In the course of the game, the player controls over 20 accurately simulated fighter jets and helicopters from the Vietnam War era. While it's impossible for any game to convey the experience of the Vietnam War to players, Air Conflict: Vietnam's senses-dulling mediocrity manages to express just how pointless and destructive the entire endeavor was.

Though it gets the fundamentals of flying right, and aircraft are reasonably well represented, the tiny combat areas, repetitive mission design, and generation-before-last terrain graphics are a gaming quagmire from which I cannot withdraw quickly enough.

The other is the 3D-support, which looks great on a 3D TV. The game is a nice action game with high difficulty, which forces the player to try different strategies, even on the easiest difficulty. That is quite fun, and well done because you can always switch between aircraft. The graphics are okay, except for the poor frame rate when turning quickly. The sound is nice, and the story keeps me playing, because it is unspectacular realistic, even though mostly told be spoken letters and simple CGI movies. A really underrated gem! Expand
