    Poor and repetitive mission objectives, A confusing story, and no replay value take a huge chunk out of the value of this game. While it has a ton of promise, This game sucks.

This game is extremely repetitive: go to a city, do a couple of side missions that are the same in every city, assassinate someone and repeat.     A true joy of originality for the first few hours, but past that, you'll soon begin to feel the repetitive nature of the gameplay grinding against your brain with every second of play, coupled with a fairly standard plot that doesn't really answer any questions at all paving the way for a sequel, but not in a good way. If you can get past that, a beautiful interpretation of 12th century holy land with an astonishing amount of detail, a very suiting soundtrack coupled with some truly awe-insiring moments (synchronising at the peek of the tallest tower in Jerusalem, :O OH MY GOD, BONER-TIME). The combat is intuitive but leaves much to be desired, the actual assassination bits had a lot of potential but amount to no more than drawn out sword fights with multiple guards + your target no matter how well you plot them. The free-running, however, which essentially allows you to kick back and simply direct Altair across the many rooftops with simple ease, is among the greatest inventions in gaming history, and it makes sense, how many rooftops are there in Assassin's Creed, thousands you say? Well I don't want to press "jump" every **** time I jump from rooftop to rooftop, so in short, Ubisoft, I love you :D All in all, Assassin's Creed is a brilliant premise, if Ubisoft can tweak the gameplay so it isn't so monotonous, give a bit of spice and variety to the pre-assassination "intel-gathering" missions and spice up the plot dramatically, then Assassin's Creed II could be one of the greatest games ever made, fingers crossed b!tches… Expand

    Many people love this franchise but I must be completely honest. Rarely have I been so bored by a game in my life. I played for a couple hours, marveled at its beauty, then put it away. While that may seem unfair for a review, if a $60 game can't keep my attention for for more than 2 hours I find that equally unfair.

    No doubt that the visuals are remarkable and the scope of the environment is incredible, but the depth of the game is so poor that I couldn't possibly rate it any higher.

    The game itself is split into chapters, each tasking you with eliminating a given target. Before you can do this however you must complete one of three basic mission types to gather info on their location and any potential weaknesses. Unfortunately however the gameplay changes very little from the first mission to the last and with a playing time of around 15 hours it becomes rather repetitive. When you find yourself rescuing a citizen being picked on by guards for the 30th time it is easy to lose interest, particular since the storyline is not particularly strong.

    For less than a tenner I would certainly recommend 'Assassins Creed' although you may find it difficult to play the game all the way to the end.    … Expand

    It was ok but it was insanely reptitive and actually rather shallow if you think of it. The same mission objectives for every mission, Cities look great but lack variety and looks the same, and it has no replay value. It was interesting but there are just too many flaws with it.

    Assassin's Creed is a beautiful game, and one that provides a decent story in a historical setting. The free running mechanics promised are pretty decent, if a little clunky. The problem is that the "stealth" and "assassinations" are boiled down to linear repetitive events that are frankly dull to play through.

    the gameplay wasn original. i saw it in prince of persia
    it had one the worst ending of ever
    the story is so undeep and dry
    it hasnt passion or emotional characters
    its a stupid game. i hate it

    This game broke new ground at its release and was further improved upon by assassins creed 2. However it took me years to beat because i'd get bored by it, come back, and not know what was going on. I did find the game to be of high value overall, but I would give it a 7 out of 10 for being a great title, but not one I'd see myself coming back to a second time.

    Very fun and immersive gameplay. Extremely detailed world and realistic. However, the storyline was unconvincing and incohesive, and the finale was dissapointing. The artificial intelligence was very lacking in the "intelligence" department, and many of the features that you would think are really cool just end up being clunky or too inconvenient to ever use.

    All the comments about graphics are valid. Easily the best-looking game for the 360 that I've seen, with the possible exception of COD4. Battle mechanics are also pretty good, if not superior. The story, even if you consider it a Matrix rip-off, isn't all that bad, especially given the glut of outright crap that's out there today. What ends up dragging the game down, however, are the repetitive elements, graphics glitches, poor AI, and beyond-useless side quests. Repetitive: I go to four or five cities and hear the same people saying the same things. They went to all this trouble to create beautiful environments, but they couldn't find more than three (literally!) things for street merchants, town criers, bullies, and other city dwellers to say? Hard to believe, but that's exactly what happened. Graphics glitches: Can't tell you how many times I had a horse half in and half out of a hillside, ditto for guards and/or soldiers. A game that looks this good should not have this problem. Poor AI: The only time I was frustrated from being killed was when I knew I should have known better, because any enemies you fight have a standard way of fighting...and nothing else. Truly predictable to the point of being just a button-mashing exercise, and this game looks too good to resort to being a Mortal Kombat clone. Side-quests: This basically consists of collecting flags. That's it. In Jerusalem alone there are 100 of them, and I found 20. As nice as the scenery was, the AI and and repetitive dialogue completely removed any compulsion I might have had to continue looking for the other 80. Ditto for all the other flags and the 60 Knights Templar. I only blew $26 for this game on eBay, counting shipping. I'd be pretty unhappy if I'd paid $60. You can be sure I won't pay more than that for a sequel. Shame on any professional reviewer who gave this game more than a 7 on a 10-scale.… Expand

I can think of a dozen ways for them to change things up to add replay-ability and more complex, rewarding side missions.     The graphics are outstanding. But the gameplay is repetitive and designed to be slow. Imagine playing a game where you're supposed to walk around at a crawl to "hide" - this is that game. Oh and when you can't crawl anymore there are random piles of hay for you to jump into to in case you're not an accomplished slow walker.     I really don't know where all the high rating are coming from. This game is a con. ive never know such a repetitive game, its just the same pointless little missions over and over again. pick pocket - evesdrop - intimidate - kill - YAWN!!! the free roaming is good and the graphics are excellent, but once GTA 4 is released I wouldn't see the point of even thinking about getting I really don't know where all the high rating are coming from.     The things I didn't like about this game are too numerous to mention. Luckily they can be summed up by explaining one aspect of the game.

    You're forced to travel from city to city manually. The distance you have to cover is large and the route is peppered liberally with enemy soldiers.     You're forced to travel from city to city manually. The distance you have to cover is large and the route is peppered liberally with enemy soldiers. For some unfathomable reason, failure to slow to an absolute crawl by holding down a button (whether on foot or horseback) when passing within metres of these soldiers will result in them chasing and attacking you. This obviously results in the choice between sprinting from area to area in an attempt to outrun them and therefore missing out on a good chunk of the game, or moving at a snails pace and struggling to stay awake. To sum it up you can play this game in one of two way, both of which suck.

    This game falls squarely within a new category of games I have christened "boredom simulators". Games which eschew the most important (in my opinion) element of a game, fun, in favour of "realism".    … Expand

    I wouldn't say it's terrible, but it's not good. Seemed like it was slopped together and got old very quickly. My opinion is that this is what happens when you try to make a game for more than one platform. Stick to the exclusives devs out there! I don't care what system. Just do it. You're obviously too spread thin or not talented enough to do more than one console.

    I have played this game half way through and I will not finish it by the end of this week. Not because it's too hard it's because the game gets me so mad I have to put it down for a while. First of all it's very repetitive. If I wanted to go assassinate 3 guards pickpocket someone evesdrop then go all out fight then I'm all for it. Also there's too many glitches. No not the cutscene glitches but actual gameplay glitches. I'm jumping around and all of a sudden I catch onto a basket laid on the floor. Dangling from it....The only problem is it's like 2 inches from the floor so my legs are in the building. 2nd, When I knock a boss off a wall (Which I've done twice now) They usually die, but then Altair follows them, and does that annoying after death speech. IN MID AIR. I just did it now and I fell through an invisible barrier and ended up in the computer simulator/loading screen Permanently. So first of all, fix these glitches. Make a new twist so I'm not repeating myself. and finally add a multiplayer mode. First one to assassinate the other.… Expand

    Great visuals and climbing mechanic. I enjoyed the intensity of some of the story elements (when the crazy doctor breaks the guy's legs). I do have to agree though, the game was sooo repeditive. And did anyone else notice that there was NO reason to save civilians? It was stupid, if you try to save a civ by killing the baddies, all of a sudden guards start fighting you too. WTF? Also, one of the game's tips was that if you start a fist fight the guards won't attack, but when I started punching the bullies, they drew swords so what the hell am I supposed to do? Saving civilians should have been cut. I feel like there was a lot of ideas that just didn't get fleshed out enough. The whole blending in with the crowd idea was useless except for getting past the guards at the gates of the city. The constant yellow alert that made the annoying sound until you hid in haystack was freaking annoying. I thought the controls were adequte, but while running I noticed that I was holding down A and the right trigger. It shouldn't be that hard. Some game designer was probably tasked with coming up with "innovative controls" and so they made this system for the sake of innovation. I mainly gave the game a 5 because of the huge bug that was preventing me from finishing the game. I would ride to kill your arch nemesis and then all of a sudden I would fall through the level. When I respawned, there were two Altair's and both moved corresponding to my controls. When this happened, none of the scripted events would fire so I couldn't progress. I read on a forum that the solution was to unplug my player 2 controller. What the F?… Expand

    What could have been a great game is let down by repetitive, boring gameplay, slow driven storyline which does not engage you in any way, and a shalow fighting system. Disappointment of the year.

    I was really disappointed by this game. It gets repetitve fast and seems to try to do new things for the sake of someone's ego and not for the gamer. Seems the luster has left Ubisoft.

I am not sure of the specific value, because you don't count. You just want to get to the next assassination to be done with it, but no, you have to do side missions. There are 3 side missions, eavesdropping, informant, and interrogation. Eavesdropping is sitting on a bench and listening to 2 guys talk in which they say generally the same thing every time. Informant either makes you kill people, or makes you go and capture flags. Wait, capture flags? Are you serious? You are capturing flags in an assassination game? The A.I. is horrendous. The villagers mindlessly roam around the city. The guards attack you one at a time, and can do exactly the same acrobatic jumps across buildings as you can. You can't swim, an elite assassin, that is a master of the Olympics. Don't worry, the guards can't swim either. No one can swim. Did I mention the pick pocketing mission? You listen to do guys talk for 5 minutes, than you wait 2 seconds for the future pick pocket victim to look left and then right, than you press a button to pick pocket him. But in order to even find these missions, you will spend HOURS climbing the same looking tower, pressing Y on the amazingly convenient wooden planks on EVERY single Birds Eye View Location. When you fail on the Informant missions, which you will a lot because the timed ones are extremely hard, and the flag ones are just ridiculous. If you decide to re-do the mission, you will have to listen to the SAME cut scene, because if you didn't already know, you cannot skip ANY cuts scenes. There are some cut scenes in the game, that are 10 minutes long, and they are completely boring and unexciting. I would never replay this game for that reason alone much less all of the other reasons. Did I even mention it is buggy to the point to where some players can't even play it? This game tries NOTHING new, sure great graphics, but I can name lots of games that blow this game out of the water. Don't reward this under class game by buying it. I suggest renting something else, but if you really want to try and stay awake through this game in which I didn't even go through the mass x and x + right trigger combat system. Go right ahead....oh my gosh this game is bad.… Expand

    Don't beleive the hype. Assassins Creed is great for the first hour, but any longer it becomes very repetitive and boring. So boring I was compelled to play other games instead of finishing it. I suggest renting AC first.

    Great graphics, great visuals, seemingly interesting story and premise - combat is very stiff, world feels a bit constrained, entertaining for a while - not entertaining enough to actually finish however.

    Pretty pictures, great controls but boooooring repetitive game play. WTH is up with all these great reviews? If you play the game for more then 3 hours, you realize what a scam it is. People need to demand more from games and with reviews like this, we'll never get it.

And I mean VERY repetitive. Countless assassinations to drive the story... all completed in simlir manner, and all clues leading to them gained in identical ways... listen to this person, pickpocket that person... Even the side missions like saving civilians get tired very quickly. - Camera. If it's not getting in the way of a fight it's often moving at awkward angles just as you try to pull off some speedy free-running... resulting in a long drop in the wrong direction. - Save system. An option to go to spots to save in a game this large would have been a godsend. Instead you only get to save after particular events. - Stealth system. So... I'm out of the line of site of gueards... the indicator says they are still looking for me. I can wait out of site for hours (e.g. atop a tower or behind a wall)... but they'll still be 'looking' until I hide in a specific hiding spot like a random bale of hay. Logical. Also people will become suspicious of you for no apparent reason. Sometimes just for walking. This is hugely annoying when you might have a time limit of 2 or 3 mins to get somewhere without alerting anyone. Basically I'd say it's a very graphically impressive game, but the gameplay itself needs a hell of a lot of thought before they come up with a sequel. The free running needs a polish to make it more fluid, and the whole stealth aspect has been done better in games like the Hitman series. I'm now nearly through it all (final mission), and once it's done I'll be trading it in since in all honesty I don't know why I'd want to go back to it for a few hundred identical side missions.     The original Assassins creed is still a great game. It does pale in comparison with the sequels but laid down the groundwork and fantastic concept that the rest follow.

Now Altair, the main protagonist is very badass but really you just can't relate to him. The game is repetitive, and is beat by Grand Theft Auto in terms of wanting to just mess around and not progress. You might think that the combat would be stellar as a well-trained assassin, but in truth, the combat is sub-par at best, considering altercations can sometimes take upwards of 5 minutes just to resolve. The counter also breaks the combat of the game once you master it. The replay value on this game is very low because the core gameplay is just so rehashed over and over and the only other thing to do is collect nearly a thousand flags and kill juggernauts (Templar knights). I do have to compliment Ubisoft on their surprise ending. All in all, the game looks like fun when you first hear about it, but it quickly becomes stale and the only thing pushing you through this game is to unravel the tightly wrapped plot.… Expand

    This game was like a dream come true for me. A lot of people complain about it being repetitive, shallow, boring, etc. and I can understand how they can say that. However I really enjoyed the freedom of movement and beautiful scenery. It's like you're a middle ages batman! With time travel! I would've picked up the sequel on launch day if it wasn't for the DRM.

With a game relying so heavily on story it really bothers me - also, most supporting characters has voice acting is better than the game protagonist, which is in itself annoying. It may not have a high diversity of weapons, but they all feel rich, well thought, and with very good animations.

    Story
    The writing is superb. It elevates the whole game, and it was probably the inspiration for making this game. The emotions and voices are well done, and they did an excelent job to inmerse you in the world. The story is also full of interesting twistes that will keep you focused in the story.

    Gameplay missions
    It frustates me the amount of people I've heard saying it's repetitive, in which I completely disagree. Lets put the pickpocket missions as an example, (which you'll do around 10+ times during the game). The first time you pickpocket a guy may be fast and easy, but the next one you may need to hide between some monks to avoid some guards, or take a different shortcut to go past them to be able to pickpocket, or wait until he is alone to not get spotted. Then, once you get the item, sometimes it is a map that give you the coordinates of guard archers on rooftops that will be protecting your target. Other times it will be a letter written by your target that gives you the time and place of the event and helps you on the mission. THIS is why some missions may seem repetitive at first, but in reality they are all different and diverse. Take league of legends as an analogy to this missions, it may seem repetitive on the same map and killing the same nexus every game, but actually each game feels completely different due to your surroundings, positioning, and enemies.

    Graphics
    I don't get why people say they are old. The graphics engine is actually BETTER in visuals compared newer AC games, this is due their goal of being able to put 1000 bots in screen at the same time in newer AC titles. If you don't believe me, simpy get on top of the highest building on AC, then do the same in newer ACs. Then tell me which looks better.

    If you read the whole review you'll understand why it earns a 10/10. No other AC to date can get even close to this one in terms of its Single player experience.     Personally i loved the way the creators of Assassin's Creed mingled history and science fiction together. As a first impression, in the first hour or so, the graphics and the gameplay was all i could think of for the couple of hours after switching the Xbox off. I got to say, the graphics are intense...i have never seen so much dedication to graphics before - it would seem just like you are watching a scene in a movie where the protagonist is walking through a very crowded area. I know it's hard to say...but the graphics are even better than GoW and GTA IV. Even if you look at a pot ona shelve or something you can see the same texture as you would with a real pot.

    At first you don't have many weapons and skills to fight and defend yourself but as the game wears on, you increase dramatically with your skill - in the game with the swords and your skill with the buttons on your controller. The storyline is also quite interesting because in each level you can do a number of things to choose your personality in the game. You can be a pickpocket, you can help helpless citizens, be violent and kill all the guards or be stealthy and try and avoid them - or even you can do all of these. But each level as a certain assassination that the masters give you and you have to find information throughout the level about this person...then kill him. All this seems so interesting but finish a couple of levels and kill hundreds of guards the storyline gets a little repetitive and boring...destroying the excitement of killing people.

    There is one thing in the game that I will never get tired of and that is while fighting off a large group of guards. What I love doing is holding my dagger in defense and then pressing 'X' to counter attack the guard. If you do that at a certain time, Altair will eliminate the guard in a very smooth and swift way...and there are many smooth and swift ways. Then, when the dagger goes through the body of the guard blood gushes out and increases the intensity of the graphics.

    The sound effects are also pretty impressive and exciting. The sound changes according to you status in the game, if you are unnoticed the sound will be cool, but if you are being chased by a large group of guards that music will change to something more drastic and fast. Then to loose that large group of guards you will have to hide in a haystack or a little box thingy with curtains...if you are hiding the music will change into a heart beat rhythm. Then again, it gets repetitive as you go further into the game.

    At many points in the game, the map doesn't show you objective and what you have to do next then it gets quite difficult to go on because the cities are really big. This gets really frustrating and you feel like quitting...but then after hours of search you might be able to find your objective. Also, the achievements are pretty hard to get.

    The cutscenes are also very cool and unique. They are unique because in the cutscenes of Assassin's Creed you can move around and change the camera views when there is a "glitch" in the game. (People who have played this game will know why I put "" around glitch).

    Lastly, my favorite thing about thing about this game is that you can climb up call building and synchronize with the city. The way the game shows the city when you synchronize with it is beautiful and very clever...i loved it. I also enjoyed climbing and jumping from building to building. Though the climbing can get pretty annoying because you have to be perfectly in line with the thing you are going to use next to climb with.

    Graphics = 9.5/10
    Storyline = 7/10
    Sound Effects = 8/10

    The game is very atmospheric. The cities you visit during the game are big and extremely atmospheric. It really does feel like a crusader movie. The movement - ability to climb any building, run on the rooftops is very well done. The whole scope of the game does look impress. For the times this was released it is very impressive. Even today it still looks very good and holds its own.

    During the game you will kill a number of templars. And while all the tools seem to be present the game feels a bit repetitive. Each mission follows pretty much the same schematic - follow someone and eavesdrop on conversation to learn something, beat someone up, pickpocket someone else. In the end it does not affect the main mission much though. With additional Ubisoft dis tractors - climbing towers to reveal map and so on it's a completionist nightmare. Even more so that the side missions are even more repetitive than the core plot. The main missions at least vary from each other and are really fun to do.

    The strength of this game lies within stealth. Blending with the crowd, picking routes to avoid detection to deal the final blow. When executed properly it's really satisfying. The combat is a bit too easy. All you have to do is wait for a queue to counter and you can fight off a hundred men.

    The only problem I had was with an XBox controller which for some reason does not work well with the PC version of the game. And some keys are bound in a strange way without ability to re-bind them. Even using community fixes I couldn't get it to work exactly as it should.

    The whole story of Desmond Miles is a bit weak - and personally I would prefer for it to be strictly about Altair.

    Overall the game still holds up - worth picking up and playing through.    … Expand

Visual fidelity is surprisingly good for 10 year old game, it has its charm and a believable world, music is very good too. This game has some serious strengths and is the best out of the series in many regards, but it has some quite meaningful flaws as well.     Very fun and immersive gameplay. Extremely detailed world and realistic. However, the storyline was unconvincing and incohesive, and the finale was dissapointing. The artificial intelligence was very lacking in the "intelligence" department, and many of the features that you would think are really cool just end up being clunky or too inconvenient to ever use.

    Still to this day one of my most favorite games in general and in the series (even though I'd give a 10 to AC2)
    I never understood why people complained about the fact that it was repetitive.     It's one of those rare open world game where I felt deeply connected to the story line and I wanted to dig in more.

    I also loved the open world between the cities and racing around with your horse and all. The setting was fantastic and the free runing was just unbelievable at that time! Combat was great and you got a real sense of empowerement being an assassin.

    I finished that game 2 times, I got 1000G and I'd love for Ubisoft to release it again on Next gen platforms.    … Expand

    El juego me gusto bastante, la temática de asesinos me parece buenísima, la historia es normal, el parkour me encanto al igual que las maneras de matar, no es un juego largo pero tampoco es corto, en fin el comienzo de una gran saga. Mi puntuación real seria un 8,6.

    I understand in 2007 was a new game with lots of new mechanics, open world and other things but playing and finishing it after all the time the game lacks in general. I found repetitive, stressful and many other bad feelings.

    A hit and miss game. Though the free roam platforming is absolutely brilliant, the rest of the game is really repetitive. The story can be a engaging at points but for most of the time, it is really boring. Being an assassin is really awesome. For the first hour. After that, it becomes very repetitive and assassinating people becomes less satisfying and only done out of boredom. Even withA hit and miss game.     I was truly amazed when I first picked up the controller and began playing Assassin's Creed. The graphics, storyline, and initial game play really are stunning. However, the repetitiveness of this game is absolutely horrible. After a couple hours of play (if that) you feel like you are doing the exact same missions over and over again.     Assassins Creed is a game you can both love and hate at the same time. One thing is that you have to climb and climb until you have scaled everything but because of the graphics it is worth getting to the top. Another is the fighting; killing people and not getting caught is extremely boring but stealth killing is so fun you'll kill civilians even though it will kill you. One thing good about this game that doesn't have a bad side is the sandbox after you win, you can run around and have fun without any consequences. For the reason everything has both a good and bad side I am giving this game a five and one point for the sandbox afterwards making it a six.… Expand

    I'm going to start out this review by saying that Assassin's Creed is an extremely popular game, and one of my favorite games that I own. It also has some very obvious flaws. Missions get boring fairly quickly because of the lack of variety, which is something that every open-world game needs to have. But besides that, everything about this game is executed very well. Missions get boring fairly quickly because of the lack of variety, which is something that every open-world game needs to have. But besides that, everything about this game is executed very well. Assassin's creed is set in the Middle East during the Crusades. Basically, you play as an assassin named Altair and go on missions to kill people. The way you do it is that you go to a town, and try to gather information on your target, and then plan a way to strike. However, that's pretty much all you do in the entire game. And believe me, it gets boring after a while. This is not a game like Fallout 3 that you can play for hours at a time and not run into repetition. You should probably take a break and do something else after each mission. Another small gripe I have is with the cutscenes. There are long sequences of dialogue between Altair and the other characters at regular intervals, in which the player can do nothing but pace around in circles like an idiot. The dialogue itself reminds me of boring conversations between the elderly, so you probably won't listen to most of it the first time. The story is actually pretty good if you learn to tolerate the long-winded cutscenes. But the voice acting is a mixed bag. I thought that it was very good, but some people might be put off by the fact that Altair speaks in an American accent. But personally, I thought it was a good decision by Ubisoft to do this, because Altair's background is mostly unknown. Some people may disagree though. However, there are several areas in which this game exceeds. The acrobatics are very fun to perform. It is an absolute blast to watch Altair run, leap and climb across the rooftops. The combat, although limited, can be fast paced and fun if you play it right. The main assassinations are brilliantly designed for the most part, although many of them have fairly long cutscenes to go with them. But like I said, this is a small problem. Assassin's Creed is an amazing game in my opinion, but it's not for everyone. I recommend it to anyone that likes good games and has a good amount of patience.… Expand

    Very well done in terms of the world size and the free running. Interesting way to tell a story also. Unfortunately the entire game is so insanely repetitive that I couldn't even finish. I literally was sick to my stomach from doing the same thing over and over again. You basicly repeat the same mission the entire game.

Whilst the story and characters were very imaginative and original, the missions were very dull and repetitive, and so my main objectives in the game were to view the amazing scenery created by Ubisoft.     Innovation is great in this Prince of Persia spin-off, a lot of things are historically accurate and it couldn't be better, though, the missions before assassinating are really boring and the game gets a little repetitive but who cares, it's so much fun messing around in this game that can be forgiven. Despite some weaknesses Assassin's Creed stands up and makes a good game.

However, when I began the game, I was surprised to find that it was not a purely-historical game. Of course, I was wholly inexperienced with the gameplay, causing my death many times during my first playthrough, but it hadn't detracted from the experience in the least. It became so natural that I was ending fights with only the hidden blade equipped. However, during the first three-quarters of the game, I realized how much I disliked Altair and how far he was away from I behaved. Becoming a Master Assassin early in life, he grew arrogant and selfish, but changed after killing another who was like him; who killed others just because he could. And so he transformed into one of my favorite characters.

    The single-funnest feature in the game for me was the act of parkour and free-running, which allowed Altair to scale buildings without much effort and travel the city in half the time it would take others. But it came at a cost; there were several instances that I was killed from the accidental turn of the camera because it was so sensitive. In addition to this, the second time I played, it was quite noticeable that the mission structure was (to use a common word) "repetitive", but I continued to play with vigor. Each assassination was actually unique in and of itself, so much that I ignored the like-mindedness of the structure. For a game series in its first outing, the game created my hunger for the rest of the games and even though it is not perfect, it is a great example of what can happen if you try new IPs.    … Expand

The number of times you must save a harassed citizen is a product of a design team that had to work on all kinds of function and scenery, and than had little time left over to fill the game with missions. The other annoyance to a game that is supposed to favor stealth and assassin techniques is the constant large scale unavoidable fights the later assassinations produce. I'm sorry, my character is the worst assassin ever if he constantly just walks into a crowd of soldiers.

    I wanted to like this game, but it was a pretty bad game. So repetitive and boring. I beat it just to see it to the end, but i wish i didnt :( thats how bad it was. Great graphics cant save a game i guess.

    Monotony may be a pervasive ailment of some of its latter moments, but "Assassin's Creed" does manage to successfully present a wholly gratifying stealth-action experience.

While the graphics don't hold up that well compared to recent releases, the gameplay and story line keep you entertained and eager to keep playing. If you were to run through the story-driven missions without taking any time to sight-see or attempt side missions, it is around a 10hr game. As a history buff I thoroughly enjoyed seeing much of the game's story line and characters following their destiny. Great game.… Expand

    Now the main problem is the repetitive nature of the game. Go and assasinate this guy, return to the creed, and repeat ten more times.

    I played the first 2 missions and got BORED! I didn't touch the game for 6 months, just the thought of me playing it was enough for me to get bored.
    Finally decided to play it again, and even though it was repetitve as f..k I enjoyed the story. And I have to say that was the only thing that made me buy ACII, wanting to know what will happen to Desmond and Lucy.
    Not an awesome game, repetitve as hell, but great story and great visuals. Give it a try.    … Expand

    Per molti la più grande pecca di questo splendido gioco e la sua ripetitività nelle azioni da svolgere ma che secondo il mio parere, questa peculiarità, è stata quasi voluta dagli sviluppatori per ricreare quella atmosfera scandita da dogmi e regole che viveva la setta degli assassini in quel periodo, il che comporta lo svolgere di precise azioni più volte da parte di Altair per sottostare al credo dell'assassino.
    Inoltre Assassin's Creed è ricco di riferimenti storici che danno ancora più valore a questo gioco ricreando tutte le varie atmosfere del tempo, che forse però, non tutti sono stati in grado di apprezzare nella loro minuziosa ricostruzione e resa grafica.
    Il tutto verrà nettamente migliorato e portato ad un'altro livello nel secondo capitolo ma il primo rimane sicuramente uno dei più belli grazie anche alla sua ambientazione medievale che dona all'opera un che di mistico che riesce ad affascinare il giocatore.    … Expand

    I really enjoyed this game; the ability to climb on nearly every building in several city and rural locations is both a brilliant idea and extremely well executed. The graphics are very impressive, especially when you look over the city from a viewpoint, and I found the story to be interesting to the end, with the sci-fi twist that I was not expecting. What makes it slow is that you have to ride everywhere, walk (or climb) around the huge cities to get somewhere. another con is that even tho the detail that went into making the cities is amazing, its bland. What i mean is, is there is not a lot of color, for instance Acre is a cool, dark medieval city, and thats it. the weather is always overcast, then Damascus is like a desert town full of browns and oranges for coloring. Also i wish they would have put in weather affects, its an open world and i would have liked at least a night and day cycle. Another thing i wish was just a bit different is combat, now its satisfying when you counterattack and shove your sword thru someone's gut, but its slow attacking first is like hitting with the slowest attack you can throw at him, quite annoying after awhile.     What AC did right was capture annoying beggars and the "disturbed" though the beggars sometimes shoved you and therefore soldiers would detect you. The smoothness of movement was really great, you really didn't jump where you didn't want to, which is much better than as example in Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands. You also have to give credit to the player involvement in cut scenes/dialogue, the player was rarely cut off from the game watching a cut scene, instead what they added was a "memory error" a little interactive camera angle switch which kept the player aware. The only place where i felt the player was stripped of his control was finishers, i would have loved to actually get to press each move myself and not watch my guy just roll a certain animation in a canned film manner.

    Overall, AC was a entertaining package with its repetitiveness and solid game play.    … Expand

But you simply can't play the game for extended periods of time without feeling like you're treading water, even if you're making significant progress.     I loved the story and it played so well. It's kinda of a little bit too easy though. The original does not compare to AC: Brotherhood, but it might be better than AC2.

    I had long dreamed of having an Assassin Creed's game, but it was only until now that I had a chance to buy one. I decided to start from the first one and here I am doing a review, consisting of my thoughts about half-way into the game.

    Gameplay is great all-around, but the fact is that it gets repetitive really quickly. Basically, for the bulk of the game, you have to go to one of the    I had long dreamed of having an Assassin Creed's game, but it was only until now that I had a chance to buy one. I decided to start from the first one and here I am doing a review, consisting of my thoughts about half-way into the game.

    Gameplay is great all-around, but the fact is that it gets repetitive really quickly. Basically, for the bulk of the game, you have to go to one of the cities, investigate the area through pickpocketing, eavesdropping, interrogating and so on. After gaining enough info about a target, you get to kill the dude. The whole process is fun for two or three times, but becomes extremely tedious and annoying when you realise you have to do this for around 10 times for the whole game. Visiting view points and saving citizens becomes a chore and adds to the frustration. Also, the inclusion of flag-collecting serves no more than an achievement-oriented item. By the time you finish the story, there is absolutely minimal motivation in letting you replaying the game to collect the random collectables.

    Story-wise, the plot starts off promisingly but similar to the gameplay, it seems to lose it's direction and sense of progression afterwards. The whole plot seems to disappear in the middle part of the game as you just hunt down targets one by one, without any sort of twist or surprise in the story. The lack of subtitles is downright weird for a game with so many cutscenes and dialogues, which not only makes people hard to follow what they're talking about, but also deters people from becoming engaged in the story.

    Bearing in mind this was a 2007 game, the graphics are fantastic even when playing in the year 2012. The stunning graphics is what glues the game together, otherwise no one would be bothered to leap around the city and scale towers again and again. The views of the cities from up-top is fantastic and the kills are made to look rewarding.

    In conclusion, the core gameplay is excellent with great combat and free-running mechanics. It is visually breathtaking and dialogue/sounds are decent. However, it's biggest flaw is repetitiveness. If the game was 3-hours long, this would have been rated a 9 or even 9.5, but unfortunately it is not. The lack of replayablity, along with repetitiveness, means it downgrades an excellent game into a good game.    … Expand

    Before I played Assassin's Creed i thought that it was going to be a cool game but wow they just blew me out of the water. I love so much about this game that it's difficult to even begin how amazing it is. That being said that there are a few flaws that detract from the game.

    Though the missions get repetitive quickly, the sheer joy of stalking your target from the rooftops before sneaking in for a brutal assassination managed to keep me hooked the whole way through. The graphics are absolutely stunning, especially standing at the peak of a tower or church steeple and looking around you.     The game is beautiful, but has the enormous disadvantage of feeling like a game-long string of QTEs. I didn't feel like I was in control of my character, nor did I get any satisfaction after completing anything difficult.

    Very good game! Before this game I didn't know that I will ever like 3rd persone action games! Atmosphere in game is absolutely amazing! Story is intriguing and good! Thank you!!

    This game gets 1 point for stunning graphics it is without a doubt the most boring game I've ever played being so repetitive i couldn't finish it because i was afraid of suicide never got to the second one because i would want to understand the story F*** Assassin's Creed

    The reason I did so was because AC 1 is probably one of the single most frustrating gaming experiences I have ever had. And you probably all know why. The storyline is excellent, and the universe built by AC1 is extremely interesting but the game play... is not good. While "making sense" in terms of who Altair was (being that he was the rogue type assassin who was    I scored this a 7>

While "making sense" in terms of who Altair was (being that he was the rogue type assassin who was so good he was never caught, never got into fights with guards, and never killed innocents) it was nonetheless exceedingly frustrating to play.

    It was nothing less than an exercise in frustration and suffering because of how precise the game demands you be when moving.

    Definitely buy, if you haven't already. But be prepared to play this game in a number of short bursts.    … Expand

    The first few hours our alright in this game then it send you to do the exact same thing over and over and over again. You can save civilians and climb towers for bars of health, but after you max it out it becomes pointless to do. Sorry but I forced myself to complete this and after completing it, its one of the most boring games I have played in my entire life. Assassin's Creed 2.0/10

    It's hard to put the sheer size and brilliance of Assassin's Creed into words. It is an epic game that you have to experience for yourself. I will caution that the game is not for the impatient or the faint of heart. While you can plow through the main storyline in under 20 hours, to truly get every single last shred of gaming goodness, you will probably have to put in twice that number.
