of sway to your gun when looking down the sights, more than what you would experience in real life. In MW2 if you aimed at something it wouldn't sway even a pixel (which I loved).

-I don't miss Commando (as I never used it and would always get frustrated that someone would lunge 15 feet to stab me).

-I do miss Stopping Power because I feel like it takes too many rounds to kill someone. -I do miss the fact that Scavenger won't allow you to pick up more Claymores. -I have mixed feelings about not having OMA (One Man Army) because of all the people that used it to keep reloading the grenade launcher. I would use it on occasion to replenish ammo on a Scar-H that didn't have much ammo to start with or to replenish Claymores. -Explosives are WEAK! (especially the grenade launcher)

-Maps are horrible! MW2 had so many multiple level buildings and maps with open spaces. MW3 just uses corridors with multiple entrances and it makes it feel claustrophobic.

-Spawning placement is horrible. It seems like every time I kill someone I immediately get shot in the back. Every time I spawn I feel like I get to shoot an enemy in the back. I thought I was crazy at first but my friends mentioned the same thing and then I read other reviews on here mentioning the same issue.

This game feels more like Black Ops than another Modern Warfare although its no where close to as bad as Black Ops. I told myself I would level up and give this game a shot. I just hit level 80 and I'm going to continue to level up a few more weapons but I feel myself wanting to return to MW2. Hope this helps!

So the explosions feels very numbed and when a certain huge explosion happens you dont care.

The "point streaks" in the game really do seem pointless as well seeing as for some of the best rewards in the game like "juggernaut" require 18 points in total as long as you stick with the same class. When you are playing a game like "HQ" who isn't going to get 18 points in one game? This means that you have about 6 people running around in juggernaut suits which defeats the object of a reward if it is so easy to get. One thing I can't bad mouth about this game is the campaign as I found it enjoyable even on the "Veteran" difficulty but I thought the special ops missions were very boring and tedious.

Overall, MW3 is a decent entry in the series, although it lacks some of the coherence of earlier installments. While MW2 and, to an extent, MW, set up clearly delineated plots following individuals through effective story arcs, MW3 bounces around a little too much, taking you to exotic locales, certainly, but seemingly only because they wanted to be able to say the game takes place in the US, Paris, London, and everywhere else. The resolution to a major series arc, the invasion of the US, is rushed and largely ignored. The campaign is chaotically structured, which helps keep the player off-balance, but also prevents a large degree of emotional investment in any of the played characters or, for that matter, the situation the world is in.
That said, the gameplay is solid, just as it was in MW2. This is no accident; no substantial changes occurred to the engine, so MW2 players will be able to pick up MW3 without any difficulty at all. The game is relatively entertaining and provides enough variety to keep your interest through its campaign.
Unfortunately, that doesn't mean much. The campaign is depressingly short, about eight hours. For a $60 game, this is too short by half, shorter even than MW2. In truth, it feels more like a long DLC rather than an installment in the series. For campaign players, though, it's a solid game, good adventure, and has enough spice to make it fun. It is on the short side, but manages to close the story without feeling rushed. Consider waiting until prices fall somewhat, though, if you're not keen on multiplayer.

Modern Warfare 3 is also leagues better than the awful Black Ops and World at War. The multiplayer is still fun and stylish like the previous installments of Modern Warfare were. The story is still as over the top as ever and is quite enjoyable. (More so than Battlefield 3 for sure) Spec Ops is still a fun little addition to the game that got a lot of love in innovative new scenarios that are a bit more interesting and challenging than the previous go round. Now, having that said I can see why people are complaining that this game is not innovative. It is not innovative. That is my only complaint about this game and hopefully the next Call of Duty will add something more. The novelty of the Call of Duty series is slowly dying away. Expand

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
