Sound design is amongst the best in video games, seriously listen to a wall collapse near you, it's unreal. Especially when boosted by a pair of nice headphones. The game is absolutely beautiful, and the high res pack solves all graphical problems I had with the beta. It's just flat out crisper and the player models and environments look richer with detail. That said, they probably would have been better served by simply getting rid of the single player and giving more multiplayer maps and weapons. The multiplayer is phenomenal. Unlike the competition, there is a real teamwork element to each round- in CoD games, a team with one amazing player can win every time. In BF3, the team that works together the most generally wins. There were some connection issues on release on XBOX LIve, but those seem to have been completely resolved (I can now get into an online game in BF3 more consistently than any other game I've played on XBL) If you're looking for a gripping single player mode, pass on this game. The single player campaign is just as good if not better than most CoD and other FPS single player campaigns. The co-op is fine, I've only played it a little bit but it's definitely challenging on the higher difficulties, the only downside is that it only allows for 2 player co-op where I feel it would've been better with 4. Without question though the main attraction and pretty much the only reason it should be judged is the multiplayer and it is amazing. Gun customization and unlocks are a lot deeper than any other Battlefield game, the maps are BEAUTIFUL...some of the best graphics I've seen in a console game (must install HD texture pack or the textures of boxes and stairs will be quite ugly)...and the game is just awesome...

The only downside to the multiplayer is that they had server issues the first couple of days which probably also accounts for the 50+ negative reviews since it's likely people with no patience complaining about the servers...they have been up and running on all cylinders since yesterday (Thursday Oct 27th) and no longer having connection issues...the game has already shipped 10 million in the first week, so that should say enough right there...

Battlefield 3 is a must-have FPS experience for any shooter fan, and for the CoD fans...you can play team deathmatch and feel right at home but for the people who want the true Battlfield 3 experience...stick to Rush or Conquest

I have, historically, preferred the Call of Duty campaign and Zombies modes against Battlefield's, but I have enjoyed Battlefield's multiplayer a tremendous deal more than Call of Duty's.

Battlefield 3 is amazing. The multiplayer, as always, is as solid as a brick house. Absolutely nothing can come marginally close to its experience. The co-op is engaging, as it often requires players to actually work as a team to accomplish goals. What really surprised me, however, was the campaign. It was as awesome as any other mode on Battlefield. Battlefield 3 delivers a great story, spanning multiple environments and countless roles. The inclusion of multi-button sequences is welcomed, too. The only glitch I encountered was a problem with audio being looped (i.e. a conversation at the beginning of the mission kept replaying for me).

With that said, I scold both fanboys and haters to give the game a score based on their own biases. I personally find the Battlefield series more enjoyable, but that doesn't mean I will rule out Call of Duty. Grow up or go home.

Consider facts, and consider what this game means for the entire genre. Battlefield has been revamping its engine in revolutionary ways with every new release. This is a military shooter with advanced physics, gritty realism and no-holds-barred combat. Two guys can shoot at each-other and both die. That doesn't happen in rival shooters. A beautiful game that epitomizes what online multiplayer should be about.

The singleplayer was only ever intended to be a tech demonstration and to judge it on that would be akin to judging Black Ops on its singleplayer, which was awful.

Coming from a PC gamer who has bought and played every single BF game since 1943 I have to say that I love this game. I am going to throw one negative out there and say that the campaign isn't that great. It gives a fairly good story and has a lot of action but to be honest, it's a little bit dry, pretty easy, and fairly short . Also, if you didn't enjoy the BC2 campaign or the MW2Coming from a PC gamer who has bought and played every single BF game since 1943 I have to say that I love this game. I am going to throw one negative out there and say that the campaign isn't that great. It gives a fairly good story and has a lot of action but to be honest, it's a little bit dry, pretty easy, and fairly short . Also, if you didn't enjoy the BC2 campaign or the MW2 campaign, then you probably wont enjoy this one (it feels like a mixture of both). However, I personally don't care at all about the campaign so I didn't include that in my score. The multiplayer and co-op are where it's at (If I did even take it into account, I would give the game a 9.7 and just round up since I can't give that type of score).

I'll first review the co-op because I wan't to leave the best for last. To simplify my emotions about co-op, I will just say that it's everything the campaign wasn't. Seriously. It's just a very fun set of missions that I've personally enjoyed a lot and they give you a good preparation for the multiplayer. They are a little short, but they are completely worth trying out if you have a friend to play it with.

    Now on to the multiplayer:

I've been a BF fan ever since the beginning and I have to say that the multiplayer for this game is everything I expected from DICE. One thing that I particularly love about the 360 version is the amazing server browser included. This is probably one of the best browser on consoles I have experienced so far. It gives you a very wide arrange of options that I've only so far seen on PC. It's just wonderful. Plus, [DICE] servers have a very helpful line if the server is full so once someone leaves, you will instantly join into a full game. The sizes of the maps also surprised me. From videos I've seen, the maps seemed very small compared to maps in other BF games. But when I played, I was very pleased to say that maps are very large in size. I wouldn't honestly say THE largest maps I've seen like in BF2 and such but they are almost there. If you've played Heavy Metal in BC2, Caspian is about twice to three times as large. The sound is wonderful too. I get goosebumps from listening to rockets fly by my head. Also, here's a tip: go to settings>audio then switch the sound from "hi-def" to "war tapes". The sounds get even better.

There are a few problems with being on a bad team (it's very easy to get on one) but that's more a problem with the players and not the game. If you do find yourself on one, I would suggest quitting the server and finding another one. This is really nothing new though. Uneven teams has been a problem since BF:1942. But I personally have my best moments when the game has even teams.

I won't review the graphics because you people can just see for yourself. I will tell you though that you need to dwnld the high-def texture pack. It does wonders and it barely takes any time at all to install.

To sum up, I would suggest skipping the SP altogether and just going to multiplayer. If you are like me and you have to play the campaign before you play the multiplayer then I would suggest that you go for co-op. It's a much better campaign than the SP.

The singleplayer is not that great and it is comparable to COD in aspects of linearity and blockbuster type action and yet I'd say superior writing and atmosphere. CO-OP is a bit better with 6 missions that are pretty fun with a friend.

What it shines with is multiplayer. You just don't find a shooter with team orientated framework built into its design anymore with the last one I remember being Team Fortress 2, although it's not that heavy. It's balanced and skillful with deep weapon progression and long term investments in unlocking new gear and ranks. Vehicles are an important force and staple on the field, but not instant death machines and they also require some work to use properly. You can be 4 different classes and all of them have helpful items for your team and you play in squads and feel part of a unit instead of people in a map killing each other.

I love Battlefield and the unique experiences it offers in a sea of modern shooting games. You just won't find anything else like it unless you like simulators like ARMA.

I can't think of a way to finish this, but I really recommend picking it up.

The graphics and Visuals are incredible, the shear size and ability to explore the various maps is amazing and I am enjoying this game, when I can get online! Now moving on to my various complaints:

    1. The campaign provided nothing new to a the first person shooter warfare genre, however I played it and enjoyed myself for a few hours.
    2. The sever connectivity issues were never resolved in the BETA like they should have been.
    3. There is an enormous slue of glitches and hick ups in campaign and online (freezing, never ending loading screens, holes in maps, cinematic to gameplay triggers not going off (and vice a versa)). A complete lack of two player (split screen) gameplay.
    4. Midnight purchasers were not rewarded in any way what so ever by a greeting in the form of a 1.5 Gb download as soon as they got home.
    5. Next is both EA's and DICE's complete disregard for their fanbase. No updates on their forums at all besides, "we're aware of the issue." or, "maintenance is taking longer than expected." We have heard not one apology, not one condolence. All EA or DICE have publicly stated is that their game is the best and it's a COD killer. Sounds like they have become more concerned with beating CoD and less concerned with a quality product that will impress their fanbase.

Awesome game, I played a ton of BC2, the feel is still there but slightly refreshed. only 2 things I dislike about BF3 laser pointers on guns and flashlights, other than those two things i know im 100% satisfied. Im glad new frostbite 2 engine isnt quite as buggy as BFBC2!

all in all a very good war simulator wish i could learn to actually fly the jets though , there is room for improvment thats clear but its still the best most realistic war game out there.

This game is amazing. The weapons feel great (actual recoil), the maps are huge, the gameplay is faster than bfbc2, and the graphics are stunning. This is like crysis meets bf2 and modern warfare. (in a good way)

One of the best games i have ever played in my life. Its such a submersion i can stop myself from looking past the short and relatively dumb campaign and i can say this is one of the best games i have ever played... 10/10

It's delicious! I did not expect such a result! Many swear by a single company, but she liked me too much! DICE - great! EA - the only negative point - it's bound to play online and the inability to fully play with bots ...

BF3 is the most realistic shooter I have played and it has got me hooked. I pick up these shooters for the multiplayer alone and BF3 right now has the best MP experience.

Very solid game, refreshing to see new features in a online shooter. Vehicles are fun and classes work well. by far the best multiplayer shooter out there

The launch week of this was horrible and sometime unplayable so I waited till MW3 came out and this game runs very smooth now that the COD boys are gone. The game is way more balanced then COD at the start and I love Hardcore mode the most. The campaign is 4 hrs long but nice eye candy nicely done. There are some small imperfections but that's ok.

This game should be called Modern Warfare 2.5.
They have put like 5 new guns, mew maps and like 2 new modes .AMAZING -____- . The graphics are nearly the same as MW2. The 12 year old's are back to ruin a gaming experience that is supposed to e fun. Very disappointing Sledge hammer Games.

This game is a ton of fun and I'm enjoying it more than I ever did with COD. Me and a couple of friends have been playing nightly and its a blast, there's so many epic moments. And don't listen to what critics are saying about singleplayer and bringing the score down. The fact that they even added singleplayer should be a treat enough. Battlefield is and always will be a multiplayer game.

The game is awesome. Graphics have been improved, the multiplayer and cooperative modes are simply beautiful. The realistic stuff, effects sound and enviroment, makes it a 10 out of 10 game. Though, the COD campers came to the game to full the online mode of **** what piss me off. Also dying by 2 bullets, is kinda dissapointing.

This game blew my mind. The graphics are unbelievable when you install the texture's pack. The depth to the gameplay, teamwork and weapon unlocks and customisations is fantastic. I'd like to see some more features added to multiplayer but I'm just being picky. Great game. Get it - forget MW3. I have.

First of all, I see people whining about it being developed for PC first and that the graphics are not as good on console. Well duh...It's not like they perilously didn't make the graphics better the console CAN'T HANDLE IT DUE TO HARDWARE LIMITATIONS. So that is a moot point. Second stop trolling here cod fanboys, your jealous that MW3, um MW2 is no good.

If you like first person shooters, you should own this game! The single player campaign is fun but short, however thats not the reason you should own this game. The multiplayer is amazingly good fun which will keep you captivated for plenty of gaming hours. Too many reviews to read on here, just buy the game or rent it and try for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

The multiplayer is where this game truly shines since multiplayer is where the heart of battlefield has always been. The campaign while not super, gets the job done as being a bonus to the thick of the content that is mutiplayer. There is also a Co-op mode that is quite a lot of fun when done with a partner online. Overall this game, to me, has lived up to the extensive hype placed upon itself over the years. 10/10 for sure! Expand

This game is the best first person shooter i have ever tried! i love to play multiplayer, with jets, tanks and lots of other vehicles, coop is really fun too, i love to play it with my friend and other people on-line. The story is also good, i haven't played trough the whole story yet, but i am enjoying every second of it! I really recommend this game!

Hands down BF3 is the best and most realistic shooter. If you want 12 year old sand box game then MW3 is the game for you. If you want a realistic, all around awesome game and a game that is made for real gamers then BF3 is it. One last thing...dedicated servers people. While Battlefield 3 was aiming to be the biggest name this holiday season, and while it has made strides towards knocking off Modern Warfare 3, it misses the mark. That's not to say it is a bad game, it's a very good one, but the polish and excitement that is found on the Call of Duty series feels missing here. Still, there are much worse games you could end up with this holiday season, and the competition between the two series should heat up significantly in the next few years.

This experience alone sums up what Battlefield 3 is about. It isn't a John Rambo run and gun shooter and it shouldn't really be compared to MW3 in terms of how you play it. For players to truly understand the Battlefield experience you need to embrace the teamwork by joining a squad and calling out your spotted enemies, as after all, sometimes you also need your back covered too.
