Skyward Sword has an amazing story which focuses on the creation of the master sword and the origins of the Zelda series. The game is linear yet what the game gives you to explore is very excellent and colourful. The temples in this game are also top-notch with the Ancient Cistern and the Sandship considered by many to be some of the best in the series. The game has a great rivalry between Link and Giriham who is the main villain you will see throughout the game. He is a character with a great personality. The game has unique controls that are very fun once you get the hang of them. Most complaints about this game are usually focused on your partner Fi, who can be annoying yet helpful for new players. Another popular complaint is that the game is repetitive. While I won't disagree that you have to go to the same areas multiple times or fight a certain boss (the imprisoned) many times I think the game handles this well apart from the imprisoned battles which can be annoying. Each time you return to one of the three provinces you will be doing something different. For example, in the forest, you will have to first find and rescue a group of plant-like creatures before getting allowed into the temple. The next time you come back you will have to go in search of special water to heal the dragon that guards the next temple. When looking for the dragon, a new part of the forest will be unlocked, while in the same area, it will be in a waterfall instead of the woods. The final time you return to the forest you will need to search the flooded woods for tadpoles to learn part of the song needed to unlock the final temple. I understand why some people do not like the game's repetitive nature but I think it shows your progress throughout the game. One tip I will give for people struggling with the final complaint most people have is to make sure to use your wrist for the motion controls. If you overdo it and pretend it is an actual sword it will not work and you will have problems. The game is filled with amazing npcs, great villains and enemies and the world as a whole feels vibrant with all the colours and the four severely different areas. This game is one of the most unique in the series and I would give it a shot if you've never played it before or even if you have played it and didn't like it give it a 2nd shot with an open mind.

The HD version on Switch also fixes pretty much every problem people had with the game that could've been solved without completely changing the game into something completely different. I think I'll probably come back to the Wii version to play it now and again but the HD version is a massive improvement over the original. For example, a fair criticism of the original game was the length of the tutorial. In the original, it takes 1-2 hours just to get out of the tutorial and into the first proper area but in the remaster you can make it there in 15-20 minutes if you know where to go.

Backtracking was quite fun and I really enjoyed going back to areas I haven’t been to in a while and finding new things, which reminded me of a metroidvania (some of my favourite games are metroidvanias), and using things I remembered as odd to solve puzzles with a new item. The handholding brings it down though, In the ancient cistern, I figured out that you had to move the statue in the middle to get underground. I thought it was a really cool puzzle. Then a sign told me how to solve the puzzle.
Overall, really fun and uses the motion controls really well to execute wonderful puzzles and level design, although the handholding brings it down, and is why it’s a 9.

Skyward Sword is a great game. Despite the controversy, I really enjoyed the gameplay with the motion controls. They were working incredibly well. As for the story, it's one of the best in the series and the first on the timeline. The world is amazing with ineresting characters, very greatly desinged dungeons and a lot of secrets to uncover. It's one of the best games on Wii for sure.

Skyward Sword is the Wii game people have been dreaming about ever since the console was announced. The use of motion control is intuitive and interesting, and makes this one of the most unique and legitimately groundbreaking (if not, THE most) Game of the Year candidate of 2011. It's another wonderful entry in a legendary franchise with some actual challenge on the table as well.

Consistently interrupted by f'king everything wanting to talk to you and you cant skip.... ever.
Controls are pretty shjtty, when fighting difficult enemies the control from the wiimote is good but not good enough... plus it recalibrated every time you use an item (slingshot etc) so if you pull up your slingshot while aiming the mote and the ground it will be centre on the screen meaning you never have a defined centre instead itas always recalibrated messing up your orientation, a 64 controller is superior in every way... though the kids that dont know any different will refute this.... cuz kids.

It Zelda and I love it.... it just does not live up to the standard set on the 64's Ocarina of Time or even Majora's Mask.
The old boys have left the building and as everything in the last 20 years... quality of everything has dropped a hell of a lot.... and this/nintendo didnt escape the quality drop.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is a very fun and epic game! It is the second zelda game I have played! The combat is even better than TP, which I thought was cool too. People criticize the game for being linear but I disagree. I do not know why people think being linear is a bad thing, cause it is not! I think one of the main problems people have with the game is that it reuses content. I can kinda see why. There is 3 big regiens and all of the dungeons are there except for the one temple on skyloft. In the faron regien there is a forest dungeon and water dungeon. In eldin there is a lava dungeon and another lava dungeon. In the lanayru regien there is a sand/time dungeon and a pirate ship dungeon. You can kinda peoples critizisisms of the lack of varity in dungeon themes. But the dungeons themselfs are very good. But after the six dungeons, it gets a little annoying at some parts. There is a bunch of extra stuff that you have to do after that, like finding verses of a song, doing a trial on skyloft to get a stone, then put it in the bird statue, complete the last dungeon...some of this section is great, the other stuff is annoying. I totally forgot the order of the last section because of the annoying parts. That is really my only complaint. Most of the parts in that section are either great or fine. Overall this game is so fun, with a great story, and a epic game. Expand

The controls is, of course, the most immediately recognizable difference to past 3D Zelda games, and also the most divisive. They are very heavily reliant on the Wii MotionPlus motion controls, introduced in later Wii controllers, which means that everything from sword swings to bird flying is controlled with your very own wrists. This method of control takes some getting used to, and I would argue that it thereby contributes to the game's slow start, but ultimately, the dynamicity of motion grants a new edge to combat and traversal, previously unseen in the Zelda series. It's not perfect by any means (thrusting feels as awkward as it sounds), but I think they were right to commit to it fully, rather than have it in the backwater, like Twilight Princess.

The game's graphics are absolutely stunning for the Wii, with impressive geometry, and a high level of polish. Even here there are imperfections, though: the mocap for the cutscenes can look unfittingly goofy, and I personally did not enjoy the paint-splatter effect that is used to mask low-poly models in the distance, but over-all, it's extremely impressive what the Zelda team managed to achieve on this lower-end console. UI design is solid, and i particularly appreciated the option of a less intrusive in-game interface, but for how good the menus were, I did not enjoy being booted to them every time I collected a material or bug in a new area. It's also probably worth to note that the in-game pointer is similarly controlled by Wii MotionPlus, which makes perfect sense, but may still throw off players used to the snappy Wii pointer in other games.

The dungeon and world design is better than ever for the 3D Zelda series, in my opinion, with thoroughly explored mechanics, and neatly condensed areas. In contrast to many of the past games, the items gained in the game's dungeons are constantly used throughout the entire adventure, which means you'll have to get to know your entire arsenal to combat all the puzzles and foes that the game throws at you. This makes you really appreciate them more, especially with the addition of optional upgrades at the smithy in Skyloft. While on the subject of upgrades, I have to say that this game really nailed the sense of progression that many earlier titles lacked. You gather materials and bugs, buy and upgrade your gear, and increase your power at a good pace, while the challenges also get harder. Skyward Sword may be the only Zelda game where rupees, mostly, feel worth something, even trumping Breath of the Wild in this regard. There are plenty of shops and minigames to spend them at, and you have the ability to acquire a sizable wallet to store them in, so you don't have to watch a gold rupee go up in smoke.

In the later part of the experience, you start noticing the presence of filler content. Areas and enemies are commonly reused, and you'll have to bear a few instances that add nothing except time. Luckily, most of the filler is still competently made and fun, but it is noticeable, and makes the game lose some of its steam at the end.

The story is the usual, quite simple, affair, with the welcome addition of a few twists, and some completed character arcs. Cutscenes can drag at times, but generally add some spice and incentive to the gameplay, as well as showcase the improved expressions compared to the previous installment. The main story is supplemented with a surprisingly hefty collection of side missions, which range from tedious to well-written charmfests. Overall, the story is nothing groundbreaking, but works well for what it is, and does loads to flesh out the detailed environments that you get to explore.

In summary, Skyward Sword excels at many points where past Zelda-titles have faltered, which goes to show the team's willingness to innovate their successful formula, but is also hindered slightly by an inconsistent pacing, and small irritations and imperfections sprinkled throughout the experience.
I greatly enjoyed my time with Skyward Sword, and will therefore give it a rating of 8 out of 10.

Water, Fire, Sand. Water, Fire, Sand. Fetch, puzzle, progress. Fetch, puzzle, progress. Over and OVER again!

    Cons:
    - Way too much revisiting same areas.
    - Same set of enemies every dungeon and in all areas with small differences
    - Three repetitive themes for dungeons and areas: Water, Fire, and Sand.
    - "Fi", the assistance throughout your journey tells you really obvious things. For example, everytime you have 3 hearts left, she will want to tell you that your hearts are low and you should find some. No sh**!
    - No incentive to upgrade weapons and equipment to high or max levels, because it rarely will give you extra aid. For example, upgrading your bow to the highest level is pointless because you can only use it against normal enemies. But normal enemies die with the standard bow and arrow usually, already.
    - Picking up treasure can be very annoying. Since everytime you pick up a treasure in an area, link will hold the treasure up in the air for 3 seconds, then another 5 seconds shows you your collection menu. This really breaks the pace of the game.
    - Flying around in the sky, especially far locations, can lose its charm, to the point where you just want to skip the flying and just reach the destination.
    - Very few character bonding and storyline engaging cutscenes until the last part of the game.

    Pros:
    - The relationship between link and Zelda is deeper and more interesting than previous Zelda titles.
    - Puzzles are good and distinct.
    - Motion controls has its faults, but overall it is a great addition
    - The addition of stamina for Link.
    - The game makes great use of the motion plus feature, for example, by having enemies force you to swing in a certain direction.
    - The puzzle in the final dungeon was very well thought out. In my opinion, the best dungeon in all of the Zelda series.
    - Very satisfying, well explained and lovely ending.
    - Final battle is intense which gives a nice climax to the game.

There's lots of fun things to do, and writing this in 2020, there's nothing grindy or pointless I can remember with little needless backtracking, everything was fun for me. The only thing I think SS could really use is an enemy arena like TP WW and ST, that would be so cool. Waiting for a remaster.

Comparing to other games in the series, I enjoy the new equipment system of having to upgrade your stuff and craft potions, making them seem more earned and adding cool new abilities. Different shields and medals, and other pouch items allow for different combinations, and the Hylian Shield is truly earned, adding more variation and a sense of achievement. My favorite Zelda game, like it better than Botw and OoT even, and it shares many of the things that make Botw so great.

Although flying the skies isn't as engaging as sailing the seas the overall Skyloft island is the best place in Zelda history with great characters, and super fun side quests. Speaking of characters Zelda and Link in this game are the greatest interpretation of them both only rivaled by Breath of the Wild Link and Zelda. The music is probably tied for best in the entire series with Wind Waker. As of 10/20/20, Skyward Sword is the best game I have ever played. I wish I could give it an 11/10. Expand

One of the best examples of major motion controls working in a game. I have played through this game 4 times and it is my favourite game of all time. (Nostalgia is a factor in that, I'll admit)

Skyward Sword might not be the best in the series compared to many others, but it's an absolutely unique entry with controls that for the most part work well. Not to mention it's one of the best looking games for the console and has one of if not the best relationship between Link and Zelda.

Many people don´t like this game, mainly because of its controls, but apart from that it is a great game with one of the best stories a zelda game has ever had, where we can see a more detailed view of Zelda and Link friendship.

I feel bad for Zelda Skyward Sword. everyone brushed it off as another gimmicky Wii game with dumb motion controls, and before I played it, I was one of those people, but now that I finished it for the first time, it did way more for the series than people give it credit for. it did so much so well and it's flaws boil down to changing the Zelda formula, which isn't necessarily bad, it'sI feel bad for Zelda Skyward Sword. everyone brushed it off as another gimmicky Wii game with dumb motion controls, and before I played it, I was one of those people, but now that I finished it for the first time, it did way more for the series than people give it credit for. it did so much so well and it's flaws boil down to changing the Zelda formula, which isn't necessarily bad, it's just different, and it's a good different. when people criticize it, they always bring up the broken overworld and the empty sky and the mOtIon CoNtRolS, but it has an amazing story, especially for one that's canonically the beginning of the whole series, it has some of the best dungeons in the whole series, and it has plenty of side content to keep you busy if you get bored of the main plot. Sure, the motion
controls, while immersive, can be finicky, and the sky only has 5 or 6 noteworthy islands, but it's incredibly cleaver dungeon design and emotionally captivating story way more that make up for it.
I give The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword an 9 out of 10. it's got it's fair share of flaws and mishaps,
but it's an experience that every Nintendo fan should have.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is a masterpiece, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have flaws. Take a shot everytime i say "controls", "control" or "controller". I'm perfectly fine with unique controls, but when those unique controls don't work, i have a problem with them. Another flaw but not really a flaw, is this game probably has my least favorite graphics out of any Zelda game since the CD-i Zelda games. The reason i say it's not really a flaw is because the graphics are still great, i just don't like the way the humans look in it. The story is arguably the best out of any Zelda game ever made, it knows how to make you hate, it knows how to make you sad and it knows how to make you smile. That is all i will say about the story, because i don't want to spoil it, despite me having a lot to say about it. The dungeons in this game are great, besides the ones that use the timeshift stones, i'm not a big fan of those, they are fun to use the first few times but they get very repetitive. The dungeons have clever puzzles and great bosses, just like almost every other Zelda game. Each dungeon is incredibly different, but are all at a slightly hard difficulty. They are definetly easier than the dungeons in Link to the Past, but are still tricky... because of the controls. This game would be incredibly easy if i could control it with a regular controller, i understand that they would have to redesign a lot of the bosses and enemies but it would just be so much easier and smoother to play. Despite me saying that, about 6 and a half hours after i started playing, i got used the controls and realised that this games controls were bad to make the game more difficult, you are always doing something. Which i can praise it for, you can make any movement with the controller and it correlates with the game, which even though it is unnecessary, it is impressive. I know i seemed hard on this game because i just ranted about the controls, but i truely loved it. It is definetly not my favorite Zelda game, but without any doubt in my mind it is the best Wii game i have ever played. Everything that wasn't the controls was truely great, this game has it all. This game keeps you thinking throughout the whole game, whether it's the puzzles, bosses or just the controls, you will always be thinking. This game is a strong 10/10, when i first started it i did not like it purely because of the controls but once i got used to them i absolutely loved it. If you started this game but quit because you didn't like the controls, try it again, you will not be dissapointed. Alright now take 15 shots, if you haven't already! Expand

The game is beautiful, with a graphic finish reminiscent of a watercolor. We will explore different worlds with the usual scenarios of the saga, forests, volcanoes, ice, intricate dungeons ... so far so good, a game of outstanding, but it has an important ballast from which you can not get rid ... control

With the new idea of the Wii control, nintendo forces you to play with the motion plus features, if you don't have it by default in the wiimote you must buy it. Personally, I'm too classical a player and I think this adventure would gain a lot of ground with a controller like the ones we've had all our lives. It's a real shame that you're forced to pretend you're holding a sword or a shield in order to enjoy this great game, so the note is no greater.

Nintendo should at least give the player a choice. Not force him to play the way the company wants him to.

And bosses? They are just terrific. Maybe little more difficult than other Zeldas, but they make up with design and gimmicks. Absolutely not comparable to modern **** like seen in BoTW. I recall recent fight with ancient automaton - I had goosebumps when I thought he is defeated and instead he suddenly stand and I had to quickly figure out how to defeat him using his giant swords. Music is awesome, story is typical Zelda (like always). Motion controls in general adds cooler reception. Thanks to this, fights with bosses are much deeper and more gimmicky. Which leaves you with "wow, that was awesome" experience. Controls might look chaotic in the beginning if you don't learn how to swing your sword, but when you do, it gives you more fun than without it. But in general you know what? My 6yo boy watching me playing this game is simply captivated. While, in contrary, when I played "Breath of The Wild" he was complaining "why I play this boring game that you only walk endlessly". My favourite 3D Zelda. It has some of the best characters, music, dungeons, art direction and worldbuilding in an already top notch series. Because of the motion controls it will not age well, which is a bummer.

But the way some of the gimmicky controls work and sometimes kinda forced mechanics make it a chore to work through this game. And then there are the items issues. There are places where you desperately need hearts, deku nuts, or bombs and there are none to be found, even with the appropriate medal, there is also WAY TOO MUCH TO DO BETWEEN DUNGEONS, IT IS RIDICULOUS. Those portions are even larger than the dungeons themselves! One particularly enraging one was when you had to go through a whole charring, frustrating mine kart course, and battle an equally frustrating boss you had battled before. only to get: drum roll please....

TO THE FREAKING BEGINNING OF THE KART COURSE AND THREE HEARTS, WITH NO INFORMATION AS WHERE TO FIND THE DUNGEON.

A clue or an item like a bottle would have sufficed, or to make the kart course re-playable with time trials, or to get extra rupees, or a rare collectible (That is also a problem, every time you get a collectible formerly collected it just doesn't add to the numbers, you have to sit through a whole dialog, and an animation to tell you you have already collected this item 20 times). YOU GET NOTHING.

But besides this, some puzzles and enemies are truly fun, To date (yes, including Breath of the Wild ) This is the most artistically ambitious Zelda game ever made. Truly a masterpiece in storytelling, puzzle mechanics, art direction and action. Just remove those frustrating bits that make it sometimes a chore of experience, and you have the best Zelda game ever. But with those bits, it goes down to the 5th place. Sorry.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I believe this is a fantastic, and extremely underrated game. Many will disagree, but I think this game is a million times better than breath of the wild, and here is why: I prefer more lineal zeldas with ACTUAL DUNGEONS! dungeons are my favorite part of Zelda games and BOTW had absolutely none, as the shrines and divine beasts don’t really count - really hope they fix this in BOTW 2!. Back to SS, I was initially turned off from the motion controls, but after getting past the steep learning curve, they are not bad at all, and actually make for more fun and strategic boss and sword fights. The dungeons were my favorite part of this game, this is the first Zelda which I actually enjoy playing through all of them, as they are each very unique and challenging in their own right. I also like that you can spend at least 20 hours completing the game, and that is WITHOUT side quests! There were only 2 parts of the game that I absolutely hated and those were the part where you had to train to learn the spin charge with your bird, I was so frustrated at this part that I actually threw my Wii more it was so hard. The other is swimming through a flooded Faron Woods to collect all those tad notes, very tedious. The tear collecting was kinda annoying too, esp the Eldin Volcano trial, which was the hardest. I didn’t let these setbacks keep my from rating this a 9. I sincerely believe this will end up being the last good 3D Zelda in my opinion, as I absolutely HATE the direction they went in with BOTW, with being TOO open world and having no dungeons. SS is fun as hell and has one of the best plots out of all the zeldas I’ve played. My favorite Zelda boss in the series is also in this game - looking at you Koloktos. I also loved the soundtrack for this game, it’s probably my favorite in the whole franchise. Swimming can be sort of annoying with the motion controls, but luckily there are very few parts of the game that require swimming. If you have a Wii, pick this gem up, it is worth every penny. I also don’t want to say that this is the last good 3D Zelda, c’mon Nintendo - MAKE ZELDA GREAT AGAIN! Expand

The orchestrated music mesmerizes the player with some of the best themes in the Zelda series.
What makes this game a 10/10 experience, for me, is the motion controls. These controls not only make certain actions like aiming, flying, and swimming more fluid than almost all games that uses traditional controls, it also provides the player with a sense of immersion not seen in any game, prior. Combat is now more strategic than Zelda games, and a lot of other games, from before. You have to be precise with how you swing the wii-mote if you want to hit your target. Even if the enemy is stunned you still have to swing your sword in the correct direction. It's not mindless waggling/button-mashing. Since the player is doing what Link is doing, onscreen, the player feels more involved with what is going on in game, which provides that feeling of immersion mentioned before.
The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword does for motion controls what Super Mario 64 did for 3D gaming; it looked at how earlier efforts tried fully integrating motion controls into its game play and said "No everyone, THIS is how you do it!"
Some people deride the game for going all in on motion controls, and while they are allowed not like motion controls, to say that a game is bad because it uses motion controls is just bias disguised as "fair criticism". I choose to look at every game for what they are and judge them by their own merits.
Skyward Sword is objectively a fantastic game without its motion controls, which is why Breath of the Wild based a lot of its game design from Skyward Sword. However, the game, through its implementation of motion controls, went from fantastic to legendary. It's this kind of innovation that Skyward Sword brings to the table that makes the game not only the greatest game for the Wii, not only one of my favorite Zelda games, not only my personal favorite game of the 2010's, but one of my favorite games of all time. Period. If you were one of those who dismissed the game for forgoing traditional controls, curb your preconceptions, play the game, and get ready for one of the best games ever made.

I really liked the implementation of motion controls here, as it makes all the fights feel like little puzzles that require more thought and perhaps more skill than is normally required in combat.

My main issue with Skyward Sword is it's pacing - too much of the game feels formulaic and almost like a chore. Its structure is too rigid at times, and the backtracking doesn't help the flow of the game. Thankfully, BOTW avoids this game's pacing issues in my eyes by doing away with the restrictive linearity that hurt Skyward Sword. So, even if it is an issue here, it's good to know that the developers went in a different direction for the next 3D Zelda.

Despite the pacing and some filler content, there's a lot to love here. Zelda, Groose, Fi and Impa are all great characters and I was pleasantly surprised to see them go through character arcs that really fleshed them out. Ghirahim is an entertaining villain, and getting to see Demise and the beginning of the Zelda mythology is a treat. There's some really good music too, like Fi's Gratitude, Ballad of the Goddess and Ghirahim's Theme.

Other than the motion controls, the gameplay is pretty standard fare for a Zelda game, so although Skyward Sword doesn't radically improve on the Zelda formula, it is still very fun on the whole. If you've played and enjoyed a Zelda game before, there's a good chance you'll like this one too.

Skyward Sword is a must play for Zelda fans, and a great game overall. It has a couple of drawbacks, but they don't stop it from being a fun and memorable experience.

I've heard quite a few complaints about the motion controls for instance, but for the most part, they worked almost perfect for me. and I love how they're implemented, it gives the combat that extra depth and challenge. instead of just mashing a button, you have to use strategy and think about how your enemy reacts - really cool in my opinion.

the game is quite linear though, so you usually don't feel too compelled to explore, but there is some incentive for that too sometimes.
the story I though was really good, and I really like the characters and many of the side-quests you do for them.
I also loved how you can upgrade your equipment. that gets really addictive and fun. I'd love to see a HD-remaster of this game for the Switch, as that would make the great art-style really pop. I think the game is visually gorgeous, but unfortunately hindered by a low resolution.

I didn't like the game as much the first time I played it, but then I did a second playthrough a couple of years ago, and it made me appreciate it a lot more. after my first playtrough, I would lean more towards an 8/10, but now I definitely think this game deserves a 9/10.

and I have to mention the final boss - perhaps the best in the entire series. it was really great!

a bit unconventional in many ways as a Zelda-title, but definitely an excellent game overall.

The story was compelling and the characters had that unique Zelda charm that we’ve come to know and love about the series. The combat (which utilizes the Wii’s motion+ technology) can take some getting used to, but I found myself having fun once I took the time to perform the correct motions. I should add that not all actions felt as natural as others. For example, rolling bombs seemed to require a great deal more precision than pulling back the string on your bow and arrows. Motion controls worked well all things considered, just so long as you remember to recalibrate the controller by swinging your sword vertically with large motions or by entering the menu screen and pressing down.

Speaking of the menu, the new item wheel was the most convenient way to swap out weapons on the fly, even better than using a touch screen because once you get accustomed to where your items are located on the wheel, muscle memory naturally guides your motions to the proper selection. I should also add that swimming in Skyward Sword feels great too. After spending roughly 400+ hours playing Breath of the Wild over 2 full playthroughs, it felt nice to go back and revisit Skyward Sword’s more traditional looking dungeons. The sandship was a personal favourite of mine and the lead up to it was just as fun as the dungeon itself. And of course, Nintendo nailed the music in this game as they always do for their AAA titles.

With these positives out of the way, it’s time to discuss the negatives. Link is accompanied by a companion whose very existence can annoy even the most patient of gamers. I’m talking of course about Fi, Link’s spirit companion that resides within his sword. At first, Fi seems just like any other companion until you take your first steps towards freedom...and by freedom I mean when the game actually begins, approximately 2 hours after introduction. Fi is not a “bad” companion per se. She’s actually very sweet and she does grow on the player towards the end of the game, if her warning alerts could be disabled that would make it so much easier to appreciate her character. Then we have the collection screen which mysteriously pops up each time Link collects new treasure and if you reset the system, all items collected are treated as “new items“ so the player is once again greeted with a 10 second pause to revisit the collection screen just to remind you that you have 60 amber relics. The good news is that most of these issues can be fixed with a remake.

One issue that may be harder to fix is the overworld itself. The sky is barren and there are only 3 areas below the clouds (Forrest, Desert, Volcano) and each of these areas has a sub-area which can only be reached by backtracking. This feels relatively small for a Zelda game even if the areas themselves are quite large. Some of the bosses, like Ghirahim and the Imprisoned, were recycled 3 times over and that does not include the times you’ll spend fighting them in boss rush mode. A completionist will have fought them both 5 times over the course of 1 playthrough. This isn’t a little excessive, this is padding pure and simple.

So in conclusion, if you had the patience to read my full review then you will probably enjoy Skyward Sword. It is a great game buried beneath a layer of frustrating decisions that can be easily rectified by an HD remake.

A spectacular Legend of Zelda game and the first one storywise. Don't let the motion controls distract you from playing the game; they perfectly fit in with the gameplay, which is really engaging and beautiful. The graphics look great as always. A unique and fantastic experience for Zelda fans.

= Motion Controls: There were rarely issues with them, but when they popped up they screwed me over.

    Cons:
    - Overworld: It's a pretty bad one. However, unlike BotW, it has quite a lot of content within it that isn't golden poop.
    - Linearity: Usually I love linearity, but this just flat out sucks. No freedom to explore everywhere until you're at the end of the game.

Overall, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is a wonderful 25th anniversary celebration (a WAY better celebration than Breath of the EA) and warrants an 8.4/10 from me.

Masterpiece, absolute masterpiece, story wise, character wise, graphic wise, everything, Apart ... from the controls. The controls are the only problem though. Skyward sword is at the level of Breath of the Wild and Ocarina of time and I give 10/10 for this masterpiece of a game!

My rating might have something to do with the fact that I was 12 years old when I first played Skyward Sword. Still, I absolutely adore this game and have played it multiple times in the past and probably still will in the future. The story is in my opinion the best in the Zelda franchise, which ultimately makes this my all time favourite game!

The bosses were awesome, with Ancient Cisterns "KOLOKTOS" being my all-time favourite Zelda boss to date. The art style is beautiful, and looks even better when upscaled to HD. I enjoyed Skyloft a lot, and the other islands were great supplements. Some problems is the huge amount of backtracking. this is where a lot of criticism come from, and I get it. Backtracking can be tedious, unless you're playing Metroidvanias, they have a pass. Redoing the Skieview temple was not that great, but if it leads to Ancient Cistern, then I'm all for it. The overworld was also small and linear, which a lot of people did not like because every Zelda game has to be open and can't change anything unless its BoTW.

Skyward sword is a great game, and Its fairly cheap right now, so buy it, give it a chance, and enjoy!

The game also has new dungeons with kinda interesting puzzles and some challenge, but it's not that different compared to twilight princess.

The game has a couple of funny jokes/gags, whichn I'm fine with and unlike sonic boom it's not forced as heck.

In the end, the game is still let's say a masterpiece despite the motion controls.

Great game, but too linear, sky isn't interesting enough and I reccomend you play it only one time. Becouse for the second time game becomes way more tiring in the late game. Still amazing dungeones and places to explore. The beginning may be a little to long too and infamous Fi is here but I'm sure that you will like her after credits.

the controls never posed any problem. they never got unsyncronized, and anyone that says otherwise simply doesnt use them properly.
best music, bosses, and dungeon design in any zelda game, and second best story (after twilight princess). minor complaints: 1. fighting the imprisoned for the 3rd time. the first 2 were fine but 3rd got repetitive. 2. a bit too

However, I adore this game because it lines up with my own personal taste in video games perfectly. I concede that the controls may not work for everybody, but I for one loved the implementation of motion controls, as they set up a whole new variety of creative puzzle-solving possibilities. It is also true that this game is linear, but I do not see that as a bad thing; this game is story-driven to its very core, and that results in a linear gameplay model based on progressing through the game from point to point. If you are not a fan of story-driven games with long cutscenes, then you will most likely not be a fan of Skyward Sword. But if you are like me and enjoy having plenty of context and a sense of direction for your adventure, then this game is made for you. The story itself is complex, multi-faceted, and at times very emotional, and this helps you immerse yourself into the action. The presentation of this game is fantastic as well, with a beautiful impressionistic art style that results in these unforgettable colorful environments and landscapes that all stand out as some of the most beautiful locations in Zelda history. The music is on par with Super Mario Galaxy as some of the most beautiful, evocative music in video game history, written chiefly by Mahito Yokota. The beautiful environments blend with the music seamlessly, making for a variety of unforgettable moments from when you first experience these areas. The Faron Woods, Ancient Cistern, and Lanayru Sand Sea stand out in particular as areas you just want to explore to your heart's content... and you can!! This game is an unforgettable experience and I completely recommend it to anybody wanting to immerse themselves in a long, inspired, story-driven experience. Expand

After two complete walkthroughs, i have to say it is not the best Zelda game, but it is still very good and while it fails at some ponts, it rightfully succeeds at others.
Gameplay: peoplr often complain about this. I have to say controls aren´t that bad. They work brilliantly most of the time ( that doesn't mean it didn't give me problems). 8/10
    Graphics: charismatic and beautifully

I was very torn about Skyward Sword, it is a unique experience and a bold change from the more traditional style of Twilight Princess. A lot of the ideas in terms of gameplay and story are really good but I felt that the execution of many of those ideas just wasn't as good as they could have been. It seems to be one of the most polarizing games in the series and I think it deserves both the criticism and the praise. It's my least favorite 3D Zelda but I still like it a lot.

Gameplay wise Skyward Sword is a very mixed bag. It has some really cool new mechanics. Flying around on a loft wing was an awesome idea and its pretty fun at first but it gets old pretty quickly because there really isn't much to explore or do while flying. Flying felt far more like a mini-game than an immersive way to explore the world. Combat being controlled with the Wii mote can be rewarding because it requires a lot more than just taping the attack button but it can get tiresome. For the most part it works pretty well but there were times that I found it frustrating to use and shoehorned in. The camera is also inferior to many of the past Zelda games because you don't have as much control over it. I really like the item crafting though as it made collecting far more rewarding than it is in many other games. There were a few really cool items like the whip and flying Beetle but there aren't that many items compared to some of the past entries. Like most Zelda games the gameplay is very good with easy menus and an intuitive interface but the motion controls do more harm than good.

The story is good but not great. In many areas it attempts to flesh out Zelda and Link more than in the past, which I liked but I didn't like the tone nearly as much as some of the past games. While I enjoyed seeing Zelda take a bit more of an active role in her own quest her actions seemed kind of superficial in the end. The concept behind Demise started out pretty interesting but the ending was a disappointment. Overall I felt that the story, while more complex than a lot of the Zelda games, lacked the subtlety and tone of games like Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. There are some really great scenes throughout the journey though and the story is fairly well paced. Not one of my favorites but certainly not bad.

The world in Skyward Sword is also a mixed bag. A couple of the Dungeons are some of the best in the series while others are very average. The Ancient Cistern is awesome, full of cool fun puzzles and really memorable moments within. There are more dungeons than Wind Waker but far less than Twilight Princess. The number of Dungeons would be fine if there were a big over world with lot to explore like in Wind Waker but that isn't the case. The over world in Skyward Sword is not very open and is instead broken into sections that seem more like entry points to the dungeons themselves. While these areas are still fun to explore to me they are far less interesting than the over worlds of past Zelda games. Despite its flaws though I still think its a far better than most game. Each area is well thought out and most of it is fun to traverse.

For the most part I didn't like the characters nearly as much as I have in past Zelda games but I did like that there were more character driven scenes. Even though Link and Zelda are both given more story scenes than usual I felt that both of their depictions were far less interesting than other games in the series. Link seems generic this time around, nothing about him stood out to me as unique or interesting. Link has never been the deepest character but he usually starts out with something compelling about him (Such as being the only Hylian living among the Kokiri making him an outsider both to them and everyone else he encounters). Zelda is fine but there is very little mystery about her and she doesn't seem to do much to earn her triforce of wisdom. Ghirahim started out as a pretty unique villain and he has some great scenes but his ending was a big letdown. There are a few standout characters. I thought Groose was a really amusing character and seeing his journey over the course of the game was quite satisfying. Fi is a far inferior sidekick compared to Midna, the King of Red Lions, and even Navi.

The soundtrack is classic Zelda, it's excellent. I wouldn't say it is the best in the series but it is just as good as past entries. Fi's theme, Ballad of the Goddess, and Romance in Sky all stand out as some of my favorite songs in the series. My only major disappoint with the soundtrack is that the role of music doesn't seem to be nearly as well integrated into the plot and gameplay. Link having an instrument just seems put in an afterthought and doesn't play nearly as significant or meaningful a role as it did in Ocarina of Time and The Wind Waker.

    I give Skyward Sword 84%

An underrated game. The motion controls aren't as bad as people make them out to be. The game is a little bit handholdy in places but if you can look past that, It's a wonderful game with some of the best dungeons in any Zelda game. It has a water dungeon that is actually amazing and deserves a lot of praise for that

The hate this game got because its "bad motion controls" is unfair... at least I didn't have a single issue with the motion controls. I don't deny other people could had these issues but I didn't.
