The Bigs brings tons of great ideas to life and gives players a much more fast-paced and fun game of baseball. While the problems are apparent, the overall package is solid enough for fans to enjoy a game of baseball without having to labor through hours of gameplay.
-
With a huge lineup of real players, unique and intuitive game play mechanics, and a solid multi-player component (even if it remains offline) The BIGS is more than worth the price of admission.
-
The small pitfalls of graphics and lack of modes (including online) could easily be overlooked if the controls held up, but they don’t. It’s so uneven and just plain laggy that you end up fighting the game rather than playing it.
-
The main problem with this game is that the controls are not as polished as they could have been and lack of online mode hurts it.
-
"Decent." There are a few serious issues within the design, such as a laggy swing recognition and some wonky, forced fielding motion controls, but it’s still a respectable MLB experience for Wii gamers, and a solid first effort from 2K Sports on Nintendo’s new system.
-
Big strikeouts and even bigger homers make The BIGS a fun arcade baseball game, flaws and all.
-
In all, The Bigs is a decent baseball game for the Wii, but it really plays more like a game of real baseball than one is led to believe.
-
AceGamezThe Bigs on Wii is the very definition of fun-but-flawed gameplay.
-
The Wii version doesn’t look as pretty as the other next gen consoles, but delivers back in spades with the realism that is offered by the Wii remote and nunchuck.
-
This series holds some promise, as long as the issues with fielding are fixed by next years release (and we all know that if this sells more than four copies 2k will update the roster for next year) it'll be a great game. For now this is a quick game with friends only.
-
Nintendo PowerUnfortunately, the first big foray into baseball sims on the Wii strikes out in many ways. [Aug 2007, p.83]
-
The Bigs is more fun than its hardball counterpart in Wii Sports, but not by much.
-
Nintendo GamerIt's baseball designed for a pad and buttons rather than a motion controller. [Oct 2007, p.67]
-
Even with the flaws, The Bigs on the Wii is still fun thanks to the good implementation of the batting. The cocky presentation alone makes it hard to set down your Remote, and you simply can't swing -- really swing -- for the fences anywhere else. But the fielding and baserunning need some more work down in AAA before they're ready for the big show.
-
In spite of its flaws, The BIGS is a highly recommend to anyone who enjoys virtual baseball or has done so in the past. The batting and pitching mechanics are a revelation. The Wii Remote is the best thing to happen to baseball video games since pitchers were given complete repertoires.
