  1. It’s definitely worth playing, but while I generally enjoyed it, I never fell in love with it. And while the story is somewhat intriguing and the gameplay is certainly unusual, I always get annoyed with games that make things so hard on me.

It's definitely not one for the squeamish. [Jan. 2007, p.64]

Despite high quality, Trauma Center: Second Opinion was outdone by itself earlier in the year. The Wii control method, however adequate, can’t live up to what was achieved with the DS game. [Jan 2007, p.90]
  4. Overcomes what could have been crippling flaws with the same addictive gameplay, and the controls are what sells this title.
  5. The 'just one more go' addictiveness is still there. Knowing that, if it wasn't for the hand cramp, you could do better, right? It just requires a little quicker thinking, better planning, more accuracy, risk taking.

It reminds me of that college professor who taught a fun class but didn't explain things very well -- in the end, you didn't learn as much as you could have. Second Opinion's fun, but in the end, you feel like you didn't enjoy it as much as you should have.

    Engaging, absorbing. [Jan 2007, p.79]

Trauma Center Second Opinion feels like exactly what it is: a port of an existing game that should have stayed on its original platform. Lack of extra content once finished also leaves it feeling very lightweight.

The idea and use of the interface is brilliant, as are the first couple of levels, but along with any other innovation, can get repetitive. ToThe idea and use of the interface is brilliant, as are the first couple of levels, but along with any other innovation, can get repetitive. To solve this the gameplay then becomes more and more bizarre with little creatures swimming around inside patients, which take the fun out of the 'i'm-being-a-surgeon-on-my-wii' feeling as the reality of operations disappears. Could have been great. Full Review »

A great concept, with enjoyable gameplay. The storyline is well-crafted and keeps you engaged. Some may find the still-image-and-text cutscene presentation and lack of voice acting a bit annoying, but they don't seriously damage the game. The music is excellent and the controls work very well. There is a solid difficulty curve, and it does get fairly difficult, but there is an 'Easy' mode. Well done Atlus on a creative and engaging game. Definitely buy this! Full Review »
