Underground

Both competent and original, but hampered by its medical background. [Apr 2015, p.77]

Underground is a funny Wii U-game with a serious twist as it is a serious surgery game. It makes an art out of moving as smooth as possible with robot arms, and it is fun but hard to learn, especially because of the GamePad that often gives your fingers a hard time.

A smart and original puzzle game. It's got some control issues and the price is a bit high, but it deserves a fair chance.

Underground would have the right conditions to dispute a place in the eShop lineup with other puzzle games, if only its control scheme and AI were better implemented. Its graphical environment and sound scapes do stand out for good reasons and the puzzles it contains are challenging and fun, but all this ends up getting harmed by its faulty controls and camera system.

The controls are in my opinion the only aspect that troubled me more than once.

As a pure game, Underground has its flaws, but it's an engaging and challenging puzzle game, which does a lot to make the gamer happy to play.

For doctors it actually might work as a distraction in the form of playful training exercises. But as a game it is not very entertaining.

The clunky controls feel like they have been adapted from another purpose, and made my time with Underground more of a chore than a pleasure.

Despite some technical hiccups, the game provides enough hours of original and fun gameplay. I can’t speak to how good exactly Underground is for medical training, but as a game it is a pretty neat puzzle title.

After you learn the controls, this is a puzzle game worth spending some serious time with on your Wii U.

Considering Underground was developed originally as a simulator and will hopefully assist in the development of surgical skills, it's great to see it works well as a standalone game, too.
