Absolute dumpster fire of a game. The motion controls make the main game so unbearably awful to play that presentation and story can do nothing to save it. The party side mode is fun though... until you get a game that doesn't work with the motion controls.

The concept of Secret rings and the story are good and it has an awesome ending cutscene, but I won't spoil it and the story is decent. however unfortunately, the gameplay is awful. Unlike Sonic and the black knight, it relies on motion controls way too much which makes the gameplay unbearable at times. The game is actually fun once you have completed it and levelled up Sonic's control, but at the start and through the game, it's just bad. It's a shame, bc the level design and layout are good. Also, at the start of the game, you have to complete so many annoying and useless missions that are not fun in the slightest and every time you start and finish a mission the games main theme, "Seven rings in hand" play, and it gets on your nerves quickly, which is annoying bc it's a good song and the rest of the game has a decent soundtrack. Not worth the money, but good try sonic team and Sega. I'm just thankful that they fixed a lot of the problems with this game in 2009's Sonic and the Black knight, which is a good, underrated game that I recommend anyone tries out. Expand

Sonic and the secret rings is one of the sonic games that I cherish most. Growing up, I loved to play this game, but as time passed, my wii broke. This year, I decided to start secret rings and black knights from a fresh perspective, as I have not heard much about the game prior to my playthrough this year. I won't spoiler this gem for you, reader, but please. Give Secret Rings a chance! An issue that might be annoying at first, would be the motion controlls. But, you can actually get used to them very quickly! Sonic and the secret rings is one of my favourite sonic games (If not my favourite), and you should give It a try!

Only major problem that the game forces motion controls. If it was optional like in Unleashed, it would be much better.

  1. An encouraging sign that good Sonic games can still be made. I had a tremendous time exploring the different stages and the skill points add a bit of depth to an otherwise straightforward game.

Although Sega deserves praise for Secret Rings' innovative single-player adventure, the less said about the four-player party mode, the better. It's another low-budget "Mario Party" rip-off that stretches out a few weak gameplay concepts into multiple multiplayer contests.

By no means perfect, but it's still a fantastic game that finally gives the blue blazer the sort of fast-paced, slick action he deserves. It's tricky to master but once you do it really shines. [Mar 2007, p.62]
