    The Umbrella Chronicles is the first attempt into the rail shooter genre, which works great on Wii, but did they do it successfully ?

    Technically the game looks pretty average for its time and could easily be running on PS2 (like most of the Wii games in 2007) but you could expect better from a rail shooter, there's no framerate or glitch issues just an inherent problem for the controls    The Umbrella Chronicles is the first attempt into the rail shooter genre, which works great on Wii, but did they do it successfully ?

    Technically the game looks pretty average for its time and could easily be running on PS2 (like most of the Wii games in 2007) but you could expect better from a rail shooter, there's no framerate or glitch issues just an inherent problem for the controls when you want to change weapon that will annoy you.

    Concerning the gameplay it's a classic rail shooting game (without a cover option like in Time Crisis for example), you shoot, preferably at their weak points, tons of different enemies inspired by the previous Resident Evil games, and try to pick up ammo, money and life by breaking everything you see. A few times you will be able to choose from two different path, but this doesn't happen enough to truly add some replay value. The game is best enjoyed with a second player with you as it can be a bit too difficult sometimes if you're alone, there's exactly the same number of enemies with the same life amount, which is pretty stupid in terms of game design.

    Concerning the story you will replay the events of Resident Evil 0, 1 and 2 with some extras (story from other characters in the same time at the same place), fans will love the nostalgia while new players may discover the origins of this famous franchise, but the few amount of original story plus the re-hashing of the levels for those same original parts tend to classify Umbrella Chronicles into a rail shooting adaptation of those games more that an new episode of Resident Evil. Concerning the length you can expect between 6 and 8 hours to finish all the levels, it's short but in the average of the genre, and you can always try to beat your record if you want to get more of this game (or play it with another friend).

    In conclusion Umbrella Chronicles is an okay rail shooter that doesn't shine in any ways but is an entertaining coop game (and challenging in solo) better for your wallet to buy this now instead of putting tons of coins in the arcade for some House of the Dead, but not mandatory for Resident Evil fans.    … Expand

Even as a rail shooter it fails to succeed - where the positive reviews have come from, I simply don't know, but they genuinely frighten me into worrying that it will encourage Capcom and Nintendo to pump out more games of such an unenjoyable level and mess.     Wow I thought I bought Resident Evil, Not House of the Dead. It looks like Capcom took the same game engine and change the characters? The Wii Zapper peripheral feels amazingly natural, as you shoot your way through 3 Resident Evil stories, not including the background missions. This well made title by Capcom, gives fans another look at the history of Resident Evil. While it may not be a must buy, it is still a solid This game is a has surprising depth to it.     First of all I have to say that I am biased as I am a very big RE fan. I knew it was a rail-shooter so I wasn't expecting a lot of depth. But in all fairness for a rail shooter it does a good job at adding plenty of unlockables and upgradable weapons and very addicting co-op. This is not a major title.     This is a game made for the fans that is easy for casual gamers to pick up and play, while still having a ton of replay value for hardcore gamers and genre buffs. Umbrella Chronicles has it's flaws but they are all minor and nobody but nitpickers will find any. Besides, they will be too busy enjoying themselves to bother looking.

    Not as good as a main game, but as a walkthrough to history? Oh yes! This is a great on rails shooter game that combines house of the dead gameplay and Resident Evi story. I would say this, if you are a massive fan of Resident Evil, buy this game. It is a superb game.

    Ok we know that this game is not perfect, what with its short running time and its inability to be nearly as fun alone as with a friend; but the co-op ability and the replayability make this game a must have for light gun enthusiasts. The graphics were not the most impressive thing, even for a Wii, but it doesn't hinder gameplay at all so it can be gotten over.

    It is fantastic, the controls are nice and the graphics are superb. This game is fantastic and it is a reborn to the dying genre of on-rails arcade shooters.

If you want a new Resident Evil game, this isn't what you want.     Alright, I understand why some people don't enjoy scroll / rail shooters. However, this is the best rail shooter that I have ever played. First, it isn't the typical short rail shooter with a play time of over six hours and more than likely around 15 + hours to completely finish it.     The 'lightgun' style action is fun and exciting in the rich RE world for a while and the representations of RE0 and RE1 are great. The 3rd act starts to drop off the rails though and goes progressively further downhill until the awful 'new' chapter that both plays badly and adds nothing to the series whatsoever.     I am a resident evil newbie, so this game was a great refresher on how the whole series started out. I never did play the single play mode of this game, I only rented it to shoot zombies with a friend. I believe the game served its purpose, I did find it a bit short though. My friend and I played through the co-op part in 2 hours. I thought the graphics could have been better.     Loads of fun. best when played co-op, however still fun alone. it dose a fairly good job of summerizing the plot of Re:0, Re:1, & Re:3. (where's 2?) but it get some things really wrong. Nemisis has been made into a huge loser (he has become just a huge brainless mass & not the Monolith that owned anyone who tried to play Re:3) & the lickers don't act like lickers (they sit there Loads of fun. best when played co-op, however still fun alone. it dose a fairly good job of summerizing the plot of Re:0, Re:1, & Re:3. Mr. X in white?) it's a lot of fun to play classic missions from new points of view (wesker or Rebecca any one?) & the wepon upgrade system works very well. highly distuctive enviorments (if it's not a wall it will probubly break) & multipul pathes make this a game woth playing.… Expand

    Resident for wii it is the best rail game to play with the wii zapper.It includes areas from resident 1 , 2 , 3 and it is fantastic game.The best thing of this game is the sounds effects it all amazing so resident evil it is an excellent game.

I won't spoil it but there were some unexpected characters that you played as which was pretty cool. The one thing I didn't like was the voice acting. This is because nearly all the voice actors were different to previous games and because of this, some of the new voice actors sound like completely different characters...e.g. Chris sounds like Leon, Billy doesn't sound like Billy AT ALL, Rebecca sounds like a 10yr old girl and less confident and Wesker while a pretty good imitation of of Richard Waugh, at the end of the day isn't Richard Waugh which is a shame. Overall though it's great fun while it lasts. If you've never played an RE game before though, I think this game is actually not doing you any good because it essentially covers the main events in each game of the series.....which can kind of spoil it if you decide to pick up the other games later on.… Expand

    The game is an OK rail shooter - nothing new or exciting. It gets a bit slow at times, and slashing at the little worms can get annoying. Would be much cooler if they did an expansion to RE4 instead of this game.

    Great game for RE fans. Graphics are good for the Wii. Voice acting is cheesy, but I wouldn't've wanted it any other way. Co-op gives it legs (co-op is awesome!). Might be short, but side stories make up for it. Well-deserving of any RE fan's money!

    This game is very good for it's genre. It offers more than decent gameplay plus a great storyline. I'm enjoying the hell out of it. It was a great buy and a great addition to the RE franchise.

The audiovisuals are comparatively better than those of other Wii games. There are many levels on different difficulty settings, and it's over 20 hours long.     My first resident evil game with friends that played it before in PS. Although it was OK I also must say that it is the first time I felt sorry for not buying a PS instead of a Nintendo Wii.. With wii remote capabilities I would expect it to be much better. It is 18+ just because of the content not because of the difficulty of it. With puppies instead of zombies it would be 3+.

I know it's something that we're not supposed to do with the Wii, but I have no idea what went wrong in the graphics sector of this game. Even on 480p, the actual action sequences look absolutely horrible. Some of it looked as bad as PS1. It confused me because the non-action sequences popped back to looking fine almost as quickly as it degraded. The gameplay felt very repetitive to me. I guess that's due to the whole "on-rails" format. There just wasn't enough to entertain me (and I'm QUITE easily entertained). I admit, it's fun playing with the wiimote like a light gun, and I love zombies, but this game let me down a lot. I'd say if anything, hardcore RE fans MIGHT enjoy it as a rent, but otherwise just skip this one and wait until RE5 comes out.… Expand

    Awesome game. ppl complained about the controls of all the other re games, so capcom took out almost all of the analog movements. i love that ammo isn't scarce this time,(for a good shooter) however, some of the files are hard to find. RE2 is in the game-(raccoon city with zombies) and i believe that RE4 is almost a completely different story altogether.     Umbrella Chronicles is very repetitive and if you're not a dedicated fan of Resident Evil it's not worth your time. There is little to no replay value in this game, it's short and fairly easy especially with 2 players.

It also has replay value with multiple paths, unseen shooter genre depth, and unlockables. However each scenario across RE Zero, RE, and RE 3 only had a few stages, and it all seemed too short with unclear storytelling.     While sometimes annoying, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles is a great arcade-style rail shooter... but deeper than any other game of it's kind. The zombies look awesome (in their own cannibalistic way) and the 2-player mode is mayhem. Just another reason to get a Wii.

    After 6 hours playing this game, i'm still only in the 2/3 chapter of 4... i was shocked at the amount of content and re-playability this game has to offer! This game is DEFINITELY like that... single player can get quite intense and difficult (especially on hard) and Co-op is a really fun way to enjoy reliving the Resident Evil time line.… Expand

    Wow. This game even though it's not very difficult.. it's insanely fun. Sometimes you dont want to have to Restart more then 5 times. This game has insane graphics, good guns, and more then awesome Original characters. Grab it, screw Halo.

    A really fun game, especially if you a huge resident evil fan! It's fun to see all those great moments you remember! And alot of fun to play through them again! I wish they had included re 2,4 and CV to make the game longer.

This game plays like a homage to the other games in the series. the cheesy B-movie type voice acting is intact (luv it) and includes most of the important characters from the franchise. The gameplay is more action oriented than the previous games (except RE4) but it's not as fast as most onrails shooters. It also last about 6-15 hours to beat. I gotta I totally love this game. Ligth gun style games just got a generational ban from getting into my Wii. I guess if you liked playing House of the Dead in the arcade, you'd enjoy this....but why not wait until House of the Dead 2 / 3 come out on the Wii? If you're a RE purist...I say wait until this thing is $20- shouldn't be more than 6 months off from that price point.     im a lightgun fan and resident evil and the light gun formatt would go hand and hand you would think and for the most part it does . what RE TUC does well is nice graphics (for the wii atleast) lots of guns to pick from , some pretty fun boss fights , narrations from wesker giving you plot info as you play through the game . my biggest issue with this game is it just feels to slowim a lightgun fan and resident evil and the light gun formatt would go hand and hand you would think and for the most part it does . what RE TUC does well is nice graphics (for the wii atleast) lots of guns to pick from , some pretty fun boss fights , narrations from wesker giving you plot info as you play through the game . my biggest issue with this game is it just feels to slow compared to say what house of the dead 1-4 deliver . the game is also abit to short . so wasnt really feelin it was worth the $50 price point more like $29.99 to 39.99 . still its a pretty solid light gun game and capcom did a pretty decent job of porting RE to that style of game play.… Expand

    I enjoyed this title. It sort of recaps the Resident Evil 0, 1, and 3 via light-rail ala House of the Dead style shooter. For a Light-Rail game it takes itself seriously. The game features an all new scenario and plus tons of extras. The game was enjoyable and entertaining even if it's not canon. It should be a quick way for newbies of the series to catch up.

    The purpose of this game is to be a rail shooter and it does it's job. Anyone who expected this to be survival horror is a moron. The game overall was playable, met expectations, and give an accurate abridged version of the resident evil story.

If you don't like rail shooters, you will not like this game, but for the most part, we don't see a lot of rail shooters coming to consoles at all and the wii is the perfect one to do it on. It kind of brings back memories of arcade shooters when I was a kid, but way more polished and way more content. it tells the story of resident evil,here are some things you have to keep in mind. It kind of brings back memories of arcade shooters when I was a kid, but way more polished and way more content. it tells the story of resident evil, resident evil nemesis, and resident evil 0, and I know 0 wasn't that great, but its still a resident evil game guys and is kind of fun. anyways, it tells the story through first person perspective and it actually gives it a nice touch. now of course gameplay is very simple, point and shoot, its not very scary either,and you cant move on your own because your on rails. Playing with a friend is a blast though, and like I said it brings back arcade memories for me.… Expand

    The game really brought me back to the oldies, in a arcade horror way. Try to ignore the modern day idiots, acting as if it were suppose to be a remastered version.

    This rail shooter based on "Resident Evil 0" is a fun Wii title. It's especially enjoyable when played with a partner. Like "House of the Dead", the game has levels packed with plenty of secrets. As you progress you'll earn currency for weapon upgrades and unlock character profiles and documents. While not a great RE game, "Umbrella Chronicles" should please fans of "Resident Evil: DeadThis rail shooter based on "Resident Evil 0" is a fun Wii title.     This game was fun and great to see everything in the higher grapics, but it messed up the continuity of the franchise like many of the newer games, but it was fun to play if you do not take it too serious.

    The campaigns of Ada Wong, Albert Wesker and HUNK solve doubts that were generated by providing the necessary answers and fixing possible plot holes.

FanService, horror, and a fun gameplay make this title quite fun.     Strange that a on rail shooter resident evil game end up to be one of the best re game ever made, whit creepy atmosphere close to the classic re game, one of the best and entertaining story ever made in the series, whit lot of unlockable, secret, file and replaying, and wesker is finally playable...great and amazing game

    Too many qtes. Game looks terrible. No clocktower. Not enough nemesis. Zombies take too many bullets.

    Although lightgun games invariably follow the same formula, blasting your way through hordes of the undead in haunted mansions and the like is far cooler than target practice. Probably the best game of its type I've played on a home console.

I made my first metacritic account just to give this game a review.     A superb entry in the genre with a ton of great missions and reasons to play again and again. Anyone that enjoys the macabre, or going nose-to-nose with zombies should check it out. Fans will absolutely love it as it's basically a love letter from Capcom to them.

    The Umbrella Chronicles does a lot of things right. It combines the atmospheric charm of the ResEvil series with awesome light-gun gameplay, then throws in a wealth of bonus material to unlock and discover. It's the perfect way to prepare yourself for the upcoming "Resident Evil 5."

    While Umbrella Chronicles doesn't accomplish much of note besides solidifying the Resident Evil story thus far, it provides plenty of point-and-pull-the-trigger satisfaction for your buck (especially with a friend in tow).
