The game drops players into heart-pumping racing action with 20 cars on a track all targeting the finish line and battling each other as they trade paint and collect intense power-ups, including the ability to blast other cars out of the way with huge bursts of energy, boost their speed, and more. Gamers can use offensive and defensive attacks as they battle for the lead and careen through real-world track locations ranging from L.A. and San Francisco to the streets of Hackney, UK and the treacherous roads of Barcelona, Spain. Beyond the action-packed racing filled with fast curves, sneaky alternate routes, hair-raising jumps and fully realized damage models that provide for spectacular crashes, Blur’s narrative is presented through Bizarre’s new community-based interface, reaching far beyond the game itself. This unique story-driving social network evolves dynamically as players compete in different races, make new friends, rivals and fans, and connect with other racers both in-game and in real life. Looking beyond Blur's single player story, gamers can engage in competitive and team-based multiplayer races with up to 20 players online, or on a single console via 4-player split-screen. Bizarre has also introduced Blur’s original social gaming experience - Custom Groups, where anyone can create unique multiplayer modes based on their favorite ways to play the game. These new modes are immediately shared through Blur’s social network, expanding the game in ways that are only limited by the gaming community’s creativity. [Activision] Expand

  1. Blur's mix of strategy-based power-ups, load-out menus, and largely varied challenges really make this game a must for all automotive fans. In a genre this oversaturated, it is good to know that there is still some innovation left.

Blur's an amazing Frankenstein of a game, sewing together the best bits of the Project Gotham series with the Mario Kart formula, the result a game that's completely unique.
  3. A deep and satisfying racing game that's accessible to all - but the sequel will have a clearer vision.

Blur is an attractive, intense, fast and thrilling game. It's built over a solid structure, and has a more than satisfying depth.
  5. Bizarre has produced an excellent mix of Mario Kart, Wipeout and Project Gotham Racing. Not very original, but incredibly fun.
  6. On the whole however, it's hard to resist the basic level of fun that Blur's overall design attributes bring about.

The finest arcade racer ever made.

Blur is ten levels above any Mario Kart. In a perfect world it would have sold more than any Mario Kart too. The AI is extremely well-balanced and refined. It doesn't frustrate like Mario Kart. The game rewards good driving and good strategy and is a blast to play with friends or solo. Up to 4-player splitscreen just adds to the fun offline. As you progress the game is plenty challenging too.

Like the developers (Bizarre Creations) said in interviews, they wanted to put the fun back into racing. They totally achieved their goal.

Unfortunately they chose to embed State-endorsed social networking spyware features in the game, which is my only real complaint. I guess some people within the company decided that it would be a great way for people to get word out about the game on these filthy social networks. I detest them and I wish the code wasn't embedded in the game (even if I don't use the features). Oh well. Anyway, that might be a minor point.

Blur's art style is fantastic. The Power-Ups really contrast with the environments and the lights glow in their characteristic glow. The particle effects add to the chaos. The sound design is masterful: every power-up sound, car sound and surface noise is sonically perfect. Even the music feels like part of the game rather than 'bolted-on' and annoying, like we see with so many other games.

Blur was released in May 2010. This review is written in April 2017, so it has been almost 7 years since the game was released. Despite the time that has passed, I have yet to see any racing game that comes close to the feeling I get from Blur, and I doubt I ever will.

This is Bizarre Creations' finest work. A very accessible and fun racer that goes above-and-beyond anything they have produced in the past. An absolute masterpiece.

Any game that has you saying 'just one more race' and then realising that daylight is coming out of the curtains after a long night playingAny game that has you saying 'just one more race' and then realising that daylight is coming out of the curtains after a long night playing has to be given a good score. Online is highly addictive, and while it may be a small population, every player is friendly and competitive in all the right amounts. Dive in to a game that deserved better, but even without the tragic history aspect its a fast paced, action packed racer that has little for simulation fans, but anyone after pure fun will find it here. Well worth a purchase. Expand

It might be intimidating to newcomers in the genre but pass that and this is one of the most addictive racing games ever. Of course you'll be attacking adversaries from front and back with several unique weapons designed to rid the landscape of cars in your wake. The career is demanding but is strewn with awesome event types, though they're not as inventive as Split/Second's. Packed races are an awful lot of fun and are extremely hectic and multiplayer is immense. if you had to choose from either this or Split/Second, go with Blur, there is so much more here and it's fantastic and addictive to boot.
