This wimpy action game for the Wii is easy on the wrist but hard on the eyes.
-
Modern action games are expected to be stylish, thrilling, customizable, and visually compelling, and Dragon Blade comes up wildly short in most regards. There's surely a market for titles that feature punishingly difficult, fast-paced battles and little else, but most gamers will likely tire of this drab experience long before the final battle.
-
unless you are really into dragons then I would not buy this game. Rent it, you may enjoy it more than I did, but for a game that lasts around five hours it should not have felt stale long before the final dragon was slain.
-
A punishingly difficult action game.
-
It’s good to see a developer at least trying to break the mold on the system, but Dragon Blade is far too archaic and bland to appeal to either side of the Wii equation.
-
Despite the obviously low-budget development, there are some great ideas and a lot of classic gameplay here, and I would love to see a sequel with much better production values.
-
Unfortunately even at 40 bucks, the price is about 30 too much and the game can’t be relied upon to provide anything other than brief moments of cool sandwiched between hours and hours of frustrating mediocrity. Dragon Blade isn’t budget—it’s low rent.
-
This game isn't worth $45 or $50, but it does have a small degree of potential.
-
While the graphics are rather plain, the sound is quite good. I never got tired of the main adventure theme, and the thunderclap of your magical dragon appendages displacing the air with their glowing energy is the perfect effect.
-
While Dragon Blade is not like God of War it does have some similarities, at least in the entertainment areas.
-
In reality, Dragon Blade is a fairly difficult game... but for all the wrong reasons. It's not a game that requires a lot of skill or strategy, and instead is difficult only because of the crappy controls and high level of patience you'll need in order to finish the game.
-
A sub par game that missed its potential. There could be more to this title, but developers rushed the title to the door. While this game is bound for the bargain bin, it does have some qualities that make it worth checking out when the price drops.

Nintendo GamerUtterly uninspired stuff in every single way imaginable. [Jan 2008, p.55]
-
Official Nintendo Magazine UKDespite the big open areas, your path through them is frustratingly linear. [Jan 2008, p.84]
-
Massive levels, decent fighting mechanics and challenging boss battles can't make up for lackluster gameplay, poor visuals and a rather bland story.
-
Who should consider Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire? Those who like hack 'n' slash games; those who want to experience a hearty challenge and a satisfying evolution of the sword-swinging controls laid down in Twilight Princess; and those who possess the manual dexterity and mental discipline for this rather repetitive fantasy adventure.
-
Dragon Blade is forgettable fun in its tepid way, but with its lackluster environments, flawed controls and limp storytelling, it's hard to recommend to anyone that isn't a hardcore fan of winged lizards, a devoted reader of Knaak's books or desperate for mindless hacking and slashing.
-
Sadly, the motion controls for this game are not 100% accurate, and that does depending on which form of the sword you are using, it still remains really fun.
-
The game simply suffers from what looks like a fast development time, not a ton of experience with the hardware yet, and a full retail pricing. As a $50 game Dragon Blade lacks in far too many areas to be worth the cash, as the combat is simple, the design is entirely one-dimensional, and the simplistic enemy AI and gameplay bugs get in the way of an otherwise straightforward design.

May 5, 2023A very bad game with horrible controls. It's a chore for me to play and plan to get rid of it.
